Anyone Figure Out What Application Puts Icons on Taskbar (Similar to XP)? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, I was just surfing and saw an interesting screen cap (attached). Notice how the taskbar has icons showing all the applications that are open. Think thats a pretty nifty app

Try WkTASK

Yea, Wktask is it... is just checked...
Install it to the device, then Go to Start>Programs>Wktask
Then it should add the Pc like menu.
TESTED AND WORKS

Sweet, I wonder if there is more then one of these apps? Just checked out the link it has a lot of other options to. Hmmm, it would be great if there was an application that just did this function so the memory on the phone is used to the minimal.
Good find though thanks

Put it on your Sd Card

lol, not storage memory but use of free memory (ram). My mogul barely has any as it is

Task Manager for putting apps in tray?

I know it's out there, but I can't find it anymore.
What's the name of a task manager that puts icons in the system tray for each running app, and giving access to them by a simple click on them?
Tia!
Oke, I just found "True Toolbar" from ValkSoft.
It's pretty much what i was looking for.
But, are there any others?
grtz.

anyone...?
Read the whole tread. Best task Manager ever!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330855
sort of similar would be O2 Plus which has a tray icon that you can select by scrolling down with the dpad. Once you have highlighted and selected a quick menu will pop up diplaying all the programs allow you to select one to open, or close, or the option to close all. I think this program is very useful. Compared to many other TM's its like Total Commander vs Resco. They both are very similar but one is very large while the other is small.
A programm, that puts apps on the desktop is this:
TrayLaunch.... please rename it to TrayLaunch.exe and copy it into Windows/StartMenu/Programs....no need to install.
The paths to the programs must be like this example
Add: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Office Mobile\Word Mobile.lnk
Look for Distances between words...sometimes programs are called OfficeMobile or otherwise Office Mobile and always at the end .lnk (Link), because in the StartMenu are always Links, not .exe
If you want the taskmanager with this feature, you must go to www.lakeridgesoftware.com Wisbar Advance 3 has this function. But it´s not free.
Good Luck.

Can you make claunch run in high res?

It pixel doubles on my Universl. I know I could use ilaunch or pocketplus, but claunch works well, and has quite a low overhead compared to these, but I hate the pixelated icons on a VGA display
Can't find anything on doing this after hunting around a bit, but I assume this was covered with either a yes or no quite a while back considering the age of the app and how long VGA displays have been out.
Ah, I found this http://park6.wakwak.com/cgi-bin/sbo...B3%AB%A5%A2%A5%D7%A5%EA%2FcLaunch%B2%FE%C2%A4
Can't read a damn thing on there, but I did guess at copying the dll file into the Windows folder.
Works in high res now, but still doesn't render the icons very nicely.
32 pixels are about the normal size compared to PocketPlus icons, but doubling to 64 only increases the box size, not the icon size. Trying anything other than multiples gives you the horrible pixelated icons again.
Getting there though....
Try this:
Get resource hacker and add a resource to the DLL.
Resource type should be "CEUX".
Resource name "HI_RES_AWARE"
and content 01 00 (hex, not that it matters)
This will turn off pixel doubling for the app. Whether this will help or make things worth (display everything 1/4 size) I don't know.
Worth a shot, just make sure to keep a copy of the original file, just in case.
I'll give that a go tonight thanks
For now I am experimenting with Device State to display my memory, and battery, and using it's own task manager, but claunch with small icons under that for the launcher with some tabs.
I could probably get away with using it for a launcher AND task manager since there's only really 5 or 6 apps I would use a lot, the rest could live on the start menu, and then I could free up some more resources.
I think I need to sit down and play with a few things out there, because having used PocketPlus for a very long time now, I am bored with the interface, and new devices don't feel new, because I end up using the same old apps every time.
OK after 4 hard resets, I think it's safe to say Device Status stops my system soft reseting, and it just hangs on the splash screen.
I hard reset, and installed claunch and the vga patch, worked, installed Device Status, and it hung. Hard reset and just installed Device Status, and it's hung again.
Need something else nice to display my memory, battery, and a task manager.
I don't want to use vbar or magic button. I like HTC X button, but that doesn't display running apps.
The close button on PocketPlus is the one I like best, or something like Wisbar Advanced or Magic button that display icons on the start bar.

touchflo 3d blocks access to system tray

Hello. I am a bit unhappy Touch PRO user because I love touchflo interface but would like also to use system tray-controlled software like openvpn or vsUtil.
I already installed secondtoday (also replaced the "Phone" softkey with it) but there is no way to make REAL tray icons appear there, only fake launcher stuff with Homescreen PLusPlus. The way left to access tray-controlled apps is to quit tochflo today plugin thru loooong series of taps thru settings.
I-d love an alternative such as make real tray icons still appear in Secondtoday or a lightweight tray icons porting popup app. Any other ideas/clues how to get an easy access to tray icons from touchfo....
Thanks for reading
Looking forward to hear Your thoughts
I agree.
My office forces us to use the Good email system. That software uses its own version of the email client, calendar and contacts. I'd like to reassign the tray "buttons" to point to the Good programs rather than being stuck with quick links to now unused versions of email, calendar and contacts.
Ira
Hi,
did you find a solution to the problem in the meantime?
Without the trayicons i have to choose between a pretty finger-enabled gui or using my universities WLAN.
Kind regards,
samoht

i assume you are talking about enlargetitlebar which which gives you easier hits on the "system tray" notifications. you should be able to disable it in the registry. mess around in hklm\software\htc. there might be an enable dword you can set to 0. i dont have it installed on my rom and i kind of miss it so i may try to get it back on my next flash.
No, i refer to the system tray at the bottom of today screen as shown in this screenshot.
The manilla interface is drawn on top of it and theres no easy way to access it. I have to disable touchflo in the settings, then start openvpn and afterwars reactivate touchflo. This is annoying... too bad openvpn relies on this.
oh yeah. forgot all about that thing. havent seen it in years. try a tf3d to today switcher thing. ive seen ones that it changes the left home tab soft key to the words "today" which lets you have a second today screen and today items and i guess the system tray too along side tf3d. ill try to find it again.
edit: try this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480475
@The Jack of Clubs:
Thanks so much! This works for me, i can switch between classic today screen and manilla rather fast!

Task Switcher

Hi there,
Have done some searching but not found anything. I may just not be looking very well, so sorry if that is the case.
On my old HD I remember an app (that you set to launch with the long press of a key) that brought up thumbnails of the apps you had running and allowed you to select which one you wanted to go to. Quite like Macs do if I remember correctly.
Basically I was wondering if there is an app around like that still. Ideally I'd love an app that would do that when I shook the phone, so then I could shake the phone, thumbnails of the apps would appear and I could select which one I'd like to run.
Not sure if there is anything like that or if anyone has the time/knowledge to make something like it.
Thanks.
There are loads of taskmanagers to be found. Like HTC's taks manager, and there is a .cab which makes this work on the HD2 (search on this Leo forum). I myself use wktask, which give a taskbar with icons of running apps, and press them to give them focus. I do not know of one with screenthumbs....
the one you are asking for is taskfasade....

Problem with Duttys Task Mamager

Hi, I've installed Duttys Task Manager, but it doesn't appear in the start menu, or in "Tools", but it does appear when I look to uninstall it from Start>Settings>Application>Manage application>Remove
I've tried several times with and without soft reset, but it's always the same.
It doesn't appear in File Explorer on the HD2, or Explorer on my desktop machine either (Vista Ultimate, 32 bit).
I'm also running these programs:
Two Peaks Billrate
eWallet
Gyrator2
Mobireader
Start Menu Grid 4
SPB Time3 (Demo)
TCPMP_netDrg V2
? Duttys Task Manager?
The end result I'm trying to achieve is to stop Gyrator2 exiting when I end all tasks from the task manager. I understand that Duttys Task Manager will let me do this.
Any ideas or alternative suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi. I think you cannot choose what programmes remain running with the task manager(Duttys)unless you close each app individually(leaving Gyrator running)
Hi, thanks for your reply. This is what I'm doing at the moment - closing each app individually - but I thought I'd read somewhere on the forum that Dutty's had an exclusion list. Maybe I'm wrong, in which case I won't bother with Dutty's at the moment. It's not that big a deal, but I only find out that Gyrator's not running when I need it. Cheers.
Hello again. I think you could use another task manager called showacase or showcase. That app has a config option.I'm not at home at the moment but i thnk i have it. once i get home, ill upload it for you.
Use the Touch X Task Manager. You can find it here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
It gives you a task manager available from Sense (top-right corner). If you go into settings (click the wrench icon) then you can select any running app and add it to the exclusions list.
Hope this helps
Thanks rumz82 and johncmolyneux. I HAVE got Dutty's Task Manager after all. Like the Touch X Task Manager it creates a drop-down menu in the top right corner where several options are offered. I must be blind 'cos I didn't notice it! I haven't tried the options yet because I didn't want to waste any more of anyone's time. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Heh - glad you found it okay. And I'm sorry mate, but LOL!!
I also like the word "mamager" thread title. It sounds like something for keeping boobs in order
Hum, yes, I see what you mean!
I'm not a very good typist, and sometimes a bit dyslexic. I usually rely on the spell-checker where I've put in all my usual mistakes for auto-correction. Another reason is that I usually work on my computer with an A4 pad in front of the keyboard for taking notes, and this doesn't give me a very good typing position. When I remove it I'm a lot more accurate, but I need it when I'm in problem-solving mode. Cheers.

I'm just having a bit of fun at your expense mate I'm terrible for going back and re-editting stuff that I typed previously. I'm just a real pedant, so I notice EVERYTHING! lol
No problem - I'm just as bad. I like good English and am a bit like you in that respect. I used to teach english as a foreign language, and I do like good grammar and spelling. I suppose I should be more tolerant but the quality of some of the posts really niggles me, and I'm talking about the posts by people where English is their first language!
Anyway, I've had a play with Dutty's Task MaNager, and it does what I need, but thanks for your help anyway. I wouldn't have noticed the drop-down menu without your post.
I've noticed your credit in the work with Co0kie.HomeTab_v1.6.1. I've read the posts and I'm very interested in getting more quicklinks on my home page, and more appointments too. Am I correct in thinking that I can do this without editing the registry? I've got confused. Are you the right person to ask?
Thanks again.

First of all, I'm glad you got your original issue sorted, and I'm happy to help
Secondly, Co0kie's Home Tab will modify the Sense Home Tab so that you can have multiple pages of quicklinks, ranging from 3x3 to 5x5. All the settings are registry entries, and that's where I came into the story. I made the CHTEditor which gives you the ability to change all the settings that Co0kieMonster made available to us, but via a GUI.
The GUI is unfortunatly a bit lacking in some respects (you have to click some things two or three times before they work; certain things are difficult to change etc.), but that will be resolved in the next version. The current version does work, and obviously makes it a lot easier to set up Co0kie's most excellent mod.
Have fun playing with your new home tab. It made my phone easily twice as useful!
Had the same issue. For me Duttys Task Manager just didnt show up in the right corner after installation.
But it showed up after the installation of another app.
For me i also felt that my battery drain was faster with the task manager AND after bootup it takes way longer until Sense is fully reacting on my input with it installed.
So i uninstalled it and now im using the Task Manager that comes with the HD2.
I have a shortcut in the Co0kies Home Tab to it and everytime im finished with an app i open the task manager and close all running apps. Simple but good
Thanks dameon12 - maybe I wasn't so blind after all! I'm not away from my charger for very long at the moment so I'm not able to comment on the battery life. I installed Dutty's Task Manager to stop Gyrator closing so that my screen will always change from portrait to landscape for applications where a wider screen is more useful - in my case, spreadsheets.
I'm experimenting in using my phone to send information I collect in my work back to base so I don't have to carry a laptop with me. I'm designing the spreadsheets to fit the screen in landscape mode.
Thanks also for the info about Co0kie's Home Tab. I'm going to experiment with that in a few days time when I've got a bit more time.
Cheers.
