Realizing why I just can't buy the TG01 - General Topics

I reviewed a few new devices in pdadb.net today and felt jealous.
the TG01 is obviously a stronger device than any HTC device in the market.
There are actually only two reasons to why i can't purchase it (and why i bought an HD second hand from a member of xda-devs). The reasons are that there's no Xda-devs support for non-HTC devices and that the battery is 1000mA (which is nothing less than pathetic).
Being an active member of Xda-devs makes it impossible to even think of other devices (and while it sounds like it's a bad thing, we all know it is impossible to support all devices in the world). the iPhone feels like a joke and while the TG01 feels like god, without software perfection, ROM cooking, direct device support.. theme and skin creation.. modding.. and so forth, I would feel naked having a device which isn't supported by the biggest PDA community in the world.
I wish HTC figured out it's mid 2009 and upgraded.
I mean.. ****.. a 1000Mhz processor is a freaking stable pentium 3 (by the way, the most stable processor ever presented (electronicallywise) is considered to be the pentium 3 1000). Having a 4.1 screen on a device which isn't much larger than the HD.. is very thin... good looking.. is like a dream. If not only for saying I don't have a Qualcomm processor.. i'd get the TG01.
From here on.. it's all tragedy. It's somewhat of an analogy to not being able to buy a perfect device because your network doesn't support it.
To be completely honest, I think it's a disgrace that the Touch HD runs on a 528Mhz processor instead of a 628.. and that the Rhodium and Diamond 2 have the same one.
Anyways.. just pointing out the obvious.
Think of the first device you ever had. Think of how it was before you first got involved with this forum.. and think of the after image.
Think of the second device you bought.. and do the same.
...........the day i stepped into this place, i virtually got married. for bad or for good.
mostly for good.

i kinda feel the same way but i am looking at the new Toshiba model with a keyboard.
well there is always my site.

i'm not buying the Toshiba TG01 cus it a freaking BRICK!
we got to stop buying their freaking BRICK!
otherwise they going to make cellphone BIGGER AND BIGGER!
how about TG01+, it' only .5" bigger, .....at 4.6" screen.
then TG01++, it' only 1" bigger! ............ at 5.6" inches!
then SUPER TG01 only 1.3" bigger!.....at 7" screen!
if we dont stop buying their junk, they going try to sell you a 7" cellphone! haha

All you really miss out on are the roms. Almost everything else is somewhat universal
I agree though, the battery capacity is half of what mine is and the phone is 5 times as fast with a bigger screen. Very lame.

Thickness is more important than the other 2 dimensions, IMO. It's not a brick cuz it's actually thinner than the iphone.

Dont worry future is orange lol
Hi all, hope everyone is well
@ nir36
I wish I could be more appreciative and less critical of the level of elitism that is now being shown by XDA-DEVS but.....its evolution lol
I have been around here since....2003 or something (viewing) - since I got my original SPV and my mate had an original XDA - what a marvel of tech they were lol....and things have swung right around.
I remember being a modaco member and being much more active over there as XDA - DEVS was not such a user forum but more of a dev forum. Buzz lightyear and co made waves and I(we - most people) surfed along - downloaded and experienced as opposed to inputing lol....
Back then HTC were the ONLY (in general) company that made decent PDA's - they were the only company that actually sold them through service providers in the UK and so had a complete strangle hold on the MArket. If you wanted a GSM windows mobile then you had to get an XDA/MDA/SPV - all HTC......
Now things are different in many many ways.
XDA devs is now as much a user forum as a Dev forum.
How many times do you see rude people dissing newbies - dont post here dont ask - Are you stupid why cant you search etc. Pointless elitism. Just help if you can or shutup maybe lol? Of course Ban trolls.....
Also Windows mobile phones are now available from a number of carriers all from different manufacturers......
So, when I got my Omnia (now sold, back to WM 6.5 HTC advantage/N95 8GB combo) I was naturally shocked to hear that XDA were refusing to have a device section for it.....
I was baffled - Omnia is the best small Win mobile device I have ever used in terms of all round ability. It has spot on hardware, very good media capabilities.
Many many users here got one and wanted a device section. It almost destroyed my faith in the device as I realised the level of commaraderie and support would not exist (so I thought)
There were polls and questionaires etc - everyone wanted OMnia to have its own section but it wouldnt come.......
I used to think that HTC paid XDA devs and actually gave us all more rights than others when it came to new builds and ROMS etc.....but now I realise that HTC were the Pioneers and there was no point having a site dealing with win mo specific (not HTC specific) as HTC WERE WINDOWS MOBILE!! When people used to search for Win mo it was either for IPAQ or XDA as that was ALL THERE WAS widely available.
Then I realised that XDA devs is not all there is to the world of Windows Mobile.......there are many many forums with huge numbers of devs all churning out ROMS
So what I am getting to here - is that the hardware should be our driving force! We should get the best hardware wise devices and all work together where - ever we have to and apply the fixes and builds from here - to other devices!!
www.omnia.com (or similar) is a great resource and it willl only get better. I expect the same for all new gen devices. We are the users. We are the drivers. If enough people all buy TG01's and club together to buy one for example CMONEX/MITCHYPRIMA or who ever (someone interested in the device lol) then we will get ROMS and the future is orange.
So get a TG01 (- me too if Omnia HD and N97 are both pointless, I can see no reason to get a touch pro 2 - where is my 3.5"?? Where is my direction pad? - duh!? -)
God damn it we will start a forum together club in buy some devices and flash until I am bored or happy.....
Toshiba and Samsung sales must be looking over here and saying to them selves - this type of community is the future, it drives sales for the platform.
Hopefully a bigger all in one Windows Mobile forum will start somewhere that will garner support from all users here and all other locations.....
We are all getting more out of Windows mobile as we rip from device to device........seems logical the next step is to include all manufactureres....

What I don't like about HTC is thier market policy. I'm not the type who is going to buy an expensive device with an expensive contract. I want to buy my phones from real, authorised distributors, just like I do with all the PC parts I use in the PCs I sell. Getting an HTC device here in Hungary is way too expensive right now.

is there no chance of having a forum dedicated to non-htc devices? because if the superstar can't match up well against the tg01, i'm going with the tg01. and i'd hate to lose this great wealth of knowledge here

Well, nvidia will make sure that snapdragon won't be better (if not then. At least in 3D and watching videos with anything other than WMP
If the community is strong enough it will make it's own forum.

I would buy the TG01, hopefully some other site will support the ROMs for it, but I'm stuck between it and the Omnia HD . . .

That "junk" is, currently, the only phone to have an 1 GHz Snapdragon... Which, in my real-world H.264 decoding tests, have turned out to be at least 50% faster than 624 MHz XScale CPU's. That is, it has a LOT of computing power.

i just saw some1 on costco wearing Iphone on belt clip, that thing is big, that is not sexy! this TG01 will make u even more ugly! haha

I love big screens! 2.8" VGA screens hurt my eyes, and 3.5-4" is the sweet spot for size versus clarity. A thin device with a small bezel and a 4" wide screen can still fit in a pocket.

eh i kinda like it, sure it is big but i stick my phone in my back pocket so as long as it fits...lol. but really wow it has six more stand by hours than the viva but three less talk time. seems like you would be charging it every day.

If you like small screens, why not appeal to HTC to make some 2 inch ones specially for you? I think that most of us like bigger screens cuz we're cool like that.

The PPC big screens are great for GPS, Movies, Internet, Touch, Pics, etc...with them I don't have to carry around a PC laptop! That's why the HD, Iphonie, and soon the TGxx are the most popular devices.

I am a fan of clamshell type devices, so having a big device is a trade off. I don't mind a big device as long as it will still fit in a big pocket or pouch. I agree that a 7 inch screen is too big. I believe it should not be bigger than a 5 inch screen, it can be made a little longer though.

I think 5 inch is proably stretching it if you want it as a phone (as in hold it to your ear).
The TG01 is already pushing, but slimness helps. If you had a device same size as TG01 but less of it is border, then you would effectively have 4.5 inch maybe.

For those of you who are a bit younger, I should also point out that back in the 90s, ALL devices were HUGE and where weighting more than 1 kilo

Hello Everyone, (sorry about the 640x480, it is 480x640)
** EDIT **
Important to note this is in fact a high resolution screen true VGA 480x640
"Unprecedented Clarity with High-resolution Touchscreen "

It does have GPS: SiRF Star III with InstantFix

** EDIT **
Forget the Glaxy7, and the Zest, here is the best, the new, improved, ultra-fast, ultra-amazing... DAADADADAAaaaaa-------
Asus P565 - 800Mhz of raw, powerthirst quenching speed http://www.picnicface.com/videos.php?videoID=12. A VGA 480x640 screen for people who prefer not to go blind, and a headphone jack for eternal happiness.
This is it, at long last, this is what I have been looking for, I am so going to order this baby. It even has a leather wrapped battery lid, it's leather, you know what that is.. class, baby, class. Also, money, probably lots of it too eheheheh.
Ok, check out all of the specs here, http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=2634&l1=11&l2=55&l3=526&l4=0, now one thing that is interesting is that it has a true VGA screen, so this makes it not only the fastest XDA ever, it makes it also have the most clearest and beautifulest (not sure if that is a word.. but just go with it.. let it gooo... ) phone ever. The kicker out of all of this is that ... are ya ready... it has.... a capacitive touch screen with the Asus Glide interface, experience glide here http://event.asus.com/mobile/glide/.
On a serious note though, Asus builds it stuff absolutely rock solid, not like HTC in which all of my HTC devices have failed after a year of intensive use (replace the keyboard, replace the screen, the piece of crap litmus paper said it has water damage so they would not fix it under warranty, garbage company, will never buy another HTC device, almost bought the Diamond though, until I read the reviews).
This is it people, this is what has been missing from my life, I have been waiting for a phone from Asus that would kick ass for years, this is it, I am going to buy this, this is my powerthirst quencher http://www.picnicface.com/videos.php?videoID=37, with this phone I will win at everything forever! Now, to find where to buy it?

** These are now all the known photos of this device available ... I think **
You know, really, I'd be more interested if you sounded less fanboi-ish. I'm on my second HTC handset without issues on either, so really I just wonder what abuse you do to them - but hey, if that's your style then go nuts for Asus, I personally won't pay the premium though.
But I do wonder what that Glide UI provides that Touchflo (of either flavour) doesn't?
So far I'm seeing "Multiple time-zone clocks" and that's about it. And it's uglier (which is a matter of personal opinion of course)
Edit: Went looking a bit further and, while I've only found one "review" that's not just a spec sheet, Glide on the 552w got panned as "not as slick asTouchflo".
no GPS
only 65000-color ( no VGA ) ???? no GPS ? no keyboard as well ( got used to the wizard and kaiser ) ??? only 128MB RAM ???? ( touchpro has 288 RAM ) ...
***** EDIT ****
the link before said it doesnt has GPS, but now i can see it has .
the only thing that back me up is , only 128 MB RAM
3 IMPORTANT things:
-Size screen
-Phisical keyboard
-Support form this fantastic site!
Just my opinion
P.d. Great processor
Cheers,
I'd rather have the Glaxy7 with 3.5 inch screen and WVGA GPS etc.
But as someone else pointed out, the thing that would hold me back is that it would not be supported by this fantastic site...
Without it, I would have to work on the basis that I will probably not have an upgrade route to future releases windows mobile.
Offtopic & Probably covered a hundred times before, but why is it just HTC focused, thather that more WinMob focused ?
Zuber
GPS and Fanboy
So I like Asus products.
Anyways, there are about 1000 posts on xda-developers pertaining to the quality of HTC devices. Now, please I think you got my wrong my friend, I absolutely love HTC, I think they have some pretty cool ****, but when I buy a HTC device, I know exactly what I am getting. I am getting something that will not last 6 hours a day of intensive use for two years. I am beyond a abusive/extreme user, I absolutely beat my devices into the ground, I push hard on the keys and I drop my devices on the concrete about once every six months, and I live in Japan, the most humid place on Earth(feels like it anyways). I demand allot from these things and HTC can not deliver under those conditions. I do know the quality of Asus, they do deliver, the paint is melted directly into their plastic so you never see paint chipping off, the warranty is second to none and I have returned devices successfully even when the litmus paper had turned blue and after the warranty expires, their customer support is in my opinion, some of the best in the business. Asus in terms of robust build is absolutely second to none, I should know I was an Asus reseller, I built computers for people and sold all manner of Asus products. The only time I had serious recalls is when I deviated to other products from different motherboard suppliers and computer parts. Asus has rigorous product testing and each one of their motherboards is tested before it leaves the factory. I like Asus and Windows. So shoot me
Beyond that, the new lineup of devices from HTC have problems with the paint flaking off after a few weeks, TouchFLO is beautiful but laggy, and the GPS is laggy something like 20 meters or something (whoops missed a turn) hehehe. The only thing that turns me on to the Touch Diamond and its family of products is the beautiful WVGA screen but the new Asus has an actual VGA screen so, I will wait, and as far as the GPS goes, I got my Garmin Mobile 10 with Bluetooth GPS adapter, so it doesn't mean anything to me.
Fanboy? ME... of course I am, just like you are and the rest of the people here... I try to make my posts amusing so people laugh while reading them, that's all, sorry to have offended you.

Please read at the very top of the screen, it is right there, it is VGA screen, in fact, this is a true VGA device here. Yes, 65000 color is VGA (I am pretty sure, cuz, damnitt that's what it says in the review, so man, don't be a hater I am just typing what I read in the review! and if i am wrong... well.. don't kill me ehhehee)
Also, the keyboard thing doesn't bother me in the least, having the same capacitive touch screen that the iPhone does, typing on the face should hopefully be a happy experience.
AFAIK Windows Mobile can only use resistive touch screens?
Its real good but the problem is will you be able to get a good support forum for ASUS like xda-developers and that too in English ? I think xda has taken the winmo and specifically the HTC phones to a new height. If you know of a forum then please let us know.

No, Windows Mobile can support a capacitive touch screen, it is just the fact that many windows programs make use of on screen hand recognition software which kinda do not work so well with a capacitive touch screen http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?threadid=23389. However, this has all changed now with the invention of the Pogo stylus for capacitive touch screens!
This phone should be the ****, checking out further references I don't know where I got the capacitive touch screen from, no where on Asus's site does it say that, I think I must have read it on some website somewhere, I will try to find it again.

*NEW PHONES* HTC Diamond 2 & Touch Pro 2 **PICTURES**

WOW BREAKING NEWS
Touch Pro 2 News From engadget.com (http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/htc-touch-pro2-is-awesome-in-ways-the-touch-pro-never-could-be/)
So, how do you make HTC's Touch Pro -- already near the top of the WInMo heap -- an even beefier device? For starters, you can throw out that nasty VGA screen of yesteryear and up it with a 3.6-inch 800 x 400 replacement. Next, add a dedicated touch-sensitive zoom slider that works overtime to take maximum advantage of said screen, then throw in a few key carryovers: 512MB of ROM, 288MB of RAM, microSD expansion, and a 3.2 megapixel cam. Meet the Touch Pro2, the official follow-up to HTC's popular series of QWERTY sliders that introduces so-called "Straight Talk" technology for "seamlessly" transitioning conversations between email, single-line calls, and party calls. It'll also automatically switch to the crazy high-performance, full-duplex speakerphone simply by flipping the phone over, so it's clear that this bad boy was meant for business. It'll launch early in the second quarter in parts of Asia and Europe with other "major global markets" following in early Summer.

3-also software, themes, apps development forums will be too segmented. diamond ,diamont2,tpro,tpro2, blackstone,x1 are all very similar phones(internally). is there a clean and logical way to combine them.
4-whats the code names of these two devices
very nice. Shame they wont work for more than about 3 minutes before something falls off/a random onboard chip of some random nature starts to malfunction.
HTC, design phones then get someone decent to manufacture them.... you cant manufature for toffe.
"...something falls off". Please explain. I've had the Diamond for 2/3 of a year now and nothing has "fallen off"....
In my opinion, the build quality of HTC products is impeccable.

My experience of HTC hardware is far from good. BlueAngel (dead speaker), two TyTN's, one TyTN II and now a TD - all and i mean ALL of them have had at least one warranty repair or replacement. Actually , thats a lie: TD was sent back for a full refund under UK consumer law as "Not Fit For Purpose" as at the time there was no way to play music without the famous skipping/pause issue.
Just fire up google and use terms like "HTC" "hardware" "fault" "Issue" and so on .... you'll soon see what a timebomb of a device you have.
My Toshiba G900 and now Omnia have restored my faith in Smartphones and there reliability.
thats odd....my TyTNII(Kaiser, from USA) has been nothing short of amazing, and it has taken its share of nasty falls!
anyone know what carrier in the U.S will be providing the TP2??
im praying its AT&T, Its almost time for an upgrade, and I think im in love
Perhaps you got some Gremlins
My HTC phones all work like they did on their first day. I didnt have any hardware Problems and the software problems where solved by this nice Community.
Ok, i hve to admit that HTC really doesnt care that much software-wise... I bet they wont release proper drivers for these devices either...
Thats no problem for me though, as i wont buy another arm or qualcom based Smartphone anyway. Im up for atom-powered voice capable MIDs now.
Hmmm. Quite fancy the Pro 2. Shame it doesn't have a slightly beefier processor though. I'm sure these will be replaced by Snapdragon or Tegra devices shortly after I buy one!
i opened a similar thread but it's closed cause i was to slow
now my question again
what's that "zoom bar" supposed to do
but if HTC devices are built so horribly, why use them over and over?

my guess its just the touchwheel from diamond and tpro. not that usuful if you ask me since they could have added more usfel buttons with dpad or remove it for the sake of bigger screen or just remove it to make the phone smaller.
Copy from Raphael Thread
My thoughts:
1. First thing I thought was: I wonder if there will be some way to buy this from AT&T without breaking my contract? I mean, what do they do for people who got a 2-year contract with the original iPhone, and then a year later they want the new iPhone?
2. Longer battery life and a bigger screen are very welcome.
3. I hope that keyboard is a mock-up. Also, I can't imagine using a non-Fuze keyboard, let alone one of those 3-row keyboards most phones have, but it's just way too convenient to have all those punctuation marks available top row.
4. I wonder when this phone will reach stateside.
5. I wonder why the phone's specs aren't improved?
6. I wonder why it's not all-black. It better just be a mockup.
7. Almost Touch HD-sized screen, and the TYTTN II tilt *drools*
But really, it took an entire year for the Touch Pro to come out in the states, so who is really banking on this thing coming out by Summer? And what will AT&T do when I'm willing to give them 300 more dollars for the Touch Pro II, and I still have a contract?
Sure, it's not the improvement we'd all have made. Not more RAM, not a better processor, or drivers... but it's still an improvement over the Touch Pro (unless that isn't a mockup keyboard, in which case I may cry over the colour scheme and the fact that there are LESS KEYS on that phone than the existing Touch Pro) and I'll take it. Plus, the front-facing D-Pad is a pain to use anyway that I just open it up and use my Keyboard D-Pad.
Good point...

HTC/WinMo manufacturers stiffing users?

Hi,
I was looking at the iSuppli figures for the new iPhone 3GS and the Pal Pre and looking at the specifications of those phones it seems like they heavily outweigh even newer devices like touch pro 2 which cost like 30% or more. The Pre and the 3GS have
Much better application processors. ARM Cortex 8 approximately 50-70% faster than the ones in omnia
Separate Applications and Base Band Processors
Capacitive touch screens
16 Million color screens
Higher capacity and quality NAND memory
Considering that these manufacturers are also including costs of R&D for their OS in the phone price as well while manufacturers like HTC, Samsung and Acer just build shells for Windows Mobile which should be a lot cheaper how are the higher prices justified?
Another thing, people from HTC have been complaining for some time now that an 18bit color more would be too much of a hit/not possible in Winmo and are still sticking to 16bit while with the upcoming Omnia pro and Omnia II Samsung is using 24bit and 18bit respectively. The only thing better about Winmo device screens is the higher resolution.
The only thing besides hardware for Windows phone manufacturers is case design and shell development. Do you think that undercutting quality of parts without much justification is ok? I would like to hear what long time users think of it.
PS: Got 3GS and Pre information from http://www.cellular-news.com/story/37945.php
Constructive comments please
Thanks
[QUOTE Do you think that undercutting quality of parts without much justification is ok? [/QUOTE]
I don´t think it´s ok.
I decided to stay in HTC line devices for one great reason that makes the diference: XDA-DEVS!!!!
Without this great site I might turn my interest on Toshiba new devices, even with WM.
I don´t have any good comment respect the others OS...
Perhaps Android in a mid-future term...
They ask as much as possible for a device. Actually that's the reason I'd never really buy the rhodium. HTC always releases devices with a little flaw they fix in the next device (but make a new flaw, like FM radio in rhodium). What we need isn't that much: (F)WVGA, Tegra/Snapdragon/OMAP, 5-8 megapixel camera WITH flash and such others. I hope that Acer F1 is going to rock so I can buy my next device
HTC is a joke. They can only blame themselves and their lousy hardware / drivers for iPhone's being a huge success.
Just heard today the the new iphonie 3gs sold a million units already
Hope HTC gets there sh#t together soon...
to be honest, the only reason i buy htc/winmo devices is this site....and the fact i can get tomtom on it
but now i see tomtom is on the iphone, having used an iphone this week, i can say there are things il ike about it, but its a bit to dumbed down for me i feel, but then, it does just work, and the touchscreen seems to work much better than any htc device i've used
i seriously miss having a flashlight, i mean camera flash on my phone, my old samsung d500 was brilliant in the dark, also miss having a camera that doesn't have wierd blue on it all the time no matter how much i seem to fiddle with it

Yeah, the iPhone is ****ingly well done... I have tons of WinMo devices but, for most tasks, I use my iPhone 3G. It's, hardware-wise, so much better than those lame resistive screen-based HTC craps...
And yes, as soon as the 3G S arrives here (in July), I'll be among the first to purchase it. I love gaming on these things.
true. i am tired of defending htc with my friends who have iphone. even the new palm pre which i tested today is so sweet. the screen jumps at u. i loved it
when my contract is up next month i am so buying an iphone.
the only reason i stayed so long is XDA and the tweaking i could do. kept me interested but now i dnt have time to be tweaking.
i want a phone that works and does what it needs to do without constant resetting and tweaks from XDA
I believe HTC made the best financial choice for this year. Due to Economical situation they know there will less demand on high end devices. Therefore they have not risk any high R&D and expensive parts. They choose already existing platforms and just add few more spec. I believe that is the best way to keep their profit margins!!!! The sad thing is they do have still advantage over the other hardware manufacturers which makes them too confident.
Beside from the Hardware issues on the WinMO I believe it is the OS that keeps all Hardware manufacturer and also Software makers struggle. Window Mobile OS clearly out aged but Microsoft is not fast enough to come up with something NEW and BETTER. Be frank WinMo 6.5 is just a joke. It has no major changes. Win 7 has delayed few times and besides no one knows what going to come out from that development.
Clearly if MS and HTC continue in such way they sure will be losing huge market which we already started to see!!!!!
I know..many WinMo supporters will say compare to WinMo..Iphone can’t do this... Iphone can’t do that. The fact is that 90% consumer that buy a device for 500-900USD don’t wanted spend their entire time to tweak and modify a expensive device to function a bit better!!! Beside most of those are not technical and therefore the learning curve to handle WinMo is much much longer.
I believe as a long term user of WinMo we become use to the limitation of MS OS and hardware so that we already see those as normal. But I do trust that many of us forget that WE PAYING REALLY 500-900 USD for piece of CRAP!!!
We just NEED to see the falling prices of Notebooks and Netbooks then we know how much we over paying for our HTC devices.

I was scared that XDA-Devs is a fanboy site, with no rational thinking allowed. Glad to see this isn't the case.
Let's call a spade is a spade - HTC has ridden way too long on the coattails of cheap design, cheap QVGA screens and crap hardware with no or poor drivers, selling for $649 unlocked.

Why wont u b getting the Touch Pro II

Why wont u b getting the Touch Pro 2?
I put this in the general category because I wanted to here from all the non owners, users who are going to skip the TP2 as well as the owners who want to complain about the TP2.
I was excited about this phone but I hate to go with a device that does not have a navigation pad. I have issues daily where I tap the screen or drag the screen on my Fuze and do not get the desired result so then I make use of the dpad to do what I need to do with no further problem.
Is there a reason you are going to skip the TP2? Whats it missing for you or what have you chosen over the TP2?
the processor ! or lack of driver support there of.
Because i wanted to have a (relativley) decent camera. So I got the Acer M900 instead of which, i'm VERY happy with it.
(Oh in my experience, HTC's build quality is sh*t)
Acer does have a better camera and probably better drivers too. But when it comes o build quality I dis-agree with your fact. Acer phones usually have cheap plastic finish but HTC makes good casing almost in every phone model of theirs.. They're good at design or hire good designers IMHO.
You cannot disagree with my opinion or indeed my personal experience. You may indeed have a diferent opinion and experience but that does not mean that either of us are right or wrong.
An opinion is just that, a personal opinion.
An experience is fact but that does not mean you will suffer the same.
But, I do very much agree with your OPINION on the design, they are usualy well designed however, in my EXPERIENCE, they are built out of crap and made very poorly.
My biggest issue with the TP2 is the relatively slower processor and lack of a headphone jack. I know it's business phone and all, but still, when other touch screen phones are one-upping you in hardware...
The TD2 has the same issues, but it's cheaper, so the qualms are a bit easier to swallow. I'm gonna have to think carefully and wait and see how much AT&T charges for each.
better processor and wm 7 ... until then htc fuze for me.
I'll quote Anand here.
Anand said:
The second part isn’t what Nokia should be doing on its $500+ smartphone, what is inexcusable is the fact that Nokia is not using ARM’s latest and greatest Cortex A8 on such an expensive phone. It’s the equivalent of Dell shipping a high end PC with a Core 2 Duo instead of a Core i7; after a certain price point, the i7 is just expected.

Up until this morning, I was 100% committed to getting a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium).
This afternoon I had a play with the new Toshiba TG01.
Now I'm 50:50 on the TP2 or the TG01.
Quite a few reasons. The first is simply cost -- I don't have a cheap upgrade option currently, and it sure isn't worth the asking price without a carrier subsidy.
Lack of a 3.5mm jack is a big deal for me. While I always intend to keep a seperate PMP (I have a Zune 80 right now and might snag the HD later this year), I want my next phone to at least be a competent media player when I don't have my Zune with me. This is simply impossible without a standard headphone jack, because I won't carry an adapter with me.
The biggest reason is probably the impending release of WM7. I expect 7 to be a BIG upgrade over 6 and really a game changer for the whole WM world. I don't want to be stuck with "old" WM once 7 releases. And if 7 isn't as revolutionary as I expect/hope, I'll seriously consider jumping ship.

initialy i'd agree with you about keyboard v cpu however, you cannot compare processor Mhz across diferent manufacturers. The only test you can compare processors with (and actually indeed, entire devices) is with real world tests such as, opening a complex spreadsheet or running an emulator.
This is why all reviews run comparisons with user software running like Unreal Tournament for example or Call of Duty.
Numbers are an indicator, they are not the entire story.

Thats pretty nice that the biometric pad doubles as a navigation dpad! Does that work well?
Do you have any issues with the 128 RAM? The videos i have seen show that the screen is slow and a little less responsive. Is this your experiance? Thanks
No, quite the oposite.... its very fast and nippy device, certainly the fastest i've ever owned. Yes the memory numbers are a little low however, as long as you close any apps you dont really need open your fine. I often run Igo and either the FM player or Win Media Player and don't have any issues.
Be warned though, its not a small device. Its not Universal big but, you could easily use it to defend yourself
edit: Oh yeah, and some people have already learn't to edit the partition table which If I understand this correctly, means we will be shortly getting cooked roms that change the storage ratio - could be wrong on this though.
After looking at TPII I can't WOW. Its just another pocketpc with hardly any novelty to offer, Tilt form factor is what gives it an extra look otherwise its no better than TP IMHO
Some reports say the m900 has a 2.5mm jack and some say 3.5, can u say which is true?
So is the screen responsive? Do u have to tap something more than once and does the screen somtimes fail to recognize a gesture? Sorry to ask again but i wasnt sure to which part of my post u were responding to. Im thinking of ordering the m900 in the next few days.
I cant justify to myself paying that sort of money for something that is not all that different to previous htc keyboard offerings. I dont have a problem with the processor its just I am so very bored of wm 6.whatever. If wm7 ever arrives then it will be a different story.
In the meantime I am going to give android and the Hero a go...

It has neither. Its a mini 5 pin usb so you need an adapter (£2 from ebay). The screen can be unresponsive at times but Acer are very aware of this and are working with us on www.4winmobile.com. We already know there is a new firmware released and are expecting it to appear on Acers website in the next week or two.
Rather than derail the thread further, it might be an idea to check out 4winmobile and go to the Acer/Eten area.
Thanks Monty

What to do guys...

Righty, my HD2 is about to go to where all good phones go when they meet their maker, the African sub-continent
Yup its time has come, the USB socket seems to no longer except data connections, (probably broken PCB/tracks) and the digitiser has started to act erratically
as much as id like to get out the soldering Iron and replace the digitiser it doesn't cost that much more to get a new one.
So I guess im coming here to pick your brains and gather up what the community feels is the best options
So the choices above are
get a cheaper HD2 and wait out for the WP8 device launch when I could then choose to get a cheaper WP7 device or get a WP8 one
Keep the king of all phones the HD2 and shell out on brand spanky new one
Nokia 800(cheaper)
Nokia 900(would rather)
Titan (cheaper)
Titan II (Would rather)
Something else, perhaps a Smaller HD2 comparable gem
Ive put those 4 on because im interested in what the general feeling of the community is on them, obviously the 900 and the Titan II are better but I suppose the question is, for those that know is it worth the extra money?
In terms of spec I don't care, they are all good, but if your suggesting another one then 3.7in is the absolute minimum screen size and CPU spec around that of the 3 year old HD2 is acceptable, I don't play games so a 1GHz snapdragon is ok and around 512MB of RAM is fine too, the HD2 has a bit less which is fine. screen size is what's important
Im aware those newer ones are not as mod able as the HD2, but apart from web based XAP installing I don't do that much on it that needs the Full unlock so would I miss it...I dunno, side loading some of my custom XAPs would be handy I guess....
One last thing, yes I can and have researched them, but im open to suggestions and im more interested in what you guys have experienced with them, good or bad. We XDAers tend to know out stuff a lot more than the average review site!
sooo..... over to you great chaps and lasses, what do you think?
I loved my HD2 and would still be using it if it wasn't for the social integration that wp7 holds, No going back now, But if you can pick up a cheap HD2 for now then surely its the better option being what ur familiar with and knowing wp8 hopefully has some nice surprises to look forward to later in the year.
I've got an LG E900. It works smooth, but has so many little flaws, that I would go for a cheap HD2. I don't know about the Titans. But after using WP7.5 I wouldn't consider to buy a new WP device which isn't capable of WP8.
Maybe you get an used WP7.5 device cheaper than an HD2 and consider this as an opportunity to test WP. Because I guess Android isn't perfect either, but you know of its flaws and there aren't any surprises. Like when I've got my first call. WP vibrates, then rings, then vibrates. When I wanted to change this behaviour I considered myself lucky of being able to at least choose a different ringtone.

That story is not over yet Microsoft just kept quit and that's it...
Anyway, I'd buy another HD2. It's already quite cheap and still the best. And when WP8 hits the stores, I'd buy a shiny new phone with new specs (second gen devices have not made a big jump but WP8 is hopefully going to catch up with android handsets).
The HD2 will always be nice (even when you got a new phone) as you can really, really play with it.
thanks guys, Its looking like a return to the king moment with half the vote suggesting getting a cheap HD2 and waiting for 1st gen WP8 devices to see what happens.....
Ok, ive had another thought, now there doesn't appear to be any development on this one but its unlockable to deploy xaps, I don't think its full unlock but as I said im not too bothered.
So, the phone im talking about, is the Samsung Focus s
From all information that I can gather its pretty good, all beit has a plastic feel about it, anyone have any additional thoughts on the matter?
ive got a day to decide before my phone will probably pack in, USB socket just fell off the PCB all together such an undignified end to the HD2 3 year reign
Well that's sad - but even the hd2 is not invincible
I think Samsung makes pretty decent phones (I played around with an omnia 7 and galaxy s2). The only downside is that they feel really cheap and shaby as you said.
Don't know what you're paying for it, but if it's really cheap, I'd buy it. Otherwise I'd stick with an HD2 and wait for the WP8 release.

well ive gone with the Samsung Focus S imported from the states, the screen size was the deciding factor, combined with the fact that dev unlock is fairly straight forward and interop isn't much harder. Titan was just too big, and the 800 was too small and inconsistent with what I was expecting, the 900 would have been great if I could have got one cheep, the Focus S ticked all the boxes bar the slightly plastic feel to them
theres sweet bugger all going on in development so perhaps ill try give something back to the community and learn a bit from the Gods on here
The HD2 is still holding in there, if I squash the whole lower portion of the phone very hard and remove the battery to charge it, it still kinda works, it just doesn't want to die
