[Q] Why does some radios work very good with specific roms ? - General Questions and Answers

Hey,
I'm actually with the rom Mondilv, and i tried the latest radios for raphael and BS, but it drains the battery very fast whereas some people says they have long battery (with diff roms)?
There are different reports...Why that ?
Thank's !

Based on my experience it depends a lot with the cell provider on how good signal are you getting, if is a bad signal your battery will be drained faster.
I think it´s more to do with this than with the ROM (Maybe I can be mistaken)
But that´s my experience

all the same
Which Radio and Rom use the other Uni??? Any other Installed Software differences??
-they have same
RADIO=1.18
ROM=luca's vanilla 23016.5.3.0
same applications and programs installed..
in short identical UNI..
Same here some time ago.
Solution: My RSS-feed-reader tried to connect every 5-10 minutes. Even the Uni was closed. So the batts were empty in about 1 day.
Maybe you have a programm like mine...

thanks for your help CHOSEN_ONE....but the programs i have on my two uni were all stock or i should say pre-installed software from luca's rom...and i think none on its programs or software are draining my battery fast..it so happen that only on that specific uni it drains fast...but the other it last more than a day..
experimental solution
1. ive downgraded my radio from 1.18 to 1.11
2. configured activesync option for server connection..ive switched the connection manually under the schedule option..
as a result it somehow slows down the draining time..but it is still under observation..i will just post here my findings as soon as i get some good results..
thanks for all those who helped me out so far..

Radio definitely one important point for Battery, second is the band wide 3G/GPRS. Setting your uni to 3G will sure use more power. The age of the hardware (screen, and others) may also effect your power consumtion.. I dont remembr but here in this forum is a tool to check power consumtion per mA..you may look in to that

thanks for your help sir..
im using 1.11 radio instead of 1.18 (experimental solution)
im also using the GSM band not the 3G/UMTS (not using 3G eversince)
the hardware version of my uni thats draining fast is G4..
i also have a G3 and another G4 which works fine with 1.18 radio..
if i do have a time i will search for that consumption per mA thing...
my uni is now working fine..

Comparitions among available ROMs

Hello Defy fellows!
I'm new here and to all Android ROM flashing thing. I own a Defy for a couple of weeks now, it runs Android Éclair and I'm looking forward to put on a nicer ROM on it. It is my first Android smartphone, I've come from a sad Symbian 2.3 Nokia.
So: I'm not familiar with any of the ROMs that lots of users here have been playing around and I believe that there could be really interesting inputs for the interested who are new to those developments.
I've been reading on the procedures and what's involved to flash new ROMs to the Defy and I couldn't help to notice that there are quite a few custom ROMs available.
I wonder which ones are the most stable and reliable. Also, which ones have the best performance and deliver higher battery autonomy. I would not like much experimental things, but mostly one with less bugs and problems, to carry on with it and don't bother for a while, until there is a major update or something.
I will use it here on Brazil and I expect it to not lose any functionality regarding GSM, 3G and GPS. I don't know exactly what is involved on this aspect and what are the limitations but I can say to you that my network uses 850 and 2100 MHz for 3G and 1800 MHz for GSM.
It should also support portuguese, even that there's just the spelling dictionary.
I'm sorry if there are dumb questions above, I simply don't know what can be a problem if I change the native ROM to a customized/tweaked one.
I believe that there are patches to do almost anything, but I would like to not need to worry about how to fix issues on my phone's system...
At first, I am tempted to get the main CM7 ROM but I'm creating this thread really to explore the differences and comparisons among the available options.
I am also strongly considering undervolting/overclocking the CPU
Looking forward to your thoughts!
Regards!

looking against the light I see green and yellow shinning... and Catlog reports is as being Bayer.
But that's ok, I wont rely that much on which color it seems to me without having something different on my other hand to compare with.
So, you have Bayer Yellow lens.
Well, thanks...
I didn't even know that there were a third color for the lenses....
But I think that isn't important , its all about the module, Bayer or SOC.
i will recomend you to use ms2ginger... it's a fully operational rom with gingerbread + motoblur, can record at 720p (HD), it's fast and have dlna option to share things with pc, laptops and LED tv.... ohh, it's have support for portuguese language too

As I see, here two common options for you:
I will vote for Barebones Froyo,
-stable Froyo, have no bugs
-without Blur
-best battery (1-2% per night, 2-3 days of average using 3g
-you can overclock it with bootmenu preinstaled
-as good bonus, u'll have many other little things which will make your every day use more enjoyable (720p playing, widescreen recording etc)
CM7 - bleeding edge, you'll have latest software, and latest bugs.
Actually, for me, CM7 give no advantage in every day use.
Someone will say perfomance, but its only syntetic tests (cheating), you'll have no real improvments, cuz hardware stays same.
You've given me an idea.
Would it be useful if I made a spreadsheet/googledoc listing all available roms which os they using, stable, major bugs etc?
what is ms2ginger?

check yourself....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
If u need better battery life(in stand by mode) u must use Barebones froyo ROM.
If u need better performance u can consider using WIUI or cm7.
If u need more new feature u can use cm7.
If u need more moto staff u can use ms2ginger.
For me I am using WIUI and i would say it is a great rom if u like miui's interface and the battery life is good for me(1-2 days) also I don't need new features except crystal talk plus . But I guess MIUI's guys will be add it soon.
My friends, thanks for the replies so far!
Can you enlighten me on what are these tweaks that gets better performance for CM7 over barebones?
As I understood, ms2ginger has the motoblur thing, right? I don't care much about it and I think that I probably would be happier without it as I believe it impacts considerably on the overall performance.
Comparing CM7 and MIUI, which are the most elementary differences?
Sorry for the lots of questions, but there it is hard to someone new keep track on all those developments.
Don't forget to give a try to MS2Ginger, it's a very good ROM and it's in RC2 phase. It has very good battery perfomance and also gives you 720p recording and the new motoblur. Right now it's the ROM I am using and I feel very good with it.
miui
why no one say something bout MIUI?
i've been using it since i got my Defy.
and so far, its a great ROM and nice also.
and good to showoff to iPhone fag

CM7 have no moto staff that improve performance also gingerbread have a better performance. I guess CM7's developers optimized drivers to get much better performance over CM7. MIUI is base on CM7 so there are no much difference of performance. The differences of CM7 and MIUI is they use the different shell(you can read as UI) and also MIUI doesn't use the latest source of CM7 so it may have more bugs and do not have some newest features. I perfer WIUI (mod of MIUI) because it is stable and it's easy to use
Barebones is really insane in battery life !!! it has been 12 hours ..... since and still i m on 90% but though it seems that the older or newer sim it really has a greater impact on battery life .... older seems eats up quickly whereas newer sim they use a lot less battery

can confirm the sim effect...i too have lot better battery life after change of sim...am on bbfroyo...amazing rom...15 hours..lot of smses...few calls...an hour of chess plus quite a bit of aimless playing around with the phone...still 78% battery left...amazing
kevin_diu, thanks for the answer, I was wondering on this kind of relation between them...
Wouldn't it be possible to get the same shell as MIUI while using CM7?
joydeep1985, that is really incredible if you get that much battery from this smartphone. How's the performance on it?
I just don't get the sim issue, what is that?
Confused!

Wow! BB Froyo 157 gave me 12 hours of life from 100%-0% I can't believe how all of you get so much battery life! I'm back on WIUI and I get 18 hours from full to zero now.

[Q] Battery Drain with CM 7.2.0 (fjfalcon's) of 19.03.2012

This ROM is really AWESOME!! Everything is running great for me. But the battery is draining twice as fast. Anyone had this problem???
Before, I had the khalpower ROM (froyo) and I used to get 2 days of battery. After the upgrade, I only get less than 24 hours with the same usage.
Battery usage gives: 36% for Cell Standby, 22% for Phone Idle and Display is 12%.
Any ideas?
Tks
Anybody??
PS: I configured everything to save battery but I only get 24h at max.

How long is battery life in cm9 ? because I have only 1 day too with cm7.
Wow, CM9 save more battery than CM7? It's awesome. I'll try it tonight
Can choosing a wrong stock SBF to begin with cause the problem? Say you're in Singapore/India and first flash US cin-bell or Russian sbf. The baseband etc updated as per the country's settings. And consumes more battery. Does this theory stand at all?

You can change baseband with openrecovery-XT720 (It is not necessary a new SBF)
Have you changed provider? When I change my phone-sim from different provider I note different consumption.
There's another part of the baseband (bpsw) that can't be flashed in OR (at least not easily--I figured out why a few months ago, but haven't bothered fix it). Generally, the intent of the baseband updates in OR is to get the ROM portions to match the installed bpsw. But peshovec has convinced me that the baseband updates aren't really doing anything on XT720 because we have only one flavor of GSM on all stock devices (for comparison, A853 has a few different ones). So, I no longer think baseband matters.
Stupid things just seem to happen when you have low signal and an occasional low signal problem may have nothing to do with your phone. Reproducibility is the key here. I started using llama and now pay attention to which tower I'm connected to. For example, at my house in the same chair I can be connected to any of four towers and problems usually occur when I'm connected to a particular one (which happens very rarely). The format of that tower's identifyer code is quite different from the other three so I suspect it's a different model and/or generation.
Anyway, my experience on CM7 is that background processes churn like crazy (constant killed, restart cycles)--and that's what I think causes the problem. I haven't found how to address that though, and in my experience things like supercharger tend to make it worse. It's really weird because I remember a time when CM7 had better battery life than CM6... and I can't pinpoint what changed.
Has anyone compared with peshovec's? There are more of nadlabak's A853 256mb device tweaks in that one.
Try installing "BATTERY CALIBRATION" from the market and follow the instructions. It works for me. I'm using CM9.
To manage the constantly "auto"run apps , you can use gemini app manager , it could change the autorun status of an app . Now there is no more app that can autorun in background without my permission

[Q] Roms & Batery Life

Hi, mitchel0 here, quick question,
Do different roms have different affects on battery life? If so, is there a place I can look to find what roms have the best battery life? Would major roms like CM10 have the best battery life? Sorry if these questions are redundant, I am running Codename android on my ATT HOX, and I am satisfied with everything this rom brings to the table, but the battery life, so if anyone can shed some light on this topic, it'd be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed: thanks!
P.S, could flashing a different kernel help my battery life?

Sense will have better battery life in most cases
Have you tried using a battery optimizers app like juice defender or easy battery saver?
I'm running easy bat saver and I'm getting x1.8 extra battery. But I also keep my mobile network off unless I leave the house out of range of ny router.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
There is no good answer to your question. For every ROM that people claim to have "best" battery life, you will also find people that have miserable battery on the same ROM. Just too many variables in how people use their phones.
Also, radio usually has more to do with battery life than ROM. If you are having battery issues, try a different radio.
Thanks guys. One more question now, will different radios affect my coverage? Like will I get better service with one but worse with another?

Possibly. Or you may see no difference at all.
Battery drain may be due to poor reception, if the phone is constantly trying to connect to the network. The right radio can sometimes fix both the reception and the battery drain.
But don't expect a miracle. Differences can sometimes be subtle, if even noticeable.

Andromadus vs. Jellytime vs. PACman vs. Pure CM10

Hello,
at the moment i am using Jellytime. For now i am happy with this, but i think the battery life could be just better. So which rom from above offers you the best battery lifetime?
im using pacman.. the battery life is good.. i can use the phone the whole day(surfing, internet, texting, music...).. i always plug my phone in before going to bed, and i still have around 10% left

Me too. Battery life is very short using Pacman v18.0, at most 5 hours. The screen is the process that consumes more battery. Maybe it is only a my problem, but with Fallout v.5 I didn't have this problem (but others :laugh.
Well I find the battery life good on pure CM10.
If it wasnt for the graphics glitches when browsing, it'd be a really good ROM!
I have installed Pacman v18.0 about 3 days ago and am very impressed with the ROM. No problem with battery life but one major problem with the phone randomly going into Sim Lock mode. Could be after 5 minutes, could be after 5 hours and sometimes while just using it.
PACman, way to go.
I'm using Andromadus CM10.1 and battery is good...Overall is good except Bluetooth that doesn't work yet...

Mine has about an hours worth of battery...
For now I'm switching to my sense rom
On the latest build (build 10) of Andromadus 10.1 I found that the bluetooth was fixed!
Overall, at this time, I believe that the 3 andromadus ROMs are by far the best Jellybean effords!
Thank GOD I got here...
Could someone help me with rom that includes these features?
1. The official ics look (nexus ics)
2. That includes all apps like the sensed ics got. (fM radio, voice recorder, youtube etc)
3. My wifi doesnt turn on when i use any custom rom It just says "Turning on wifi" for the whole day.
4. The settings tab normal (not the tablet type like pacman got)
....
Thanks

some people prefer to UV their kernels. Some people don't prefer. Some kernels allow UV, some don't. see it all comes down to preference,of course UV also may cause performance to decrease. so it stills come down to preference.

That still isn't answer for a question from first topic... "So which rom from above offers you the best battery lifetime?".
It's just general deviation about the opportunities offered by kernels...

Hmm, when ppl say try it yourself, it simply means that u would have to flash the rom to know what's best for u.
Everyone uses his/her phone differently, so basicly there is no ideal rom that pleases everyone.
Everyone will you give a different opinion in terms of battery/speed/etc. That's why it is a bit pointless in asking what's the "best rom" for the other person when the usage is different.
So no point having second doubt and just flash the phone, try every single rom, i have flash from sense to cm to ics and now back to gb.
Go ahead and experiment the roms for yourself. Today someone might give u a suggestion, the next day a another. that's why it is consider pointless in asking such question as 'which is the best can u recommend me' and much better to try it for yourself instead of being shortchange in case there is another better than that is being suggested.
Camera Issue

Is there any work around for this??
