JF1.5 Auto-Rotation problems - G1 Android Development

So far JF's cupcake build has been awesome. The only issue I have come across is the home-screen and contacts/dialer app not auto-rotating. Are they not supposed to rotate? Is anyone else having this problem? I tried searching for an answer but found nothing.
Thanks in advance.

They are not supposed to auto-rotate, no.

Apps can be written not to respond to automatic orientation. The home screen and dialer are two such apps. Among the built-in apps the ones that respond to automatic orientation tend to be text-centric apps.

Auto Rotate Lock Screen (Accelerometer)

I have searched a lot for this, but have been unable to find much info. Does anyone know what it would take to enable Auto rotate for the lock screen? I have tried several builds and themes and many auto rotate the home screen, but none that I have found auto rotate the lock screen. My issue with this is I keep my g1 on my desk with the screen up, and I like to keep it in landscape because it fits better when I plug it in. The problem is that every time the screen locks it goes back to portrait when I wake it up again. Then I have to pick it up so that it will go back to landscape. If anyone has any insight on a solution please share. I hope the reason I haven't found any threads about isn't because it is just a check box in the settings somewhere. Well actually I hope it is, but I would still feel dumb.
If this thread isn't appropriate for this section let me know and I will delete it. Just on a side note, is there anyway we could get more appropriate post icons for the forum? Maybe an icon for a post that contains a rom, one that contains a theme, one for a general development question, etc. It just seems kind of silly to use a smiley face or a thumbs up/down here.
how bout using one of them home apps in the market.. i remember either open home or ahome kept gettin on my nerves about what u are talkin about
Dxtop is my fave and did what ask on every but the. Ion build . God I hated it cause when u take it out of your pocket the phone would be in the the process of flipping oriantation and on some of the buggyer builds this would lag horribly (yes my spelling sucks)

I use aHome on the Ion Rom right now. aHome seems to have no effect on the lock screen though. If my G1 wasn't lying on its back it wouldn't be a big deal, but for some reason every time it locks it reverts to portrait. I just wish there was a way to make it not default like that. Its not a big deal, I wouldn't go back to RC33 to get the feature back, but it is a little annoying.

Are you saying that dxTop will auto rotate the lock screen on non Ion builds? I would definitely switch to cyanogen's rom if that's the case.

To my knowledge None auto rotate the "lock screen". I believe that the above posts are not reading your post correctly seeing how they are talking about Ahome and OpenHome home replacements.

i agree, ive used every home replacement out there, none of them do anything to the lock screen, the lock screen is completely seperate. Maybe a dev could make lock screen (hopefully not like a iphone like some devs have) that would accomplish this for you. Maybe ask in the application section to see if anyone is working on such a app, and if not, you may be giving a developer who is looking to develop an app something to work on.

That's too bad. I am just surprised that this doesn't seem to bug anyone else. I just don't know enough about the inner workings of the G1 to figure this out. Is the lock screen an app or is it controlled by the launcher? I just wish I could figure out why it worked on the pre cupcake JFs, but doesn't work on any post 1.5. I don't want to cross post, but if you guys think this would be better in the Apps and Themes feel free to move it.
As a workaround, you could enable the setting that prevents it from sleeping while plugged in which will also prevent it from locking.
Well... I figured that if you had the launcher and lock screen rotate, the phone might waste battery power while you're not using just rotating on every movement... This would probably also prevent it from going into sleep mode.
Not that that's the real cause, it's just my own reasoning. (It made more sense in my head. lol)
I know that it USED to autorotate the lock screen on the earlier haykuro G builds. Or was that the early non-cupcake jf builds.... I can't remember...

well my g1 spends alot of its time either in my pocket, or in a dock, both of those are in portraite mode, thats why it hasnt bothered me, but i see why it would bother you
I suggest using Droidsans Tweak Tools from the market and checking system wide auto rotate. That is the only thing I have ever seen rotate the lock screen. That's what you're looking for.

That is what I used to use pre-cupcake on the JF builds. After cupcake that tool stopped working. Anyone know if there are any cupcake builds it works on. I tried it last week on Ion and it didn't work.
--edit 2--
DroidSans Tweak Tools v0.87
"Auto Rotation Status: Bad Version"
DroidSans doesn't seem to work with JF1.51
--edit 1--
looking into droidsans... also want this ability
--first post--
In the past two weeks I did some reflashing (JF1.51, Hero, Ion, and back to JF1.51) and have noticed the lock screen not auto-rotating while the keyboard is closed. I was sure this used to happen prior to two weeks ago (while I was on RC33 and JF1.5) but really can't be sure. You might want to ditch these newer builds for a while and go get RC33, maybe that ROM does it.
To paraphrase: I thought this was supported and over the last couple of weeks, flashing several newer ROMs, I cannot be sure anymore that auto-rotate of lock screen ever existed. Maybe RC33 has it.
I'm also interesting in having this lock-screen-rotation enabled.

Google Streetview stopped working?

Has Google Streetview stopped working in v4.0 of GMM?
Or is this an issue with the Leo?
On my Touch Pro I would just hold the stylus to the screen and a menu popped up with Street view as an option.
On the HD2 I can't see, to get to this. A finger on the screen brings up the address of where I am touching and a small picture that looks like it could be Street View, but I can't select it.
It this my fat monk fingers or has it stopped working on the Leo or in this version of GMM?
If it is still there, I'm guessing it doesn't work with the compass yet (for turning the view).
Ta,
FM
go to menu-layers and there you will find street view hope that i helped you!

was curious when i saw this post. I dont get street view near me either as i dont live in a city. I can confirm that street view is available in London but i havent tried other cities. I just held on the map until the location was displayed and then clicked that to get more options and one was streetview. im presuming other cities such as Liverpool and Manchester may have street view also.

That's bad news indeed...i've got a lot of mods done allready. Thanks for your answer I'll try uninstalling some cabs, what worked for you?
Simply uninstalling Googlemaps will also work and is quit less time consuming

reinstalling google maps does not help.it will stay the same.at least it did for me.i would try first some apps which are older or using simple types of GUI.i had this problem with GPS Speedo app as far as i can remember.
I just pressed the screen/card and get a menu. Here you can chose streetview!
I found it yesterday, but its being a bit flaky finding places that I know have streetview (as I've looked at them before on my Touch Pro).
It seems that in this new version (4.0) you hold a finger on the screen and a cross appears. It then automatically tried to find the adress where that cross is.
When it find the address a ballon pops up over the cross with the adress AND a small streetview picture.
Tapping that Streetview picture does nothing!
You have to press the 'Select' softkey at the bottom which brings up a menu.
Briefly, at the moment, I see 'checking streetview' but streetview is not an option on the menu that pops up. Yesterday streetview WAS on that menu.
So... that's where it's gone in the new version, bt it seems to be being a bit flaky at the moment.

Rotation problem and something else;)

I have a problem. My auto rotation doesnt work. I need an app, which can let me to rotate screen by pushing button, or semethink like this.
Do you now similiar app?
And 2nd, can I set a transparent lockscreen in Sense UI, in original 1.5 ROM. if yes, how to?
Thank you
anyone?...
Just so you know, i had the same problem. Havent been able to find a solution yet.
Can't really see the reason why this is in the Android Development section...
But to answer your questions, no and no.

Issue: Link in e-mails break & can't add pics to contacts

I have this reoccurring issue. It seems to happen after installing apps or certain apps.
Everything is working fine and affter I install some app from the market link in my e-mail stop working and I can't add pics to my contacts. Seem as if the little chooser pop-op (to add pics from the market or take a pic/ or to shoose with browser to use) doesn't appear. The background grays out but the picker never pops up. Seem to only happen after I've installed app and reboot.
I guess the app are somehow breaking these functions. I think App stacker and Cover Art Downloader are two of the offending apps (also some live wall papers).
Anyone else?
I've wiped my tablet about five times to day to fix this. Seems removing the app alone won't fix it.
I freaking afraid to add anymore apps to my Transformer now!
I'm unrooted and running the latest update and updated from 3.1 to 3.2 as soon as I got my tablet home yesterday.
The 3.2 update introduced a bug. For the email links, rotate the screen to make the app chooser list come up. Not sure about adding pics to contacts though, maybe someone else can chime in.

Thanks for the heads up.
I think it's the same bug. It just prevents the app chooser thing from poping up. Funny thing is it works at first. and breaks later on after a some re-boots.
Is this bug also present in the custom ROMs?

The bug is baked into 3.2. The bug reappears after a reboot.
Search on posts about issues with app launching and dimming of the screen for more info.

well, I guess the work around will have to do for now.
I guess Google will eventually get around to fixing it.

Web Links Stopped Working

Strange- For some reason I can no longer open a link in an email. I tried in gmail and in Yahoo mail with my maildroid client. When I click the screen darkens (not completely) but nothing else happens. I tried a reboot but other than that I am at a loss.
Anyone have a clue?
Yeah, it's the list chooser 3.2 bug or whatever you want to call it. All you have to do is rotate the screen and the list chooser will appear. Make sure you have rotate screen checked on in the settings.

Yes, that did it. I hadn't heard about that one. Kinda sucks. So if I choose a default action I won't have the problem?
Thanks
That's correct because it won't invoke the popup list chooser or whatever you call it. Some things that bring it up you will have to do that with if it doesn't appear.
beats me a how they can put out an update with error like that. they have field testers? Anyway, thanks for the info!
It's because were in a tablet war right now and it's who can get the best out the first. Android figures they can drop Honeycomb on us and pick up the little things along the way. Little things may seem trivial but I consider nothing trivial. It's the little things that make the whole.
Anyways, glad your back up and going.
