Started reading the forums a few days ago, already planning on getting a gtab for x-mas. So got one at Sears today and went home confident I would know what I am doing. Well I was wrong !!
First mistake: My assumption that this will be as easy as my SGS with clockworkmod. For one, there are apparently CWM versions floating around that are known to cause issues - hence that is the one I ended up with. It installed the CMW fine and went into recovery just like I am used to. Tried to apply the ZPAD 2.2 rom and as soon as I rebooted got the 'Magic Value Mismatch' error at the top of the screen.
Mistake two: trying to fix it by finding the correct CWM called .8 which seemed to make things worse. I got a screen now right after the power and Vol + key that shows alternating black and white strips.
I had this thing only for 3 hours and I already managed to get way past my expertise on fixing this.
What can I do to get the tab to load a recovery image so I can boot?
On the internal SD card there is the folder called 'recovery' with the command file that points to the update.zip on the external sd card. I imagine that is correct. However it did not matter what ZIP file I place on the SD card. For example I renamed all the exising rom's one by one to update.zip to see if one of them would take and no luck.
I am sure someone with more experience can point me to how to get back to normal. I would appreciate some help.
Try This
I had a similar issue with mine about 30 min after I got it. Use your external SD and but the vanilla tnt update.zip and the recovery folder on it. Edit the command file in the recovery folder to say sdcard2 instead of sdcard. This worked for me , Good luck
Thaks for the info.
I created the recovery folder with the command file this time on the external SD card (preped this on the PC) and made sure the vanilla update.zip was on the root of the SD card.
I got a new error about a kernal having a critical error, but I was so frustrated that I did not write it all down.
Then I tried another rom (gtab lite 2.2) and I get the Magic Value Mismatch error again.
It seems like it does not even attempt going into recovery now, because it does not matter if I press the VOL+ and PWR key together. It has the same effect as if I press PWR alone.
I really don't want to give up just yet. If anyone else has any suggestions I am willing to try, plus this experience might help others in a similar situation down the road to recover instead of having to return the device.
I saw a post about some PC based update, but I also seen comments that that could make things even worse. Any ideas?
In the mean time I followed the NVFlash instructions and there is some success and also some loss.
The success is that I no longer get the "magic value mismatch" error. The loss is that my tablet still does not boot and now I have a Nvidia boot screen which will most likely raise a flag with Sears when I return it for an exchange.
I don't want to give up yet, but I really could use some pointers on what else to try.
Here are the instructions I followed for the NVF...

All I get is the Nvidia logo. The tab has been on for more than 10 min and there is no change.

My nvflash won't help you, at this point. You want bekit's nvflash recovery -- http://forum.tegratab.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8 I know you used mine because you have the Nvidia logo.
The difference between bekit's recovery and mine is that bekit's flashes EVERYTHING, at a low level. Mine isn't that extensive. You definitely want to try Bekit's flash before throwing in the towel.
As for SEARS, I wouldn't worry about it - they probably won't even notice. When I returned my first one, they didn't even open the box. Seriously.

The link you provided (I already went there before) had a link inside to download the necessary fiels but all it did is link to the main forum page. I never was able to find the correct files until this morning I believe. I found another post on these forums that had 'dropbox' links to several files that I downloaded.
So now I ended up with 1) the Tegra MSI installation file 2) the g tab image files and 3) the windows script files with the batch file. I will attempt these tonight and report back.
We are in the middle of moving - finally home owners again at last ;-). I have no internet connection at my new house yet however my SGS and tethering are my friend right now, so I can post and download at a lower rate.
Thaks for the help!!
I wonder what came of this! A feedback would be nice.
Thanks!
i would guess roebeet's suggestion worked, otherwise anosis would've been back on here.

Thank You!
I don't know about the other guy, but I borked the Tab tonight, and these instructions worked flawlessly. The links to the apps were stale, but the IRC channel pointed me in the right direction.
Now back to to the Tablet to find out what I need to put back on it.
Thanks again!
can you tell me where to find those links? I screwed mine up too.

This thread was awesome! Pulled my ace out of the fire when i accidentally wiped out CWM when trying to format to install a new VeganTab. You guys rock!
Hooray!
Sorry to bump an old thread guys, but I just wanted to chime in and say this also worked for me. Someone should add this to the stickied threads...

Hi,
I am just wondering if you can provide a more detail instruction on how this can be fixed? I am a new android user, I am not very knowledgeable. If you can provide some more information, that would be greatly appreciated!
I beleive what you are looking for is in the link posted.

mismatch is good
I finally did the nuclear option to get my tablet back. I was in the dummies site when panicking as well, read mismatch was to be a welcome...
ive been working on rooting my inspire via bubbys method and have run into several snags...
first off, im using a mac with parallels with windows vista installed.
I installed htc sync then uninstalled it, left the drivers there.
when i ran bubby's one click process and it got to the point of looking for the pd98img.zip this is where i hit a snag. Parallels pops up asking if i want to use it for the current VM session. i hit yes but it couldnt find the phone, had to unplug and plug back in twice.
the second problem was that when i finally got the pd98img.zip process to work the update failed...
the next issue was the rage thing. i got it to go through but terminal emulator will not run a 2nd time for me. it did force close, but wont open. just white screen and phone is sluggish. if i restart the phone, the cursor is still a $ not a #. not sure where i should go from here.
update: trying again after reading faq's that the issue may be the goldcard being wrong format. i formatted sd card on the phone itself and now running process over. ill make a brick outa this yet!
still getting model id incorrect! update fail! when doing pd98img.zip.
i get through the rage commands in terminal again and it will not run the 2nd time.
At this point i had to do some updates on windows, and now it wont even go through the process of making the goldcard through the utility included with bubby's, where as i had no issue prior to 170 updates windows had to make (i hate windows) so now im about to totally give up. ive tried two different sd cards, formatted them through the phone, because windows wont format them (i get an error with that too) ugh!
will someone PLEASE help me out?
Try a reboot.
Did you do a quick format or a full format of the SD card?
i did the format through the phone, dismount then format. the windows utility doesnt run, it fails immediately. no clue why.
i will try and reboot it and go from there again. otherwise i may try and download some aftermarket 3rd party formatting application to do it. ugh!
update: rebooting phone and windows changed nothing. i still see htc drivers etc. pc sees the phone if i switch it to disk drive. if i try and run bubbys format utility it tells me to check my drivers. they are there and were working prior to installing a ton of windows updates earlier this morning.
formatting sd card through dos right now...
*cross fingers*
i just want to rant for a sec while this is formatting.
ive been trying to root this thing for like 3 days now.
every single step has fought me tooth and nail, i dont know why, thats just how things go for me sometimes. but im going to do this. Im going to win and the phone may as well give in... my fuze was so easy lol
/rant off
thanks for the help guys, i get nervous when i get half way through a process and get an error message.
windows is not seeing the phone when in charge mode. htc drivers are still installed. i have uninstalled and reinstalled once already.
im getting this when i check out the driver for the htc phone:
androidusb.sys
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

I tried posting in his thread and was getting nothing. Ill try the hack kit again though. It would be awesome if I could find a chatroom full of you guys.
I don't have internet atm when I get home ill run this. Finally got the .sh hack file to.run, had to set it to open in terminal instead of text editor.
im trying to get to the following folder through astro file manager:
sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:82d1
but i have nothing like this. i can get to mmc1 but only see device, power, subsystem, and an event file. if i click subsystem folder i can click mmc1 again. i repeat this 10-15 times so it looks like:
sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1/subsystem/mmc1 then at the end i get 3 files mmc0, mmc1, mmc2. but never anything like "mmc1:82d1" it is this way on both sd cards even after i format them through the phone like the instructions said.
update: was able to go to mmc2 and find the file right away, hope its okay...
well its doing something now.... info[ruu]wp,userdata,xx stuff.
hope thats good.
k that done, sound back on now. booting up...
I had a bunch of trouble with mine too, cause i'm a tard. Let us know what happens.
okay everything seems to be fine now. signal, even has the H.
to flash a custom rom do i just go to clockwork and do flashwork recovery then install from sd card?

Make sure you are happy with your downloads speeds first....depending on what radio you are using...if you are still on the downgraded radio you might want to update that.
Then if you go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353
There is a video and a picture tutorial on how to flash roms...just make sure you go into rom manger and flash clockworkmod recorvery first....
Nevermind. Ok to delete thread.

Can someone please post the stock build prop file for the TF300. I would appreciate it. Thank you
I really messed up and need someone to help me out here. After rooting my 300 I was stupidly messing around with the build prop trying to get some apps to show up in the market. I was able to do this successfully before, but messed up royally this time. It wont boot now and just goes to a lit up blank screen. So what I need is for someone to upload the stock build.prop, and then help me figure out how to push it into the system folder. I am able to get my serial # to show up in adb, but it doesnt always stay. It seems to disconnect, and then I have to hold the power button and wait for it to force reboot. And then Im able to get adb again. I know this was stupid, and expect some flaming and thats fine. But I am hoping someone will help me unbrick my 300. If theres no way to get the correct build prop into the system folder than anyway to get it working again. Thanks in advance for any help.
Update: I have a working build.prop but am unable to push it into the the tablets system folder. I get error after error trying every method I can read of. I am able to get my serial # via adb so I guess thats something.

Don't feel to dumb, I also did the exact same thing. I was unable to find a way to recover from my mistake, although I was not able to get adb to work at all. I would suggest trying to put the newest firmware version on an SD card and booting into recovery. Did not work for me but I have heard of rumors of it working for other people? Give that a shot and let me know if you have any luck. Maybe if you can get adb to stick long enough you can use the same method that people are using for downgrading? You would need adb to stick for a solid 5 minutes. Also could give this a try...if you haven't already. http://www.modaco.com/topic/328943-quick-guide-to-modifying-buildprop-with-adb/

I am able to get into the 3 different modes by holding power and volume down. One of them is called rck, and it goes to an android laying on his back with a red exclamation point.
PS: Doesnt the downgrade file have to be on internal storage for this to work? Or will it work on the external sd card? Thank you
Hello, all. I hope someone can help me with my SGH-T959W. Right now I'm at the point where the phone has CWM installed, but will only boot into recovery no matter what I do. I've followed the N00b guide to Flashing/Fixing the SGS4G, but clearly I'm missing something.
I tried to follow the Windows-based procedure for the SGH-T959W, but was unable to get version 1.40 to execute, and was unable to locate version 1.31.
So, given that the SGH-T959W and SGH-T959V are the same phone except for the bootloader, I tried the Java-based Stock KJ-6 + Root. The first time I tried it, the upload failed after the PIT, and the phone was no longer able to boot into anything other than download mode. I eventually managed to get it to the point where it tried to flash the modem, but I was never able to get the modem to flash successfully. I tried both under Windows and Linux, using two different PCs and every USB cable I could find, since I know those tend to be dodgy. Still, I've never gotten past flashing the modem, though sometimes it's done worse.
But at this point, I had a phone that would dutifully boot into CWM, so I could change strategy anyway. So I grabbed the unofficial Cyanogenmod 10.1, copied it to the root of the SD card, and tried to load that via CWM. It failed the hardware check.
That's problem #1. Is it possible to modify Cyanogenmod to check for the 959W instead of only the 959V?
Now, problem #2. I decided to give Slim ICS a whirl, since it's light on requirements and a 512MB/1GHz device would probably appreciate a lighter load. The two packages claim to install, but the progress bar never reaches 100%, and when I try to boot the phone, it just boots into CWM. It's a newer version of CWM now, and the startup logo is different, so something worked, but clearly not everything.
When installing, I did mount UMMU, factory reset, wipe the cache and the Davlik cache, mount UMMU, install, then fix perms. But I still get that loop back to CWM.
So something critical didn’t take, however many times I tried (I've lost count, but I think I'm going on 10), and I don't know the architecture well enough to know where to start looking. I'm pretty comfortable with other operating systems, but this is only the second Android device I've tried to customize.
I suspect I can’t solve any other problem until I solve problem #2, regardless of which distro I end up wanting to run.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but I figured the more questions I answered up front, the better the chances of fixing this would be.
Thanks for any help you're willing to offer a n00b.

Nope, not a CWM issue. Ever since TeamAcid and I started on CM9 (and I believe the last few CM7 builds) added support for T959W. Almost everyone (thankfully! ) has kanged those device trees and also support T959W. I'm sure other T959W users will chime in to tell you that 97% of all roms here work on T959W. (GB and forward)

Crazy mount setups shouldn't matter anymore. That was an oldschool Froyo/Early GB thing. Almost all new CWM install scripts do the right thing now.

@TwitchyEye you're right That is the heimdall oneclick that should be used.
@dfarquhar I think using the heimdall oneclick that @getochkn made should be the right path for you. Make sure you use the right version of heimdall. Make sure you completely remove the old version (software and drivers), use zdiag to make absolutely sure!
If all else fails, post here again! (maybe with logs )
Thanks everyone. I grabbed v 1.3.1, so I'm getting ready to try it now.
If anything goes wrong, I'll look into where the logs are stored and how to retrieve them, and I'll be back. Assuming I can't use the logs to figure it out on my own of course.

Got it working! Heimdall 1.3.1 was the key. I then turned around and flashed Slim ICS since I had it on the SD card already, and it worked. I'm debating whether to move on to Slim Bean, but maybe I need to leave well enough alone for a few days now that I have a working phone.
Thanks again,

Picked up an AT&T Radiant Core for cheap at a store around me. I don't intend to use it with AT&T, it was just such a low price that I figured I'd get it and see if I can break into it just for fun. It's an MTK6739 chipset phone, so in theory it should be easy to pull partitions from this thing with something like SPFT (or Miracle Box, if you paid for it) and do a dirty port of TWRP to get root privileges on it. But this is harder than it seems.
I need an auth file to do anything with SPFT. Apparently this has to do with some kind of "secure boot" mechanism that MediaTeks sometimes have now. There's no stock firmware for this device online from what I can find, nor for the generic version of the device, the Tinno U304AA (AT&T just rebranded it). If I had a stock firmware image, maybe I could risk wiping the partitions and reflashing the stock firmware to get rid of the secure boot stuff.
I saw a guide for how to access the bootloader on the Tinno U304AA generic version, but on the AT&T version of the phone there's no option in the boot select menu (Vol. UP + Power) to get to the bootloader to run a fastboot oem unlock. All the AT&T version has is recovery and normal boot. I'm not sure what I can do to maybe reset this to get the other options. Maybe if I had the stock firmware for the generic version of the phone I could overwrite it and get access to those other options.
Either way, just posting this up for anyone else that got one of these and wants to collaborate/contribute. Maybe with enough collective brainpower we can make something happen.
UPDATE: found a stock system image dump, thank you to @lopestom for directing me to this. This guy's been the MediaTek king for as long as I can remember.
It appears to be a dtbo and system partition dump. It also has the vendor partition and a (partial?) boot image dump. Not sure if things like the full boot and recovery images are stored somewhere in here, I didn't look too deeply into it yet. I have no idea how whoever this is managed to pull these partitions... they either got root access somehow, or they found a proper Download Agent and Auth file to pull it all. Either one of these would be awesome. I reached out to the user to ask them how they did it, we will see what they say if they want to share how they did it.

OMG! So excited to see this here! My Mom gave my nephew this phone and niece has one. So I've been trying my best to get the thing to at least be a decent phone! I installed a launcher on it, changed the icons and wallpaper and made it look good at least. It will be nice to have someone to talk to about this. The thing has been beyond frustrating! First off though how did you get the computer to recognize it? I can't get Windows or Linux to recognize it and couldn't find any drivers. If you managed that much you got further than I did. I haven't tried with my nieces though. It might just be his phone. She's 13 so it took awhile to pry it from her long enough to find out what kind it was, but I'm willing to try to get it from her once again if the phone can be improved.

Linux should just work, plug in the thing and the "drivers" if you will should be there already. Check the phone's settings for USB Debugging in the Developer Options if there's further trouble.
Don't get me wrong too, this phone is, was, and will always be a piece of junk. There's no getting around a screen this bad and 1GB of RAM. I'm actively trying to find a Download Agent and Auth File combo to get this thing to work with SPFT so I can try to port a custom recovery to get us Magisk root permissions at least. Root will make the phone slightly better, but it will still be junk. Unless we can get kernel source for it as well to mess with things like clock speeds and CPU governors (which LEGALLY we are supposed to be guaranteed, but good luck convincing a Chinese company to give it to you) everything we do, if we CAN do anything, will be like deodorant on a turd. It'll smell a little better, but it's still a turd.

Right, I'm considering giving him my current phone when I get a new one. It doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to unlock and root it so I want a phone I can. Mainly for space personally. He's young so he doesn't need it rooted, but I'm thinking if I can root it then I might be able to use it to root my phone. Speaking of rooting I think I found a way to root this phone. It took me a couple days to get the phone since he said he couldn't find it, but I have it now. It just needs to charge, but the battery sucks so it takes forever. I did find out that it does have a decent recovery. I had booted it into recovery and then I was messing around with the keys after the little passed out green guy popped up and suddenly it loaded stock recovery. It had an option to mount the system and flash with adb and everything. The only problem is I kept booting it by messing with keys. So I honestly don't know which ones worked. I kept booting into it last night by messing with them, but now I can't seem to get it to boot into the right recovery now that I'm trying to figure out the right key combination. I will figure it out though (eventually) and let you know what you have to click, but if you get the chance just mess with it and hopefully you'll find it like I did.
Also I was looking up the phones variants and downloaded a couple stock roms that I felt had all the right specs I'm going to try to flash one if I can get it plugged in. I downloaded custom twrp image's for them as well, and even found one twrp that I was able to download in the app. If you used it then you know that it takes you to a download page if you are downloading the wrong twrp.img. So the fact it let me download it in the app meant it tricked twrp into thinking it was that phone. So I'm going to try that stock rom first. Maybe we'll be able to change it to another model. It really needs something flashed, because it's a mess. I thought he messed it up, but after reading what you said maybe it's just the phone. He's young so it doesn't matter as much to him, but I feel bad for my niece. I really need to look into at least getting her another phone. I'm going to work on it later today and see what I can do. First I got to get it to work on the computer, but I may be able to root it without the computer. I'll keep you updated with my progress.
any luck with this?
Yeh, is there a status update?
Sorry, I got a concussion and haven't been able to do much, but really I'm stuck because I can't get it to connect to the computer at all. Not in Windows or Linux. I think he's messed it up beyond repair at this point. The offline root gave me an error around the mounting of the system, but that can be done if you can get the recovery to show up. It's one of the options. I was trying this method. HERE see if you can get it plugged in and to work. Also, Kingoroot gets to 90% on the apk alone. So the computer app might do the trick. Then you can switch it to su. Really a rooted phone can get a lot done with apps like flashify and flashfire that we can't do right now. If you can get even a temp root let me know and I'll tell you what I found out about the apps to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, Flash Magisk, then flash ROMs. If you want to try the variant route I was trying then just do a search on google. Some sound just as bad, but other similar phones seem better. You can pick which one you want to try. The phone I have got to a point that it kept deleting applications and stuff on the phone and has trouble with the sd card. So I don't have the stuff I had saved on it anymore. I'm giving him my current phone when I get a new one. It's too messed up to salvage. I hope you have more luck.

I need to unlock my phone U304AA
Ok boys and girls, in case anyone is still wondering here is how to root this sucker.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1--Ul1ae73zcejNuJ1a7ftq5sTo2VP8Ya/view?usp=drivesdk
Comes with two files. Mtksu amd magisk be sure to use the magisk version included in the zip. Install mtksu then wmagisk, open mtksu and install the top magisk option. Reboot then open magisk hit install when it asks. Now open mtksu scroll to the bottom and hit activate and reboot again. Should be good too go at this point. Oh yeah be sure to click apply at boot in mtksu. Not sure if this had been posted before or not. Now, to find a way to unlock bootloader and install twrp.
Thank you, I tried Mtksu on mine and it didn't work, but it might've been the phone. I don't have one of these anymore, but I hope you all the best of luck. For the bootloader and Twrp try Flashfire or flashify.
MTK bypass method released by some smart dudes out there. I will test if we can use SPFT on this phone now. Stay tuned. This could mean root & recovery in a matter of minutes.
EDIT: It ALMOST works. Technically it bypassed the auth file as advertised. The only thing left now is finding a compatible preloader/scatter file to use.
Used a modified Moto E6 Play scatter file to pull images from the device. Tried flashing over stuff and got an error. Long story short my U304AA is now permanently bricked, so I'm tapping out of this project here
I do have recovery and boot images that (supposedly) work if anyone else wants to try and take over Keep in mind these were pulled with a scatter file from a DIFFERENT phone that's of the same chipset, so not everything is guaranteed to work. For example, the preloader was pulled with the specified parameters but I do NOT know if it's functional
Because I'm tapping out, and because nobody else seems to have anything on this, I'm uploading everything I can. Some pulls are too big to upload and some just won't work for some reason, but use whatever you'd like for anything you can. Hope I did something helpful
I have searched in Google Search and the tutorials forum but not found a tutorial

Well AT&T is giving away lots of Radiant Core devices because of their 3G shutdown: https://www.xda-developers.com/att-3g-shutdown-free-phone/
My wife and I just got one, so now I have two of these but I'm not sure I trust AT&T enough to use the "free" phone that they sent.
It would be great if someone can pickup this project, especially since so many phones are now flooding the market.
I just got 3 of these "free" from AT&T. In fact I don't really need them, I just happen to have phones with an IMEI number that AT&T cannot decipher, so they sent me new phones just in case I can't use 4G.
Anyway, I'm trying to use mine as spare Google assistants scattered around the house, but because they run that crappy Android Go, the Go version of Assistant won't listen to me until I long-press the home button. I would also like to use them when I travel as a spare.
These things are essentially throw-away, so I'm OK to risk bricking one of them.
What I really want to do is install a real version of Android on here, has anyone managed to crack this yet?
I personally have been writing and reading using this tool https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient, which is much simpler than the others
Its a little rough around the edges, but it certainly works
My final problem is disabling secure boot (I already have a boot.img patched with magisk)
It appears that fastboot is simply not a mode for booting on this model, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable AVB by hand with just partition images

if it's possible to downgrade the firmware to before the october 2019 patch, it might be possible to mtk-su the device: https://www.att.com/device-support/article/wireless/KM1376142/ATT/ATTU304AA
might be another alternative to trying to disable avb on a locked bootloader

Just got mine from this. I'd like to install something like NixOS mobile, but I've never used an android phone before. Will that be possible on this phone? If so, is there a good guide for newbs like myself?
