Hi!
Does anybody know from where I can download Google Maps? No, it did not come with the phone. And yes, I know that normally you get it from www.google.com/gmm - except that all I get from there is "Sorry, Google Maps does not work on your HTC TouchDual."
Do you guys get the same message?

To be honest I have never come across anyone who didn't have it installed as stock. Where did you get your TP from?
As for downloading it, you will need to search the forum and see if any one has extracted it from their TP as I assume it is a bespoke build for the software

no, it's a standard build. And there were problems with it on the diamond with it not shuttiong down the GPS properly and rinsing the battery in around 2.5 to 3 hours.
go to www.google.com/gmm using INTERNET EXPLORER and download the latest version!

Thanks! That worked. Didn't even occur to me to see if there is IE on this device

I'm not sure, but...
http://www.google.com/gmm/GoogleMaps.CAB
I just directly go to that URL with Opera Mobile (case sensitive!) and download the cab
Is the google maps install on the UK version the full version or still linked to the web?
GPS problem or Google maps problem
Hi!
With IE, I got presumably the latest version, which seems to be 2.2.0.19.
However, I can not lock into satellites at all.
Before that I had found one web-site that hosted an earler version that was very quick to find satellites - it just was missing lot of features like the favorites and was nagging all the time about updates.
So the question is, is this a problem with GM? Or the phone otherwise? Here are my settings:
Windows GPS settings:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (None), Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically: checked
In Google Maps, I've selected the option to get position through Windows (as opposed to manual setup).
Does anybody know any free program that I can use to check out the GPS functionality preferably in a way that would give some deeper access to functionality - like the traditional satellite view? Thanks in advance!
Forgot some details:
I've run the QuickGPS - hope that is not what is confusing the GPS now as I had just had a update before this latest version of GM?
Google Maps just sits there with "searching for GPS-satellites (0)..." and never advances the count from 0...
DO a search and you will find a thread "testing gps" where you will find a tool for "testing gps"!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420933
Read the other threads on gps performance!!!!!
YOur first lock on satilites can take upto 20mins, even though you have updated quickgps. You need to be stationary and preferably outside.

Thanks I'll try that tool.
However, I did have older GM installed previously and it found a lock in just a few minutes. Actually GM doesn't even wait 20 min before it shows you a screen that says that it can not get a fix.

I bought mine from Expansys.co.uk and mine came with it, although that was before the price drop so they may be differant units
you got the UK unit, not the EU one, possibly

Yes, 1.90.405.1 is the UK ROM.
Same problem with the set I bought in Singapore, no google map included, and thanks for the IE fix, weird why Opera can't do it though.
Cheers.

I just wanted to say, that my Touch Pro doesn't have GoogleMaps preinstalled
Hey,
Running a rooted RC8 on a UK G1, I love the browser multitouch so is there any way to add it to photos and maps?
Thanks

The photos has been brought up before. But I don't think anyone has done anything with it. It'll probably be easier to create an all new app. I dunno... I'm not a dev. Map on the other hand... is a good idea but I'm waiting for the telenav software on the 24th (or the equivilant) because it just doesn't work very well as an actual GPS navigation system.
Whats up guys
Just got my hands on a new touch pro, after having the titan and its a great upgrade!
However, neither sprint telenav or google maps want to get a gps fix out of the box. I can't find a settings option for GPS, only external GPS devices.
Whats going on? Is this a problem with the touch pro? Am I going to be forced to flash ROMs just to make navi work? Or should I go to the store and grab a new one?
Thanks guys
Joe
BTW: ROM v. 1.03.651.4
you tried updating the "quickgps" in PROGRAM? Mine too (xperia) wasnt getting any fix, till i update the QuickGps prog.
If this is missing, which i doubt, am sure you can get a cab in this forum. Install and update. Hopefully should work.
if still prob, get it changed

I have version 3.0.1.6 installed in my ROM. I would like to know if I was to update it to the latest version 4.1.0 do I install it in my Device Memory to override the old version. If this doesnt override the old version and I end up with 2 versions then would I be better off installing it on my Storage Device?
You should be able to upgrade your cooked version but I'm not 100% sure. See if you get upgrade warning.
Always install GPS apps to device.

If it's like iGo, it installs resources to SD but it still puts Program Files\IiGo\iGo.exe.
I'm not saying its impossible, just not a good idea.
For me voice search doesn't work as it just opens the dialer.
You would think they'd put a softkey on it instead of a hardware key....
Anybody got it to work yet?
Works for me!
Voive search works for me, Bruce. i press the talk button and just speak. Working just fine.

Hmmm interesting, it just opens my dialer.
Perhaps Keyboard controller is interfering.
Thanks for the heads up!

hi man!!
you´re only testing gps with google maps?
first thing that you should do its download from the MARKET the "GPS status.apk"
and then run it and wait for a GPS FIX.. later... post here your results for too see the problem
how many sats found?
how many time for to fix gps?
and some information that you see in the app.
remember to remember to leave the mobile in a flat and straight surface outdoors
see you soon
hey,
thanks for your help !
but i could "fix" it. I read somewhere that it need much much time the first time you use GPS and so i let him search a few minutes and hey...i've got a signal now
and after that first time its quite fast.
greetings
