If you still have the app directory from your sd card somewhere then yes, you just have to copy them to /data/app and they'll all show up again.

maybe i worded my first post wrong. what i was sayin is that i am using 1 of haykuro's builds now and wanted to install apps because the market has beee blocked by google for magic users.

ahh so you don't have your apps backed up. Well good news is the market isn't block for magic users, it's just going REALLY slow for anyone with cupcake right now(LucidREM said the same thing happened with the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 so they're probably upgrading the market). If you leave it long enough(upwards of 9 hours) it'll eventually install your apps

Okay I have 5.0.1gr3 no app2sd. I have like 75 .apk's backed up on my sd and have no way to get to them to install. I do not use adb, as I have no computer, just the g1. Is there a
sudo apt-get sd/appmanager/astro.apk

I would, but nothing downloads from the market, or I would just download the apps I need from the market.

if you have the terminal emulator, or find somewhere to download it from online, you just copy the .apk's from your sdcard into /data/app and then they're installed, I usually do a restart afterwards cause sometimes they don't all show up right away

For MAC users. Multiple-App installing script

So I was tired of having to install my apps one by one after a wipe or x problem. So with a lot of help from an apple scripting forum, I made this droplet app.
To use it you must have at least adb installed. Connect your phone to your mac via usb. Put all the apps you want installed into a folder. I would avoid naming the folder "untitled folder". I don't know why, I just had a problem when I tried it once. So after all of the apps are in the folder, drag the folder onto this application. All you need to do is wait, the applications will install and you are done.
I am keeping this application in my /android/tools/ folder, just so that I don't lose it.
Feel free to edit the script in any way. Enjoy.

yaaaayyy! great work my friend
great job on this!
is this the same as using adb?
adb push *.apk /data/app/
I would like to have a way to fresh install all the apk after wipe
but i think apk installed via adb would not be automatically tracked for new version by market, right?

this is using the adb install command not push. But I don't know the difference between the two. I have such a small understanding of this. I don't believe that the applications are tracked by the market with this, but I would love to know how it could be done.
Does anyone know if there is a way to install them and have them be tracked?
Solid contribution. Really like what you've done. I don't need it, but I'm sure a lot of people without a full linux distro will enjoy it.
Anything for the mac side of things has got to be good. Mucho props for this.
So I still know nothing about installing the apps so they are recognized by the market. However i did remember that aTrackDog does just that. So as long as most of the programs you install fresh on your device are relatively new, then aTrackDog should be able to help.
I do realize that updating an app(uninstall and reinstalling) takes just as long as the initial install. but at least it would be fewer at a time right?
i noticed that if you restart the phone mid way through installation,
the download would resume after reboot.
so I was thinking if I could inject information into the vending app
that way I can hopefully trick market into downloading the latest app for me
and update tracking would work
I messed around with assets.db->assets10 a bit
I did found the package name and status there, tried adding a new record but the market app is not picking it up
my guess: we might need some corresponding data on google mothership for that to work
i do not like aTrackDog, i prefer native market tracking instead
maybe i can try backing up the whole data folder for the market app next time i wipe
where would the market app save the data once you download it? would we be able to replicate that process? like sending the data from each app we install to the market app? because that would be unbelievable!

Is it poss. to set up Market to recognise non-market apps for updating purposes?

i recently restored a lot of apps from the SD (i use apps2sd) and i realise that the Market won't normally recognise these as they weren't installed through the Market.
the problem is now i don't automatically get a prompt to update them.
is there a way i can force the Market to recognise these apps?
i'd also like to know if this is possible.
I think paid version of Titanium Backup can do that..
If they're free, you can uninstall and redownload them from the market. If they're paid, you should always be able to redownload them [for free] from the Downloads tab.
Slow and painful, but it works. (The reason there's no quicker way is probably to prevent pirates.)
Use aTrackDog... It worked for me...

And where did he say such thing? He said that if you install apk through ASTRO, adb install, etc., then application will be not registered in Market, so there will be no update notifications for it.

The free version does as well. Alternatively, you can take a direct look at the data in question. I think the relevant records are in the assets10 table inside /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/assets.db

[Q] Lost Android Market!!

I have a Motorola Photon, and I had tried to get the old Market backet back with a process I found in the forum. It didn't work, and somewhere along the line I lost the Market all together. I tried wiping the phone back to factory and the Market app did not come back. I tried to just install a version from 4Shared, but still doesn't work with any version I install. It says that "com.android.vending has quit unexpectedly" and then it FC's. It only seems to do this when I go to download an app. I can browse and search fine with no problems, just no downloading!! I admit I'm a noob, and probably messed with something I shouldn't, but I figured this would be a nondestructive thing to learn on. Man was I wrong!! This sucks...please help me!!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Yes...I was rooted but no custom rom. I don't know how to do that yet. This is going to sound stupid, but what exactly is a custom rom? After I wiped to factory condition I tried to install a vending.apk from 4shared and that still gives me same error. I will uninstall again and try a market.apk now. Is that the same as vending.apk?
A factory reset will only delete user data, it won't put back something that has been removed. You need to get the vending apk for the version you want and instead of installing it normally put it in /system/app. You can do so using Root Explorer or another root level file explorer. If you don't have one installed, I can post the apk of a free one for you. Mount system as r/w and copy/paste the apk into /system/app, then set permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot. You should have your market back up & running.

That's what I originally tried to do and didn't work, but I will try it again...If you could post an apk of the market you know is good that would be great. Can u post an apk of a root explorer also? I havent checked 4shared yet. Is there another free download service other than 4shared? Thanks for your help!!
Just download Market and install it. If it FC then check the permissions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231290
(It's the new market btw. I know you don't want it, but you don't really have a choice at the moment)
Ok so this is weird!! I left the Market that wasn't working installed by mistake. I installed the OTA update that Motorola did, and then re-rooted my phone again. Now the Market is working for the most part!!! Only thing is...it FC's every time iot installs an app. It downloads and installs, but right after it installs it FC's!! It doesn't always close all the way...sometimes just goes to Market home screen. All the functionality seems to be working though, so I can deal with that.
Does anybody know why after the OTA update I can only get EDGE instead of 3G on a Rogers SIM card?
Did you clear Google Services Framework data and Market data?

[Q] stop facebook updating

Hello everyone
I have a very simple question, but it is bugging me so much right now!!
I use Facebook on my phone all the time, and I love how it integrates into my phone, however, I hate the newest app that came with the new firmware.
Now, not being a total noob I found the version I liked, installed it, and things were grand, but then, the next time I went to use it, the app had updated itself =/ so I downgraded it again, thinking I had done something wrong, and guess what, uit updated itself again.
My question is, how can I stop it auto updating itself??
I have gone to the market and set it not to update, and it still does it.
Any help on this would be great

You pushed the app to /system/app/ right? well delete it from /system/ and install it in /data/. Apps on the /system/ partition are classed as "safe" by android market and the market will auto update them, apps on data partition are not and you have to confirm update yourself

The thing is, the app doesn't even show up in the "MY APPS" section of the market, so I don't get why it manages to update, unless when it goes online it just updates thru the app without asking.

I think I done it!!
I went into /system/app and found facebook.apk whic was V1.7.1
I then took the .apk file for the version I like best (1.2.4), renamed it to facebook.apk, deleted the first one (1.7.1) and popped the other one in its place.
I still get the thing on the news feed of facebook saying there is an update, but it hasnt just done it automaticly, and i use titanium backup to totally detatch it from the market!!
Thanx for ur help mate, fingers crossed this works from now on

[Q] Help w/ apps after new ROM

Hey guys not sure if this is the right spot but had a question.
I recently flashed cynogenMod 7.2 on my inspire (att) everything was succesfull and i really love the ROM. However, I have no apps now. I did do a search (including the ones that pop up upon creation of this thread.)
I also dont have the market place/google play. I saw a site that claimed you just download the .apk file and move it to the support/apps folder (at least this is what i found worked for some) If i try to install the apps (by going to the site, weather.com for example) it tells me the app is already installed.
I dont believe i backed them up using titanium or anything like that. I just flashed the new rom. (actually flashed a few to see what i liked) If i can just get the market place and install apps from there ill be square.
Again sorry if this is such a noob question. thanks for such an awesome forum!

You can just unzip a rom on computer and take apk out of it in system-app folder. If you have es file explorer use it to install or root explorer to place in right place.
Also if T's not called market if its updated its called play store so you might have it but looking in wrong place blood under p in app drawer.

so basically i can take the cynogen zip file, open it on my pc, put the .apk for the google play store, put it in the ROMS syste/apps folder, then replace this zip file for the one thats on my sd card? or will i need to reflash from the new zip file with the google play in it?
I guess you are looking for the Google Apps. They are called gapps. Look in the CM post where you downloaded the ROM. There is a link for gapps.
All CM threads have a link for google apps or Gapps usually in the first thread. Look there. Do a search on google for "Google Play Store 3.5.16 download". Not sure if it is the most recent but it should be close. Just install it like a normal app.
Dang-it, kimtyson beat me by 2.83 seconds. lol
found the correct gapp file but how do i install it?
note: i installed one from an apk file but it crashed everytime i ran it.

you have to flash the zip file (GAPPS) in CWM recovery...install zip file....don't unzip it...
alright guys, figured out how to install from the recovery page but its still not working, it all installs fine, but when i run it says 'server error.'
one is an older gapp build the other is the newest one, both did the same thing.

Use the file manager or other root explorer, find the file and keep press...when options prompt then press properties. You will get a large number (alphanumerical) just compare it with the one provided...
If not, use the adb commands...open a cmd session and go to where the file is (usually in the root of the sdcard) then type MD5sum "name of the file"

basically all i did was find a few roms to try out, flashed one, if i didnt like it i would flash the other. one hung up and wouldnt boot so i flashed cynogen back from a backed up installation.
from there ive tried just installing gapps of 2 different types from the option "install zip from sd card."

Also make sure that the GAPPS you are flashing is for the CM version you have flashed....don´t flash CM7.2 and GAPPS for ICS cause it won´t work...
got it figured out, somehow i found a link that listed a ton of builds for the gapps, but then i found 2 seperate links that were to individual builds, those were what i needed. thanks for your help guys!
