It pixel doubles on my Universl. I know I could use ilaunch or pocketplus, but claunch works well, and has quite a low overhead compared to these, but I hate the pixelated icons on a VGA display
Can't find anything on doing this after hunting around a bit, but I assume this was covered with either a yes or no quite a while back considering the age of the app and how long VGA displays have been out.
Ah, I found this http://park6.wakwak.com/cgi-bin/sbo...B3%AB%A5%A2%A5%D7%A5%EA%2FcLaunch%B2%FE%C2%A4
Can't read a damn thing on there, but I did guess at copying the dll file into the Windows folder.
Works in high res now, but still doesn't render the icons very nicely.
32 pixels are about the normal size compared to PocketPlus icons, but doubling to 64 only increases the box size, not the icon size. Trying anything other than multiples gives you the horrible pixelated icons again.
Getting there though....
Try this:
Get resource hacker and add a resource to the DLL.
Resource type should be "CEUX".
Resource name "HI_RES_AWARE"
and content 01 00 (hex, not that it matters)
This will turn off pixel doubling for the app. Whether this will help or make things worth (display everything 1/4 size) I don't know.
Worth a shot, just make sure to keep a copy of the original file, just in case.
I'll give that a go tonight thanks
For now I am experimenting with Device State to display my memory, and battery, and using it's own task manager, but claunch with small icons under that for the launcher with some tabs.
I could probably get away with using it for a launcher AND task manager since there's only really 5 or 6 apps I would use a lot, the rest could live on the start menu, and then I could free up some more resources.
I think I need to sit down and play with a few things out there, because having used PocketPlus for a very long time now, I am bored with the interface, and new devices don't feel new, because I end up using the same old apps every time.
OK after 4 hard resets, I think it's safe to say Device Status stops my system soft reseting, and it just hangs on the splash screen.
I hard reset, and installed claunch and the vga patch, worked, installed Device Status, and it hung. Hard reset and just installed Device Status, and it's hung again.
Need something else nice to display my memory, battery, and a task manager.
I don't want to use vbar or magic button. I like HTC X button, but that doesn't display running apps.
The close button on PocketPlus is the one I like best, or something like Wisbar Advanced or Magic button that display icons on the start bar.

I have spent the last several days searching googling etc.. to no avail It boggles my mind I can not find this I must just be using the wrong keywords in my searches.
I want to skin the today screen or replace it I do not care. I have a PPC 6700 on sprint. I want the background image to be FULL screen either by getting rid of the top and bottom status bars or Skinning them. However it needs to be done.
here is a link so you can get an idea of what I am after LEFT is how my screen looks now RIGHT is how I "desire" my screen to look.
http://www.nerys.com/stuff/ppc Its the Today.jpg
Any suggestions? How would I accomplish this?
Thanks!
This is "one" of the many ways to remove the topbar:
http://oldsap.blogspot.com/2006/08/themegence-tips-from-newbie2.html
WOW thanks SO much that looks to be exactly what I want. Only problem is it SHOWS the top and bottom removed but gives NO indication at all as to how to actually do it :-( moaning SOO close. I got the theme program. Help file is useless. Website contains no clues no forums etc..
Any Ideas ? I am playing with the program right now but I see NO "obvious" means with which to accomplish this.
AHH now I understand (found another thread) this is in combination with a program VJToggle that gets rid of the start and new bars. Alas I do not want to get rid of them I just want to add transparency or skin them :-(
i found a feature of ultimate launch 1.2, find and install... then find its directory, there are two files in the folder "smart tools" dcinobar.exe (removes bottom soft keys) and toggle.exe (toggles top bar on/off)
a nice thing is the actual buttons still bring up the menus and soft keys still work, the visual element is just removed from the today screen.
i copied dcinobar to the windows directory and placed a shortcut in the start up folder.
i have since uninstalled ultimatelaunch but i have a great today screen without soft keys!
skinning today screen
hello all,
i have a similar problem, i am running a MIps pocketpc2000 device, i run pocket blinds to give the toolbars additional features that the stock toolbars dont give, my question is this on many of the demo pictures of the device the screen shows the top and bottom toolbars with the today screen overlayed with a picture in the background, i have found various today plugin's that allow a picture to be displayed but not behind, it inserts it below under the appointments and tasks, thus showing part of the picture. any suggestions as i assume it is registry related as the image (white background) must get pulled from somewhere??
I disabled touch flo 3d right away because it seems like pointless eye candy. It seems like a sloppy rough integration that is a greater impedance than an assistant. Or is it just me
Have you modified it with the tweaks to enhance the performance? All it is is really just another shell, your preference there.
its the first thing i disabled. in my opinion its pretty darn ugly...except for the weather thing, its kind of cute. but i like having all my stuff on the home screen where i can see it all at once
As you can see, you are clearly outvoted. They had the same poll over at ppcgeeks (How many are still using TouchFlo3D) and of the 320 people who participated,80% were still using it.

TF3D brings an essential level of style to Windows Mobile.
Surur
Style, schmile!
If I wanted style I'd have the Jesus phone that Apple makes - with one of the great cases from Vaja.
Instead, I want to look at my screen and gain information. On my day, on the stock market, on the weather and on the number of messages I am currently blowing off.
I too liked the weather bit. I also appreciated that TF3D goes a good job at memory management. Maybe when I get the time to learn how to customize it, I'll return to TF3D.
For now, though it is back to WinMob running Pocket Breeze in full screen mode with panels for pA and Pocket Weather.
I really like it. It gives me access to what I need to see when I glance at the screen (except tasks) and finger-touch access to programs.
It does screw up maybe once a day though requiring a soft reset. I applied the mods recommended and they made my TP freeze a lot so I changed them back to default.
It's actually a great enhancement to WM. almost everything that needs to be readily accessible is "touchable" no need to get irritated and use the tip of my nail to make sure I press it just right. Even the corner X close button works almost flawlessly because the screen touch area is now flush.
I know there has been some whining but this really is the best match, easy touch interface for the simple phone stuff, and the ability to use a keyboard and a stylus for things that just aren't feasable to use efficiently with a finger on a touch screen.
I'm a very happy camper with the Fuze... well except for that ****ing GPS crap.
I'd also like to add that I think most of us really created and adapted ways to be able to not use the touchscreen for a lot of things, and with good reason considering how much I hate using a stylus to navigate a UI. So I think a ton of us bring a certain baggage about using our fingers because it just really did always suck that bad. Which thanks to HTC it really doesn't now. Plus this screen may not be like the capacitive Iphone but man it's definitely a lot smoother, the word "silky" comes to mind with how it feels compared to my Tytn.
I'm not sure which one of the 2 voting options is meant to be good
Some people are just afraid of change. As there still millions of windows 98 users out there. LMAO, people need to move with the times
Touchflo3d is indeed the most beautiful interface I've ever seen. It remained for about one month on my mobile phone. After that I still installed pocket plus (the program who puts icons dirrectly on screen and used only one tab in which I put all my programs).
Reason 1: functionality. It takes several moves in TF3D to do simple tasks. For example if I am in the home screen I cannot start with a single click an app. I have to scroll (and be quite carrefull to go in the desired position) and after that start a program etc. Imagine if in Windows you would be forced to use start, programs every time if you wanted to use an program...it'll kill you. That's why we activate programs by clicking the icon on the screen after all...it's the fastest way. All in all, to be clear, if it would be a contest between a TF3D and a Pocket Plus-type of program, everytime the pocket plus device will "click" the application faster, while in TF3D depends on where TAB are you..
Reason 2: familiarity with Windows way of activating programs. As I said before it's more simple for me to simply activate the icon on screen and not bother with some paradigm of displaying emails or SMS (and related to that, do you want to be able that someone can take a look at your info by simply scrolling to that tab? I don't)
Reason 3 -not quite a reason, but a proof that this a better interface in my opinion: the simple-icon-on-display type of interface is actually validated by the Iphone which we all know as a beautiful device at least.
I like Touchflo3d, but I missed my usual today screen setup.
The easy answer is to use secondtoday, that way I get the best of both worlds, one tap on the screen switches between them.

maybe thats why I'm having so much trouble with the touch screen. I tap something,,,, wait 5 seconds,,, tap again,,,, wait 6 seconds then give up and get out the stylus. Maybe I should re-enable touchflo to stop this problem

Performance wasn't really the issue for me. It just seemed like pointless eye candy.
James, you'll really find SPB Pocket Plus really nice. The thing with it is to remove all the tabs, as they really only generate useless clicks to navigate where your program is, and in final squeeze in one tab only the icons you need. I have 3x5 icons(with no text and large size enabled) and if I really think some of them I don't really need - like powerpoint and so on.To give an exameple this is what I consider usefull:Comunication Manager, Resco Explorer, HTC Album, Igo, Camera, Excel, Word, Coreplayer, sms, activesync, radio, opera, 1-calc (a very nice calculator) and notes. And supplimentary I have enabled the calendar and date plugins in today screen. This is a very nice setup - eficient - and if you set a non transparent background, very nice, kinda stylish look. Now, I have seen that you complained about precision of tapping - beware that in the margins and corners of display you'll have sometimes to get out the stylus. Give that pocket plus a try.It really made my days.

Definitely NOT at all. We must be on different spectrum of the universe. I like TF3D a great deal, make navigating the phone intuitive and seamless. It is just you.
Without TF3D, my Sprint TP would just be any other run of the mill Win Mobile big screen phone. My 39 cents.
TF3D is totally kickass! I love it for everything. Althought I do wish they had the map intergration that they have in TF2D. I also want the stocks tab and am waiting for the hd manilla to be perfected . Other than that, the original htc theme, with q-style font, my personalized background, tweaks from diamond config, and stock fuze rom, it runs pretty darm fast. Only did a soft reset once and that waas because I was attempting to run a qvga application and it crashed.

I agree. Let's not turn into a bunch of iPhone cattle. They stick to their phones like cult even when plagued with numerous problems.
Get SPB mobile. It blows TFTD out of the water.

Back to the subject, it's all a personal preference. I think it's great, and makes the phone a lot more fun and a little easier to use, you don't, but nobody is right or wrong on this one.

BTW I have been using TFL3D since when I got my TP in August. SPB Shell seems outdated now but I have it installed anyway, accessible via Second Today
Ok I'm not quite good enough for this untaking but figured I'd put my findings out there.
There are 2 sets of registry setting that change the size of everything on your screen.
HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE
HKLM\System\GWE\Display
Entries= LogicalPixelsX & LogicalPixelsY appear in both
Normally they are 96x96, I changed them to 120x120 (+25%) and now everything on my screen is 25% bigger. The Topber Icons are now 20x20 pixels instead of 16x16. Now you can make this what every % bigger you want, but the key is everything in the ROM must be scaled to this size. All images, everything or certain features may not load. For example I have WinMo G.S and because my CPR for the Start Menu is not scaled it will not load on screen. Here's a screen shot of what my screen looks like now.
total noob post that has nothing to do with the awesome tweak but, how do you change the taskbar icons? i did a quick search and got lost.

All of the guides I've been seeing are tailored toward 192 pixel resolution instead of 96. I've been messing with changing the Start menu graphic, among others, and it would be nice to have an icon legend as a reference so that other users can know which icon to change. The numbers for the VGA ones aren't matching up with the QVGA ones.

I tried entering 192 in my tilt and the items became way too big. The start Menu Icon was off screen. Luckily I have a registry editor I can use from my pc to change it back otherwise I would have been hard reseting a lot.
Hi guys,
Sense UI won't let me add a brightness control to the main screen. Can anyone suggest a decent and simple app to manually control screen brightness please?
I would have loved to have used the LUMOS auto back light app but that needs HTC drivers I believe :-( D'oh.
Try MVBklight 1.4.3
It's quite old but I've never found something better. I just use it also on my HD2 when I want to override the sensor. For the TG01 I think it's perfect.
I'll check it out. Thanks for that EDIT: Could only find 1.4.2 on XDA.. so googled it and got 1.4.3.
UPDATE: Can't get it to work. Maybe I need to edit the english config file to add in the TG01 or something?
ok, I'll give you all settings for TG01. But please hold on. I got to retrieve from my archive. My TG01 is under repair and I don't have settings close at hand. Please come back later.
Fab, really appreciate that
Here you are.
Attached you find screenshots of configuration for TG01.
As you can see minimum brightness value is 57, maximum is 255. You got to take it in account if you want also to use links to control brightness via command parameters.
I remember I had problem with links (I dont remember exactly what). So I also attached (syntactically) corrected links. But you have to localize the name of your program folder inside them.
MVBklight provides even a today plug-in. I am afraid it doesn't work. But I think it would not be so usefull, especially if you use Sense.
In the configuration you can see the use of a vga skin. Be sure to provide it (one is included in the package you downloaded). I tried to custominze the skin with other images but I didn't success, probably due to a wrong image format. I accualty spent few minutes on this, so if you get it right and achieve a nicer skin, let me know!
So, add a link to Popup.exe in your Sense UI and enjoy your brightness slider.
Please, ask if you need more.
P.S.
Ehi, remember that with MVBklight you get a torch too.
Thanks for that I'll download and try these tomorrow Odd that minimum is 57! (or is that the minimum YOU want it to ever be?)
It's not me.
On TG01 values below 57 have no effect. As for values over 255. It depends on device.
On HD2 minimum is 1 and maximum is 10. So on HD2 you can just change brightness by steps of 10% while on TG01 variation is much more smooth.
Again, it depends on hardware of device.
Fantastic. Finally got it working with those settings I will have a go at some other skins perhaps Now have brightness control on the screen.
The big mistake was me not swapping to 'manual', so it never saved my changes.
UPDATE: just playing around with the icon/images for better one's. Strangely, not every icon seems to work even if it's in the same size and format, it's really odd. Trying to change the bar's.. let's see what happens.
UPDATE2: Really struggling with these images. Even if I only edit them and save as the original type.. they won't show up. Bizarre. It's a little bit annoying actually. I'll have to keep trying as I want it to fit more into the them of black/white Sense UI.
I played right now with Resco Photo Manager.
Just doodled on left.bmp and saved.
It works.
Can't do more tests. I am at work...
Let's keep on trying. It's a long time I'd like to change the skin!

Could you share some pictures or a video? It sounds interesting! I'm using an free program called Metrix from http://www.apoxsoft.com/products/metrix/ and it works perfectly. But it's a Today plug-in, so it doesn't work on Sense.
Although it seems a little dated, it can be fully configurated. If any interested I can give you the TG01 parameters for brightness control
Best Regards
I am trying the following files. (THe 'RIGHTOLD.BMP' should be right.bmp btw) The only one that actually displays is the SLDR one :-( Annoying.
Trying to mess with them some more to see if I can make them work.
@Pere
Here you are a screenshot.
It's the easiest way to control brightness. I have the link in the bulb on the left of the screen but on TG01 also double tapping the zoom bar so the slider will pop up on whatever application is running in that moment.
Metrix is nice. But it's only a plugin for the today. I really need a popup instead.
@Scougar
Yes, your sldr.bmp works. Not the others. I tried to resave them from Resco Photo Manager but with no success.
The strange thing is that the left.bmp attached is the original with some doodling and saved from RPM. It works but the doodling results in a trasparency as you can see in attached screenshot where I changed the color of the background to make it clear.
I think that there is something to understand regarding how trasparency is handled. Could be that our images are treated for some reason as totally trasparent?
So i been using my SG7+ since Dec 6th.. and couldnt be happier... i have had my share of the sleep of death issue and other hickups but i've been ussing the reccomended fixes...
for the sleep of death im using soflocker free and have not seen the issue ever since.
I did not like the jerkiness of the touchwiz launcher and switched to the ADWlauncher EX. that thing is fast... anyways, there were things i did not like for instance, i was not able to get full screen videos... untill i instaled honeybar (Yeii ) had to instal button saviour too.. its a must...
Next i hated that i had puny icons on the home screens and could not figure out how to change them to the high res version icons that touchwiz uses... bumping up the icon size does not change them, they only look larger but blurry...
then i wanted more screen real state so i installed lcd density and then a funny thing happened... when i lowered the density value to 120 it changed the icons to the Hires verison... so i kept playing and found that at 130 it looks fantastic...
it also gave me a new toolbat on top (status bar) that i did not have before...nothing to jump about but i guess it was not showing up because of the screen resolution limit.
im happy now...
peace.
Now just out of curiosity, since you said you adjusted the screen density, does the stock browser still work or does it crash? I've heard of it crashing before when you mess with the screen density?
And I agree the ADWlauncher EX is so much faster than the stock one! My only gripe is I had to lock it to landscape on account it stretches the heck out of stuff.
The stock browser works fine at 132...However i dont use it, i use dophin, ohh I changed the density to 132 and it made some widgets look a lot better...
Yeah i dont like how AWD streaches stuff either, but its a matter of finding the right grid size so that when it does you still have a good looking widget. Im using a 7X7 grid size and it looks great... ill see if i can post some screens.
The only gripe i have is that if the device reebots or i turn it off i have to do the density thing again. No biggie though.
Ok, I've found a few apps that wont work properly with the lower density value... like the Memo app in portrait... I do use this type of app so I changed to Slide notes... for now...
I dont know if there is a Density changer app that can change only for some apps and not all? i might be asking too much.. but oh well i cant have it all.
for now im using 133 for density value, and seems to be the best for me right now.
Guys if you are rooted you can hard code the density into the build.prop
For this I'd say use root explorer open it, navigate to the system folder, mount it a R/W. Then open your build.prop file in text editor.
Find this line, or add it which ever one.
ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx
Make the xxx what ever you want it to be. 132, 133, 120 or whatever. Then save and and reboot. Done. Now the density will stick everytime.
Thus eliminating the need for any sort of density changer app. Unless you just like changing it every time lol.
Sent from my ICS'd themed Galaxy Tab 7+
So you are saying using an app it just applies it and after reboot it goes back? Or is it more broad (across all apps) like gucabe is looking for?
Thanks a lot Antio, i'll give it a try tonite.
Good tip, I've been trying it out at higher levels in an attempt to get the proper notification bar back without usable results, but I never did try moving it down.
At 130; the button bar is a good size now, so that I'm not having to use honeybar (great app!) in a lot of the apps that I'm using. Also, now the notification area can display 3 icon notifications instead of the usual one in portrait (MAJOR BONUS) !!
Nothing abnormal encountered so far, fingers crossed.
I'm loving it
Thanks again!
UPDATE: After playing around now just two things I've noticed: it's actually able to fit four icons into the notification area, and also the "Stretch/Zoom to fill screen" toggle is a little bit not needed and is taking up one of those spots.
I cant never gwt button savior to work. The only button that works is the back button and nothing else.
For example, pressing. The Home button didn't do anything.
I am using Go Launcher, btw.
130 dpi & Contact
So far, I get problem with Contacts & Samsung keypad at 130dpi.
FYI
Well i have not made the ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx density change because im not all happy with some apps that default to a higher resolution screens. for instance the email App in portrait mode i cant see the left side of the page when writing an email. it's like it grew in canvas but more than what it needs to get viewed full screen on the SG7+
The solution is to rotate to landscape and you can see the whole page again... however i like typing in portrait...
Im still in test mode for the rest of the apps... i do preffer this resolution because of the added icons on the status bar... that rocks...
For a keyboard im using an ICS type of keyboard. i like the bigger keys and less keys on screen than the samsung one. works fine, however the previews are wonky while typing...
so again im still at 133 cause i find it to be better.
Messing with the DPI always causes issues somewhere. Its just a thing about finding out what you can, and cannot live with
Totally... I see a lot more advantages than disadvantages so ill stick with the 133dpi. I have added the thumb keyboard and this makes things easier to type in landscape mode, in this mode the samsung email and memo apps works fine.
Everything else is working fine.
120dpi is too tiny for my eyes... 134dpi and above doesnt change ADW launcher to tablet mode with HD icons... but 133 does... so its my personal sweetspot.
Thanks, and i guess ill be trying build.prop change next.
Well just to give you guys an update, i've opted out of the 133dpi... my eyes were hurting due to font being smaller... i know itryed other fonts out there and got better results but it was like trying to make everything bigger again??? then i saw in another thread that the SPB launcher was a good option as a launcher and decided to purchase it...
Im so pleased now that i have dropped the 133dpi resulution for the standard 160. This launcher is so gorgeous.. and has the hd icons in a reduced way that they look just right... My eyes are very happy now...
So now im running SPB 3d launcher + honeybar + button saviour. Every thing looks just fine now.

Guys if you are rooted you can hard code the density into the build.prop
For this I'd say use root explorer open it, navigate to the system folder, mount it a R/W. Then open your build.prop file in text editor.
Find this line, or add it which ever one.
ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx
Make the xxx what ever you want it to be. 132, 133, 120 or whatever. Then save and and reboot. Done. Now the density will stick everytime.
Thus eliminating the need for any sort of density changer app. Unless you just like changing it every time lol.

I'm changed from 160 to 133. I saved it and reboot, but then it stuck at Samsung logo. It doesnt go to the desktop. How do i fix this? Thanks in advance.
Stuck into boot logo? Reflash your ROM without wiping! If you don't know how to, and if you have no rom into your device just go into CWM advanced mount and storage and mount it as external storage. Put your rom into and flash it. You'll have everything back even your DPI
