Empty programs list... Crap... - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey guys,
Today I noticed that my installed programs list under settings is empty. Did some research on the forum and found out that multiple users have had the same problem, mostly on other devices. Couldn't find a thread on the Raphael forum, so I thought I might aswell post it.
Some users state that screwed up policies are the sources of this problem. Could one of you post his/her registry settings under HKLM/Security/Policies/policies so I can compare to mine? I'm using the stock rom of the Dutch T-Mobile MDA Vario IV.
Oh yeah, while you do that, please make sure that you've disabled your device lock. Since if I start taking over your policies, my device will think I'm using a security code too. Not useful when I want to backup my stuff and hard reset when this policy thing fails... (Read that of from some user here on the forum).
Or does anyone know another fix rather than a hard reset?
Thanx!
Rahza
EDIT: No need for your input anymore, I just gave in and hard-resetted my Raphael. If anyone of you ever gets an empty list in the "add/remove programs" screen, the problem is in the databases. I found out after installing a backup after the hard reset --> all my installed programmes were gone in "add/remove programs". I hard-resetted again and in the backup file, I unchecked "restore databases" and everything worked fine.
Hope some of you finds this info useful.

Messaging and device lock disappeared from todayscreen

I just noticed that the today items messaging and device lock disappeared from my today screen on my Atom. I would like to get them back. anybody know how? The don't show up in start>setting>today>items however, they are visible in the registery (and enabled) and visible with memmaid.
Please let me know if there is an other solution than to hrad reset my device.
Thanks in advance
there are limits of how many today items you can have
forgot how many
but the today item list is limited to 13
if you remove some in the reg the ones you are missing will show up
in today items
Hi Rul,
The other thing to check in your registry is the value of the Reg_DWord called "Order" for each of your plug-ins. Occassionally my plugins will play hide and seek if I've installed a new one and its default order number clashes with any of the other plugins. They do however still show up in the today settings. I'll post my reg settings so you can check yours are ok and then double chekc that the dll's for each are where they are supposed to be.
Good luck - Mallow1
Oops, forgot to mention that for me I have the Device Lock disabled anyway (so just ref to the other reg settings) as I have it in the sys tray instread to save Today Screen space, thanks to an excellent cab writen by armstrom http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,27/id,17285/#17285 which uses the underlying Device Lock but via an exe which you can then assign to the sys tray using any of the tray launcher programs out there.
Regards - Mallow1
PS I swapped the icon out to be the same as Device Lock (armstrom's exe uses a different one if you happen to go down this route).
Thanks for you reply's.
With the messaging and device lock items I have 13 today items. (now 11 since these two don't show up anymore).
I have checked the Reg_DWord called "Order" and there are no clashes...
Any other solution?
Thanks for the device lock thingy in the sys tray, very useful.
What have you done differently since the last time you could see your missing items? Loaded anything else? Reflashed etc? It may help us track down what has gone wrong if Rudegar's suggestion didn't work and you have no clashes when you checked my suggestion.
Of all your 13 items do you run/ wish to run all of them or are some disabled (and unlikely to be used again). If some are redundnat, did you try Rudegar's suggestion of removing them from the registry?
On a side note, and without wishing to get side tracked or complicate your issue have you tried "MoreTodays" to see if that helps at all if all your 13 items are "must haves" but you are only seeing 11. It allows you to have multiple Today Screens each showing different plug ins. Depending upon how it works it may allow for >11 (or >=13) whatever the formal limit is, plugins to operate. See http://www.jgui.net/moretodays/index.html
Regards - Mallow1
Some of the today Items are disabled, in fact 5 of the 13. So I deleted a couple of them. Still not showing ion my todayscreen.
Well, as far as I know I have installed some programs, don't know exactly which I have installed, so that's not really helping.
I tried the program you've suggested and I can select messaging and device lock. But they still don't show up on my todayscreen.
I think I will have to learn to live with it, which is not that hard though, or I will have to hard reset my device.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
After you deleted some from your registry did you try a simple soft reset (rather than having to resort to the horror of a hard one)?
yep, did that after every change I've made. No results though.
Sounds basic but have you checked that the dll files concerned are still present. If they are present it may be that a path is wrong in the registry (try adding an explicit path/double checking path matches location), else we can resort to simply replacing them just in case they have been corrupted.
On that last point did you try the Device Lock exe I highlighted. If that works it means that the underlying device lock dll works too (as the exe uses it rather than emulates it) and it is therefore a Today Screen issue we are facing not a corrupted dll.
Now that you removed your unwanted dll refs from the registry, how many Today Items are there left there? I have at the back of my mind that there is also an upper limit to the number of resources WM can handle at any one time (think I recall this causing problems with Wisbar not being able to skin a few things simply because too much was already loaded and the required dll file scould therfore not be used).... but we can save broadening the issues until we've eliminated the simpler more direct ones.
Regards - Mallow1
PS FYI I have 9 Today items in my registry and 7 that are enabled. If you delete your unused 5 items out of 13 that would at least bring you down to within the same range loaded in my registry and we could eliminate the "number in registry" from the list of possible issues.
Ooh, another quick one to try (I use it when I have items checked in the Today settings that have failled to show in the Today Screen), is try running this little app which simply refreshesd the Today Screen. See if your missing items appear afterwards.

Hi, i love your today screen! Tidy but functional! Could you please tell me what apps/plugins etc you've got going on there?
Hi fuel925,
Thanks. There's something like 30-40 packages making up the entire screen and functionality. Rather than clutter this thread with an off topic reply I'll see what I can knock up and post in a separate thread to give you an insight and post a link here afterwards.
Regards - Mallow1
Hi fuel925,

Hi. Mallow1
I've tried everything, nothing is working. I rest my case. Thanks for your help anyway.
regards,
Rul
Hi Rul,
Sorry to hear that. I've heard that theAtom has had a chequered start. Sounds like hard reset time (and I did hear somewhere that since so many of the early Atoms were having problems that an updated ROM had been relased quite quickly post launch). If yours was an early one you may find searching or checking for the updated ROm and reflashing helps (I want to say I think I saw this with respect to Aussie Atoms but can't swerar to it).
Anyway. Good luck - Mallow1
When I got my Atom I imediately put the "leaked" ROM on it. So it is not the case of an old ROM or something.
I just noticed that it is not showing the smartdailing plugin from the Treo 700w I just installed on it. So I guess there is something seriously wrong with the today plugins.

Removing the system tray WM5 & WM6!!

ah ha amen!
I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

that did the trick for me - thanks
Thanks, just joined today and i am now very happy with the fact this hack worked for me
Joined the forum chasing icons and now i think i wont be able to ever leave
Thanks again.....
No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.

About hard reset and Interface programs

Hi, I'm pretty much a noob to this forum as you can see from my number of posts.
Recently got a HTC Iolite and been reading the forums, there are some things that I wasn't able to find, so I thought I'd just ask about it here.
Programs affecting interface
Currently I have the following installed, QM2.8, M2DC, PHM reg editor, Touchflo of course, I'm planning to try out SPB Pocket Pack and SPB Mobile Shell.
Here comes the confusing part, what's the difference between each of these? Which programs are a complete overlap? I read somewhere that SPB Pocket Pack and MS can complement each other, but for TF and MS, it's either TF or MS and not both together. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
About Hard Reset
I recently had a service.exe error after a soft reset. But it only happened once, I'm wondering whether it might have been caused by the installation of M2DC. So, I'm thinking of doing a hard reset. However, I do have some concerns. I have PAPAGO X3 installed when I first bought my Iolite. Upon doing a hard reset, will it remove PAPAGO as well?
What about programs that I installed on my storage card? What happens to it upon a hard reset? I'm sure it will have to be reinstalled, but what about the space it occupies on the storage card? Do I need to remove them as well, in other words, uninstall them first then do a hard reset?
Having said all that, I'm not particularly too concerned about the services.exe issue, since it's only happened once.
Appreciate any advice I can get! Sorry if some of these questions have been addressed in the forums, perhaps someone could direct me to the respective places?
hardreset return your device to how it was the first time you ever started it up
any program you installed after this will be gon untill you reinstall them
hardreset will not of cause change any programs located on the sdcard
but if any of those programs require dll's to be placed on the main device
or require some reg keys to be placed in the registry
then they too will require a reinstall

Does that mean that if the programs do not require dll's to be placed on the main device, I will still be able to find it immediately after a hard reset?

Recent Programs List Empty on Two Refurb Fuzes

I keep having all kinds of problems on the Fuze. After going through three refurb Fuzes from AT&T in the last couple months, the last two of them have an empty programs list in the top of the start menu and no matter what programs you run and how many times you factory reset the things, the list still stays empty! Any ideas on what's happening?
PS- I'm using stock everything.
Do you have any sort of memory cleaner running in the background that is cleaning up the recent programs list? That's about all I can think of, unless there's a reg setting to not show recent programs. Have you installed advanced configuration, or some other tweaks program that may have set your fuze to not keep a recent programs list? I'm sure it's something simple like that.
Thanks for the reply-sadly this problem happens as soon as I've taken these phones out of the refurb'd box- I haven't installed any software, made any settings changes or anything like that. It's a really weird problem!
I'm running a 6.5 rom now, and haven't used 6.1 in a few months, but I was looking at the xml file for advanced configuration, and I believe there should be a 'Recent' folder in your \Windows directory (I could be totally wrong, I really don't know where the recent programs list gets stored). Is there one? Maybe try creating one and soft resetting, or something like that. It shouldn't be too hard to get this working. Also, with Total Commander or another registry editor, check and see if you have this:
HKLM\System\Explorer\Shell Folders\..... 'Recent' = \Windows\Recent
Dunno if this will help, but it might.
Works Now!
After checking that registry entry and creating that folder which did not exist previously and then soft-resetting it appears that the list works now! Thanks.
One last question
I was also going to ask- is there such thing as the 5.11.502.2 WWE Fuze rom or the 1.14.25.35 radio for Fuze?
First of all, that was blind friggin' luck, lol! I can't believe that worked. My batting average may be above the mendoza line now.
I'm pretty sure that's the new att rom update. Find it here or get it from htc. That's definitely the new radio.
That was awesome if that was just a guess! Wow!
But thanks, I was just making sure about that radio.

Uninstaller/uninstall???

Hi Everyone,
I have recently installed the .cab version 1.2.4 of Smart Protect to my HTC Touch HD, however when I came to uninstall it, which I tried by entering the password "123456" to the programs built in uninstaller, this was unsucessful as it gave me an error message.
So I went to settings, system, remove programs and tried from there (it didn't ask for a password). This cleared the application from the programs menu, although now when I start the phone it gives me an error securityservice.exe cannot start... or something along those lines.
Basically I'm just asking for an uninstaller/instructions to manually uninstall, here is a list of some of the processes that I believe this program might be using: rapiclnt, SmsCommand.exe, NK.exe BTW I dont know for sure but I've never seen these processes running before so I suspect that the program has not completely uninstalled. Also there are still some reg keys (which I dont want to remove without someone with more experience has told me its safe to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, ControlPanel, Security, SSecure.
Thanks in advance,
Grant.
P.S. I've also posted on the devolopers tread but i haven't had a reply so i guess that the thread is dead.
\windows\startup
and delete the shortcut to it
Thanks for the advice Should I delete the reg key that I talked about in my first post? Because it stores all of the Smart Protect settings, e.g partner number, app password(encrypted), partner name ect...
Again thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated.
Grant.
