Hello there!
my first post here...
Recently I have decided to buy a new toy to replace my old nokia garbage.
Till now i have narrowed down to two good ones a)HTC Touch HD T8282 & b)Samsung SGH-i900 aka Omnia. Now the problem is I can't afford both of 'em,so gotta choose one,but both of 'em got great spec. From my noobish research here are the small but highly important differences I've spotted:
Processor:
T8282: 524 MHz
Omnia: 624 MHz
We all know how great impact the processing power has onto overall system performance, here diff. is 100MHz
R.A.M
T8282: 288 MB
Omnia: 128 MB
now then we have 100MB diff. everyone of us know how greatly a slight increase in R.A.M can improve the total system performance
Camera:
T8282: 5MP Auto focus
Omnia: 5MP Auto focus with "flash"
flash is an important feature for any cell with a camera and stuff,a great mega pixel camera can be completely useless in certain conditions without a flash!
Screen Resolution:
T8282: 480x800 WVGA
Omnia: 240x400 WQVGA
I really dont know the diff. between wqvga & wvga, but the fact is omnia got a screen resolu. 1/4th to that of T8282!,we all know how hard it is in these days to find a cell with good resolution and right size, htc did a good job on this and better resolution means better screen readbility for texts and graphics
Screen length:
T8282: 3.8"
Omnia: 3.2"
diff is 0.6" which is great enough for a pda! And compared the width of t8282 is better and resonable in ratio with length than of omnia..
Price:
T8282: pretty much way too expensive
Omnia: resonable relative to its features
Customer Support Centers:
T8282: pretty rare in our country
Omnia: got a bunch around the city
customer support is quite important because with electronics there is no possibility of having "em serving the way expected for long enough
So thats that, other features are pretty much the same to me. Now lemme tell you,am the customizing and moding type, and most of the times voluntering for beta testing with my devices and all,and at the same time would like advanced features and performance, not just like buying and showing off and doing just few calls and sms,i'd expect my devices to perform and be flexible to extensive usage, and better tolerance ,not like you flash your rom and its in R.I.P state like most of my nokias. Anyways much bluffing isnt useful so thats it.
I welcome any and all of you to suggest which of these two will be better for me.Now I cant afford any one of these two and i want the better.
Thank you for wasting your valuable time reading this and giving your most valuable opinion.
(P.s. i dont speak english,so its pretty poor than any of you, please pardon me for that,i'll be grateful, really!)
Touch HD
Had an omnia, nice device, exchanged it for an HD though. The 3.5mm audio socket, stylus housing and more useable screen are all plus points on the HD. The on screen keyboard is actually useable on this device.
Go for HD!
The other device will not have the support of this great forum
ANd design is much nicer
Just my opinion
Well, sorry for being away.. I had some official works out of the city. I just looked into HTC official site for where to buy, went to the nearest one and paid $920. They like told me they are out of stock and will get me within 4 days. I went out of the city for few days then. When back after six days they refused that I really placed any offer, when I showed 'em the pay receipt they were like "!!!!!" and said oh we will not be selling this model anymore so sorry, try taking the HTC Touch Diamond or else, I was like thanks gimme my money back, they gave me like $800 and said the rest 120 is for their extensive offshore order costs!!!!!
Okay so I went to the others and they don't even have any models,so I went to samsung got a i900 and well to say am pretty much happy with it
But anyways thanks for your valuable comments and to HTC please update your site as in your "where to buy" tab lists some of the dealers who really don't stock your products anymore.
i had the i900 for about 3 months nd hated the ;ack of support and the glitchy nature the only saving grace was the 16gb flash memory
but if support and ROM mean a lot switch back lol
Also realise that you are posting on a HTC forum... No offense but maybe a bit of a bias community, btw there isnt a keyboard problem on the omnia, I find it very usable. Although there 'was' (it is turning around) a very limited amount of apps that actually workked on the WQVGA resolution.
@ Antonioffaxii
Were can i find a list of the apps that works on the omnia, iv got one atm, and i know its old, but its all i got so i wana make the most of it, any tips on were to download new opertive system? or games or what ever
Peace

Hey guys... I'm choosing for a new device to buy... to add to my collection... here are the ones I'm choosing... (and please state your comments on why you made what choice)
Sharp W-Zero3:

Hi raymondu999!
Personally I wouldn't choose ether for a phone because of the size. I am currently perfectly happy with my jamin.
But I also like toys and programing for PC and PPC so if I had money to spend and was facing this choice I would go for both!
Despite recent upgrade to the jamin I have no plans to give up my trusty old iPaq 1710 despite of its shortcomings so I say the more the merrier!
Thanks for the comment... Anybody else?
Just a brief glance through both device. I think I would get the sharp. First of all, the MAGIC has 2 LCD screen and both is at QVGA, which will incur unnecessary price increase (though money is not of a concern here, I don't see thet point of having 2 screen) as well as giving the MAGIC a 5mm increase.
However, if you look at the specs, the MAGIC gadgetry is much more 'cooler'. Aside the cool biometric thing, it has VGA out and printing out?! and GPS?! And ironically, is has two video cam but doesn't support 3G system? That is a bit weird.
Anyway, if you were to have a solid unit, I think the sharp would be a good choice, as I think sharp's product would have to of a certain quality. However, if you prefer more to gadget stuff, the MAGIC is quite the gadget for its time. Lets see hows the pricing.

From what I've heard, around $1500-$2000, US
Hi Guys
I have a HTC TyTN which I am using beyond its capabilities. I have upgraded it to WM6 and use a lot of the extra functionality that it contains however, I find it too slow and the screen is to low res. I am also seriously ****ed off with HTC build quality and it now has a fourth hardware issue that I cannot be bothered to return it for. - NO It has not been dropped, in fact its been treated better than an eggshell!
I was originaly looking at replacing it with an I-Mate Ultimate 5150 but I have now heard that they are not being released until November. I can't wait this long. I need a phone that can do all of the following but is NOT made by HTC
runs WM6
has HSDPA/3G
has Bluetooth/Not bothered about WiFi
is faster than this rubbish Samsung 2442A processor at 400mhz
ideally has more than 128meg ram - optional
has an optional extended battery
supports push Exchange email
Last but by no means least, MUST have a 640*480 screen
has a slide out/slide down keyboard
must NOT be made by HTC - no matter how well re-badged it is!
The monstrosity that is the JasJar is simply too big and doesn't support HSDPA anyway. Budget is not too much of a problem but I don't want to go bigger in size than the Ultimate 5150. I will be buying off-contract.
Apart from the I-Mate Ultimates, I can't find any phones to meet this criteria, anyone else know of any? I'm desperate!
Thanks loads in advance for saving my life!
wow you're not asking for much...and limiting yourself to the small (albeit increasing) percentage of the market that is non-HTC isnt helping you. But then again HTC is a product cycle behind everyone else with VGA so no foul...
In any case your pretty well limited to:
Toshiba G900. Everything you want bar the Processor. Has a possibly low Samsung Processor onboard.
beyond that any other devices coming close to that criteria are comprimises
ie GLofish X800, Gigabyte T300 (Like the G900 due for Release soon). VGA screens aren't that all come on at the moment, but are gradually improving, this is certainly the year for them.
Hi
Thanks for that! Looking like the device for me
And yes, im a firm believer of never buying another product from a manufacturer when something I have bought from them has failed repeatedly. From what I understand, i'm not the only one that has a HTC device thats failed over and over again - google tells me this!
Anyway, i've alreadly found this for sale for 379 and that was with my first google!
Thanks again!!
Hi,
I am pretty much on the same boat, although I am reasonably happy with my TyTN... I just want more!
I have been looking at:
- Toshiba G900 - 800x480 screen, only slightly larger than the TyTN
- E-TEN Glofish X500+ - only just saw this in a magazine yesterday, it is supposed to be a 640x480 version of the X500, and it will be sold by Expansys... although its not on their website yet!
Monty: I know how you feel about HTC, which is why I went from BA -> Flame.
My requirements were slightly different. In descreasing order of importance:
At least 3.5" screen. 2.8 - 3.2" screens are too small, both for my eyes and my hands (with stylus).
VGA.
Lightweight and fits in pocket. (Rules out Universal and Athena.)
Portrait-normal form factor. I gotta be able to hold it in one hand and tap the stylus in the other, comfortably.
2.5G. 3G is still new here, and I can live with 2.5G speeds because of what I use it for (ssh).
Bluetooth. No need for GPS or KB if you have BT.
Prefer no keyboard or a hidden slide-out keyboard -- I'll use a soft, USB or BT keyboard instead of a keyboard with keys too tiny for my fingers, which ends up simply increasing the thickness of the device most of the time.
No HTC device satisfies these requirements. Only the XDA Flame does.
The HTC Panda is a throwback since it doesn't have VGA. Otherwise it might be an acceptable alternative when it comes out.
The iMate Ultimate 7150 would be my second choice when it comes out, despite its keyboard (looks hidable and does not increase thickness of device too much).
Until something better comes out, I'll stick with the Flame.

heard? who did u hear it from??
"The highly acclaimed Ultimate range from i-mate will be on offer to customers throughout the region from Sept 2007"
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6461.html
Toshiba G900 has 128M RAM, 128M ROM and a Marvell PXA270 520 Mhz cpu.
It has been released in the UK. The manual is available online - at the Toshiba.co.uk mobile communications site.
Not only is this faster than the SAMSUNG on the TyTN, but is also current Xscale / ARM - the Samsung was two generations out of date ... and generally regarded as end of line long before the TyTN came out.
Imate???? Their customer support SUCKS!!! I've had JasJam for 7months now and have had enough. No phone support. Representatives have NO IDEA what they are chatting about - absolutely no knowledge and noone responds to emails!!!!
Personally I am impressed by the imate ultimate series whenever it is released but I am troubled by their customer support.
For almost 3 months now the clubimate site (Jasjam) page mentions that a newer version of the operating system will soon be released. When I finally got on line with them yesterday the person mentioned that it has already been released. Before I could ask him where it is posted the on line chat disconnected not to be connected again. But I am sure that clown had no idea of what he was talking about.

I dont think that it ll be a vaporware esp when considering the fact that the imate's future depends on them
I've been buying HTC devices every year since the very first XDA came out. Normally its a simple affair, just ring up O2 and order the next model out but there's so many to choose from now and this year I'm just spoiled for choice.
I'm currently using an Orbit which I really love, it has just about everything I need. About the only improvements I would make is 3G, VGA, more memory, faster processor. So whats available? There seem so many to choose from these days.
I know the iphone is a pile of crap but you must admit it looks good. Don't HTC do a similar style i.e. all screen and fewer buttons?
Anyone got any opinions?
Top of the pops at the moment is the Athena but I think it may be too big for my pocket. Is there anything with a similar spec only smaller yet?
How about Orbit II ?
Has everything you want, except VGA display...
400Mhz CPU, 128MB RAM, UMTS/HSDPA, 3MP camera....
Olioaglio
Yep the Orbit 2 will be my next phone.
The iPhone is very very tempting, and regardless of what hardcore WM fans say, its a very fast, fluid interface and is generally what the public want to see from a touch phone, as proved by its massive sales figures,
Buuuuuuuut the orbit 2 has built in GPS, decent 400mhz proccessor, 3G, flush screen, 3MP auto focusing camera, with video, a second smaller camera on the front for video calls, loads of ram. Go for the Orbit 2 for the time been, get the iphone version 2 in a few years as its probly gunna take over the world lol.
I assume we're talking about the Polaris or Touch Cruise?
Didn't realize it was also referred to as the Orbit 2. Does that mean it will be released by O2 in the UK? Any idea when? (I know the Cruise has been put back to mid Jan)
Anyway I've decided to get a second hand Athena for now (no new contract). I've always wanted VGA and TV out. If I can't get on with the size then I'll get the Orbit2 or Cruise when it arrives.
Yeah its the o2's version of the polaris is called the Orbit 2.
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/11/09/o2_xda_orbit_2/ for some screenshots and info. Alot of sites are saying its going to get released 1st quarter of 2008, many are saying January.
Is money is no object there is always this phone.

What's after Artemis/P3300
Hello, I had the same dilemma, I have this phone for a whole year, I never had a phone for so long, but there is nothing really better out there to replace it with.
I thing the best thing if you don't need keyboard is the Cruise, and I guess I'll have to wait for it.
I think it's a good choice because it has all what this phone has plus 3G and flush screen.
The fact that it does not have VGA does not bother me, because VGA at this tiny screen does look better, but you can't really use it in the VGA resolution it's just too small for the eyes. All the other VGA phones just emulate a 320x240 screen, so it looks much nicer, but not more than that.
I tried a whole bunch of phones, I had the iPhone for almost a month, and it is really great, it is fast, smooth, beautiful and great at what it does, but it does not do much, if you are used to use a lot of the functions of the pocket pc you realize that the iphone almost worthless.
I also had the E-Ten x800 lately, I used it for about an hour and got rid of it, it is painfully slow, I couldn't get it to play a movie normally, it does not make sense, it has 520mhz cpu and it is still extremely slow, also I didin't like the way it looks at all. The VGA screen is good but there is no major difference, and I didin't try 3G in it.
I also have the Gigabyte Gsmart i350 right now, it's nice and small, very fast and has VGA screen, it also has GPS, I really like it but the lack of 3G is a real setback, it does not even have edge, only GPRS wich makes it really slow internet browsing.
One more important thing is the company that makes the phones, there is no such good quality as HTC, the build, the feel, and quality of calls, it beats every onther company out there.
Also this site makes me get only HTC phones, there is no such a site with so much support and options for your phone, with so many great people working and helping each other!!!!!
The bottom line is that the Cruise seems to be the best combination of all the features that are out there, VGA would make it a killer of a phone, but after playing with some VGA phones I don't think it makes such a big difference, also a lot of the apps out there don't support VGA screen, I think in a couple of months there will be a much better support for it.
I hope that my little thoughts and mini reviews will help you with your decision.
The Kaiser is great, but if I could do it again or had the bux to spare, I'd go with a Polaris.
I hardly ever use the Kaiser keyboard and the fm radio on the Polaris sounds like an interesting addition. Other than that, the feature sets (between Kaiser & Polaris) are identical.
See pdadb for comparison info.
So my HTC Wizard is getting a little old. And it's poor old CPU isn't standing up to Windows Mobile 6 ROM's very well. And it doesn't support anyhting past EDGE. And I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade. And my sweet BT SouthWing headset sucks on my HTC as soon as I do more than one thing. At the same time, my camera is busted. My girlfriend has a 6 megapixel camera we use for anything important, but I want a decent camera that's always on me.
I think I see a chance to combine some electronics. I'm looking for a beasty WM 6 based PDA. The current PDA I'm most interested in is the HTC Advantage X7510.
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=474
GSM w / solid band support
3.1 MP camera w / flash
BT 2.0
624 Mhz CPU AND ATI gfx chip (<3 cell phone emulators)
16 gig internal flash for my tunes
detachable keyboard
FULL QWERTY KEYBOARD = WIN
Surprisingly sexy for a powerful PDA with a keyboard
This looks like the best one I've found overall. I've heard that HTC has been pretty lousy on implementing the ATI GFX chips, but as far as I can tell that's only on the TyTn II's. It's a little more than I want to spend on a phone, but if it gets the camera in there too then it's sold.
I'm pretty much sold on this guy, only holdup is the cost. I really haven't seen anything that can compete with it, although I found a lot of new companies today poking about. Anybody know of any brands I should look at, or have anything negative to say about this guy?

well if you really want the x7510 then you should buy an x7500 and put ap4 on there. than its like having the best of both worlds plus you get all the buttons that you dont get with the 7510
7510 is a good choice only if you intend to use it notebook style. If you use it tablet style, then 7500 or 7501 are better. 7510 does not have the a few of the hardware buttons that the older models have, and this is extremely limiting for table style users. Many users find it more convenient, more portable, and easier when using it table style.
BTW, 7500 and 7501 are lighter and cheaper too. The only drawback is the microdrive instead of SSD, but not a serious drawback. Capacity itself is not an issue for most of us, I believe. I only use about 1 GB out of the 8GB with all my programs installed there. All my large consuming files are on microSDHC, which can be swapped in and out at will so there is no practical limit on the effective capacity. Microdrive is a lot faster than microSDHC, although it consumes more power.
The answer is also in the new product cathegories from HTC marketing department ( www.htc.com ) :
They have :
TOUCH phones (From TOUCH to DIAMOND)
PDA phones (From P3300 to TyTN II)
Smartphones (From S310 to S730)
Mobile Computers (Advantage>Shift)
The strategy seems clear: WHAT DO YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ? :
Trendy and WOW effect PDA PHONE? (Play device with phone?) TOUCH product Line
A Powerfull Companion in your PHONE? (Biz device with phone?) PDA Phones Product Line
Lightweight but powerfull PHONE? (Phone for yor Digital Lifestyle?) Smartphones product line
Mobile computing (Mobile PC always on with SOME phone capabilities?) Mobile Computers product line
I agree with you we would like to have them ALL in a single device but....
I have PDA, SMartphone and Mobile computer, and I fully agree with this scenario. A clear idea (or a good help) and you will be really happy of the chosen device. Chose the wrong category for your purpose and you will sell it in few weeks (losing money )
HTC is out from a dark age now, time to buy stock quotes IMHO!
I'd go for an X7500 unless you can get a 7510 susidised. I use about 6Gb of my Microdrive and about 3Gb on my card but you can always expand with bigger cards.
Good luck!

Interesting comments, really appreciate the feedback. So, a few things.
1. I haven't really found a good comparison or general video yet of any of the advantage models. I'll keep the keyboard difference in mind. As for the keyboard usage, how is it for texting? I've been pretty happy with the keyboard on my Wizard, but I'm open to something new. I just refuse to go back to not having a QWERTY keyboard. I'd buy the Diamond, but HTC doesn't get how awesome QWERTY texting is appearantly.
2. Looking at the Advantage, I don't see any buttons on it that would be especially good for gaming, especially anything like the pad on a Wizard / TyTn II. Am I missing something, or can I expect to have my PocketNesterness hampered by an Advantage?
3. Thanks for the info on the 7500/1 vs 7510. Looking at the specs page, I noticed the 7500 lists two cameras while the 7501 only has one. Is this the case? I'd just be giving up the VGA camera for voice calls, which I've never used anyways, but I guess it could be nice if I get to an area with better than EDGE service. Also, is the X7510's camera much / any better?
4. I've done a good bit of flashing / light bit of cooking with my Wizard. About how much harder is an advantage to reflash?
5. 8 gigs would be a considerable upgrade for me, I've been getting by on a 4 gig MiniSD that my Wizard only picks up about 3.7 gig of. Assuming I used a gig internally for pics, GPS, etc, I'd still have twice the capacity on HD alone vs my card.
Glad to get some input, got ignored at HowardForums.
Hmm... actually, saw some better pics of the Advantage. There is clearly no "D-Pad" like the PDA-style phones get. LAME.
Back to the drawing board. Kaiser's in the lead, AT&T owes me a discount phone since I bought my own hardware to the table. Too bad it doesn't have a flash.

We play soccer here, 2-1 is the score, and the winners are ...HERMES-KAISER!
1) ATHENA's kb haven't any backlight, hard to use without a stable surface. Big screen means BIG on screen Kb too, but for texting ATHENA Kb isn't really good in standing situation, in the car, on the bus.... WORST comparing it with the HERMES or KAISER
2) Many games aren't usable in a VGA device. I don't know about emulators but less buttons mean less control! WORST comparing it with the HERMES or KAISER
3) Yes, it is. No, don't.
4) Just the same complexity and risks as Kaiser or Hermes
5) Yes, but are built IN. I prefer to have DATA on SD, to manage with the PC utilities, to share data with friends... but, yes BETTER than HERMES or KAISER
HOFO?
Believe me: for a "texter" and "gamer" ATHENA is a nightmare!
Yeah, that's what I'm seeing so far. I might settle on a Kaiser, looks like those are pretty well hacked, and I can get one for like $100 refurb'd through AT&T. I'm gonna see if I can scrounge up a deal on that I-Mate tho, no flash on the camera has repeatedly pissed me off with my Wizard.
On a different note, how is WM6 on a 400 Mhz processor? I'm using a Wizard OC'd to 216Mhz on a custom WM6 rom, and alot of stuff is SLOOOOW. Granted, even a Kaiser would more than double my phone power, but just curious.
Hey guys, I think it's getting obvious the Athena isn't for me. I'm gonna head over to the Kaiser forum and see what I can see. Thanks for the help.
I reviewed a few new devices in pdadb.net today and felt jealous.
the TG01 is obviously a stronger device than any HTC device in the market.
There are actually only two reasons to why i can't purchase it (and why i bought an HD second hand from a member of xda-devs). The reasons are that there's no Xda-devs support for non-HTC devices and that the battery is 1000mA (which is nothing less than pathetic).
Being an active member of Xda-devs makes it impossible to even think of other devices (and while it sounds like it's a bad thing, we all know it is impossible to support all devices in the world). the iPhone feels like a joke and while the TG01 feels like god, without software perfection, ROM cooking, direct device support.. theme and skin creation.. modding.. and so forth, I would feel naked having a device which isn't supported by the biggest PDA community in the world.
I wish HTC figured out it's mid 2009 and upgraded.
I mean.. ****.. a 1000Mhz processor is a freaking stable pentium 3 (by the way, the most stable processor ever presented (electronicallywise) is considered to be the pentium 3 1000). Having a 4.1 screen on a device which isn't much larger than the HD.. is very thin... good looking.. is like a dream. If not only for saying I don't have a Qualcomm processor.. i'd get the TG01.
From here on.. it's all tragedy. It's somewhat of an analogy to not being able to buy a perfect device because your network doesn't support it.
To be completely honest, I think it's a disgrace that the Touch HD runs on a 528Mhz processor instead of a 628.. and that the Rhodium and Diamond 2 have the same one.
Anyways.. just pointing out the obvious.
Think of the first device you ever had. Think of how it was before you first got involved with this forum.. and think of the after image.
Think of the second device you bought.. and do the same.
...........the day i stepped into this place, i virtually got married. for bad or for good.
mostly for good.
i kinda feel the same way but i am looking at the new Toshiba model with a keyboard.
well there is always my site.
i'm not buying the Toshiba TG01 cus it a freaking BRICK!
we got to stop buying their freaking BRICK!
otherwise they going to make cellphone BIGGER AND BIGGER!
how about TG01+, it' only .5" bigger, .....at 4.6" screen.
then TG01++, it' only 1" bigger! ............ at 5.6" inches!
then SUPER TG01 only 1.3" bigger!.....at 7" screen!
if we dont stop buying their junk, they going try to sell you a 7" cellphone! haha
All you really miss out on are the roms. Almost everything else is somewhat universal
I agree though, the battery capacity is half of what mine is and the phone is 5 times as fast with a bigger screen. Very lame.
Thickness is more important than the other 2 dimensions, IMO. It's not a brick cuz it's actually thinner than the iphone.
Dont worry future is orange lol

I wish I could be more appreciative and less critical of the level of elitism that is now being shown by XDA-DEVS but.....its evolution lol
I have been around here since....2003 or something (viewing) - since I got my original SPV and my mate had an original XDA - what a marvel of tech they were lol....and things have swung right around.
I remember being a modaco member and being much more active over there as XDA - DEVS was not such a user forum but more of a dev forum. Buzz lightyear and co made waves and I(we - most people) surfed along - downloaded and experienced as opposed to inputing lol....
Back then HTC were the ONLY (in general) company that made decent PDA's - they were the only company that actually sold them through service providers in the UK and so had a complete strangle hold on the MArket. If you wanted a GSM windows mobile then you had to get an XDA/MDA/SPV - all HTC......
Now things are different in many many ways.
XDA devs is now as much a user forum as a Dev forum.
How many times do you see rude people dissing newbies - dont post here dont ask - Are you stupid why cant you search etc. Pointless elitism. Just help if you can or shutup maybe lol? Of course Ban trolls.....
Also Windows mobile phones are now available from a number of carriers all from different manufacturers......
So, when I got my Omnia (now sold, back to WM 6.5 HTC advantage/N95 8GB combo) I was naturally shocked to hear that XDA were refusing to have a device section for it.....
I was baffled - Omnia is the best small Win mobile device I have ever used in terms of all round ability. It has spot on hardware, very good media capabilities.
Many many users here got one and wanted a device section. It almost destroyed my faith in the device as I realised the level of commaraderie and support would not exist (so I thought)
There were polls and questionaires etc - everyone wanted OMnia to have its own section but it wouldnt come.......
I used to think that HTC paid XDA devs and actually gave us all more rights than others when it came to new builds and ROMS etc.....but now I realise that HTC were the Pioneers and there was no point having a site dealing with win mo specific (not HTC specific) as HTC WERE WINDOWS MOBILE!! When people used to search for Win mo it was either for IPAQ or XDA as that was ALL THERE WAS widely available.
Then I realised that XDA devs is not all there is to the world of Windows Mobile.......there are many many forums with huge numbers of devs all churning out ROMS
So what I am getting to here - is that the hardware should be our driving force! We should get the best hardware wise devices and all work together where - ever we have to and apply the fixes and builds from here - to other devices!!
www.omnia.com (or similar) is a great resource and it willl only get better. I expect the same for all new gen devices. We are the users. We are the drivers. If enough people all buy TG01's and club together to buy one for example CMONEX/MITCHYPRIMA or who ever (someone interested in the device lol) then we will get ROMS and the future is orange.
So get a TG01 (- me too if Omnia HD and N97 are both pointless, I can see no reason to get a touch pro 2 - where is my 3.5"?? Where is my direction pad? - duh!? -)
God damn it we will start a forum together club in buy some devices and flash until I am bored or happy.....
Toshiba and Samsung sales must be looking over here and saying to them selves - this type of community is the future, it drives sales for the platform.
Hopefully a bigger all in one Windows Mobile forum will start somewhere that will garner support from all users here and all other locations.....
We are all getting more out of Windows mobile as we rip from device to device........seems logical the next step is to include all manufactureres....
What I don't like about HTC is thier market policy. I'm not the type who is going to buy an expensive device with an expensive contract. I want to buy my phones from real, authorised distributors, just like I do with all the PC parts I use in the PCs I sell. Getting an HTC device here in Hungary is way too expensive right now.
is there no chance of having a forum dedicated to non-htc devices? because if the superstar can't match up well against the tg01, i'm going with the tg01. and i'd hate to lose this great wealth of knowledge here
Well, nvidia will make sure that snapdragon won't be better (if not then. At least in 3D and watching videos with anything other than WMP
If the community is strong enough it will make it's own forum.
I would buy the TG01, hopefully some other site will support the ROMs for it, but I'm stuck between it and the Omnia HD . . .

That "junk" is, currently, the only phone to have an 1 GHz Snapdragon... Which, in my real-world H.264 decoding tests, have turned out to be at least 50% faster than 624 MHz XScale CPU's. That is, it has a LOT of computing power.

All you really miss out on are the roms. Almost everything else is somewhat universal

i just saw some1 on costco wearing Iphone on belt clip, that thing is big, that is not sexy! this TG01 will make u even more ugly! haha
I love big screens! 2.8" VGA screens hurt my eyes, and 3.5-4" is the sweet spot for size versus clarity. A thin device with a small bezel and a 4" wide screen can still fit in a pocket.
eh i kinda like it, sure it is big but i stick my phone in my back pocket so as long as it fits...lol. but really wow it has six more stand by hours than the viva but three less talk time. seems like you would be charging it every day.

If you like small screens, why not appeal to HTC to make some 2 inch ones specially for you? I think that most of us like bigger screens cuz we're cool like that.
The PPC big screens are great for GPS, Movies, Internet, Touch, Pics, etc...with them I don't have to carry around a PC laptop! That's why the HD, Iphonie, and soon the TGxx are the most popular devices.

I am a fan of clamshell type devices, so having a big device is a trade off. I don't mind a big device as long as it will still fit in a big pocket or pouch. I agree that a 7 inch screen is too big. I believe it should not be bigger than a 5 inch screen, it can be made a little longer though.

I think 5 inch is proably stretching it if you want it as a phone (as in hold it to your ear).
The TG01 is already pushing, but slimness helps. If you had a device same size as TG01 but less of it is border, then you would effectively have 4.5 inch maybe.

For those of you who are a bit younger, I should also point out that back in the 90s, ALL devices were HUGE and where weighting more than 1 kilo
