Need to browse internet quickly on edge with a laptop - General Questions and Answers

I'm Getting a netbook in a day or two (Acer Aspire One) and I want to be able to browse the internet quickly through edge. I was wondering if there was a browser for Windows that worked similar to Opera Mini or Skyfire. It wouldn't be a problem for me to host the server from home but I want to tether to my Excalibur while I'm away from wifi. Does anyone know of anything like that.

Wifi Opera mini problem

Hey guys, I just recently downloaded Opera mini 4 beta 2 and I am very impressed. The only thing I don't like is that when im in my apartment and try to connect to my apartments wifi connection PIE would take me to a login page made by my apartment where I enter my login name and password before I can get internet access. However, when using opera It says connecting to service.. but it just says that it can't connect it never links me to my apartment login page. To get around this I start PIE first and login on that page and then I open Opera and it connects. Any way around this? any help would be appreciated greatly. thanks!
Spence
have you tried Opera Mobile
it's mini's bigger and better brother
it's not free but it's better
wm never been the best platform for

Remote Desktop Mobile vs. Vista SP2

Hi Devs,
since the upgrade to Vista SP 2 I am not able to access my PC any more via remote desktop mobile.
Accessing it via my notebook works well both from LAN and WAN side.
But as soon as I try to access it via Remote Desktop Mobile on my touch HD or my TG01 I receive a connetion error and have no idea why.
I would be very happy if you could help me to find a solution for that due to I really like to boot my PC from anywhere in the world an access my sweet home desktop.
Thanks and with best Regards

die_Leuchte,
you figure this out yet? I finally upgraded to sp2(vista home pre) and I ran into the same thing. Got it working again on my xp laptop but dont really want to fire up wifi router to connect through rdp. It's driving me nuts, MS making things better once again!
Can anyone help bring rdp back to life after sp2?
I believe you have to change a system setting on the Vista PC to allow previous versions of RDP to connect. Don't remember where the setting is, but I'm pretty sure that is what it is.
Also Home versions do not support RDP hosting. Only Pro or business or higher.
Thanks Hannigan, I figured the same as well. FYI RDP does work on Vista home with a small hack, but not since sp2. There is an sp2 hack but it only allows my laptop(winXP) to connect and not my mobile. I need to find the setting on the vista pc which tells it to ignore the rdp version connecting to it. If someone could post this it would really help!!!
ok what I figured out so far is, that you need to configure the rdp host to allow clients which does not have Network Level Authenticationnetwork to connect as well. Due to I have Home Premuim with a rdp hack I do not have the menu to enable cientas without nla to connect and I did not find another solution so far (for example a reg key).
i found some info on the registry keys but I don't think I can just plug them in and get it working. I'll keep trying and post anything I find.
If you need to configure it to allow lower versions to connect, it's here.

Thats exactly what is missing in Vista home premium
And thats why we search for another solution to allow any kind of clients to connect.

wifi app ?

Hi
Does anybody know if there is a app for the tg01 that does the following.
When I launch opera or internet explorer I have to select my wireless network first and then launch the browser.
On my wife's Nokia 5800 when you launch the web browser you get a popup that asks you if you want to use wifi or normal mobile internet.
Is there anything like this on the tg01 ? it seems so much easier that having to launch wifi and then launch the browser.
Thanks
Up to support ), yes, I'm waiting for this long time ago. Most of symbian fone have this function.

[Q] internet explorer for android tablet

i have been looking for a way to get internet explorer web sites to work on my tablet but have had no luck as of yet could someone help me out or is there something to do. tried the about:debug did not work. please help
thanks in advance
What tablet do you have and which version of android are you running? If your running ICS or your device has support for ICS you can try Chrome on your tablet.
I have the ZTE optik v55 running 3.2 Android

well after doing some research on the tablet....there are some rumors going around a OTA update for the Optik that's supposed to have android 4.0. But there's nothing solid. The other alternatives you could use are like Dolphin Browser HD and Opera Mini Web Browser. If you go with Dolphin be sure to set it as desktop so it will give you normal full sites instead of the mobile version of sites.

Use Opera HD instead of Dolphin and set it to desktop. This is as close as you will get to proper rendering. However, the site may play nicer with firefox set to desktop user agent.
I think ie is does'nt exist on android device CMIIW ....
You can try chrome if your tablet running ICS..
Thanks Opera works like a charm, thanks all of you for the information

What do you need Internet Explorer?
It's very lazy browser i think.
Maybe you should try Dolphin Browser or Opera(Mobile or Mini-i think Mini is better, light and faster)

That's all well and good, but I also could do with IE on Android because some sites I need to access are specifically written for IE. While I can fudge the Agent string to get round the checks the website does, once in, it doesn't render correctly and you can't use the site.
I wish IE was also available because the default browser is clunky. I've heard Dolphon Browser is good, anybody have an opinion on Dolphin?
help

That is a compatibility problem of poor web code of the website you're trying to access, not the browser.
IE is developed by Microsoft and since they have Windows Mobile I doubt they're going to port IE to android. That being said, there are probably some unofficiall unstable ports and google is your friend there, but it's surely not worth the hassle.

Dolphin is great in every way, except that it doesn't support flash in it's pages, like Firefox does (and in the case of IE compatibility; it won't be able to render IE specific ActiveX plugins). If anyone finds a way to emulate or run IE under Android; I'll be most interested to know what's involved.
Someone on another forum post somewhere, mentioned that IE mobile (assuming it works for the sites in question); could potentially be ported or emulated with a Windows Mobile emulator? AFAIK: nobody has done this yet (probably fearing reprisal from Microsoft). But if it was done in such a way that if you owned a WM device; you could pull the binary off the existing phone, and run it in an emulated form under Android (effectively avoiding some of the reverse engineering contract clauses, and having the owners assume responsibility for not distributing copied images (already in the MS EULA)...then it might be sufficiently grey area that you could have a personal copy running (be it rather wastefully)?
opera renders sites good like pc browser
i think it is the closest browser to pc's
