Lol, someone takes phone softwares way to seriously.
ugh.. I think there should be a 1 week posting restriction for new junior members so we don't get the same questions over and over again.
that way the juniors can do a bit of reading before posting.

lol.. such foul language is not tolerable.. Especially since he hasn't done anything wrong.
Pros for Haykuro
More features.
Better touch screen keyboard.
When in a phone call still access to 3G/Edge internet. (BIG UPS)
built in camcorder
teeter (a game)
pdf viewer
cool dial pad
(more power saving tools)
Cons for Haykuro
Slow

Pros for JF 1.5

Cons for JF 1.5
the dial pad is back to normal
Seems like the same original android
I was in love with haykuro (no homo..)
but switch to JF because it's faster. ;]
ya please don't lock this thread with a 1 liner at the end saying something of the nature of "try them and figure it out yourself" Do you really expect everyone to spend hours testing each version so they "got the whole story"?
Anyway I thought that was retarded last night. Thanks

Which Haykuro build are you talking about? Sounds like the 5.0.2H build. That build is "Slow Slow Slow", but I haven't seen any significant difference between JF 1.5 and Haykuro ADP1.5Hr3 other than an updated superuser app in JF and having both virtual keyboards in Haykuro. Has anyone else noticed any significant differences between those two builds. I didn't feel the speed improvement that everyone was talking about. It felt about the same to me.

Yeah he must be talking about Haykuros previous builds, i had both JF and H ADP's and to me JF its snappier, H has both VK. Oh JF comes with terminal, superuser and i think another app wish i cant seem to remember, other than that, aesthetically look pretty much the same.
Jf cupcake hands down, sorry that's just how I feel.

My choice as well.
One big difference between jf and haykuro is that JF documents all his changes so we know exactly what are in his builds compared to the stock adp image.

why are you apologizing and you didnt give reason for why JF is better?
I like Haykuros build better. Seems like it has more to me at least.
Seriously why the hell are we doing this crap again? The last thread from yesterday was locked. All these threads do is create favortisim and can drive away developers if they feel under appreciated. This thread should be locked like the last one.
These threads wouldn't be so bad if they stuck to pure facts like.....
"build X has this feature, build Y doesn't."
The problem is, and I've been suckered by this one before, when enough people say "oh, build Z is super fast" you automatically try that one, and you believe it and flash that one first, and you may actually believe that it is faster.
When in fact, the following is usually the case.....
A) Nobody bothers to provide measurements to back up these claims.
B) Nobody has a millisecond accurate timer in their head.
C) Any difference in speed is very small, and would go unnoticed if not for the power of suggestion.
show each other respect
this thread is closed.....as you are comparing two thingsand this is then turning into a "whats best" thread....this is always going to end in fighting......and for this reason
thread closed.

I think these builds are changing too fast and folks are flashing from one to the next too fast for these results to have much of a lifespan. By the time I check back tomorrow I'll probably be on a different build.

Yeah, but it's interesting to see what everyone has now! I'm sticking with H for the foreseeable future, since so far it works well for me.
Might want to include JF's builds in their as well. I'd be interested to know how many actually switched over from JF's builds (as those are the most stable and complete).
Personally, I'm on The Dude's G build. I loved Haykuro's G build and switched over after the market fiasco and haven't gone back. It does mostly everything I need. I tried the H build and hated it and I wouldn't mind being back on JF's RC33 as I do miss the app compatibility, but I can't give up the correct SMS Canadian timestamps, increased standby mode battery life, faster browser, awesome google VK, and the other benefits that come with the 1.5 builds.

Still rock RC33-based JF. Stability over new features for me.
I'm on Dudecake for the Moment. It's as stable as JF in respect to app's Force Closes; I've got some sound/volume issues.

I understand i should have included the JF's builds.
I'm on Haykuro H build. I'm loving it too. I haven't updated to Hr4 yet.
i use The dude build, since the other g build the market got broken
I'm on the new Dude 8 build as well miner issues still being worked out but should be fixed with in the next two updates so ill stick with this. I heard something about stable builds this is as stable as JF builds even with the few issues. I have tried the H build which is also very good but dont feel any build is as stable as the Dude 8 build,I also used the G build which was very good until the market problem also the lack of features was a turn off.
The Dude 8 build is what i suggest.
I'm thinking about trying the dude build myself.

You haven't noticed yet? Market is back on G builds
Me? H appstosd since day one, Tried the G and didnt like it
I liked the G builds, felt like "home." THEN I discovered the camera in the H builds. Better still, I went A2SD and became a fan for life. Not wanting to be biased, I tried all the builds and have gone about mixing and matching all week. I flashed Dude's .8, Haykuro's Gr4, and back to Hr4 in a matter of hours.
Then I found out I was biased. Any G build better come hard core with the camera to win me back. That's a build-breaker for me now that I've seen that the camera is not-as-crappy as previously believed.

Well... many people here spent 200-400$ on their phone.
For 100$ you can get a cheap digital camera at walmart with digital zoom and crappy effects. I've messed with a lot of camera phones(Tmo dealer) and none of them really compare to a "real" camera. Until they start building phones with optical zoom, you kids can keep cropping your pics. LOL

After messing around with about 5 or so different ROMs i found, what i think to be the fastest Hero ROM ever.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=918
It runs really well, and is very snappy.
For myt3g, it needs the blurry fix, which he provides also... but after that... no bugs whatsoever. I am running this on a class4 sandisk 4gb flash, with 512 ext4 and 192 swap. awesome!
32A Or 32B ??
32B, since its for the MT3G/G1
32B. i am loving it!

For my work well on a Vodafone 32b, only many app crash without apparent reason, any solution for it?
-CarMode
-FonMaps
-Buka
-SU File Manager & Terminal
And many others apps can't work on this ROM
Can you solve this feature?
And one more question, is possible base this ROM on Android 1.6? I think it can work more fast with Donut, because it is more optimized for 32b devices.
Wow!!!
I was a little skeptical about trying a ROM from a dev from another site, but man I'm glad I did. This thing is incredible! I've only been using it for about 5 hours but I think this just shut the Hero ROM game down! I made a 192MB swap partition with 80 swappiness, and clocked the CPU to 384-528. No force closes, no reboots, apps spring open, the desktop screens scroll fluidly, apps pop open immediately, very fast keyboard, so far this seems fast as vanilla Android! So far my only complaint is there is no weather on the flip clock for some reason. I have been using "Weather Widget - Donate" from the Market instead. Oh, and the Mighty Max audio clip during start up is a little annoying, but definitely not a deal breaker. Try it, trust me!
How fast? Good enough??
Personally I don't think talking about the word fast any more an issue for 32A Magic. I have been trying most of 32B Hero ROMs and there is noting significant I say about them on my 32A. Every Hero ROM looks frikin fast to me now.
I believe is that how much of battery would run along on a single charge that what we should address on Hero ROMS now. Drizzy's Blur 1.5.7 Hero ROM last long fine. After all its CyanogenMod 4.1.999 is that I can say the best.

This ROM is posted here on xda in the dream forum -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=570700
I flashed it last night - 32b - and I have to say, I'm impressed and surprised. This one is running really smooth - and very responsive. "Best" one I've tried yet.
Where is this guy, and why is he not active in XDA?!
This is BY FAR the best Hero ROM i have ever tried... WOW!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING! (I could kiss you! haha)
MightyMax, I could kiss you too!
One question: Has anyone tried straining from the default swap settings, maybe enabling CC and backing_swap? If so, please post your results.
Personally I find this ROM flying, and even Benchmark Pi is FASTER than with CyanogenMod, but I am wondering what we could get by playing around with CompCache... In the meantime, I'm going to try and tweak it, and be sure to post results back here.

i thought it would be unhelpful if it was testkeys and not released keys? for all that commotion about DDR not wanting to release it to protect his sources, im surprised he gave it up.
So what exactly is this? How is this different from other hero roms?
If I read this correctly, this is based on 32a ROM with native Sense UI for the 32A Magic? Two questions... does it include Exchange support? And, is there some way I can use it for my 32a magic?

the difference is its suppoes to be the highly anticipated 32A sense ui update for magics. native rosie for magic. different from other hero updates is this is not meant for hero, so no porting is needed to get it to work on magics.

Yeah, and because of that I was actually expecting Spare Parts to be a fork of enom's N1 Spare Parts source, but a decompile (thanks, apktool!) shows that's almost certainly not the case, because then my code originating from GUSTO would have been in there as well.
The expsetup scripts were pulled from TheOfficial v2.5.1, which makes sense as expsetup (though not the library, which both expsetup and GUSTO call into) was stripped down in v2.6.x due to the inclusion of GUSTO.
There's good reasons to use enom's init scripts, though, including a very flexible a2sd implementation with regard to partition layout, so I can certainly understand.
I doubt enom has a problem with it, but though I occasionally try, I cannot speak for him. In any case, it is considered good practice to acknowledge the source of such things in the OP.
EDIT: Incidentally, while I'm not that familiar with smali, from what I can tell the Spare Parts options in question don't have any system behavior hooked up to them. They're just updating some application shared preferences.
I don't care about 2.1 anymore, I just want a fast phone now. I'm starting to regret my Hero purchase and probably won't go to the EVO(*gasp*) and will instead go for a black berry or palm something. Its plain stupid to have your own phone mess up what your typing or doing because it can't process it fast enough. I can't use my phone for web browsing(too laggy) and anything that requires typing(too laggy, mistypes abc as acb, etc)

thanks for helping.
You have to wait till the official 2.1 is released from HTC for all those features.
nope not yet
Not released, but it is possible to cook one yourself, but you would be stuck using 1.5 since the source for the kernel is required and that has only been released for the .27 kernel and the camera is only supported under 1.5 with that kernel.

If you're upset about lag, why would you ever choose a palm or blackberry over the 1GHZ Evo??
when the the nexus 1 launch for sprint, and isnt the evo better than the N1

I do agree that it is irritating to have slow features, But if you are running a custom 2.1 rom such as fresh or DC, I reccomend uninstalling the HTC Mms.apk, and just install the standard android 2.1 Mms.apk
Its alot smoother, in fact no lag at all.
Also the web browser on this phone absolutely sucks, it is worse than opera mobile on wm, it is unbearably slow.
Use opera mini, it loads up everything in 2-3 seconds, its very fast.
I agree totally with mjz147 about the Vanilla MMS.apk being MUCH faster then the HTC one..
Also using one of the replacement keyboards will work very well IMO. I'm currently using Swype, and loving it.
Dolphin Browser is also a great alternative to the stock one..
There are plenty of options and configurations available to make the phone much faster then stock even WITHOUT overclock.. My phone feels twice as fast as it did at stock running whatever custom rom I've run....
With all these options here.. I cant see why you'd go to a Palm or BB.. Its Android all day in this *****.

1. You need a 1.5 Rom. Those Roms come with the 2.6.27 kernel (which the source was released). Toast fixed the EXT4 and did the overclock. If you wish, I can build you a kernel with the Rom that you choose for these functions.
2. The HTC keyboard does suck in its lag. I personally like the stock Android keyboard. There's a few developers that incorporate those into their Roms and I know some have them as themes. I'll look for you.

If he stays with 2.1. But from the first message, it sounds like he's fed up with 2.1.
He can get all those features with 1.5...the kernel will have to be compiled (I have the EXT4 code, I need to add Toast's overclock patch, which is no big deal).
As for the keyboard, anything is better than the HTC one. I used to think that was the greatest keyboard until I played with stock Android. The stock Android is fast. I heard the Skype keyboard is good...haven't used it yet.
There's a gumbo 1.5c rom and an overclock here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/10138-gumbo-1-5c-overclock.html
I'm using it, it's fast as hell and camera works great.
Not sure that you can use ext4 though, but I figure that's the least of my sacrifices.
Lets be serious, if your phone has lag at all you obviously havent done enough reading on this forum. With all the options available on this site alone you either dont know how to mod your phone correctly, or are NEVER going to be satisfied with it.
With that said, i could use a spare, i'll give $25 for it...
EDIT: Not trying to hurt anyones feelings or be big an bad over the keyboard, just stating the obvious.

From your response I gather that you must have never used a BlackBerry before. Any android with a physical keyboard > BlackBerry (for the things you are complaining about). That said I hate physical keyboards and Swype > All.

I will give you $26 for that worthless pile of phone.
I've never met anything as stupid as this post! You are crazy! Go get a blackberry or better yet an IPhone, these phones are not for you!
