Hello all -
First off thanks for all the help you've given me so far with the wealth of experience and knowledge here I've been gleaning from.
I can't seem to find an answer to this one:
I've got my tp setup to use google sync. We use google apps at work, so I had the admin allow exchange, which is how googlesync works in windows mobile.
With me so far?
I've got activesync successfully connecting to the "exchange server" (google), and syncing calendar perfectly.
Is there a way for this syncing to happen without activesync being open all the time? I have activesync set to sync google with my calendar "as new items arrive" - but it seems that I have to leave activesync open all the time for this to happen...
Is there a way for these to sync continually without leaving activesync open all the time?
Thanks in advance,
Goonies never say die...

Is it possible to synchronize my 8125 without Outlook? I am not willing to use it let alone install it.
Sure, you can sync, but it will not sync contacts, calendar, or notes as there's nothing to sync with.
Are you asking if there are other applications you can use instead, or just if you can sync files, music, and things without the need for the rest?
sure you can just make an email account with mail2web.com it gives you an online exchange server for free and you can sync your contacts to that whether you use the email or not is your choice but it gives you something to sync to
That's pretty kickass!
I have been using Emoze for my push email, but that meant leaving my PC on all the time, this means I can just forward email to it, and use that.
Not really the reason you posted it, but thanks

I found a solution to my problem and I,m just posting it for everyone else to see in case they need it to:
FinchSync

Did you have the phone in Modem link mode or activesync mode when you connected it to the pc to use finchsync?
Install Linux on your pc and use something like Kitchensync or similar to sync with your favourite program
@famewolf: Sorry I can't help, I haven't used it yet.
Hi all,
Does anyone know of an alternative to Activesync that allows the direction of sync'ing to be specified.
Our users are struggling with Activesync as deleting a contact from their device also results in the contact being deleted from their Outlook account next time they sync.
I'm looking for something that will sync everything to the device, but not delete from Outlook should any changes be made on the mobile device.
Phone in question is a Wizard.
Thanks.
Nick.
Does the lack of response mean that nothing is available like this?
Have you looked at Intellisync or PocketMirror for WinMobile? I'm certain both have that ability.
http://www.sync.com/is_desktop_main.html <-- Intellisync
http://www.chapura.com/pmp_wm.php <-- Pocket Mirror
exactly what i was looking for
Pocket Mirror is way better.
and also found exactly what i needed LivePIM to sync PalmOS to PPC, and vice versa
A free alternative to activesync if you just want to keep your calendar synchronised is to use Google Calendar in the middle.
Google calendar can be set up to synchronise with Outlook using the Google Calendar Sync software. I then use the freeware version of OggSync to synchronise Google Calendar with my Windows Smartphone.
It works for me!
Hi all
I`m pretty sure many ppl ran into this problem before me, so I hope someone will be kind and shed some light for me on this one
It seems to me that for some reason I cannot keep my contacts and other stuff on my Universal after deleting a AS relationship with my PC.
This is what I did:
Initially I sync my desktop PC to my Universal via active sync 4.5. (the synchronization includes: contacts, calendars, appointments, notes from outlook 2003)
So far so good the relationship created between the PC and the Uni fine and Now I have my contacts etc on my phone.
Now I decide I don`t wish to necessary break the relationship between the PC and the Uni, but I do not want to sync my contacts anymore.
On the AS i hit tools>options and try to remove the check from say the contacts. at that point AS welcomes me with this: "To proceed, AS must remove all Contacts on your PocketPC. Do you want to continue?" niiice.... so at this point if you say no nothing happens if you say yes guess what... all your synced contacts are gone... Now I want to keeeeeeeeeeep them.
If i try to delete the relationship from the AS, then next time I connect the Uni AS REMOVES everything that was used to set to sync without asking...[contacts,notes,calendar,tasks] I have to add that when you are deleting a relationship it does tell you that it will remove all this from the uni next time you connect it....
I tried this from my uni > active sync settings "delete" the PC from the list (aka remove the relationship) and it immediately removed all contacts etc..... even if i just try to stop the contacts from being syced with the PC it warns me that if I do this it`ll remove all contact from the uni..... ???
???
at this point I`m just sad about this because it`s not a bug certainly. Its just bad design IMO.
here are a few details about this show:
PC: MS Windows XP PRO SP2 with all updates as of now.
PPC: T-mobile MDA PRO running ROM:2.02.00 WWE -- thanks Jay...
AS: Active Sync 4.5.0 (build 5096)
Outlook: MS Outlook 2003 Standard with all the updates as of now.
Is that really possible that they actually thought this way of synchronization was a good idea???
I like to figure out a way that would allow me to keep all the data on the phone even after I deleted the AS synchronization relationship.
...going once....
Maybe not that many people got stuck with this then....
I`ll try a few things in the meantime....
WIZARD82. I have the same issue. Did you ever find a solution?
Wait a minute.. are you trying to let the PC be connected with ur Uni via AS but not sync anything? I tried doing that before... I think the trick is with Outlook since AS does not provide any other option. You have to like break the connection between AS and Outlook or something.. I'll play around it when I get home.
Edit:
Hey I got it... I tried it here at the office. Just delete the current relationship and create a new one without checking anything in the list of items to be sync'ed. You still get to keep all the data on both PC and PPC!
1. Make sure the PPC is unplugged.
2. On AS, go to File -> Delete Mobile Device and just say Yes to the question.. you won't lose anything (as far as I know since I still have all my contacts)
3. Plug in ur PPC.
4. Create a new relationship without checking any options on the list of items.
That's it! Hope this helps.
Hi
I'm using a WM6.1 device and would like to sync at least the calendar with two exchange servers (2003 SP2). Ideally, i also would like to sync the contacts.
so:
ExchangeWORK <-> WM6.1 <-> ExhangeHOME
Anyone a solution please?
my thanks
Patrick
Not sure this will work, I was going to do something similar, with having all business contacts and appts. on my office computer and peronal on my notebook. The problem is, it's possible everything will get mixed together. So let's say you start with your work server, and all the info is on, now when you sync your home server, it will also grab the work info as well, now you'll just have everything twice, on both servers and your phone. The problem is, it syncs all data in the phone.
This is exactly what i want, just duplicate the date on my workcompu, homecompu and wm6 device.
Problem is that through activesync you can only sync your data (email, contacts, calendar, etc) with one partnership.
but i managed the above by using workaround
i use google calendar sync now and this works nicely
so on my workpc my exchange calendar is synced with my google calendar
and the same trick on my home pc.
not ideal, but it works nicely
now i have to find something for syncing my contacts
any sugestions?
thks
Patrick
I'm not sure about using an Exchange Server, never used myself, but after setting up the one, have you already tried setting up the other?
Also, there is a good chance this will duplicate everything though. Once the second server picks up the info from the first, it will all go back to the first when you sync with it, and visa versa.
Hey there. Ive been looking for quite a while now, but even the search function in this huge board cant help me out.
I'd like to:
Have my Gmail pushed
Have my Gmail Contacts synced
Have my Google Calendar 2way synced
ive found several possibilities to sync either gmail OR calendar via Exchange, using www.nuevasync.com for Calendar and Contacts OR using mail2web.com for Gmail. Sadly nothing that supports both.
Now, since i cant use 2 Exchange servers with wm 6.1 (im using UdK's Diamond R8 on my Polaris) im kinda stuck.
Does anyone of you know a service that offers both Gmail push and Calendar/Contacts sync, or if its possible to have 2 Exchange servers sync simultaneously, how?
And, to make it worse, id prefer not to use any additional programs like SEVEN or oggsync.
thanks in advance
daschalki
bump :X
any help appreciated
Despite what people may say, it is possible to sync with two Exchange servers. The only way I've been able to do it successfully is to manually create the partnership reg keys in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partnerships by copying and editing an existing partnership. Do this with ActiveSync closed.
I currently have one server set up to do mail, contacts, tasks and a second exchange server to do only calendaring. If you have multiple Exchange servers with the same services marked (i.e., mail checked for two), things start to get hairy. If you want to try to do calendaring with two servers, you'll need to change the value "NonLocalCrossPolination" in the ActiveSync key to 1, and no guarantees that you won't cause some sort of recursive loop of updates.
Partnerships are treated in LIFO order - Push sync notifications to the device are only recognized by the FIRST partnership listed in ActiveSync, which seems to be the LAST partnership added. This means that 99% of the time you'll want whichever server is set to do mail to be the last one you add. Whenever you receive a push notification that a sync is necessary, all partnerships will check for updates. This normally works just fine since you'll be receiving mail at least as often as you will be making calendar changes.
thanks for the help, ill try to get that workin.
I can confirm that this is working.
Have you seen this from Google?
http://lifehacker.com/5149741/google-sync-keeps-contacts-and-calendars-in-sync-on-your-mobile-phone
this might be what you are looking for
Yeah, Google just started their own sync service using Active Sync.
http://www.google.com/mobile/default/sync.html
Still doesn't sync your mail, but you can always use IMAP
Has anyone been able to use this to sync multiple calendars?
