Help me pick a ROM & radio - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

First let me ask all of you to put down your guns: I know the response these posts usually generate. I'm just looking for a couple quick recommendations because I just don't have the time to search through all the posts right now. I'm trying to get a quick stable ROM on my wifes' Titan, and I haven't looked into Titan ROMs in so long I'm lost right now (spending my free time on the HD forums).
I'm looking for a lite version with a stable browser on it. I'd like TouchFlo (I know, NOT lite!), but I won't sacrifice stability for it. Also, either 6.1 or 6.5 if the Titan is running 6.5 acceptably.
The Titan is unlocked and I have Dutty's ROM on it(not sure what version, flashed 6-12 mths ago), but Opera has never worked very well, and IE won't work at all.
Also if you could recommend a radio, I'm in the US on AT&T. I did read some of the radio post and I'm pretty sure I'll need help there.
Thank you

I'm sure like the rest of us you can read threads flash ROMs and Radio's and find what suits you.............
"The response you will get will be the same as asking BEST-ROM"
Hint most popular ROMs are in the first pages
Thank you.

Yes I can read it, but I know how much time it takes to really understand what these ROMS do, and how they work with a radio. There's no way I could duplicate your knowlege of this device in a day or two, which is why I put the request out there. Heck, after reading the radio thread, I'm suspecting that is what may be wrong with the device now, but I just don't have the time to take her phone from her and try to re-create the wheel. I've done all that with my HD, and I think the Titan is more difficult because of the age of the hardware and increased variables.
You know, where would we be without the opportunity to learn from those who have gone before? Wait, don't answer that......

eH..................................this is the Kaiser forum, I am sure there are a lot of people over at the TiTan forums that will be happy to chastize you for being lazy and inapproriate in starting a new thread with a question like this.
I am busy and don't have the time, is not an adequate response for disobeying forum posting rules

KAISER! My device is a Kaiser and I'm typing Titan! My apologies. Go ahead, shoot.

I'm not going to flame, but (even if you get answers) it's just opinions. I always tell people - it's like coming on here and asking which is the best flavor of ice cream. No right answer and no wrong answer.
You're going to have to choose between Windows 6.1 and 6.5. 6.5 is pre-release, so more in the developmental stages (although there are great ROMs out there). I'd go with a 6.1 unless your wife is a tinkerer.
FWIW - I use PDACorner Ultimate V3, but only because I haven't found the time to upgrade to V4, which only came out yesterday. He has a Lite version, but his ROMs run so well - I personally don't mess with the Lite (even though I use Mobile Shell 3) versions. They run as fast as just about anything out there and they are well constructed. I've used literally hundreds of ROMs and I've stuck with his for the past 10 versions or so (used HyperDragon before that). As for radio...you have to figure out what works best in your area with your carrier.
Again - my opinion. You could easily get two dozen different ones and none would be "wrong". Just make sure you know what you're doing before you flash any ROM. Read the wiki and all the instructions.

Thanks for the suggestion. Even though my thread here doesn't show it, I've been working with these devices for quite a while, so I know the ins & outs. That's the main reason I asked the question, I know how much research I would need to put into this phone, and I just can't for a device that has about a 4 month life until I upgrade it. BTW, I am in your area with your carrier, so I would like to know what radio you're using. It gives me a place to start.

My suggestion
I'm going to make it easy for you, buddy. Just look at my signature.
Those are my recommended ROM & Radios.
HardSPL 3.29, 3.31, 3.34 are also recommended.

you have been a memeber here long enough to know that you aren't supposed to be starting threads like this in the rom development forum. you even knew what kind of answers you would get and that should have been the first thing that told you not to make this thread. and if you don't have time to search and read then you prob need not be flashing roms because that will leave you not current on the certian bugs and all that may cause you problems down the road.
but to help out flash them all because i've not gotten a bad rom from anyone on here.

best wm6 ROM

has anyone out there tried multiple ROMs for WM6? I'm looking to move to something different, i've been having a lot of trouble w/ the faria one that i'm running. Just glitches here and there, looking for something more reliable.
Anybody know what is the closest to the real mccoy release of wm6 that cingular offers?

Cingular doesn't offer WM6 for the Wizard. Your best bet is to just try a few out and see what you like best. Asking which one is the best is very subjective and has been asked about 100 times already with about 1000 different answers.
Good luck!
ok...let me try to rephrase, would u happen to know of any WM6 roms for the wizard that are as close to the wm6 for the 8525 as possible. Without a ton of addons or anything. I want to have something that runs as smooth as possible. Something that is as close to the "stock" 8525 if you will...
you should try wrcx1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322404)
As usual...READ READ READ! And deliberate what fits your needs...

There's tooo many of these non-sense threads.
I can tell you what to use but it's not guaranteed to suit your needs.

If you think "a ton of addons or anything" makes a rom slow, you are mistaken. I think you will find most of the custom roms here faster than stock Wizard (8125) roms and they have lots more functionality. Having addons does not take away from your phone's storage space or memory. Only if you turn on the addons will it take away from your phone memory (but just like it would if you installed it yourself). Remember that the ROM has a dedicated area of around 60MB of space. If you put a 40MB rom in that space, you don't gain the 20MB, its just lost on the Wizard. So personally, I pack my roms to fill that space and give the most options built in for people to use.
But there can be a price with having a packed rom. Some have seen slower boot times and slower access to the \Windows folder when you try to use a file manager. But I've never seen it impact overall phone performance itself.
Just had to point that out, as it seems to be a common misconception that people have.

thanks for trying to be a jackass about the whole thing, you're attempt to help is dualy noted...
but to set everything straight, i have searched. Faria is by far the best working ROM that i've used thus far, and i've spent hours searching for ROMs and i'm already on my 5th one. So just because i have a newbie title on this forum doesn't that i dont know how to use forums, because i've been using them for the better part of the last decade. So please dont past judgement like that, it just shows your ignorance not mine.
One a more sunny note, ammarr thank you for that link, i haven't come across that one yet, and this will be my 7th try on a wm6 rom. Who knows maybe my phone is defective, but it runs the cingular wm5 rom just fine. hope i dont have to go back to that....
ammarr thanks for that link, i've added a few things to it like registry editor and such, but i really like the layout of this one. On top of that, its working well...phone not freezing, not dropping signal etc. Thank again.
well here's my 2 cents, if you liked whiterats rom, try bhoydegets "octavio 4" its an improvement and comes in different pagepools, try it for your self, here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323485
hey,
how would you say its an improvement? I'd like the touch scrolling and today plugin but dont want to mess up my wcrx1 which is working great. Page pools is not an issue since you can change them over activesync. I'm already running wrcx1 with 8mb pp.

I'm glad I can be a jackass and of some assistance.
You stated you're on your 5th flash.....there's over 70 Roms out there and new ones coming every week. You've done nothing! Faria's Rom was released about 3.5 months ago or longer. There has been alot of changes since then....but if you did some real research....you'd know this.
If you feel Faria's Rom is the best....stick with it, modify it & make it your own.
P.S: This is a developer's forum...not a user's forum.
It's not my job to police this forum; people are happy to assist with specific questions or issues as they arise.

1. I agree with dwny. This is a developers forum. This is not a forum for developers to help nubes flash new ROMS. I'm pretty tired of the "If I flash this ROM, will I lose my programs?" questions. I must see that at least a few times in every new ROM announcement thread. Most of the dumb questions come from people who don't contribute anything but "Works great. But can you add [insert freeware software request here] in the next one?"
2. If you're going to be a wise-ass, please spell all of your words correctly and use the correct context. It may not help you be more correct, but it will at least save you the humiliation of not knowing and understanding your native language. The correct phrase is "Duly Noted." And as a sidenote, dualy isn't even an actual word.

May i upgrade with Dutty's Official WM6.1 directly over original tilt rom 6.0?
It is better to flash with TYTN II rom before ?

no you cant flash dutty's 6.1 over a 6.0 rom. you either need some special hardware or you need a phone that is shipped with a 6.1 rom, which does not exist yet
this specific reason is why almost nobody uses dutty's 6.1 rom at all. if you take a look in dutty's thread, you will see hundreds of post of ppl who wish that they are able to use dutty's 6.1 rom.....if you had read a little more, you would find that dutty's rom is probably one of the least popular roms around here
sorry for the wonderfulness of sarcasm, but I'm pretty new to this as I just got my Tilt a month ago and decided to customized my phone recently.... maybe I need to search more extensively through the "ROM Flashing FAQ for Newbies" thread to find out whether I can flash Dutty's new 6.1 ROM directly over my original at&t 6.0 ROM. Beside its fun, is it necessary to perform a ROM update whenever an "improved" cooked ROM is officially release or can I just find a popular tweaked out ROM and stick to it for the rest of year?

Point #1: You are not "newer" than I am. If I can do it so can you.
Point #2: It is not a maybe but a DEFINITE need for you to read more.
Point #3: Car dealers come out with updated models of cars each year. Do you NEED to buy the new model each year? Flash a ROM, if you like it keep it if not try another one. You will find that even when you find the ROM of your dreams a master chef like Dutty comes along and makes the ROM you loved feel like you are running a triathlon in chain mail.

point #1: i am newer despite the fact i joined before you. I joined in December and only browse through the forum just enough to decide if this phone is worth buying over an Iphone. in terms of flashing, I am new. Yes i can do it if you can, so encouraging of you.
point #2: Glad i found this forum, but I did not read enough to know how exactly how I can flash. i've been flashing satellite boxes for years so yes I definitely need to read more if i didn't know something so simple about flashing a ROM in a phone. I guess installling Windows Vista over XP on a desktop is no different than trying to install Mobile Windows 6.1 over 6.0 or over 5.0 DUH...i feel stupid, thanks for pointing that out
point #3: Not a good analogy, cars require monetary investment and undergo drastic changes typically every 4 years while cook ROM only your own "personal peference" and some good knowledge and understanding on how to flash. That is what i'm trying to do, I already know the procedures but if i get bash left to right by seniors just by asking one simple question in a thread i did not start, i'll go get help elsewhere.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sarcasm
Yes - you can flash Dutty's 6.1 rom (or any other 6.1) directly on a 6.0 rom.
No - you don't need to upgrade whenever a new rom comes out... only if you want to try new or better aspects of your rom, or if you become a flash addict like the rest of us.
Before you start make sure you have installed Hard SPL - if you can't get that flashed to your phone then don't go any further or you run the risk of bricking your phone.
Also, read the threads in the WIKI and all of THIS STICKY before you start. Even if some of them don't seem relevant to what you want to do they give you pointers to what can go wrong.
Lastly, when you flash, if you get problems such as no sound, camera not working, keyboard layout wrong etc do a search - most problems have been found before and can be easily resolved.

I am new to flashing roms on the Kaiser as well, but I managed to read through a handful of postings to find out the steps and files necessary. All the resources are out there and they are easy to find. Just hope that you don't have an important incoming call before you install the 6.1 radio. That happened to me. Good luck and make sure you do your homework before you start.

Head to head comparisons/review of major cooked ROMs - anyone done one?

Hello all,
Having recently upgraded my Hermes to a Kaiser (well actually a AT & T Tilt) and re-flashing it with Schaps 4.30 Rom i have since noticed a sharp decline in performance (compared with my Hermes).
This lead me to look around for something 'better' coming across Duttys cooked ROM and has prompted me to initiate this thread.
Has anyone done a 'review' of the major cooked ROM's out there or even better, put them head to head?

Be aware that it will be your full-time job as new ROMs come out almost every 2-3 days.
well lets put it this way. im sure many of you have tried several different roms on your devices.
can anyone shed some light our input into the major rom players?
answer this question and you will get it
Do you like apple or orange ?
They are both fruit but you cannot head to head compare them.
Beside that newer rom is likely but not necessarily to be better. Try around with different Rom and radio to get your favorite one. Well, It takes about 15 mins to flash so you can pretty much try all the Rom in here in few days. In the end, if you are not happy , do some extensive research so you can brew your own.
Dutty Rom is popular and pretty suitable to start up.

i like both !! so that still doesnt answer my question.
unfortunately, i currently have a pretty hectic schedule so i cant really afford to flash and re-flash my unit all the time. in addition it would take quite a while as i have quite a few additional programs on there.
i am under the impression that Dutty and Schap and the two major players here?
things i need to consider:
- speed of operating system
- ease of use
- stability
- usefull applications

Sleuth would also be considered a major player here...
In regards to what you want in a ROM, all signs are pointing to Dutty's except for the useful applications. Just add em yourself though...
His is the fastest ROM I have ever used for any device, including the Hermes...
However, opinions are like assholes....

No, I dont look for reviews of roms. I flash them and if I dont like them I flash a different one. I have literally tried every single rom (that is in English unlike ATW who even tries foriegn languages) to try and find the one that works best for me. I suggest you do the same and quit asking for someone to do the work for you. The reason I say this is that I can't tell you how many times this same question has been asked. You are definitely not the first nor will you be the last. It seems as though it comes up at least once a week. So, read the first post of the rom, if you dont like what you read or see then move on to the next. Either that or do as most of us do and flash it.

We don't need to scour the internet looking for reviews. We just read the threads in the forum and test ourselves. All the information you will ever need is found in these forums.

Yup... with this guy... it's very easy to use PIM backup and your storage card to backup your vitals before flashing. Sure it's tedious, but that's how this all works. People will review different ROMS on different criteria and it's up to you to find what makes you happy.

Smart man , you want to pay the least to get the most .
1st fold
You want to do as little as possible, so we have to do more to cover your work ? > Fail
2nd fold
There is no "we" and "as users" , should be " I " " as a lazy leecher"
And there is also no point in promoting ROMs discussion. We can talk all day without coming up with any thing good but potential conflict.
> fail, again
I dont know about your schedule but my is also packed too ( ask a pre-med, senior Bio student) . And most of peeps here also get a thing call "life" . If I can do it , you can too. Flashing a Rom is not rocket science that would take a life time to do.
How about this, consider flashing your piece of device a relaxing activity for your break . I would be less pain and more joy. If you dont find flashing , trying and using Rom fun , why bother asking here.
p/s for the amount of time finish 2 posts , you could have already flashed a cool Rom lol.
I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but I'm afraid the only way to work out the best ROM for you is to test them all. If a ROM is unstable, you'll be able to tell pretty quickly from scanning the thread and what is one man's "useful applications" is another man's "bloatware".
The best analogy I've seen is with cars - to some people the perfect car is a sports car, to others it's a people-carrier, everyone's needs and uses are different. Also, as most of the ROMs are built on the same two or three OS builds, you're comparing the cars with virtually identical engines, so differences will be minor*.
My suggestion is make a list of what you use on your phone, then decide if you want a fast ROM (in which case flash a lite ROM and add the bits you want via cabs) or an easy ROM (in which case flash a ROM that's got the most of the things on your list).
You will never get everyone to agree on the "best" ROM simply because there isn't one that is head and shoulders above the others*, just optimised by and for different chefs.
*No offence intended to the great chefs on this forum! I know how much work you must put into your ROMs and I'm not trying to belittle that, just get the point across.
Also, it doesn't hurt to take the little bit of time that is required to make an SDConfig.txt file for the User Customization that most of the ROMs utilize now. That in and of itself is a huge timesaver. Take advantage of that, and someone else also posted PIM Backup, which can also help aid in moving from one ROM to another.
Use one ROM for a week, see how you like it then move on if you want to. That's more or less what I've done. And I've found what I've liked.
JUst another case of someone wanting to be fed.
Was it Karhu who would do benchmarks of all the ROM's in the Hermes forum? Talk about intensive... but again, strictly numbers, meant as an informative comparison of different things.
I think I got your thoughts...
I wanna a ROM table for comparisons... I can say its very difficult to make
1) ROMs change every day... its a rough job to keep it update
2) ROMs are like taste. You like a XYZ ROM because its faster but a friend may like a BCD ROM because it runs that app faster.
3) There ia a lot of apps within those ROMs that make they different. Comparing works if all ROMs carried the same stuff.
4) There are no tops ROM... there are populars ROM
I'm looking to flash my kaiser too but I allways got confused too with different cooked ROMs.
I suggest you to read all of your interest, ask them for any detailed spec. Install the HardSPL for Godsake and try it.

Hello All. Newbie with some doubts

Hi
This is my first post around here but I have been lurking around for awhile. I'm currently waiting for my Kaiser to arrive (already in the mail) and reading everything I can about this wonderfull device.
Although I'm pretty inclined for technical stuff, I still have some doubts about certain things. I've read through the wiki and several posts here but I'm still not sure if I got everything right.
Radio: base module/program/loader/whatever that controls basic functions on a kaiser like call management, camera, connectivity, power management, etc. It seems that some radios work better for some people in specific areas than for others in different areas. Its not linear which radio works best (also rom dependant). Did I got this right?
Cooked Rom: basically a form of installing an OS and specific apps into rom memory. The advantage over having a stock rom with a bunch of installed apps is that the cooked rom already has those apps and they stay in case of a hard reset. On a stock rom with installed apps you would loose everything but the rom data. Another advantage of cooked roms is that the "chef" can optimize certain things in order to make things run faster and smoother. Is this right?
HardSpl: The bootloader that enables one to free the device in order to install cooked roms and other stuff. Usually the higher version the better but also depends on the cooked rom compatability. Hope I got this right.
Thx for any comment. Can't wait to have mine
Regards
Tony
what the hell are you doubting this was kinda a dumb thread. You basically have it right but all you did was make a statement, you really didn't ask much of a question you could have looked all that up.
Keep Reading take your time!
you need to security unlock your phone and Hard SPL it, before you do anything. do that or you will be stuck with a $600.00 paper weight. you are right about the radio and rom. You need to flash the rom that best meets what your needs are then flash a radio see how it performs, Battery , GPS lock, signal strength, call quality etc. Try one then another till you find the one that works best for you. My AT&T in Michigan running the same radio as you if your on AT&T in another part of the state may act differently. I may get fast GPS lock and strong clear signal and you on the same Rom and radio get a battery drain no GPS lock and you phone sounds like it's in a tunnel. So you experiment with different radios, read the post see what others say about Roms or radios when your ready to Jump in and enjoy. The main reason for me to flash my own rom and radio is I can configure this device the way I want it to be not how the OEM made it. Just remember before you do anything HARD SPL and security unlock your phone. then you will be safe or as safe as one can be, There is plenty of information in the WiKi on Hard SPL you sound like a Tech you should have no problem. Have fun and welcome.

Try not to be so harsh to someone that is asking for help, He states he is new, Give him a short window to get up to speed.
joel2009: Sorry man but I'm trying to get up to speed as I can. I had a big laugh after taking 3 hours to find out that "radio" is an interface rather than a FM radio feature.
I learn quick but never the less, this isn't as simple as 123. Try to remember how you felt when you first found out about this site. If you were to take up on helicopters and ask about fix vs collective pitch, I wouldn't bash you although it's a question that is made four thousand times per day by newbies. Gimme some slack
edbutler: thx for the tip. I've read about hardspl. I have 3.29 waiting right here. it will be the first thing I'll do. about removing the security code, are you refering to removing CID and security lock as refered in the Wiki (SuperCID and Security Unlock v0.2)?
For now I think I'll stay with the stock rom. I'll upgrade it to the lastest version (and play with the radio) and then I'll start from there. Here in Portugal, many people complain about the low time they get from the battery (stock roms and radios as provided by HTC give less than half a day sometimes) so probably the default radio that is shipped in this region isn't probably the best for the local carriers.
Thx again for the comment.

bump, its all in wiki....
btw I'am trying to create cab to copy dll to windows directory, seems the cab always fail... some how it cannot install,.. is there any parameter need to be added to the cab?
This was a surprisingly smart post. Most new people who ask questions and havent read any of the provided information...I will not flame this post like I had originally planned =)

First timer - What is the best Rom?

I know I will probably get flamed for this, but I just won a Tmobile MDA on ebay and saw these roms for the Wizard. I have had other phones before and have always updated them using new roms, but I just can't see which one of these roms seem the best. There are so many. So I just wanted to ask everyone what they thought was the best one and why. So far I like the looks of the WizFlo 20273, but have read that it has bluetooth problems. There is also tnt and m2d and others but I have not read one where it is just a good overall rom with not many problems. I have tried reading some of the threads but when they are 40 pages long it is hard to keep up. Any info would be great.
Without flaming and/or passing judgement, the answer is quite simple. What is the best rom - none and all.
depends greatly on your taste - your needs, and what is out there.
First and foremost make sure you know what you have - G3 or G4, read and understand the unlocking and updgrading procedures for both. Lots of stickies on the top of the board with unlocking procedures, upgrading procedures. If you are not familiar with these - then they are the 40 plus page posts you need to take the time to read.
Congrats on getting the phone - now make sure it does not become an expensive paper weight.
Start with a TNT rom - see what you like, and do not like - just make sure that for any TNT rom, upgrade your radio to 2.19
From there - get creative, and flash, flash, flash.
If I may offer some advice - if your are not a chef, then respectfully try all that is offered. Offer constructive criticism on what works and does not work. Appreciate the efforts - and go from there.
But again, no simple answer - no best available. The best is the one you stick with - that meets your needs.
Best of luck
The ROM I keep coming back to is jwzg's 'Business Edition':
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376667&highlight=business
Also very nice is mfrazz's 'XDA Mobile 6', the last version is version 5:

I've had nothing but problems with TNT roms.
The only real new thing to come onto the Wizard scene since those two ROMs were new is the HTC Home/Manila2D interface. It's nice but if you want HTC Home you can add it to any ROM via a download and so far, all the Manila2D ROMs have issues that I don't want to deal with. Once some of them are a little more mature I'll probably give them another chance.
ill give my 2 cents. havent posted on the forums and thought i would chime in as to Ive tried many of the roms on the forum. they are all great roms and lots of time put into cooking them and so far the best rom is the AMP v2 rom. ive tried many of the tnt and nothing but problems. also have tried the slims and the diamonds with problems too. you would just have to try which one best fits you!

Well, I personally love the TNT series of ROMs, and have nothing but problems with the AMP releases, so the opposite of you all! But you may find my thread at the top of this forum section usefull, "Wizard ROM Features, Programs etc ect" or something like that, its a list of most all of the ROMs and what they have/dont have and my impressions of them, as well as download links.

Agree - wife has been running the latest TNT for a month or so now, no issues - uses phone day in day out, no issues.
Have proven to be pretty solid for us also
Cheers !!
I'm using the Wizflo ROM before their landscape update. The Landscape version had some problems with my phone, i.e. after being on for a couple hours the phone would become too slow to operate correctly (even with OMAP overclocking).
Wizflo was great for me b/c i wanted touchflo 2D and a fast ROM. I was flashing ROMs for the last month or so because i wasnt happy with any of the ROMs i flashed, but now I've stuck to the Wizflo ROM
I dont know of any bluetooth errors, because i don't use bluetooth all that much. I don't use all the features of TF2D also, like the audio manager and maps search. But i recommend this ROM.
btw, WOW on winning a wizard. I am jealous =P

DUDE! top of the forum in the stickies there is a thread called ROM REVIEWS. (I'm not yelling)
Everyone has their own taste and experiences. TNT isn't too bad seems to be the "favorite" of the masses at the very least. But like someone else said try them all out once you get flashing it doesn't take long at all to switch between each rom. After you have unlocked and everything.
I ended up using Manilla 2D Brushed by Noonski. But even then I found that I like v12 alot better than the newer versions. I still try each new version but ultimately I come back to the older one. So make sure to try older Roms as well they may be just what you are looking for!
Try Wizflo, It's very good for Wizard, I am using it now.
Lol, I remember that my first post in this forum was exactly this question and everybody kicked my a*s...
Well I will not do the same... I tried several roms that I found interesting and now I'm stick to AMPv2 (and waiting for a new stable version).
My recommendation is: read, read and read every post in every rom that you find interesting and then (after reading a lot) try them.
Also, please, read, read, read and read (and read again) all rom flashing procedures and tools to avoid the second natural question "how can I recover from the color-strips screen?" or worst "How can I recover a bricked wizard?"...
It is quite simple flashing roms... so please read, read and read... and follow the steps that you're reading...
Regards and welcome to xda-devs forum
go for amp - the best one
