Internet Connection Sharing over WiFi

I desperately need to get ICS over WiFi working. I've tried WMWiFiRouter, but it either keeps giving me 'Fatal Error' or the connection drops off the moment the PC connects to it. I've also tried ICSControl.exe, a program that someone on XDA has created, but I just couldn't figure out how to get things going with that (or I'm too dumb).
Could someone please tell me the easiest way to get my data connection working on my laptop over Wifi? I'm using Raphael with the stock rom.

its built in i think in the commanager last option. but it is set to bluetooth pan standard if i am correct.
you can try use advanced config 3.1 and goto data connections.. change private interface for internet sharing to wlan.

i was surprised to see Advanced Config had the option there. But it still doesn't work
I changed the private interface from the default of 'Custom' to WLAN11g1 and it asks me to soft-reset the device, which i did. Then I go into Internet Sharing, and I still only get 'USB' or 'Bluetooth PAN' as options. Am i missing something?

there is another wlan option in there.
i have no idea how this is supposed to work :/
one would think that setting this option would set the setting to wlan as supposed to. not sure if you should change it or not afterwards with the connectionsharingsettingstab. it probably overwrites the value in registry.
here is something you can try :
turn on wifi
set the option in adv config to TnetWln1
reset
turn on this wifi AP application and try using it

Just tried WMwifiRouter on my Touch Pro and it worked fine

Works fine for me too. Takes all the hassle out of it!

2 questions:
1) Which network are you with? If your connection works but stops when you get ICS to try to connect, it may be blocked by your network if a) you are not allowed to use your mobile as a modem and/or b) ICS is not allowed. Does your connection work with standard email/web?
2) Why sharing your connection over wifi when BT pan works so well and so easily and you only need to share with your laptop? I use wifi when the laptop can connect directly to a router/hotspot, otherwise I use BT Pan. There is no real speed compromise as the bottleneck is the 3G connection itself), and BT 2.0 EDR offers a wide enough bandwidth for what you want to do. I use skype on my laptop with my 3G connection shared over BT PAN and it works a treat (that is, better than Skype 2.2 on WM!).
I'm probably missing something....

ICS has nothing to do with your carrier. It works the same way on your phone as it does on the pc. it merely routes the gateway to the devices connected to the ICS network.
I myself have a TP and use ICS with Softbank (softbank roms do not contain ICS) and it works fine.
I agree with you however, when it comes to bluetooth. Even if your PC doesnt have BT, it is well worth it to buy one of those nifty mini adapters.
they are so tiny, you wont even see them. But easy to setup and fast enough.

im with 3. nomal mail / web works fine. there are no restrictions by the network for ics. as for the BT question, I dont have BT on my laptop. it has built in wifi and i want to use that. i also have a mac n have never managed 2 get BT PAN working with os x.

Can't get BT pan to work with Vista either. My laptop does not "find" the HTC Touch pro as a pan enabled phone.

Version 0.91 is the last "free" version of the program. It is no longer free and it's version number has changed as well, version 1.11 is the latest.

First make sure you have no active BT connection, either on your desktop/laptop or on the TP (i.e. BT Headset).
You need to go to Comm Manager (BT switched on of course!), select BT Options (lower right menu), Mode, and select "make this device visible to other devices".
Once you've setup a partnership, it will probably say "connection denied" on the first connection.
Don't be as dumb as me, got to internet sharing (all programs) and select BT Pan and Connect... Then try to connect BT Pan again...
It *should* work (works a treat on my Vista 32 desktop and my Sony TZ11 Laptop, I get around 400-500kbps down and a bit less up).

I followed your directions exactly, but the problem remains. I get however once the phone pairs with the laptop (HP tx2000) a request for the "Bluetooth peripheral device" driver. I can't find this driver so it has probably something to do with this.

Maybe you should try IcsControl.
It's free and works great.

Id go wmwifirouter route. I have never had good luck with icscontrol never could get it to work and it pissed me off instead

You need to update the bluetooth driver for your laptop. Check the manufacturer (in, the device manager), usually widcomm or toshiba, and try to get it from their website if HP doesn't provide it (although they should). Vista drivers usually work, but I guess you're using XP? It may be worth checking on HP website to see if their offer updated BT drivers for your laptop.

I've tried both versions of the program (free old V0.91 and trial for the commercial V1.11).
They both work with the Touch Pro (tried with my Vaio TZ11).
V1.11 is however around 20% faster (I get an average of 500kbps with V0.91, and consistently above 600kbps down with the V1.11).
So the old version gives about the same bandwidth as my BT Pan (without the convenience of sharing between more than one client), while the V1.11 seems to be better optimised and provides better bandwidth.
The response time is around 100ms for both (against around 140ms for BT Pan). Upstream is around 300kbps for both version , against 400kbps for BT Pan.
This is on a UK T-Mobile HSDPA connection, with 3/4 bars signal strength (could those who manage to get it to work let us know if they get better figures?).
You should obviously get much better with Vodafone in a 7.2Mbps area like London/Major airports.

Fuze as a bluetooth or usb modem...

According to the HTC Wiki Page under Tips (http://www.htcwiki.com/page/FUZE+Tips) it states the following...
Description - Unable to tether device to a PC.
Details - Unable to use the device as a wireless modem; when trying to connect, the user gets “Remote Party has ended the connection”
Cause/fix - An AT&T Laptop Connect plan is required in order to use the device as a wireless modem.
I have not purchased the phone yet, but would want to occasionally tether it to my laptop to process credit cards via PayPal at trade shows. I downloaded a fix for my Samsung Blackjack to accomplish this. It is called Internet Sharing on the Blackjack. Has anyone developed anything to accomplish this on the Fuze/Raphael/Touch Pro? I want to make sure I will be able to successfully tether them (via bluetooth preferred) before purchasing.

I have read in previous posts that by simply navigating to the windows directory and running Internet Sharing you can teather via MediaNet, or could install the Internet Sharing CAB file. I was wondering if this will be true with the pre-releases of the Fuze that anyone may have.

it certainly should work since the tilt says the same thing about not using it unless you have the special plan. but internet sharing works as it does on my 8525. they just hide it from you

How to finalize Internet Sharing
I just got my AT&T Fuze, and I've been hunting around all day for this info. I have connected the phone through bluetooth, but I still apparently need a number to call. When I set up something similar for my T-Mobile HTC Wizard, I used *99# I think. What's the equivalent for AT&T?

Here's the login/dialup info I have used for my 8125 for about 2 years:
Dialup Number: *99#
APN: isp.cingular (or wap.cingular will work I've read)
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
I couldn't get my laptop to use the Fuze as a Bluetooth Modem in the same way as my 8125 so I turned on the Internet Connection Sharing on the Fuze by the deleting the registry key discussed below (requires a soft reset afterwards). I preferred the convenience of simply opening a webpage on my laptop and it automatically wirelessly using my phone as an actual Bluetooth Modem but the more cumbersome Internet Sharing Connection method download speeds seem to be much faster. Using http://www.speedtest.net as a benchmark connecting my laptop and my Fuze via Bluetooth PAN gives me 600-700 Kbps while connecting the Fuze directly to the laptop using USB gives me 1200-1300 Kbps.

No you do not need to purchase Phone As Modem plan.
No they will not charge you extra because there's no way for them to known you tethering to a pc.
I have two Touch Diamonds (not Pro's).
One for my wife and one for me.
My Internet sharing (Start\Programs\Internet sharing) only has one drop down menu, "PC Connection".
My wife's has two drop downs "PC Connection" AND "Network connection".
Now I bought her's two days after mine at the same Sprint store.
Her Internet connection shares Internet via USB connected directly to a PC without issue.
Mine doesn't since I have not been able to set the missing "Network connection" drop down menu option to the appropriate setting of "Sprint". Instead it either say Waiting for network or error 67 invalid username and password (something like that)
I deleted the key: (not just the value)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection
Now I got the second drop down menu "Network connection", restarted the phone and now it works like a champ.

Yep, the info posted by replayreb works. I setup tethering yesterday using the directions on AT&T's support site for the Tilt. On my copy of Vista I had to add some init strings to make it work.

Can anyone tell me why I can set up a bluetooth partnership with my laptop, but then my laptop does not see my Fuze unless I turn the phone off and back on again?

excelente, usb connection is a go!! deleted the registry key using Total Commander, soft reset, connect via media net, done!

bluetooth internet for laptop

anyone else having problems syncing the fuze via bluetooth to a laptop for internet on the road? I used to do this all the time with my 8525 with no problem, with the internet sharing program. On the fuze it has the internet sharing program AND a new program called wireless modem.
iv tried both and even used the directions in the manual, with no luck. anyone else having this problem?
every time i try and use the internet sharing program my computer will say connection successful, then 5 seconds later, my phone will say "the remote party has ended this connection".
UGHH SO FRUSTRATING!

all you have to do is change that to "MEdia Net"
Its just a pointer to which modem connection you have selected in connetions...
For me, I ditched the MEdia Net and created a new modem gprs connection called "GPRS" and didn't even put in any values (wap.cingular, usename, pass). I'm using 3G just fine AND my internet sharing works like a charm on my vista laptop

Prevent Desktop-Passthrough with 6.5.x

Hi All,
I'm running Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and am having a pain of a time locating the concept of this.
What I am trying to do is the following:
1. Plug my phone into my computer and activesync.
2. Allow for My Mobiler to access and control my phone.
3. Prevent my Phone from accessing network resources via my computer.
4. When I surf, have my phone use its data connection, not Desktop-Passthrough.
I want the benefits of charging and remote control of the phone, with the benefits of text messaging/surfing/email as on-device data.
I've tried setting the allowLSP to be 0, 01 and 10. No success.
My litmus test is tcpview to see whether or not the end-point is being shown on my computer.
I've done alot of searching, xda, ppcgeeks, google and microsoft. But, no success yet.

Doesn't Active sync ask you (during partnership set up) if you want to have data and calls enabled while connected to it?

It does, but even with the phone data on, it still pushes through to my PC unfortunately. I do appreciate that you brought that up though.

Can you just turn off the data connection of your PC? (pull the ethernet cable or disable the wifi card if you have one)

I was serching Google for the same reason as the OP, saw there was no answer and a while later figured it out by myself so I thought I would share: in AS connetion settings
check allow wireless connections and select work instead of automatic for the Computer connection. When I use Opera through MyMobiler, it launches my 3G connection instead of using the crappy Internet connection with lots of limitations that I have at the office

[QUESTION] Bluetooth Internet Access Help

I am using ARHD ROM (with Bricked Kernel).
My car can access and read out RSS threads and has a lot of interactive media functions, including being able access the internet via my bluetooth enabled phone. But I can't seem to get it to work fully, and really don't know if it is a ROM / Kernel / Phone issue or a car issue. I just don't know enough about the various bluetooth protocols etc, and as much as I research it, I keep going around in circes.
The car will connect to the phone and work fine as a bluetooth headset for telephone calls. It will also display the caller picture without issue and will access and read out my emails (using stock sense Mail client) and SMS messages. It also seems to connect to audio OK (although I never use it as it has a USB port that will accept a pop drive, so all my music is on the dashboard).
But the internet connection doesn't seem to work. I have looked into this and can't work out if it is a PAN or DUN profile issue. Soemtimes I can get the phone to show an internet connection being available to the car, sometimes it doesn't depending on which ROM I use and I can't seem to get any to work regardless.
Looking on the website, it claims the following:

Can somebody please help me with this. I really am baffled as to how to get this to work.

It has been a year or 2 since I got bluetooth networking going. Today I tried to get my phone to connect to my windows 7 desktop and.... it couldn't even connect sadly enough. Anyways this is from memory so it may or may not be correct. I don't like posting incorrect stuff because you never know who will read/flame.
1. pair your phone to the other device
2. connect via bluetooth your phone to the other device
3. I used the app in the link below to turn on bluetooth tether. Your kernel needs to support this feature. Just a note, there are 2 apps off the link. One is wifi only, the other does bluetooth and wifi. Assuming you get this app, turn on bluetooth tether. I don't know if you should turn tether on then connect bluetooth. Maybe it doesn't matter.
4. This step I don't quite understand. The bluetooth tether should "offer" a network service to the remote device. The remote device in turn must recognize the service and use it. DHCP is the easiest to auto configure everything. If you need a name server, use 8.8.8.8 since that is a public dns server by our google overlords.
