I'd like to do an esn swap on a treo pro. I don't imagine this is possible yet, but in case it is, what do I need to do, or what needs to be done in order for this to be possible?

**I'm not sure if this is the correct place for my question; please forgive if I got it wrong***
I bought a Chinese Hero clone off of eBay (item #180499296099) and it doesn't recognize my US AT&T SIM card, nor will it allow me to choose the AT&T Network under "phone settings." Well, it allows me, but won't keep the choice. The SIM is seated & locked in properly in the Hero clone & it works fine on my Nokia E71. I even went and got a new one from AT&T. Any advice on how I can make this work? Will rooting the phone help me in this situation?
The seller is working with me on this and willing to reimburse if necessary, but I really want to make sure I tried everything to make it work. Believe it or not, I really like WinMo 6.5. Everything else on the phone works fine.
Hi there, the term "Root" only applies to android phones, as this is a WM device, there is no equivelent. the selller may be able to swap it out under warranty (?)
Goodluck
PS, Good Sig
Oh, I see. Do you think installing a different ROM would help? The seller is willing to take it back.

Have you tried a SIM card from someone else? It sounds like a hardware problem to me. I think your best bet (as the poster above said) is to get a replacement/ warranty repair.
it might, but you might want to try a hard reset firs
Yeah, I went and got a new SIM from AT&T. Same thing...
maybe it's SIM locked?
Hey there, so I have a fairly generic question to ask. I've searched but I don't think anyone's brought this up before. So, I have AT&T and am eager to get a smartphone. Preferably something android, however the requirement for the monthly data plan fee makes it a bit beyond my reach. My question is this, could you use a ROM to make a phone lie about it's identity? I'm unsure how the carrier knows exactly, but I put my SIM card in a WM 6.5 phone a few months back and I received a text message saying my plan was instantly upgraded. My thought is if perhaps two phones, one Symbian, non-smartphone, and one smartphone use similar radios perhaps something could be modified to make the latter seem like the former?

ATT does random IMEI checks. There is no way around it.
So, I have wanted to be able to mess around with phones for a while, and figured this could be a good place to start.
First: I do not use a smartphone at the moment. I am cheap and use a Pantech GoPhone. I had a US Cellular (CDMA ) LG Optimus U but decided I wanted a full keyboard phone and service outside of my area.
Anyways, I want to know if my GoPhone SIM Card will work in a Blackberry or an Android device, that is either unlocked or locked. I need to do this WITHOUT buying the smartphone data service for an extra 25 bucks a month.
Also, I need to know how to unlock stuff. I want to be able to buy a phone on eBay or something and unlock it and flip it around and sell it for more.
Thanks guys!

You can put your SIM card into any other AT&T branded smartphone. Assuming it's a 3g card, anyway. As for the data plan? AT&T will eventually realize you're on their network with a smartphone without a data plan. You basically need to buy it.
EDIT: With unlocking phones, they're all different. You would really need to go to the specific device's subforum here and check out how to do it.
some noob questions
I hear that AT&T has some software to detect your device and read your usage. There are ways to get around this it depends on the device ,you can mask your imei for instance so they can't detect the type of device your using ,works on a few pads with voice comm
capabilities such as the mediapad (springboard in the U.S)
As for unlocking ..depends on the manufacturer as they are all different
So with you being able to do a ESN swap and activate a phone on your own with sprint can you get a phone from another carrier and activate it?
I know this maybe a silly question but I'm asking just to make sure.
So lets say I buy a phone with a bad ESN for another carrier. Could I take said phone and use Sprints new ESN Swap to activate it and get it working for Sprint?
Thanks in advanced.
So i've seen quite a few ebay iphones with bad esn be it sprint or verizon. Now ive been looking around and reading many articles, but up till now i havent been able to clarify my situation.
So i hope you guys can help me, because there are too many diverging opinions and too many differing explanations. I need something concrete and sure.
Ok lets say theres an iphone 4s or 5 either verizon or sprint CDMA bad ESN or clean ESN. Ok so both normally have GSM sim capability . Doesnt matter if stolen, out of contract or lost or still has clean esn.
So its CDMA locked right, means that it doesnt use a GSM sim card and is only used on the carrier its locked to. But still retains GSM carrier sim useability properties.
So here is the question:-
1. Can i use a GSM sim card of another carrier "Emtel Mauritius"?
2. If yes is there anything else i need to make it work, jailbreak, unlock etc?
3. Is there any limitations in itunes, does Itunes activate my sim etc, will itunes block the BAD ESN phone?
4. Is baseband freely upgradeable without any consequences?
5. If i get an Rsim7, can i use the Bad ESN phone on the go without trouble.
Thanks for guidance.
I need to be 100% it could be a great save for me.
?? No1 ?? i wouldve expected a few replies with some substantial help by now. Any1 with experience with BAD ESN and can clear my way to cheap iphone 4s or 5.
