Generating .cab setup file with Visual Studio 2008 - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys!
Don't know if this is the right place to make a question, sorry if it isn't.
Well, I use Visual Studio 2008 to make some testing apps for my Opal (Viva).
I recently added to my solution a setup project. It works, it creates a cab and installs on my phone.
The only problem is that even if I choose my memory card as destination, my app always installs to phone memory.
Does anyone know how to configure property the setup project?
Thanks
CyberZeus_Viva

Solved, thanks anyway!

Help with PDB file?

I'm running WM6 on a wizard. I have a program which shows airfields and information about them called smart companion (attached for anyone who wants to play) which would be really useful for me as a commercial pilot. Unfortunately the associated database file is in pdb format which I was told would work on both Palm and WM (The executable is the WM version) but my wizard wont read it.
Does anyone know how to make this work or do i need a different database format? Can it be converted to the right one?
I have attached the pdb file as well.

For reading my PDB files I use a free program: OLIVETREE Bible READER: http://www.olivetree.com/pocketpc/
It has an option to read other stuff like ebooks, etc...
---
Thanks
Thanks for that I have downloaded it & will try it.
Ideally I would like to get the database to work with the 'smart companion' program as it allows you to add notes & shows the airfields in a proper diagramatic way.
Can pdb files be converted to work like this?
Thanks again

I am confused, are you trying to run an application made for a PALM device? If your answer is YES, try StyleTap you won't regret it: http://styletap.com
I just don't know if it is supported though. I use StyleTap to run SUperMemo for Palm. Although there is a SuperMemo for PPC but from a different company, and it sucks. The MapleTop SuperMemo software is better.
Thanks for the post cktlcmd.
The smartCompanion program has two versions. One for palm (a prc file) and one for WM (an exe file). However it only has one database file (a pdb file).
When I run the exe file on my wizard (tried it on wm5 and wm6). the programs runs fine but does not find the database. I made sure the database was in the same directory/folder as the exe file but no joy.
My mate who gave it to me reckons he knows people running it on WM and it is to do with where the database is stored but he runs it on Palm & doesn't know much about WM.
Since your post I have got it running using styletap and the prc (palm) version so I am very happy about that.
I would still very much like to work out how to use the exe version as it runs smoother (orientation changes very slowly using styletap when I want to use my keyboard and a few other minor annoyances).
Anyway your suggestion means I actually have use of the program, and I can run other palm programs if I want as well. Thanks.
Does anybody know if I have to have a pdb file in a specific folder for it to be found by a program?

Let me get this straight, when you install the PPC version it runs fine but can't find the pdb file, right? If the answer is YES, then there should be a setting within that PPC application on pointing to where you should place the pdb file. Otherwise, try the very root of the SD Card, that might be the default setting of the PPC application.

Microsoft Reader Factivation

I not know anybody do it before, if no it is long over due.
Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC is here long as I remember, it it nice reader but their activation method are pain in [email protected]@ if you use their Internet Explorer it many time fail complete activation (you can no use other browser because it is Microsoft and use AX, MS think *nix users must go [email protected] themself?).
And you can activate 6 devices maximum, very generous Microsoft!
Here solution:
Perpetual Activation for Microsoft Reader
It is no hacking.
I simply take advantage of Activation Process "logic hole", it is all.
Up when they change activation proceses (doubt) or patch MS Reader on next ad hoc version (more possible, but it required full build *and* it not stop this activation work on Windows Mobile with MS Reader 2.4.x installated).
This NO is keygen, crack or warez.
I find it (literary) in Microsoft, is all I can say.
Name it "factivation" from Freedom Activation (or [email protected] your stupid activations, Bill...)
I want post it with my real name, but I change mind, one never know what future is next, and law change every day
Install Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC
reboot
Install Microsoft Reader Factivation
have MS Reader activated at open.
It is all.
work on: Pocket PC Windows Mobile 2003, 2003 SE, WM5, WM6, WM6.1 (tested) with Microsoft Reader version 2.4.1
It may will work on WM 2002 if use Microsoft Reader version 2.4 and not the old one (no tested but may work).
Sorry my english!

Update on the M$ website
Please note that we have recently posted an update of the Pocket PC/Pocket PC Phone Edition version of Microsoft Reader.
This update addresses activation problems experienced by the users of some Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 Phone Edition devices. In addition we have made it easier to use Microsoft Reader with device storage cards

I have tried to activate my Titan since MS updated to make activation "easier", and just like in the past it didn't work with two separate attempts. I would love to tell the useless MS Reader team where to go. As of now I am through with that crappy product and have switched over to eReader - simple activation that always works and a better UI. I just wish I could get the money back for all the .lit format books I've bought over the years.
/edited (because exploit works)
Cool Exploit, thanks for sharing.
I put this in a cab with MSReader and it seems to work great!
didn't work
I tried the instructions as described above on my ATT Fuze (winmo 6.1) and it didn't activate my copy of MS Reader.

Surely Your Cab is fine, but not rof my device/rom/sw.
Anyone has some other ideas?
Anyway, my device is HTC Touch Diamond with default ITA H3G Rom 6.1, MS Reader 2.41.

It works great on all WinMo 2003SE/5/6.1 PocketPCs I have, all with the latest MS Reader 2.4.1 from microsoft's website.
I'd say PM the author if it doesn't work on your device, maybe there are some variables he (she?) have missed?
Didn't work on my Fuze either but did work on my Kaiser.
Oh well...

I was looking to make MS Reader more touch screen friendly on my htc Diamond (like go to next page on swipe right for example) and my google search turned up this thread. It greatly interested me (even though it wasn't what I was looking for) as I've had problems with my MS activation for some time (on another device). The big problem is that I don't know the heck as to what I'm doing (in this sense). Please excue my ignorance. While I know a fair bit about a lot of things IT this has me confused (outside my area of expertiese no doubt). The contents of the compressed file don't contain anything that looks like I can install it except "_setup.xml".
How does one run "_setup.xml"?
Just like any .exe file?
I've already run a search on this site to try to figure it out but my search foo must be weak because I'm none the wiser.
Any help would be appreciated

From what I understand you have unpacked .cab file (which you shouldn't - it is not .zip or .rar compressed archive, although it may look like one on your PC if you have winzip or winrar set as default viewer for .cab files).
Just copy the .cab file to your WinMo device and double tap on it, that's what you should do.
downloaded will test it later..
and hey mate
thanks for this.. :-D
worked like a charm thanks!
It works on HD2 and 2.4.2 USA version (Italian version and others are in 2.4.1)
Really great!!!!!
Great application -- thanks a lot!

Look for an example in open source applications. Search for example for "Reremind". It creates a cab.

what is mean RunCC and how i can cook app?

hi all
please help me
what is mean RunCC and how i can cook app?
** if u are also cooking in RunCC, cooking this app to the \Windows folder is recommended to save storage space (since the progress image are the same)
**
how i can do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792
how i can install android
If I understand your question right, you're wondering what RunCC is?
Well, RunCC is a customization program.
This means that it's a program that runs several files automatically, like CABs and themes you wish to install.
RunCC runs at first boot of windows, reads a text file. This text file contains locations of those files. It will install those files, and after it is done, your phone will reboot.
I recommend you read a lot more about it here at xda, just do a google search and you'll find plenty of guides that help you with cooking.
For Android, you also have to learn a lot more. Again, google is your friend!
Then, you have to make sure you have got a device on which android will run.
You need to have a:
Diamond, Touch pro, Diamond2, Touch Pro2, Touch HD.
If you have a different device, there's no android available for you.
Next time, try using the search functions that are available everywhere on this site!
Good luck!

[Q] Skills in creating CAB files on a SIM card

Hi All, I run a new start project called ROAMOBI and I am looking for a person who can create CAB files on a mobile SIM card? I understand this is quite clunky and laborious work but we have a great application? I can give you remote access to equipment for testing your work?
