FLV on WM - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone, thanks for reading
I've ordered a HTC Touch 3G (Jade) running Windows Mobile 6, and I'd like to play .flv files I've got on my Micro-SD card on it.
Is there any application that will do the job correctly?
I've seen a lot of posts about this, but none so far have really helped me.
Most of them pointed towards a free old version of CorePlayer with a .flv plugin, but is there anything less outdated?
And how will the performance be on playing .flv movies?
It's processor is 528 MHz (not entirely sure, but won't be off by a lot) so will it lagg while playing these videos?
Thanks in advance!

the best thing i can advise although its not free is the current version of coreplayer (1.3?)

Those games aren't free and they're not fantastic either.
Ferrari Evolution is too fast on the HD2, can hardly control it...graphics aren't WVGA either so it's not fantastic.
GH5 is OK but it's slow and jerky...At first i thought it was my phone but after watching videos of it on youtube, alomost every OS it was made for is jerky and hard to play...only the Android one was smooth....DATA is also a requirement to play it...i never played it again...it came with my HD2 also...but it's too horrible to play...

tmo hd2 with its supersized rom and expanded ram is the best phone out there. it kills all the iphones they cant even multitask.android runs programs without your permission so your phones ram is full after just an hour or so without you even using it and the android email sucks compared to windows mobile--android cant run but a few video formats--winmo can play anything.
guitar hero 5played smooth all the way on the hd2. my cliq(android) hangs up if you try to do anything. i hope motorola ends up upgrading it to android 2.1 so i can at least get turn by turn. motorola has really let people down.
hd2 is windows mobile at its best. you can make it just right for you.
I wouldnt post guitar hero here if it is the full game, that might cound as Warez

Heavy graphics games for HD2

Recently I bought HD2. I have searched most of the top gaming sites and forums, but still not able to find games of a quality offered for iPhone. The hardware and graphic card quality of the phone is the best in its class but still games available in the market are way out dated .
If you people really have some thoughts, please share them.
Thanks,

FPsece0.10 working with CHT Editor ??
Hello!
I have read all the informations about FPsece. But it doesn't work on my HTC HD2. I install it like the support say it to me. When I start the Emu,I only see the "LOAD CD-Rom File" Screen(grey). And I see the games in .iso . If I select a game the only thing it happen is, a short time black sceen and then the screen turns back to Home screen. But the top of the Home screen(the bar which shows "Start", "Network", "Sound", "Accu") stays BLACK.
What's wrong??
This Emu works with .iso, .bin, correct?
Is CHT Editor a problem for working FPsece?

Are you saying that God of War 3 is available on the iPhone, or are you now comparing the HD2 to a PS3?
Yes, PSX games are pretty old, but that has nothing to do with their quality and blatant superiority to anything the iPhone has to offer. The PSX was a dedicated games console, and is obviously therefore better than any phone on the market today, for games. Show me any fighting game on the iPhone that comes close to Tekken 3.

I have no idea why you would think that, since the CHTEditor has absolutely nothing to do with the emulator, but I will tell you now, 100% guaranteed, that your problem has nothing whatsoever to do with the CHTEditor.
I suspect your problem is that you've downloaded the game images, rather than ripped them yourself. If you have ripped them yourself, rip them again, but at the slowest speed available.

Im sorry but most of the games on the iPhone as far as i can see are a complete joke. Some are absolutely brilliant but very very few.
Take a look at Street Fighter 4 on iPhone as a perfect example... 1 button for punch, 1 button for kick and the other buttons do the special moves for you... talk about dumbing down your game for your target audience.
There is no mobile device in the world that has as many quality games available as the original Playstation One library. Yes they are old but that doesnt mean they arent better then anything that is new. Most of them in fact are MUCH better then the newest mobile games on any platform.

I am not saying that God of War 3 is available on iPhone or trying to compare HD2 with PS3. My emphasis is on the latest technology. Have you ever tried to run Tekken 3 on PS3 (event though it is not compatible)? I hope, the answer is NO.
I have been using iPhone from last couple of months. As far as the gaming experience is concerned, undoubtedly it is much much better than HD2. Just have a look at Hero of Sparta or Blades Of Fury then you will realize how much outdated the games are for HD2 in the market.

I have actually played Tekken 3 on a PS3. It is compatible, if you don't have one of the newer PS3s.
My point was that there are a slew of PS1 games that completely wipe the floor with any game currently available on the iPhone. All those games are playable on the HD2.
I have been using FPSEce for many months. As far as the gaming experience is concerned, undoubtedly it is much much better than the iPhone. Just have a look at Tekken 3, Driver, Wipeout or Final Fantasy then you will realize how basic the games for the iPhone are, in the market. After all, they're being blown away by games, some of which are over 12 years old.

lol... did you even read my previous post?
Hmmm.
OK, so there are no HD2 specific games, but surely had research been done regarding WinMo, that would have been realised before purchase? And disappointment adverted.
There are a few games using Open GLES, but what mobile game can even come close to playing Tekken or Metal Gear Solid (which are full console layer games) on your phone.
Anyway, I have downloaded BIN/CUE files from a particular online resouce , and apart from issues with playing background music and sound effects at the same time, all is great! I really cannot be bothered to purchase a PSX disc and rip them myself, so I will just continue to download them.
Is anyone able to explain why ripping a disc at a slower speed is better from the ROMs and FPSECE?
Thanks.

From my knowledge of ripping disks way back in the day when i first discovered fpsece (about ten years ago!)... its because you get less bit errors when ripping at a slower speed therefore the emulator wont throw a spaz when it finds something out of place.

There are several threads here in General and Themes and Apps that talk about this.
I don't know of any reliable site that lets you stream movies on our gTabs at the moment (that doesn't mean one doesn't exist). I rip movies and move them to my gTab to watch. I also use my iPad/iPhone to watch NetFlix streaming movies (they have announced they will release a NetFlix app for Android soon).
Try using search and you will see this issue has been around for a while.

I'm using the latest version (I don't remember what it is as the app auto-updates). I rip all of my movies as xvid avi files resulting in movie files sizes between 400 MB to 1.2 GB depending on length of the movie or tv episode I rip.
They have profiles for different video format outputs already built in to the app and you have the ability to create your own custom format profiles as well. The full app with all of the options is pretty expensive in my opinion but you can find it from 3rd-party sellers for way less.
The quality of the resulting video for me looks fine on the gTab but don't expect it to look good if you have a dock and are using the HDMI out to view it on your big television (it will look pretty bad).

I need it for my kid’s movies - so I am not looking to use the HDMI or the docking station.
Yes, I noticed is kind of pricey – when you said third party you mean Google it to find it cheaper?
And as far of the format I am looking something really easy to use like plug and play without many configurations to set. Is this something like that?

[Q] How can I watch 720p mkv video on Inspire 4G??

Wondering if anyone has a solution here, AVI and MKV have issues playing. The MKVs are 720p HD tv shows, and the audio is great, but the video is choppy\slow-mo. Has anyone managed to find a player or a method to resolve this? I know this has been discussed in other forums, but related to different phones, so curious if there's a specific fix to this phone, or if a 720p is just too much for the Inspire 4G to handle. I wouldn't think so since last year's iPhone 3G and 3GS and 4 can handle it just fine.... I'm thinking something is wrong or I'm using the wrong app.
I don't think the stock video player can do it, so you'll have to try some third party apps like VPlayer, RockPlayer, and Act 1. Let us know if any of those three get the job done. I'm curious too. Otherwise we may need to convert videos.

VPlayer - Same
RockPlayer - Same
Act 1 - Same
None of these seem to work. I wonder if it's the way my videos are encoded? I sure hope not, because all the MKV files I download from the torrents of tv shows I miss are formatted the same way. They always played fine on iPhone
Anyone else experience this issue and find a resolution?
Thanks!

Oh really? I don't see any Class 6 or higher on Amazon. Mine is a class 4. Can the Inspire 4G even benefit from class 6? I'm able to watch them off the memory card on my class 4 when plugged into my computer just fine.
the desire hd can support all class cards including class 10, so i cant see why the inspire cant either.
Yea class 4 should be ok i would think? Have you tried different size files?
Is anybody else having trouble like this ?

I have 2 inspire 4g devices, and have tried both a Class 2 and a Class 4 card. I ordered a Class 10 from Amazon (they only had up to 16gb, not the 32GB like my class 4), so I'll report back tomorrow when it arrives.
The file I'm using is a 1.09GB MKV file.
I have yet to purchase the Inspire and this problem is one of the reasons that I am waiting. FWIW I have read many complaints from users having this problem.
I have the same issue
It happens on G1, Streak and Inspire. However, cheap Archos doesn't this issue. Isn't that ironic? I was trying to copy the Archos player but no success...

Clearly it's either the way my video is encoded, or the lack of proper decoder on the android. I am at the end of my rope trying to resolve. I didn't like my iPhone because it's incompatibilities, and everyone with Android said "get an Android cause it'll decode anything" ... lol... wonder if we'll ever have a solution to decode a mkv properly.
You do realize that your phone is only capable of show video resolution up to 400p? MKV is mostly used for HD rips because it ends up having the best quality after compression, but your phone is not HD in the sense that it is over a standard definition television vertical wise (watching it in wide screen format).
Anything bigger will have to be scaled down by the player, sucking up battery life and you wont notice a quality difference. Aside from that, forcing your device to play something higher res will suck the battery life as well because it will be more intensive on the cpu. Why dont you just use xvid rips in avi format? Everything that's ripped in mkv is always ripped in xvid as well.

Yeah, the processing power is certainly there so I guess it's just an issue of improper codec execution :-(
Not sure on a player to watch them on android. I would just go through the top ones on the market place and do trial and error
I dont have a computer with osx on it currently, but VLC (the PC/OSX version) does convert file formats as well and it's free.

Yeah none worked. I think it's just the issue of the MKV file. They don't work on iPhone with any of the players either, I think it just takes more power and video processing to handle them.

I doubt that the xoom will be able to play .mkv files right out of the box. But Im sure that there are other players in the market that will be able to. I used to have an iPad (but sold it to get the xoom) and that was one of my main problems, not being able to play .mkv, but the VLC app worked perfectly for me, the only problem was that the iPad wasn't powerful enough to run a 720p or an 1080p .mkv file. Kept lagging and the audio was out of sync. Hopefull with the tegra 2 processor and the 1080p support the xoom will be able to play my files.

Galaxy S has native Divx support and can play AVI and MKV through the built in video player. No need for any third party players. I doubt the Xoom will have divx certification, but it certainly should be able to decode 720P MKV files using a software solution through Rockplayer.

none of these have dual core either so the xoom will be able to handle high def mkvs, we probably just have to wait for a player that take advantage of dual core to smooth out playback.

Not if you are running CM7 (as I stated in my post). CM7 = AOSP based.
OR u can use Handbrake to help u convert mkv to mp4 for playback on your xoom
Beware, that's not true. Xoom has limitation for what kind of video files it can play:

I doubt that the xoom will be able to play .mkv files right out of the box. But Im sure that there are other players in the market that will be able to. I used to have an iPad (but sold it to get the xoom) and that was one of my main problems, not being able to play .mkv, but the VLC app worked perfectly for me, the only problem was that the iPad wasn't powerful enough to run a 720p or an 1080p .mkv file. Kept lagging and the audio was out of sync. Hopefull with the tegra 2 processor and the 1080p support the xoom will be able to play my files.

none of these have dual core either so the xoom will be able to handle high def mkvs, we probably just have to wait for a player that take advantage of dual core to smooth out playback.

But it will still be limited by the FAT32 file system. You can't play full length 1080p simply because the files are too big.
please stop spreading this nonsense. its not true. this is a horrible false news being spread way to much. i just dont get people.

Isn't the whole 32Gb formated in EXT4? Why would there me any use of FAT32!?

I tested all of them on Dell Streak 5, Nexus One and Inspire 4G, they can play but with lags. Ironically, the cheap Archos can play the same file fine. Go figure.

my sentiments exactly, my Archos 101 can play every video file I thro w at it, I did purchase the $12 Cinema Plugin, the inability of the xoom to play some video files is what is keeping me from buying one, among other things

Oh, I have an Evo and I think the file system on the SD card is FAT32. Can Windows 7 read EXT4?
Motorola's official word is to use <15MBps video on 720 and it will be fine.
