accessing adb shell? - G1 Android Development

ok I have a rooted g1 but I need to use adb shell log into g1 and remove ahome, or use adb uninstall mobi.bbase.ahome to uninstall it. Someone told me this. how do I do this. I am such a newb and its an EMERGENCY. How do i access adb shell? my phone is F***** and I need to uninstall something but I cannot access my g1 because it keeps force closing.

gee i wish there was some way that a person could quickly look through the old threads in this forum so that they could easily get the answers they need when they need them. something like a search function but more defiened by only looking for certain words like "setup adb" or "android sdk" all within a certain forum of this great site. hey mods would you mind making something like that for this site? i hate reading through the site from front to back looking for a specific thing, it causes me to be an absolute moron and post a new thread which makes other members mad for posting the same thing a hundred times. thanks in advance

''Clean'' Firmware?

I understand everyone is Pimping out there g1 with the HTC Sap but is there such a thing called a Clean Firmware.
With the g1 having extreamly bad battery, I was woundering if it was possible for a Clean Firmware where there is all this extra junk on the phone that is not needed, Cleaned off the phone. Make a new Radio that uses less data and the use of Edge only(I understand theres a option)
*Please, I understand how power full this OS but some people dont need this extra junk sitting on there phone making there phone slower
PS: I understand I have little posts this this forum, Please, give me some respect.

if you are wanting to remove certain applications from your phone just remove them using the terminal emulator. for example to remove amazon.apk cause it's stupid you could do this(assuming you rooted your phone)
su
rm -r /system/app/com.amazon.mp3.apk
you can do this for any application on your phone but keep in mind that certain apps might cause instability. for example if you delete myfavs you will end up with a very unstable phone

people who have flashed the 4.5/4.9 sapphire builds have been reporting much much better battery life. probably best to do this then, as remedial said, remove whatever you need through the terminal.
There are consequences for flashing to these builds. Do remember that these are beta builds and may be unstable in certain cases.
Alright, I am back from my plane trip from my vacation. This is the reason I had no access to a computer. Anyway

First Off, I don't have the time to keep up with all 160 Pages of a Firmware. Most of those pages are non scene and just a waste of time. I started a Thread because I was told that I would get my answers but seems as I am getting the Same Jack ass response. I am asking for a freaking opinion, on this. How do you expect to keep up with that thread when people have LIVES seems to me as if I am the ONLY Person that hasn't read that thread.

It will work as long as you have one of the JF builds. Keep in mind though that if will come back every time you flash a new theme and then you have to delete it again.
And just to give you all a head start, here's a list of *safe* apps to remove

Alternate method to installing Market content

In case there's somebody around here wondering, I'm starting a thread to show you how to download FREE apps if you don't have market access. Any FREE app you can find online in .apk form is yours. Please note you DO NOT need ROOT ACCESS to follow these steps, but I recommend it anyways, so use that nifty search bar and try it out.
Note: This is a method only for installing FREE APPS that are already free. Some people complain of not having the market app, others have market crash issues. This method is only to be used as an alternate to the Market if you do not have market access.
What you'll need:
Method of data transfer between phone and computer (USB Cord, MicroSD adapter, etc)
ASTRO File Manager- Found in the Android Market for free.
Level of Difficulty: 2/10
Procedure:
Step 1: Download ASTRO File Manager
This is self-explanatory. Go into your market and search for: ASTRO
Look for the result that reads: ASTRO File Manager
Download the app, it's free.
Step 2: Connect phone/SD to computer
Either plug in your phone and select mount, or plug your MicroSD into an adapter. Once your computer recognizes the SD card, move to step 3.
Step 3: Create free apps folder
Create a new file folder on your SD card in the top directory (meaning on the SD card and not in any other file folder). Name it Free Apps or similar.
Step 4: Download your .apk files
Search the internet for your desired applications. XDA forums and iPmart are great places to start. Once you find your application, download it and drag it to your Free Apps folder on your SD card.
Step 5: Unmount phone
This doesn't need explaining.
Step 6: Run ASTRO
Once your phone is unmounted and ready, run ASTRO File Manager. Once the application loads, it will list all the folders on your SD card. Navigate to your Free Apps folder, and select it. Once open, find your application you wish to install. It may list it twice, one with the logo and the other with a little settings logo, click the one that has the actual application logo.
Step 7: Installation
A menu will popup with two choices: Explore or App Manager. Select App Manager. It will come up with a new window, and beneath the application logo will be a button that says install. It will bring up the familiar installing are you sure screen, click yes and install it. Once it finishes, click done. Now you can install more or run your application.
That's it, enjoy your apps.
Hmm... I don't see any piracy. There are a lot of "Free" apps online. Android is Open Source. Now if he was talking about downloading paid apps for free... then we have a problem.
This is just a thread showing how to install free apps... which there are billion of online.

Advanced Task Killer PRO v1.7.6

Should I go on or should I let you continue making yourself look foolish??

We dont support wares here kid. So please GTFO these forums with your ****ING ****! people work hard to make these apps so people like us can enjoy them. And they spent hours on making the apps and your here to rip them off really?
Now If you would kindly like to support the free apps for being free and the paid apps for being PAID!!!
Then you shall do this for the "goodies" aka Free apps.

As far as "piracy" is involved... I don't see any here. Just because the guy says there's a way for you to go throw yourself off a cliff, doesn't mean you're gonna go do it, right ?
He's offering a solution on how to install freely available .apk's. How you get them and If YOU choose to go download them, that's your problem.
Now let's play nice...
VinceOB, MyDroidHax, and Juggsy, you all really need to calm down. I may not have worded it correctly, but I fixed it. The reason I posted this was because a ROM I installed for whatever reason didn't have the market app, so I had no market access. There are a wide array of free apps on both sites, yes there are a few paid on iPmart, but iPmart is still one of the best overall sources for free apps as well. Seriously, i didn't plan on awaking to controversy.

I didn't see him drop the f bomb on u. He might have meant it that way but that would be putting words in his mouth.
Sometimes I wonder what the qualifications are to become a mod are. So far I believe the first three qualifications are ego, power hungry, and favoritizm.
Care to elaborate on the extensive and rigorous interviews and testing that took place to acquired ur higher status.
BTW win Mobil is only around cause its backed by Microsoft. Doesn't mean it's a great OS. Just that the backers have deep pockets and wont let it die.
ok, I don't like or condone the way this thread has gone. Instead of discussing the topic of free apps, its all about calling people names and slagging each other off.
@cbarlan - The f word was never mentioned by either MyDroidHax or
NRGZ28. One used "-Blam-" the other "***". It was actually you which first referred to the f-word.
But none of this matters. What matters is your respect for fellow xda users as per rule #2 below.....which by they way does mention no cursing which MyDroidHax blatantly flaunted.
2. Be polite and respect your fellow xda-dev user.
There is no need for cursing, flaming, racism or personal attacks. There are a lot of different nationalities on this forum all with different cultures, this means that no matter what you're like, you'll have to adjust to people that are most definitely not like you. For this reason we'd like to ask you to refrain from discussions about religion or politics, we do not wish to limit your right to free speech, but we have noticed these topics tend to get heated and might be best discussed in a different environment. It will gain you a lot of respect if you help to keep the peace. It's disrespectful and therefore not permitted to create Alias Member names in an attempt to deceive others.

Please remind nrgz28 who is a moderator of the rule u posted. I believe he was very rude in emplementing his harsh warnings instead of being polite and respectful. U can be stern and respectful at same time. And for future reference when someone uses stars inplace of a word it is usually vulgar. Also no need to threaten with this is ur first and last warning. Remember rule u referenced and be polite as well. I'd be willing to write up a wiki on how to use ur manners and be respectful as I've had to reach my six year old. Kinda the same thing
Thank you to the mods for the cleanup work. MyDroidHax initially used F***ING, and then edited it. I read the post almost immediately.
Anyways, I updated the post, and I wrote it at 1AM here today, so I was tired. Sorry for misconceptions guys. Like I said, I had market issues, so I found this way to help me and felt I'd share.
Yes you can get paid apps, but it doesn't mean you should or are going to. This is just a workaround to a normal situation, use it how you will.
Also, you guys really shouldn't rip on the mods. The rules clearly stated that you can't do what MyDroidHax did, and so he was told he can't. So? That's how it works, he won't do it again if he doesn't want to get banned.
On a related note, this can also be used to install apps that are not in the market but are available online, such as betas hosted online, custom apps, etc. If you're rooted, you should have "install non-market apps" checked, but if it's not it will take you to the screen where you check it during this process.
I am 98% sure this doesn't require root access. The file manager I know doesn't, and on the Hero (since we have not been neutered like ATT phones) we can install apps from outside sources. So that option is freely available.
What here requries root access?
Not giving you heck, just trying to make the post more informational.

[Q] I'm a noob

So as you all can tell....I'm new to this forum and to the Android platform as well. I just switched from my Iphone to the Galaxy S 4g and it has been great so far! After doing a little research myself I was able to root the phone via superoneclick. As I was reading further into the certain roms that are out and things I could do to further enhance my phone, I decided to get the new gingerbread 2.3.3. I used the program called Odin 1.7 to flash rom and besides from the known "rainbow screen issue and the low wifi signal" it is running smooth. I was just curious on what these programs called adb, cwm(clockwork mods I believe), and cyanogen7? are used for and how? I apologize for my noobness for asking these questions but I just feel like a kid in a candy store with no cash to spend hahah. If someone can redirect me to some links that can get me a general idea of how the Android software and mods work that would be great!!!
I remember signing up for these forums and not actually using them 'cause I was reading and trying to catch up with the vast amount of info available here... It was overwhelming to say the least.
ADB is the Android Debug Bridge. If you've ever used the command prompt, it's essentially the same. You type in commands and they get executed on the phone. I still argue that you get more power and flexibility through text-based programs, which ADB will let you use. You can use ADB if you use your phone to go into Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging (check the box next to it) then you can hook up your phone to the computer and run the ADB server on the computer. If you have superoneclick, it should've come with the ADB server as part of the tools.
CWM is a recovery mod, it sits on top of the phone's standard recovery program and gives you more power than the default one. You can make complete and partial backups of your phone's data in case you're flashing roms constantly and something goes wrong. You won't be able to use CWM with gingerbread at this moment since there's no support for it, but if you downgrade to Froyo, you'll be able to.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
Cyanogen Mod isn't available for our phone yet, but it's a popular rom on the phones on which it is available.
Have fun!
EDIT:
You should probably bookmark the bible, lots of good references there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
welcome to the forum! glad everything works well for you on the first time flashing gingerbread. you can read up on everything in the bible thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
check out the guides and it should give you a pretty good feel on everything.
Welcome to XDA!
First of all, kudos to the fact that you're brand new and you've already learned to ODIN gingerbread yourself.
ADB is a way of transferring and editing files on your phone.
It's very useful for editing system files, etc.
Not really necessary for you to know right now.
CWM, or ClockWorkMod, is an easy way for you to change your phone theme, apply a ROM (a combination of themes, or modifications), or flash tweaks. Right now, Gingerbread doesn't have CWM but it should be coming in the near future.
For the basics and a few tutorials, look for the GS4G bible, and also look at my tiny little guide, here.

If you don't wanna pay for QuickSSHd you can also get SSHDroid
https://market.android.com/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sshdroid
You install the app on your phone, then you can get a program on your computer that supports SSH
Putty
WinSCP
Tunnelier
I prefer Putty for running commands and Tunnelier for transferring files. When you run SSHDroid, it'll explain to you how to use it.

[Q] S-ON/S-OFF root Help? & Key Function List HELP?? PLEASE??

1st Question:
Ok so I had my phone rooted by a friend with S-ON and now I can gain access to the root menu by using “superuser” and “root explorer.” I was able to remap a few buttons using “ButtonRemapper,” which is a great program but the only problem is that it doesn’t remamp all of the functions I want. If I try to edit the doubleshot-keypad.kl file through Root explorer I still cannot gain R/W access. I can only gain R/W access in the “/system” folder. Anything after that will still restrict the access to R/O (i.e. /system/usr/keylayout which is the file I want to edit). Is this because the phone was rooted with S-ON or am I doing something else wrong???
2nd Question:
I need help locating key functions for my T-mobile Mytouch 4g slide. I just need to know what are the code numbers for the long-press function of the 4 buttons on the front of the phone and not the keyboard. I want to change them and I’m not exactly sure how. Can anyone help?!?
I know the original function for the quick-press is like this:
# physical keys
key 102 HOME
key 139 MENU
key 158 BACK
key 188 FUNC_4
I’m trying to change the long-press function of those buttons. Also does anybody know what the button for the key number 107 goes?? It says that key 107 = ENDCALL but there is no physical button for that function anywhere 0_o

Good you looked down Now a much easier way is to flash Clockworkmod. With Clockworkmod, you can flash custom roms now if you wish get a custom rom close to stock (MikTouch). When you download it, unzip the rom and make your edits to the /usr folder and rezip and flash.

Questions never, EVER go in development. I don't understand why people still think they should ask questions in the development sections? Oh well.

Giving smartassed arrogant answers to the very people you're asking for help from when all they are doing is telling rules you should ALREADY KNOW will get you nowhere real damned fast!

Respect is earned even for senior members. An arrogant answer is only given to an arrogant response. I obviously made a mistake by posting a question in the wrong section, and I own up to that. but the response given to me by Agent:
check your self said:
was uncalled for. somebody with better ppl skills would have simply said "sorry but i believe you posted in the wrong section. try the q&a thread instead. they can help you out better over there." That could've worked out just fine.
If you actually look at the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192282&page=8 you'll see that I actually did some research b4 posting here. I was scolded by Agent yet again without even attempting to help me out. Another senior member had to step in and come to my defense because they felt that Agent was scolding me without reason.

I'll give you that so TOUCHE'.......BUT that is already very well explained in the rules that is "required" reading before we all start posting. So, people skills are a two way street. JMHO tho........

Thank you xmc wildchild22 for replying to the issue. I just hope your "look down" response isn't referring to the:
[MOD] ( any ROM ) Hardware Key Mapping | Flashable zips & Requests ( GB & ICS )
and the:
[MOD] Re-Mapping Keys (Genius Button to Search - www/com button to TAB) and more..
threads which have already been recommend to me by WeekendsR2Short. their solutions do not address the particular issues I'm posting on this thread. I've been to both of those threads and posted questions and comments concerning similar issues but just not this one which is a bit different.
If your referring to the:
[GUIDE] How to root MT4GS with any HBOOT (updated 07/28/12) or the: "[How To] Flash ICS ROMs with S-ON Unlocked"
then yes I've seen those guides as well but my htc driver refuses to read my phone. Ive installed and reinstalled the latest driver but it still wont recognize the mytouch 4g slide so I cant get to far on those guides. If your referring to another guide I have over looked somehow could you please just post a link instead of just telling me to "look down" since its obvious i'm having a hard time finding the right threads for my issues.

If you will look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1254518 under Doubleshot device drivers, Blue6IX will be able to explain some of the issues you're having much better than me.
I HAVE had some of the same driver issues as you have but if you could just be a little more specific.......
Is it telling you the device isn't found or just sitting there acting like it doesn't even hear you?
btw....you're going to have to look in the lower right corner of your Windows screen and make sure that HTC Sync isn't running.

Thank you for posting that link to Blue6IX's thread I will have to ask questions about my issues with the phone on there as well. To answer your question YES, its acting like it doesn't even know that the phone is plugged into the PC even though the PC is reading the sdcard in my phone. and YES, I was sure to make sure that HTC Sync icon on the lower right corner wasn't running. After doing a little more research I found out that HTC doesn’t support the MyTouch 4g Slide http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/101/p/7603/58720.aspx
Another member also told me that “root access is root access regardless of S-ON or OFF.” I used “Root Checker” to confirm if I had the phone unlocked for root access and I did. So the real question is why can I only gain R/W access in the “/system” folder and not any other when using "root explorer??" is there any other app that can get me to edit the doubleshot-keypad.kl file manually?? or what can i do to fix this error in root explorer??
Your issue with root explorer is a REAL oddty to me. It's something I've never heard of. This may sound simplistic but it could be something as simple as an error downlading the app. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
VERY strange!

Well after doing yet even more research I found a work around solution to my first issue which is to simply install another root program called "Root Browser." It basically has the same functions as "Root Explorer" but it has its own proprietary text editor and the app icon is strangely similar to "Superuser" one. So if any1 else with a Mytouch 4g slide has this problem at least they will know what to do from here.
I guess all that's left is to find a solution for my second issue. Blue6IX hasn't responded to anybody in the forums in awhile so trying to find a solution to the long-press buttons seems like its going to be another up hill battle. Thank you WeekendsR2Short for your responses. :good: I guess nobody else at XDA knows anything about long-press button features, or they don't seem to care :crying:
I know that sometimes it may seem that way Pantherz....but take my word for it, they DO care. They wouldn't be here if they didn't.

adbLink alternatives

Hi Guys, i have two of the 2020 models firestick. I was wondering if there was such thing as an adbLink alternative? Not so long back i remember finding an app that was far superior to the adbLink which let you edit the app permissions, disables and uninstall stock software, etc., but i have looked and cannot find the damn thing. I looked at Fire Toolbox V25.2 which was no good but the app i had for windows 10 not long back was the bee's knees if anyone could help me find this app it would be greatly appreciated. (I have scanned the forum and google but no luck)
Kind regards,
Nick.

IDK if any of these are what you're looking for, but to mess around with Android stuff, I primarily use:
adbLink
adbLink2
Flakie ADBGUI
Fire Toolbox
ADB App Control
I'm thinking ADB App Control comes closest to what you describe.
Hit the nail on the head with ADB App Control. TY, greatly appreciated mate.
Thanks,
Nick.
is ADB AppControl worth buying the license for or is there another app thats worth putchasing guys?
I believe it is worth purchasing the license for ADB AppControl. It's a nice piece of software that has helped me out on several devices, and I think supporting the developer rewards him for his work.
So in your opinion out of all the free / premium adb software this is the one worth paying for? I know it gets updated quite often but i am just making sure there is not something out there that does more, obviously a paid version. Could this unlock firesticks or phones even?
Thanks,
Nick

I haven't tried all the free/premium adb software out there. I downloaded the free version of ADB AppControl and tried it on a Fire tablet, 2 Firesticks, and my phone. It makes things a lot easier using a point and click interface to do many ADB chores. I liked it enough to spend the money on the paid version and unlocked the extra goodies in there. ADB AppControl is rather complete at what it does, and it does it well. It's a general purpose app that is not specific to anything other than Android OS. It's not an unlocker although you can remove or disable restricted software with it, just as you can do using the command line and ADB. I don't know about you, but not having to look up syntax of specific ADB commands is enough for me!
I'm not saying it's the best or that other programs can't do more at specific tasks. I just think it's worth the small price for what it does.
Jim
Hi there, i have bought this product and thanks for your input. I was just wondering where i can find the command line commands so i dont need to look up syntax commands etc?
Thanks,
Nick/

Google is your friend.
Jim
Hi , i thought they where pre installed codes, unless you mean when you can change permissions etc. Is it possible to root anything via this app?
Thanks,
Nick,
Rooting is something beyond the scope of ADB AppControl.
