Hi all,
I'd like a little advice on choosing a PDA, if possible. I need to satisfy a few criteria, as I am going to be creating a piece of software for use by a potentially large group of people.
The criteria:
Must have WiFi
Ideally will have an internal GPS receiver
Should be quite robust, and the app is mainly for outdoor use
Large colour screen, so smartphones are generally out
Cheap(ish) - as in low cost, but not rubbish!
Should be widely available
Any help would be appreciated!
Tough combination to find.
There is HP Ipaq 6900, which has GPS, WiFi, BT, but it has a square screen (200x200). Not sure about the cost.
Now, there are several phones with GPS like Mio 701/700 or Eten G500, but non of them have WiFi, and they have the 2.8 inch screen like my Jamin (Prophet) or Wizard which have WiFi but no GPS (can be added via BT).
And finally there is the Exec/Universal which has a big(er) screen, but still no GPS and certainly not cheap.
Oh, here is one that is cheap (because its old) PDA2K / Qtek 9090 / XDA IIs. Big screen, WiFi, but no GPS and a lot of people here say that its a crappy device in general.
Whell, that wasn't exactly a reccomindation but mabe it will give you some ideas.
That's fantastic levenum - exactly what I am looking for!
The GPS issue may be resolvable by using an external bluetooth receiver rather than requiring an internal module, so that item on the criteria list could be treated as an ideal rather than an absolute.
I'd still be interested in more recommendations along the lines of large screen, color, WiFi and bluetooth.
Thanks!
Oh, I just re-read your post, and noticed that the device doesn't actually have to be a phone. (I just assumed cause this is mainly a phone forum)
Check out HP iPaq 4700. It has WiFi, BT, and most importantly the biggest scree a PDA ever had (its also VGA). Also it has both CF and SD slots so there are more ways to add expansions to it.
Is there any program for smartphone that measures the 0-100km/h(60mp/h), 0-400m, ... speeds?
Something like GPS Performance and GPS Tuner or TrakPal
I tried GPSDash and VITO ActiveTrace, but they show acceleration in m/s²,if they show it at all. Is it possible to port these programs?
I mean a *proper* compass, like the new Nokia 6210?
I was thinking up upgrading my Kaiser to a Raphael, but this is one feature I have been hoping they would add to GPS for a while and am thinking of holding on.
Does NMEA GPS support saying what direction you are facing? Or is that extrapolated purely in the software? Just wondering as would apps such as TomTom support it if a compass were integrated with the GPS?
Everyone,
Has anyone ever found Radio files for the Viewsonic G?
I am just wondering as all Android phones I have had have always had radio updates which provide better wifi/bluetooth/camera etc.
Surely there is something similar for the Viewsonic G?
btw for people who are not sure, this is not FM Radio or Phone related stuff so please dont get confused.

i don't think anything other than kernel modules (bt/wifi/etc are merely part of the kernel). there's no actual flashable radio's / firmwares for anything since it has no mobile radios that require firmware.

Ok, I just read somewhere once that Radios was a misnomer.
For the HTC Desire, 720P recording was Dependant on a Radio update as the camera firmware was part of the radio.
They went on to mention the radio is for all hardware essentially, with the RIL (radio interface layer) the files the kernel works with.
must be different for this tablet.
I read somewhere about the wifi card having an fm radio part to it too hmm. will try and find it

There is an updated driver and firmware for the wifi module, actually.
The firmware blob is actually driver-loaded at boot time, I believe, not flashed to ROM one time.
So if you use pershoot's kernel and wifi module, you are getting the latest wifi firmware. Some people have reported better wifi results. See pershoots kernel thread in this forum for more info.
Thanks will give it a shot
Hi guys,
I've been looking to get a heart rate monitor to use with the Runtastic apk.
I've noted that most of the devices requires Android 4.3 or newer and low energy Bluetooth (V4)
https://www.runtastic.com/shop/en/runtastic-bluetooth-smart-combo-heart-rate-monitor
http://www.polar.com/en/products/accessories/H7_heart_rate_sensor
Do you know if any of these devices is compatible with the HTC Sensation?
What device do you use?
Any suggestion to get a good device for less than 40 EUR/50 US$?
Thanks
Polar WearLink should work - requires Bluetooth 2.0.
