I am looking for an app that will close and shutdown the app when you click the X button instead of minimizing.. I know on the 8125 there was Smartskey, but that doesnt seem to work on the 750...
Anyone know what will work?
Well i dunno what is wrong with your smartkeys, but im running smartkeys and it works like a charm...there is a link in the 750 wiki...htc-x button also work...check it out...
Why bother with smartkey? The Ok button is remappable to any app. Just install any task manager and map the OK button. Smartskey will waste the right softkey on a press-and-hold.
I mapped the OK (press) to iLauncher's close function. I mapped the OK (press-and-hold) to ilauncher's task manager. Nice functionality.
yeah i guesss you can do that...but i thought you are not able to assign anything to the soft keys anyways...
I mapped DinarSoft HandySwitcher to the Ok button. Works great
Mapping?

Hey guys, im actually really stumped on this one.. i cant seem to find any Task manager that works on WM6.5 for my Atom Life. I used to use WKTASK and Quickmenu but now i wanna keep the honeycomb cause it runs really smooth on this new build and WKTASK screws up everything to be honest lol. I'm just wondering if you guys have any solutions?
PS: I'm trying out pBAR 1.4 and its not that great on wm6.5.. not very finger friendly.
Isn't there one in WinMo 6.5 already?
Maybe try the HTC one from the Diamond, there's a topic somewhere with all HTC application download links.

What problems are you having with WK Task and Quick menu ? I used both with Josh's Kaiser roms, and both worked well.
Well WKTASK just seems to kill my start menu after maybe 3 or so minutes.. So as long as WKTASK is running, my WM6.5 Honeycomb startmenu OR the Quickmenu startmenu will not open. its weird really.. and im using chrisch's atom life wm6.5 ROM 21202. Also the HTC manager doesnt seem to do anything on my device... nothing at all.. it installs.. i can access the settings but it doesnt show up on the OS itself. so its pretty much useless at this point (ive tried different versions).
yeah, I have the same issue as well...
For wm6.5 the best task manager for me is the HTC task mananger (at least for now). It integrates well to the new interface of wm6.5

What is twolfs fix for wktask? Can you give me the link?

add \window\shell32.exe as an excluded app
colours are still messed up, hopefully the Wktask guys will update it to cope with the 6.5 theme system soon..
I have set all my colors to black in wktask and now it´s looking quite good.

TaskSwitch
I wan't to share the fastest alt+tab program i found (faster than SPB). It's freeware, don't know where i found it. Displaytime can be configured in registry.
I mapped it to single click on the start button, works perfect! (long hold shows startmenu)
The absolute best task manager app I've found is from FDC Soft. Here is the link.
Guy's,
Since WkTask task manager is not updated for a long time and is not perorming well on WM6.5 platform.
Please suggest some of good alternatives, it will help to get the right task manager for future (WM6.5) builds.
Cheers
QuickMenu
I have always used QuickMenu. Before anyone says anything - I don't replace the main Start Menu, but use it with it. (Make sure 'Replace system's start-menu is unticked). Also in the 'Menu Items', I only have 'Running Tasks', 'QuickMneu' and 'Programs'. The latter I set to Custom folders, which simply contains 'New SMS' and 'H-V Switch'.
The reason why I use it, is because it doesn't hide the text of the toolbar, which is important for some programs I run (eg, it displays how many characters used/left in an SMS message). And if I want to switch tasks, I simply click on the StartMenu logo. The normal StartMenu is simply obtained by pressing next to it (see attach #1).
You see, it's all in the way you set it up.
attach #2 and #3 show what happens when you click on StartMenu logo. You can then go to (or close) any task task you wish. You can even close all other tasks (except the one you've got at the front). You can add your own programs.
If you really want, it can replace the main StartMenu, but I tend not to like this.
QuickMenu 2.8en (website|download)
Quickmenu is handy indeed but it is finger/thumb -hostile. The fastest ever is aebutton plus task manager. It is not free unfortunately.
If you want finger friendly, howabout WKTaskSwitcher which thingonaspring used in his ROM? or is that just a wkTask variant? It was launched via the light button, and then I think you just chose your app (from a selection of icons on the screen).
(I must admit, though, that I didn't prefer it myself ).
Weird, WkTask works perfectly on my WM6.5

QuickMenu is just as finger friendly as the Start Menu!
darfri, just wondering if you have a Uni - it's the first time I've seen you on this part of the site, and there's not one in your signature?

Well, wktask has issue with image transparency, it simply can't handle new styled taskbar under wm65.
QM has no issue with that but it is making conflict with honeycomb. Only htc task manager performed well on all these aspects but its memory footprint is non-tolerable.
Anyway, I'll use htc if no better alternative is discovered.

No I do not have uni. I am using an rss reader to catch up with the xda and read all the new threads. That is how I happen to be here. I think this is not an uni-only problem btw (the wktask slowness ofcourse might be more device specific).
What abou PBar?

I used it when no task manager was available in the ROM.

Actual I am using on my HD2 Dutty´s Taskmanager to switch between apps, but I am searching for a fingerfriendlier app. I already tested showcase but I think this app slow down my HD2.
So I want to ask you which one do you use/prefer on your HD2. Please give me your feedback.

I couldn't get Dutty's to work for me, so I can't comment on it. I did, however, get the TouchX Taskmanager working, and much prefer that as it's basically the task manager that I was used to from my Diamond & HD.
If you want that, it's in the 1st post of this thread...

That's an excellent thread, full of tweaks and tips.
Thanks for your reply. I have already tested TouchX´s Taskmanager and its the same like Dutty´s. I am searching for more fingerfriendlier app like showcase.

Xtask.. not the prettiest and maybe not the easiest to use at first but it works..
no install..
so you need to:
extract it, run the exes, press the two down arrows on the menu that pops up,
then choose "other" and "settings" and have a play (such as disable take over start menu)
similar style icons to wktask across the top, X button remapping in 6.5.x screen resizing in the same.
And almost as much power as fdc taskmanager.
It's great I love it
ideally set a shortcut to it in startmenu/programs, so you can set it to long press send button.
Another one
Personnaly, I use MobilityFlow Touch Commander (only the task manager) wich is really fingerfriendly.
Hope it helps.
Franky
I suggest this one, I think that is the best taskmanager and works perfect on HD2:

This cab happens to be the sony ericson task manager (I'm quite convinced it's the one from the X2), if I am correct ...
Definitely a great task manager, but I think it's pretty similiar to the one from HTC ...
- with (at least it feels like) better performance and more information
- but without the percentage of used ram being shown as in HTC's

Exactly it is the X2 task manager and I think is Great, much better than the one from HTC. It shows: telephone memory (total in use, free), total memory (total in use, free), memory card (total in use, free), sim contacts (total in use, free), sms on sim.
Also shows every working application and you can terminate it

Hi!
I don't like the default WM 6.5 "honeycomb" start menu. Would it be possible in some way to use the Sense 2.5 program picker (the one used for adding programs to the quick launch list in manila 2.5) as a program launcher? And ideally even bind it to the windows hardware button?
Regards,
PK
sorry, don't know how to do that (although it would be nice)
however -- quickmenu is a useful alternative -- and it can be assigned to the hardware "win" key...

I'm doing this exact program mate. It will need to be run in conjunction with Co0kie's Home Tab v1.7+ though, and that's not released yet.
It'll be out within the next couple of weeks though, unless anything changes.
The only thing it won't do is bind to the windows button, but you could just put it as a quicklink on your home tab instead.

Nice! I hope its the one with the "matrix" layout.
But why isn't it possible to bind it to the w-button. Is it a design decision? Or is it a implementation contraint?

Have you tried it? I did, and it did not seem to work properly. Only slowed down everything. I tried installing on the latest x-treme ROM (6.5.x). Both the windows soft button and tha hardware button stopped working after install.
