Hi, I was wondering if anyone happens to connect to the RILOE Remote Integrated Lights-Out on a Compaq Proiant server with their device?
I'm putting together a system and hoping I can get it set up and working decent, I found out there was Ipaq/Pda support with a webbrowser, but it is a limited interface, but the full interface is accessable with IE 4.0 or any browser with Java 1.2 installed..I think it is.
Well with the new Netscape with Java, I am thinking I could get to the full web interface..but now that I think about it..on this smaller screen it will likely look terrible.
But anyhow..if anyone has any experience with the RILOE on pda's and thinks they have some info that might be helpful, or don't mind me bugging them for info, please let me know, I'm sure I'll run into few problems that will havin me pullin my hair out, setting up a headless server is all new territory to me, honestly I'm still wondering about the setup since the RILOE runs a mini webserver and I will also have server 2003 on the machine runnin a webserver, do I just run one on a non standard port? I dunno.
Sorry to get off topic, and thanks.
thinking about making a car pc out of an old small form factor computer. Since the roms code is small I was wondering if it can be done? If anoyne knows or has tried this id love to hear about it. Also if you know of any other versions of windows that might be appropriate for a car pc needs to work with bt audio sincd my head unit accepts a2dp. and able to run tomtom.
if you could use an emulator
but not sure if tomtom would work on an emulator
with gps
problem is that an os is binary code as in written to a surden
cpu
and cpu's in pc's speak a whole different "language" then the arm cpu's in our pocketpc's
of cause if wm is really running on Athena's x86(pc cpu)
then maybe
but ms dont really added support for other cpu types in a long time
they cut support really alpha cpu's from digital got removed with windows nt3.5
and mips and the other type got the axe with pocketpc2000
TomTom can work in an emulator, I tried it in my car PC. But it is not as nice as running, say, Destinator 6 directly in Windows.
Windows XP is actually your best bet - I have it (modded using nLite) running on a VIA EPIA 10000k and its performance is reasonable.
If you want to know more about car PCs, have a look at http://www.mp3car.com or if you are in the UK then http://www.digital-car.co.uk
You will of course find much more information there than here.
I'm not sure this will help, but here is some information on running Windows CE (and Windows Mobile 5) off a USB key. Most of it hinges on using the free Microsoft Device Emulator. Tweaking it to run on your PC directly shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Also I commend you on recycling an old computer rather than buying a new one!
Edit: Oops! After all that I forgot to add the link!
Here it is:

Hello Friends,
I am wondering if anyone has heard of emulating a Linux operating system locally on Windows Mobile (CE)? Something like PocketDOS but running a basic Linux operating system instead of DOS? I read about Bochs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291899), which may boot a Linux image, but from I've read Bochs doesn't work too well with newer Windows Mobile?
I know I can use Putty (SSH) or VNC and such for remote Linux access, but the goal here is to get some basic version of Linux running locally. I'm not sure Haret's Android port is ready for prime time yet (from what I've read) on my specific phone (Touch Pro 2)
Does anyone have any ideas? Please share, thanks.

It's possible to run Linux native, not emulated. Search for: HARET
Thanks for your response, but the idea at this point is to run Linux emulated, not native in Haret. I would love to run it Linux native using something like Android but unfortunately at this point Android doesn't look to be stable enough on my platform (Rhodium, Touch Pro 2) for 'production use'.
Any thoughts?
Android on the TP2 is improving every other day. Right now, power management and some features like Wifi, BT, GPS and Camera still aren't working, but things are progressing nicely
Moved as not software release...

I'm not saying use Android, but Haret + some linux system, just the console. I thought that's what you needed. There are different system packages available which you could boot, not necessairly Android.
Hi folks,
Well, i've done some searching, and as of yet have failed to locate anything that would work for this. I'm just wondering, is there any way to get Vent on my HD2?
You see, ended up with a little condensation in the comp and it fried what ever is used to control audio to my headset. Id like to use Vent on my phone so I don't bother my wife on my occasional gaming sessions.
Anyone point me in the right direction?
Not going to happen. There was a person that was working on a version but it was a long time ago and it was also only use able with a really old version of Vent. I tried it and it was buggy. The name of it was Centrillo.
The only other option you might be able to look into is booting a linux or Win95 build on the phone and going that route.
Yeah, tried Centrillo but that was a bust.
It looks like our only hope so far is to use one of various Android ports and then try out Mangler or Mumble or something like that.
I have not been able to try this as I have had a strange audio issue on pretty much every Android port i've tried thus far.
I don't suppose anyone that has access to a vent server, an HD2 with working audio on an Android port can try out Mangler and see how that works?
Does Mangler work with Ventrillo or something? You do know you can get ventrillo for free right? the only problem with the free version is you can only have something like 8 people on at once instead of the 32+ for the paid version.
version 3.0.5 is avalable for 95 if you where to boot it onto hd2 also it looks like a linux version is coming out....
http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Client programs
Windows i386 - 32bit - Win2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7 (Version 3.0.5)
Windows x64 - 64bit (Version 3.0.5)
Windows 9x - 95/98/ME (Version 3.0.5)
Mac OSX 10.4 or higher - 32bit (Version 3.0.7)
Linux - In development
if anyone else has any ideas or info let me no im interested on how far this can be devolped

EDIT: oh i found this lol posted in 2005, scrap the linux idea? http://forum.ventrilo.com/showthread.php?t=7071

Well I was able to load Mangler onto my Android build. The only issue with trying it right now is to change over the server I use to a newer version above 3.x because Mangler only works with the newer builds.
Hi there
After a tragic accident the touchscreen of my Nexus S lost its touch- prefix. I'm thinking into turning it into a linux machine to use as a small home server (I have many uses for those, I'm using serveral Raspberry Pi for this purpose), and I'm looking for the best solution.
I'm open to any Linux distribution (even if I am quite more familiar with debian derivatives). If possible, I would like to get rid of the Android stack itself because it is quite useless without touch input. I won't use a SIM card in it so I only need Wireless LAN.
Here are the options I have found so far :
- Using Ubuntu Touch and hoping it can be accessed with SSH and used like a "normal" distro (I had no luck installing it yet, but I will find out eventually)
- Installing Debian in a chroot over Android, but I don't know if it is possible to do with only adb access. This would not get rid of the Android stack but at least I would be sure to have a functional wireless stack.
Does anyone have pointers to how to achieve this ? Or other solutions ?
Thanks !
