Flashing WM6.5 ROM to Wizard from MiniSD card? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hi all,
I've been following this forum for a few years & have never had any problems with flashing until now.
But then I bought a new laptop last month & it runs Vista Basic! When I attempt to flash using WMDC, the ROM's VistaUpdate utility shuts down at 0%.
I did convert my XP Pro installation to a VM running under VirtualBox; but have been unable to successfully to make a valid ActiveSync connection to the Wizard under VirtualBox.
The ROM I'm using is XDA2'S WM6.5 (with CHome) {Build 21202}; from reading the forum, it appears that flashing from an SD card requires a ROM image from another phone.
Has anyone successfully flashed this ROM from an SD card? And does anyone know where this ROM image from another phone could be obtained?
Thanks for your help.
JGB

Somebody else has to dump the ROM to a card for you. I don't have a Wizard but maybe somebody else with that ROM can dump it for you.
How to do it is written in the service manual.

Recovery possibility
You should try recovering using ROM image on SD card.
I am new to this forum, but it should be possible to save a ROM image to SD card and then use this card to load the ROM of your device.
Search for other posts on the forum about how to reprogram the ROM from SD. Good luck!

Welcome to XDA-developers!
Your ROM version is fine, however you may wish to upgrade to the latest 1.13 ROM + 1.13 Radio + BigStorage (by the way, BigStorage is just a way in which you can extend your measly 7MB of Storage to 27MB). However you will need a USB cable for the above method: I highly recommend to invest in one anyway, as you will find installing many programs onto your JAM difficult without one.
I think it is possible to upgrade with just a SD/MMC card and a SD/MMC reader for your computer, however it is considerably more complicated and you will not be able to back up your existing ROM, as you will need your computer to command your JAM during the backup process. You will probably need to merge two upgrading methods in order to get a USB cable-free process, something that no one else has done. Sorry I don't quite have the time for that yet, but maybe someone else can come to your aid!
Is there a technical reason you can't use a USB cable by the way?
EDIT: I forgot this: the reason why you cannot upgrade by just dumping a ROM onto the SD card and letting the JAM upgrade from that is that the ROM must be modified with some special, device unique data from your JAM first before your JAM will accept it. The normal ROM upgrade programs do this via USB by retrieving the device data from your JAM and then applying it to the ROM they are about to send to it. While there is a way to manually get this required data, that too requires a USB cable (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=231410).

Please avoid cross-posting, especially since this is the wrong forum. I can't help you anyway - different models of PDA can have very different ways of doing things.

Hard SPL with linux

Hi
First time post, please be gentle.
I am trying to flash a new rom onto my tytn II but I do not have windows or activesync on my PC.
I have tried searching but have not found the answer I need
Can I flash Hard Spl with linux only
Please help
Thanks in advance
You're probably best installing VM Ware onto Linux and then getting a copy of Windows to run through VM Ware. I think the USB should still work through this.
Not been tested but this is the best I can offer.
thanks for your reply
I have tried this and still no joy, someone must have linux installed and upgraded there rom on thr tytnII, I really dont want to have to install windows just for activesync

There is a SD method, but don't know if can work to put HardSPL, because HardSPL needs to execute SSPL into the PDA before flashing the new SPL.
I have tested WinXP box inside Windows Vista to flash using VMWare, and works fine, so XP box inside Linux must work too...
Cheers.
Thanks for your super quick reply
Is there a way to run the rom upgrade without Hardspl installed at all.
or perhaps run the Hardspl from sd card and then upgrade it that way.
Sorry to ask so many questions

I don't know what is hardspl, but have you checked hermflasher ?
Maybe it will work with some minor changes:

Yes, you can use the SD method with the ROM matching your CID (inside your SPL). This allows you to put a ROM from the manufacturer/oem of your Kaiser.
You sould not install any ROM before having HardSPL...
Search the SD method on the Wiki. With the Sd method you only copy the NBH file into SD and go to bootloader...
Cheers.
Thanks for your comments, very helpfull indeed I will look into both of the methods described and report back on my progress
I've used VMWare without a problem. Make sure you set up your fstab file to allow quickswapping USB in VMWare or else you have to constantly suspend and start windows just to get it to recognize the USB after it disconnects.
Hi
Does anyone have a copy of SSPL-KAIS.exe that they got attach or PM me. thanks.
After digging a little deeper this may work although it has been removed from the main site
**found it dont worry

Backup-ing internal ROM of TyTN II under Windows VISTA problem please HELP

Does anyone known if exist any program for Back up -ing internal ROM of TyTN II witch would work on Windows VISTA ?
Procedure explayned on this forum is based on the 16-bit programs witch will only work thru Windows XP not on Windows VISTA because she don't suport 16-bit base programs.
Does exist only one Windows based program to back up internal ROM in one step, not in few steps ( to make inage of your rom in one file ).
Please help

You'll have to search for it, but there is a tool to dump to a SD card. All you do is insert the SD Card with on preloaded proggy & text file. Not sure if it works on TYTN II, but worth a look. It was in the General XDA board somewhere (i.e. Development/Upgrading not in Kaiser Board), I used it in my BA & Hermes Days. Search for Rom dump to SD Card.
Actually, this may have been it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945

Hello im happy to see topic about this device ! i have dell axim x51v and i tried to upgrade to wm 6,5 from wm 5,0 few days ago.
I used rom: diad_k_aximx51v_wm65 with correcponding CRC hash file
here you have live links to ROMS and there are more places where is possible download ever WM6.5
i cant post links but i can share it with you
here is guide how to do it:
i cant post links but i can share it with you
But be aware ! i did it exactly step by step and reslt was bricked PDA .
I copied the *.nb0 & *.CRC file to my SD card (FAT32) non SDHC 2GB, insert into PDA, push POWER+WIFI+RESET after that release wifi button and while img loader appeared release all buttons, *.nb0 appeared so i choosed it and flash, read and also write to internal flash went good, even finall message displayed that upgrade was successfull and i should hardreset my device to complete flash, i did it - hard reset message when you should confirm hard reset appeared so i confirmed but nothing happen, i tried do again flash but same story, now im event not able to see *.nb0 file on my card ! so im without OS and i cant flash my device i can enter image update tool and also test tool which tell me that whole device is OK and passed all tests, when i remove SD and enter image update tool it tells me SD error so SD slot working.
If anyone can help i will be very happy !
