WM 6.5 Thoughts - General Topics

Just was playing with multitouch in the Win 7 RC. And noticed that the WM 6.5 titanium seems to be more so taken from the design and scrolling of the media center screens. And a little less from the zune. Though I see that both are somewhat similiar too but it is closest to media center.
Anyone else think so?

At last: resume support for Windows Media Player!!

The built-in Windows Media Player has always suffered from a major flaw: it didn’t support resuming the song from the last position after restarting the player. XDA-Devs forum member Wolfman-XP (the same guy that has also developed AVRCP support for GSPlayer) has fixed this: he has released a plug-in that remembers the last position where you press(ed) the Pause button. (Note that you MUST press Pause; as opposed to players natively supporting resume, this is a restriction – but not that a big one.)
Compatibility
I’ve tested it on the following devices:
- HTC Wizard with AMP’s WM6.1 ROM and custom WMP skin
- HTC Universal with WM6.1 Tomal’s ROM version 7.7
- HTC Vox / s710 MS Smartphone with the factory WM6.0 ROM (this January)
- HTC Oxygen / s310 MS Smartphone with the factory WM5 AKU3 ROM
- Dell Axim x51v standalone (no-phone) PDA with WM6.1
- HP iPAQ 210 standalone (no-phone) PDA with factory WM6.0
Of these devices, it was only on the HP iPAQ 210 that it didn’t work at all; all the others did, even the WM5-based models and the non-phone x51v.
Installing, using
Just download the hack HERE, in the first post, install it and off you go. Remember pressing Pause at the position you want it to remember.
After restarting WMP, it’ll take you to the Library (and not the Now playing) screen. To quickly return to the latter, on touchscreen-enabled PPC’s, click the Back arrow in the upper right corner; on MS Smartphones, just press the Back hardware button. (Alternatively, you can go to Now Playing / Play.)
Restrictions
In addition to not being compatible with the HP iPAQ 210 (and, possibly, some other devices), it isn’t able to correctly re-position in AAC files (I’ve tested both standard and HE-AACv2 files). WMA’s and MP3’s, on the other hand, work just great.
Note that...
I’ll publish a LOT of multimedia-related articles in the near future – stay tuned!
Opps! wrong place...
nice... Wolfman-XP you are the man
but Menneisyys what do you think how many people do use wmplayer...because of his pretty dumb, not flexible, and not natural interface,or the usage
tcpmp (called the core player these days) really put the standards high (supported files and intelligent interface without too much crapping around)
pocketmusic is also great...but wmplayer seems to be out of date and overcame

yeah you are right and i really really appreciate people's work around here
but it's MS it can't be that good anyway, untill there are about10-15 hacks which our good people developed and not MS
so we have a WMplayer mutation...a player that evolved from wmp ...and in the end after many hacks it will be a whole new player on a totally different base and with different features
i can't be that reckless (because my programming level is average) and ask if it would be better to make a new one instead of developing wmp
but thanks guys people don't forget good stuff and good guys

It is worth fixing what already exists and supports video as well as audio. It may not be the most intuitive design (simplicity is better) but it is what comes with windows and works with most codecs. mainly important for familiarity, and audio video capabilities.
compatability with IPAQ 210 series
I just wanted to say that I have an IPAQ 214 and the resume plugin works OK.
It wasnt a surprise when I read it wouldnt work- loads of software seems to be unable to cope with HPs install of WM6 - but I am happy to say this isnt one of them (at least for me ;-) )
Does the plugin also work on a htc diamond??
thanx...
Kaiser here, WM 6.1
While all the options work fine, I was curious to see if it worked with shuffle switched on. While you keep your playlist, you lose the last spot on launch and you get a re-shuffle. I can understand why. Any chances of getting an option to disable Shuffle on launch? When listening to a two hour long set losing my position can be a little annoying.
Despite this, very good plugin! I was looking for a way to get around the Camera closing Windows Media Player when it opened. While this doesn't fix that, it solves the missing playlists for when it does! Sweet work.
Was wondering if this will work with WMP 12, if so could someone please help this rookie as how to get this loaded into WMP. Thanks in advance....scotty

Video editing on WM

Hello all,
I am looking for a software to cut/edit my recorded videos on Windows Mobile. Can someone give me a hint? Thank you.
Even on my old Nokia N73 I could edit videos, I think it's about time HTC includes video editing software in their phones because I doubt microsoft will...
Also with todays smartphone cpu speeds it definitely shouldn't be a problem...
Moved as not software release.
Try TrakAx. Its the only one I know of.
It currently supports only VGA and QVGA but WVGAFIX4 works perfectly with it on WVGA screens (google it)
Lots of great features and works great on my HD2.
The VGA version has a few more features than the QVGA version.

[Q] WMP on Treo 750

Has anyone found a good skin for the Windows Media Player (currently using Wm 6.1 ROM)? There are a lot out there, but only few that work on the square 240x240 resolution. Or is there a way to port some of the existing skins for the 240x240 resolution? I think the WMP looks very outdated as it is now, also it's really not finger friendly.
have is windows phone classic or windows mobile 6.5 ... windows phone 7 no work on this device .. winphone is for 64 bit prosessor and more ram and more rom ... the treo no have more ram... with wm6.5 have 20 mb free ram..

[Q] Windows Mobile on Samsung Wave

Hi all
I've been looking for a new phone, but it seems all the new OSs are a bit naff. WinMo 6.x, for all it's failings, is the only mobile OS I can find which does everything I want (except record calls). I would like a new phone regardless as my X1 is a pain sometimes.
So, does anyone know if you can put WinMo 6.x on the Samsung Wave? Apparently it's almost the same hardware as the Galaxy S, so I suppose putting Android on it might be more simple, but I'm interested in WinMo.
NB: Everything I want includes: SatNav, Stardict, WebCam, Grooveshark, Skype, Local Sync with Thunderbird, Office viewers, Tethering, Ogg Vorbis Playback, Record Calls.
Thanks
I went from X1 to HD2 and it's a great phone. You might want to check it out. It has call recording too.

[Q] Zune HD interface VS WP7

Who believes that the Zune HD's interface is MUCH more polished than that of WP7? I mean it looks even more original and sexier in majority of places...
I do, Zune HD interface is obviously much much muich better then WP7, only a moron wud say no.

great that someone agrees! I thought i was the weird one lol
100% agree, i love the pinned, new and history stuff on the left, and i love going back by touching the upper side of a screen (only wave app has something similar )
UI and UX are two different things. The UI of WP7 and ZuneHD are similar. WP7 is to ZuneHD what iPhone is to iPod Touch. The ZuneHD UI is mostly replicated in the Music & Videos Hub (like "iPod" on iPhone). I tend to think Metro is Godly for Media Player-type applications, but terrible for general end-user applications.
The panning isn't the issue, it's the user controls that are a problem for me, and the lack of Chrome and in many cases visual feedback when working with UI elements (i.e. Tapping a link and nothing visual to let you know you actually hit the link in many cases).
For Media Players, Zune > *
For General Applications, I tend to prefer iOS and WebOS to Android to everything else.
I do think they should have tried to replicate the ZuneHD interface 100% in the "ZuneHD Hub," though. They also should have given WP7 equivalent CODEC support.
Zune HD looks great.. Bt imagine placing calls etc on it will b difficult.. I like wp7 jst as it is :-D

interesting feedback which i agree with mostly but it has so much difference that I don't believe it can be called as iTouch of WP7. the differences may be subtle but that icing on the cake makes all the difference.

I think the Mango update did a lot to fix some of my major gripes inside the Music Hub - overall I prefer the Zune HD interface because it is much cleaner.
I would prefer to see the same time related switch to the artist/song player controls as seen in the Zune HD. The only time it shouldn't default back is when you are in the middle of using a plugged in app. Otherwise the media player controls should be considered the default screen. I want to temporarily look at the History, New, Apps or Zune screens not have it permanently display until I make some sort of switch.
I would also like to see the same screen saver options on WP7 and have it extended to the lock screen.

Interesting feedback!
I sold my Zune HD because it seemed redundant with a Windows Phone but now I'm on the market for a new one as there's no phone with 32GB and the Zune hub isn't as slick as the whole Zune experience on the player.
1. WP7 zune interface needs a better seek feature aka let me drag it dammit. Sometimes I don't have time to hold down the >> button, like while I'm driving.
2. It also needs a queue as next song function. Sync a playlist, but sometimes I want to play a song thats halfway down the list first. I want to be able to hold down the song and give me the option to add as next song after current one is done.
3. Make the buttons bigger. The shuffle icon is so small.
OT
WP7 zune is good for occasional short listen and day to day use. On long trips, bring along your Zune HD. Good for your phone battery life anyway.
