Uploaded one of many pre-made EQ settings. i will begin making more soon. This one is for you Drum n' Bass lovers out there, you know who you are although this sounds alright with other kinds of music (better than the flat EQ anyway) it is built predominantly for songs with low bass, i will be making more EQ settings, working on a good Rock one as we speak
You install this exactly the same as my AudioMods. REMEMBER!!! you will need my other modified files for this to have it's proper effect. using this alone will not increase the volume by much and might not even work
editing the EQ on the G1 isn't hard, but it's kinda long winded and requires a fair bit of tinkering.
i'll try and talk you through it as best i can i've already enabled the EQ, all you need to do is set it up to your needs.
step 1 - download included file (the EQ taken from V1 audiomod, so a slight volume increase)
step 2 - open it with Microsoft Excel
step 3 - Editing. The only line we're interested with is Row 6.
If you look at this line, it's all to do with the EQ. you have BAND1 all the way across to BAND8. basically, i wouldn't touch either BAND1 or BAND8 as these are only filtering out the really high and bottom end which you don't want.
ok, so looking at BAND2 we have:
BAND2 gain
BAND2 gain does essentially what it says on the tin, increases the gain/volume. REMEMBER!!! we're working in hex here, so the lowest is 0 and the highest is 0F (i think)
for those who don't know much about hex it goes:
0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0A,0B,0C,0D,0E,0F and then 10. but 10 loops back to 0's volume so 0F is as loud as you can go, and in comparison to V3, which is only on 0B, thats pretty damn loud.
BAND2 Freq
yup, you guessed it. this controlls at which frequency range the gain controlls. a lower number is lower and a higher number higher. This is pretty advanced tbh, i left it well alone lol
BAND2 type
this is a tricky one. I think this controls what type of EQ is happening at that point, e.g. a parametric, or it could even be Q control, i don't know.
we can judge by BAND1 and BAND 8 that type 1 is a low-shelving EQ and type 2 is a high-shelving EQ. basically, you don't want to use these. again, i left these well alone.
so yeah, thats about it really. Gain is the only main one you need to worry about. you also need a basic understanding of how an EQ works.
Increasing all the Gains to the same volume is fine, thats what i did in my mods, but that gives a very 'basic' sound. creating a Bass Boosting EQ, for example, would mean you increase the gain in the first few bands and keep them lower in the mid-high ranges.
research, some spare time and patience would come in handy

here is a graphical representation of what i'm going on about. (i don't fully understand band 1 and 8 so i kinda left them out )
BTW this diagram and the file included is based on V2 so, as you can see in the diagram, the volume is already boosted quite a bit. i wouldn't go much higher tbh. 0B is V3 and thats pretty distorted, so i'd say thats about the limit. unless you're very brave

unfortunately i have not been able to make the settings change without rebooting the phone. but i imagine it's perfectly possible if someone can figure out how to do it

i'm just using my V2 atm which has a flat EQ. not had chance to mess with the settings properly.
it all depends what kinda of EQ you are after. i'm gonna try and make a 'smily-face' EQ (as we call it at college) which boosts the high and low end and leaves the mid range fairly untouched. personally, for the music i listen to (pendulum mainly ) it sounds pretty good.
Well, I tried that but it's very hard to fine tune.
When it sounds good with the head phones, it sounds like crap with the loudspeaker and vice versa.
And having to reboot the phone each time you try new settings makes the process way too long to appreciate the difference.

Ya when I get to it, I'm gonna have 2 files set and saved on sdcard. One for line out/headphones. And one for phone speaker out put and just swap them on the fly via terminal.
What about sym links. Just have both files and point them where u want depending on what use ur using... now some gui with on the fly adj would be the best.

just to throw this info out there. i have these files on my ext2 partation of my sd card and am using sym links like the old app2sd method. i have all three versions on here and can swap loudness with 2 commands. prob is i only know how to do it in adb, lol. i keep getting read only error from terminal when trying to swap. i know it can be done from terminal, im just overlooking something. this idea was sparked by the need for different settings based on headphones/lineout or phone speaker usage, but can be used for different music or whatever.
now you dont have to have on sd card some steps in first part will have to be changed if u dont want to go though all that, but for people with apps2sd its simple.
*edit: thanks to member innerlight he pointed out where i was screwing up in terminal when trying to mount as read/write, lol. if you want to do it in terminal type su (hit enter). then type mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock03 /system (hit enter). now follow the rest of the instructions starting with step 2 and leave off adb shell in the begening of each step.

ok at this point they're running off sdcard. here is where running sym links importance runs in. you can have several different eq settings saved in your /system/sd/etc/filename.csv(it can be anything u want like headphones.csv or what not) for purpose of this write up im using AudioFilter.csv as stock and AudioFilterv3.csv as the "loud" one. when u want to switch on the fly (and heres where terminal would come in handy) its just a few commands.
edit: remember if you want to do it in terminal type su (hit enter). then type mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock03 /system (hit enter). now follow the rest of the instructions starting with step 2 and leave off adb shell in the begening of each step.

Has anyone tried doing it with gscript.
2 ways and I am no expert but:
Without symlinks just stick one lots of files, eg. Heavy metal in1 folder on fat32 sd and another lot in another folder, eg. Hiphop. Then have 1 gscript to replace the folders in system/etc with the modified audio files in heavy and another gscript to replace files with those in hiphop? And then you can also have gscript automatically reboot....
With symlinks have 1 script use audio files from 1 folder and another gscript use another set of files?
Will this work? I use similar gscripts to backup and restore data from my workout app..
I will have a crack at it later tonight but have to figure out the whole eq level thing first. Wonder if I can use similar settings to the way core player does on WM?

Honestly I don't know much about gscripts yet, but don't see why that wouldn't work. I think that's similer to what lucidrem is doing in other theard to put one of the premade ones on there.
Honestly I like the idea of having them on my sdcard now that I have it done, lol. Think you can write a script that would do the bottom 4 steps in my post to switch eq? I edited my post to add commends from tereminal insted of adb . You can use the different ones the op made for test of theory.
I'm gonna try and make some eq's tonight.

but yeah, the only problem now is the rebooting issue. i'm gonna start working on a program for the market which lets you choose the EQ setting, but it's pointless if you have to reboot each time ><

So I'm gonna start making a personalized eq tonight. If I'm reading this correct you "loud" mod is just the eq turned up on all bands? Is there not a master gain, to just make it louder without effecting the different hz settings?
Also do we know what hz each "band" is, or just that left is bass and right is highs, lol?

If you've ever owned iPhone, I think you'd know what I'm looking for when I say "Crystal Voice." This was such a great app. Nice voice and professional.
I suppose it's possible to repackage the sound files from Crystal Voice and make it into a sound set for Android instead, but I'm not smart enough to do that lol.
I'd appreciate any input on this. I'm more and more loving my Android

Unfortunately, I'd rather keep my phone light and don't want to install a heavy program like that for my small purpose.
I ended up just doing it myself. In case, anyone is interested, here is what I did.
1. I extracted the sound files I wanted from iPhone (in this case, Crystal Voice). You can get whatever sound files you want.
2. Convert them into mp3 files.
3. Put them on your phone's sdcard
4. Use Root Explorer (or other softwares) to move them into desired directories:
System/Media/Audio/Notifications
System/Media/Audio/Ringtones
System/Media/Audio/UI
I think it's supposed to work then, but I had some trouble with the sound files not showing up, so I took the following steps.
5. Use ADB to change ownership of the files. "chown root.root filename"
6. Set permission to same as other stock sound files (you can easily check and compare through Root Explorer)
7. Restart your phone.
*In order to make some of those changes, you need to make sure to put your phone in debug mode. When you use ADB and use "su," make sure you have Superuser app running then choose allow.
*For UI files: For UI file, you need to rename your custom sound file to the exact same name and replace it.
Why should you bother?
lol, maybe you don't need to, but here are my reasons:
- I don't want to install 3rd party software because I want to keep my phone light. If I keep relying on 3rd party softwares, soon I'll be clogging my phone with too much stuff, slowing it down eventually and taking up space.
- With this method, the sound files become part of the ROM itself. This means, I can make a backup of this ROM, and whenever I do restore, I don't need to reset the sounds because they will be there as default sounds already set.
- Just for the fun and learning purpose. I'm new to Android, so it's good for me to experiment and learn tricks
I hope this is helpful to some people. If anyone want the sound files from Crystal Voice, let me know. I can share them with you.

Some notes!
- I didn't make them. Crystal Voice is a free sound theme in iPhone. The credit goes to its author. I merely converted them to make them compatible with Android.
- You have to manually replace the files. Chown may not be neccesary as some sound files worked without that step.
- ACCESS GRANTED: I really love this unlock voice. HOWEVER, it turns out that Android uses the same sound for when you submit things on the internet (e.g. when you click on search) and when you pull or dismiss the keyboard. In other words, your phone will say "Access granted" many times. I gave up on using this sound because that's just annoying and weird. (Instead, I am using a Lion's roar sound, which is cool for both unlocking and browsing experience). I suggest you find your favorite sound for it too (maybe a puppy? lol).

Hey everyone!
Long story short, I have a Nexus 7 that is running base AOSP, version 4.2. I've managed to change the boot animation with relatively little trouble (took way too long to realize I needed a damn newline at the end of the file), but I'm a bit stuck on changing the boot sound. Or, more specifically, adding a boot sound, as there was none before.
I've found all kinds of tutorials that said all kinds of things (put PowerOn.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui/ which makes the most sense to me; put PowerOn.wav in /system/etc/; other such things) and none of them worked. I suspect it may be because no market devices use this bare-bones version of Android, and there's some trick to enabling this functionality, but really, I don't know.
I'm not sure how many people out there have had experience with this, but any advice would be appreciated.

For the benefit of future generations, I have determined that the only way to enable this is to do so before the image is compiled by changing some default config files in the ROM. So if you have an image that doesn't support boot sounds, you're out of luck, unless you have the liberty to rebuild it yourself.
Granted, I still have yet to accomplish this goal, as the boot sound still won't play, but I think this has to do with the sound device being unavailable at boot time. I don't know if this is the case, but my experiments indicate that I can't play sounds with stagefright as early in the boot process as I thought.
Just figured I'd jot this down for anyone in the future who finds this thread and needs help.

i have been screwing with these mods and have somwthing that can totally change what these mods do for you.
i have tips for huge audio that begin even before your ausio mods are even installed.
But i am goin to give you a fat piece of the steak then come back and to the begining

using these edited files on many different nods i have no need for an equalzer. infact most will destroy the sound these creat.
exept for equalizers at direct source. What i mean is when the app that plays the source file
For music i mostly use the Onkyo player. has an equalizer,upconvert and other cool stuff
For Movies i use a copy of Mxplayer that has a dts patch
Sonetimes i use The Vlc video player has a nice preamp and equalzer.
My experince has been eqalizers aplied down the line destroy The Artists Intentions.
I reco mend disabling all mods and eq to get the true value.
As i write this i have srs and beats files uploaded. turn off dolby maxx and viper4android If you have them Just to see what these do
Backup and prep
most people know about custom recoverys
but often we make edits or changes where the negative effects that dont show up untill after we have new data and stuff we dont want to lose.
Zipme by jrummy can help you greatly.
it can be directed to files and folders it can create a flashable signed replication that can often repair problems without full restore
exanple
flashable backups of soundeffects.conf,build.prop,launcher,framework,systemapps,etc can save you many hassles.
also another huge tip
my recovery twrp has a file manager
example
i have a copy of my build.prop in my system named build.prop.bak
say i made a build.prop edit but wasnt worried or forgot to backup
my edit bootlooped me
i boot to recovery mount system,go to filemanager delete or rename the build.prop then remove .bak from the copy ,reboot,Problem solved.
you cab use this for anything franework ,apps ,init.d
I mod everything so i do bootloop trying things but i can often fix problems without ever doin restore
Another valuable tool
an app nandroid backup manager
it can go into your Backups and extract files and data Even if your backup wont boot
example
Say you flashed a new kernel You forgot to do a backup
Oh **** you flashed a kernel for your other phone .
you are totally screwed
Go ahead make a backup even though it wont boot
once you get a rom installed or firmware flash
you can use the manager to easily get everything you want out of your backups

i am gonna say all phones have "govenors and Restricters
Most have badass hardware. But none of the software was ever written to get full potential of all high tec hardware
Often just few build.prop edits can make your phones sound much better.
This is different anongst phones but the concept is the same
i have a samsung tab 4 7 inch 4.4.2with marvel processors.No delopment at all for it. There is no api for bluetooth,Couldnt run an eq Well **** that sucks It so fricken quiet i couldnt here a thing even through bluetoot

for those that know what they are doing.
uzip these. srsprocessing goes in system/etc/srs
the two truemedia files go in system/etc/soundimage
REBOOT
depending on your specific mod truemedia files may be in system/etc and not in a soundimage folder
these will add huge huge bass to your srs while using BLUETOOTH
Be careful some small speakers may tear or simply RUN AWAY
amTruemedia i have decreased compression and windows. Added gain and added huge place holders to bass mins
srs_processong decreased compression and window dropped freq to 55hz and added gain
you will need a min of 90 mb free in system
these took hours and hour to make as i dont have a computer so all was done from my phone. just to load a file in jota takes 5 minutes then another 5 to insert aditional lines
Anybody with a comouter can open these up and make these sounds four times increased than what i have
ps. on the srs_processing file i got tired and stopped editing. So the 55hz is more inxreased in the video aspect. But this is just the surface anybody can modify these.
Its possible for audio mod creators to package these in there mods already
also with addin huge boost at srs level its likely that some dolby and max will tone these down. Try turning them off in build prop to see. Such i have down. i shut max complely off except for dts ,also i have dolby off as well.
And you can make huge eq to these wirh edits turni on eq turn on all bands,add gain and add placeholders to band mins

One question: Why the file size of these are times 1000 the size of any srs configs i have known?
i am trying to make use of all the intelligenxe on these files.To be real about your question. Most audio mods you see are a ton of files put together All having big names."sony,etc" i have been able to use them for what i want.
i havent found any other way to get the sound i want.
The files are so big because sound has been added to them.So far the only way i have learned to do so is by increasing values and file size is the cost.
The srs files have Huge bass boom that is very clean if the system runs properly.
I want to spend alot of time to explain everything. I am homeles and do everything from a phone. I have a weird life and get side tracked often .
If people here knew what i have learned Audio mods would be changed forever.
i have a 49 dollar samsung light and a shark bluetooth speaker that sets the air on fire when i play music and videos.

i rewrote the eq file with 50 bands and set gain to 12
so the app is running the file as written but isnt aware of what its doin

i am not sure whats gonna happen if you start adjustin individual bands. i may work on this more

50 Band--unbearable screech. What's that? Why are all the Mod.O.HF.players same size after your modifications? Anyway, fyi, sound in a little better without FeaturedEQ.
Sure you can download mp3s from many places, but they are really crap quality with a lot of hiss and don't sound well (yes I am an audiophile)
Obviously I prefer android for 99% of things, but I just really like the ios ring and textones.
I have an iphone but can't figure out anyway to get into the system files and extract the audio files. Surely someone has done it right? Is there a zip file or somethign I can download?

You can jailbreak iOS to get the ringtones you want then copy and transfer them but you will have to convert them from M4R format to MP3 so that android can use it.
