What do you use your PPC for?

Hola,
I'm still a little new to this forum and I have done a lot of reading and searching. I would like to ask what you use your PPC for and with what tools. Example; for me I use my PPC as:
Telephone - built in
PDA - built in
Camera - built in used seldom because poor in quality
MP3 Player - built in
others would have something like GPS, etc. I'm trying to get a feel as to what else I can do with my PPC.

not exactly sure what you're after but here goes:
Telephone - built in
BT Headset - via Bluetooth
PDA - built in
Camera - built in used seldom because poor in quality
MP3 Player - built in
GPS - via Bluetooth
Laptop mouse pad/control - via Bluetooth, Activesync and 3rd party app called Pocket Tablet (though it's not as accurate). Good for flipping charts/PPT materials when in a meeting
Browsing - built in
Car Stereo - 2.5mm to 3.5mm plug converter, car charger and a sh*tload of mp3s in the storage card
FM radio via 3rd party app using GPRS
Traffic video watch via 3rd party app using GPRS
Flashlight - Pocket Lamp...helpful when I drop something in the movie theatre
and 3rd party apps for doing all sorts of things like currency/unit converter

I use mine simply for phoneing, a basic track of pims and all my texts from my beloved wifey.
What else oh yes gps, games, browsing web and work sending me loads of emails.

mostly navigating and phone usage play a few games and keep appointments

What app is this?
If you use GPRS, then surely it's internet radio and not FM radio.

I use my Wallaby to navigate around London on foot and public transport with train, underground and street maps. Also alarm clock, address book, scheduling, phone calls, taking notes whilst in meetings (might be getting the keyboard for it soon), a game or two when I'm bored, MSN messenger, IRC and email when I'm out and about on the bus/train etc and as a guitar tuner.
Great, handy little device that can do so much!

use them for a little bit everything they are designed to do...
but, mostly for the internet & as a world phone when traveling...

I do tons with my phone.. gps, internet, phonebook, addressbook, calculator, tip calc, book, pretty much everything.. the only 2 things I can't figure out yet is a functional semi accurate sound DB/SPL meter, and something for monitoring/modifying my car engine, for on the fly tuning.

Basicaly is my main device for working and personal
So with my great Universal I do:
80% calling, 10% net surfing with Opera mobile and live messenger and
10% installing, tweaking, flashing ROM´s etc
Never use camera, never play games...

similar to orb3000, dont use my device for games and camera.... i use it for everything else they are designed to do. mostly phone calls, agenda, reminder, business contacts - its like a mini yellow pages here , internet, dictionary, calculator, and some other useful apps like forex, dictionary, investment tools, etc etc..
cant live without it

Another here who doesn't use the camera, games, or even as an MP3 player. If i want the first i have a nice Fuji A370, the middle a DS, and the latter a 120Gb iPod. Saves the battery on my Trinity for the day to day stuff of messaging in all its forms, SMS, IM, twitter, email, voice.

one more thing. i have a u1000 and with that the screen's 5 inches. for long drives and i don't need the gps, i mount it in the back passenger window. my kid loves movies like finding nemo (disney - pixar - dreamworks), etc. so instead of buying a portable dvd and a screen, the u1000 does this perfectly.

The two biggest uses for my Kaiser are browsing the web with Opera or Skyfire and finding businesses and directions and such with Live Search and GMM. The calendar (synced through Exchange with my Google calendar) is also very useful to me.
I never use the media functions, because there's no dedicated 3.5mm jack out and I already have a Zune.
I use the camera occasionally, but rarely for taking actual "photos." I use it as a "scanner" to take pictures of text or stuff I want to remember with Evernote.

I have Rose.
For music and audiobooks I use PocketPlayer.
for reading ebooks - Mobipocket Reader.
Navigation - Garmin Mobile XT.
Movies - TCPMP.
Internet and online communication - Iris browser + Palringo.
Audio recording and Dictaphone - Audionotes.
QR barcodes - I-nigma.
Standard phone functions - rarely.
Camera - almost never.
I never use RSS Hub, Messenger, e-mail, PIE, Audio Manager or FM Radio.
I have also some games and 3rd party tweaking and modding software like SKTools and SmartToolkit(this is used rarely because it's unstable and uses too much resources). I'm waiting for some ROM updates to make my phone more stable and to increase performance...

Orb on any device

Orb is a media sharing app that you install on home pc(or where the media is that you want to share) very easy setup. works on phone, ps3, laptops, or anything that has internet connection. It converts on the fly so you dont have to convert media. there is a login in screen when trying to acess(your media). Its a cool app that lets me take my 50 gigs of music, 10 gigs of video anwhere(through internet) without having in store on device
Xda and everyone here has been a great, you guys helped a noob figure everything needed to flash, and every way to unbrick my phone in under a week.
And thats includes figuring out this webpage, xda is like family now. THANKS

I've been using orb for years now, its great, I have my cable tv plugged into my video card and can watch live tv, any channel anywhere I am. I only have 2g where I live but tv and video still stream great if I set it around 100k. orb is awesome, and free!

Saw your article on the messengers, can you tell me which you think is the best messenger as on date and IS there any ppc messenger which can let us video chat using the inbuilt camera??? I can see that all the messengers dont have that option, please help me

First off can't put it down, this thing is insane an I didn't even hack it yet. (Waiting to go buy a micro SD card) Got a couple of questions. I use iTunes and would like to stream my library to my g tablet, is there a compadiable app,or do ibhave to move my library to windows media player, if so is there an app that will allow me to control my library like iPhones remote app? And lastly any kick a$$ apps out there? In the short time I've had it found a killer emulator and spent the day kicking it old school...lol thanks in advanced to all who respond.

Unfortunately I can't suggest an iTunes sync app as I don't use it.
As for killer apps, you might want to mention some of your interests in a tablet - ie. video playback (Rockplayer), ebooks (Aldiko), comics (ACV or JJComics Viewer) etc.

I'm a techie type Guy, for instance getting this unit to sync my music, pictures and to get it to start my car or control my lighting, things like that.
Also an avid gamer,loving the emulators
My big thing is trying to find a way to get icefilm.info or something similar to it to stream movies on here so I can hook it up to the dock with HDMI to my TV.
You guys r awesome thanks in advance for taken the time to help me out

Might need to run an alternative server since itunes doesn't like to play nice with the standard. I run a firefly server on my nas.

Podcasts
Any suggestions on getting podcasts to sync? Using doubletwist doesn't exactly work properly; audio podcasts show up as playlists, not podcasts, which is OK, but video podcasts don't work at all.
Does anyone use any other program that will actually automatically download podcasts? It seems like most of the apps I've looked at are written for phones with 3g connections to listen to streaming podcasts, which the G-tab obviously doesn't do.

You can use .podkast or google listen.

I've used BeyondPod previously and works pretty well. It would be perfect if it were free, but i guess $7.00 is not too much of a price to pay after the trial is over.

Google listen seems to work for some people, but not others; I am apparently one of the others, because it will only stream and I can't figure out how to make it download, even though I've told it to do so.
I'm thinking of trying beyondpod or doggcatcher, but don't really want to pay until I know they'll work. Guess I'll go for the free trial.

[Q] Any good apps on the market?

Ive been looking for some decent apps for my Nexus one and i have been able to find very few that i like. If anyone can give me some apps that are handy or games that are fun it will be gladly appreciated.

I would think in order to get a decent response, you would want to narrow down what it is you are looking to do.
If you can think of it, it has an app. If it doesn't......start learning how to design apps and make some coin
But here goes with a few of my faves............
AudioGalaxy
For portable music from my HDD. Full access to my home music collection.
The best app in my opinion is AudioGalaxy. It has magic metadata that somehow seems to get all names and artwork right. It ports into your personal collection and can be streamed over data or wifi. You can make playlists on the go that store in a folder on your PC at home. It is simply amazing, and with even just a decent signal, it streams virtually flawlessly.
I can't say enough about it, other than GET IT !!
To top it all off, it is 100 % free. But I found it so good that I actually bought the add ons just to support the development of the app.
Hands down my favorite music app, and in the top 5 of my all time apps.
AirDroid
Wifi transfer your media/files from or to your Android device and PC. Uses your browser and has a cool interface that you can shuffle around like a desktop. Hasn't dropped a transfer yet. Free. Very cool app.
WiFi Explorer PRO
Same as Airdroid pretty much. Works awesome. Great support. I bought this before I found AirDroid. Both are great and transfer fairly fast for WiFi. Interfaces thru browser as well. Very good app.
ES File Explorer
Hands down my favorite file management app. Transfer files between phone/home windows shares/ftp server/bluetooth shares/online storage drives.
One of the most popular on the market. Somewhat customizable. Plain and simple it is THE file managment app in my opinion.
Tablet Talk
This app allows your non-3G/data enabled tablet (wifi only), to link via wifi or bluetooth to your data/wifi smartphone.
If you have your cell phone charging in another room and on, you can connect your tablet to it, and you can then text or call from it using your data/contract plan.
Very cool app. Comes in handy in various situations.
iMediaShare
VERY cool app !! this app acts as both a server or a client on your network. It can pick up other dlna/upnp servers, and connect as a client. Or it can act as a server, porting various media shares/local files to a specified device like a PS3 or a 360.
What is REALLY cool, is that you can web stream various websites, like YouTube or HD Nation by browsing the site on the app, finding the vid/s you want, and point it to the PS3. You then go to you media server section on your PS3 or 360, and voila, that video is onscreen.
You can search YouTube, and then view the whole search query. As well, on the PS3 you can copy these vids to your HDD.
What is truly amazing is the amount of web sites to choose from.

You can stick with the free (lite) version which has 80% available and standard definition video. If you pay the 2 bucks or whatever for the full version, you can access a few more channels but you get the HD channels as well.
I have a whack of HD music vids from YouTube, stored on my PS3 now because of the ease of this app. Simply awesome !!!!
OverSkreen
The coolest browser on the market ! It'a a floating browser. (I would link you to my YouTube clip on it, but I am still a noob so unfortunately I can't link you any of these and you have to Google them yourself)
Anyways, back on track.
Overskreen floats on your desktop to give you a windows effect. You can run one app, and have your Overskreen window tucked in the corner watching a mini youtube vid. Hard to describe, I suggest checking it out.
Very innovative. The app is getting better everyday, but is still new so it has some bugs. Either way, it may change the future of smartphones and tablets. Check it out.
Games
GTA III - no need for explanation. Only game I have. Pretty sweet. Costs a few bucks but worth it.
Wallpaper
Jumpgate - simply one of the best wallpapers for your Android . Burns your battery a little more, but it's definitely cool.
So there's a few for you. Not sure if you are looking for something else, but these are some of the most used and actually useful apps in my inventory.
I can add to this later as I think of more.
BUT........
If you really want to have fun and tinker. Custom ROM's is where it's at.
My Telus Mobility Nexus now has a lockscreen carrier name of:

...and my opening boot animation is the little Androids on the the Tron bikes that collide in an X shape and explode into the Galaxy Nexus logo.

[Q] Best Audiogalaxy replacement for music streaming

I've been using Audiogalaxy for a while, but that's dead now . I'm looking for a good free set of software that will replace it.
I want something that streams music from my computer, as opposed to the cloud, mainly because I do use Google Play Music a bit and it's tedious at updating tags and files. (Long story, known issue).
I've looked at subsonic, but am not a terribly huge fan, and they require a license on the server that they call a "donation". Looked at Tonido, but they also want money for you to "share" more than 2gb of music that you will be streaming from your own computer (right..... no thanks). Plex might work, but the UI is pretty terrible, and I've had poor results with the streaming when using it for videos.
Google Music would be excellent, but as I said, the sync is kind of lousy. I've got a large collection and I'm re-cataloging it, fixing tags, etc. AFAIK, I'd have to delete everything and re-upload it to get it to update.

I have a similar issue I have a little over 300 gig of music, their isn't a server out there that can allow me to put 300 gig in the cloud without me paying money I need something that I can stream right from my computer. Audiogalaxy was awesome! stupid move on their part

Using QuikIO as replacement for AudioGalaxy
I switched to QuikIO on my iPhone/iPad. It works fine for me on 3G/LTE and Wi-Fi. It needs a bit more enhancements for functionality for music but it also supports a lot more media type - video, photo, and document. I would recommend others to give it a try.

They don't have an android app yet

I found out about a media server app for pc called Serviio. It works really well to stream music, movies, and pictures over a mobile connection using 2 apps for android called ServiiGo and Serviidroid. Setup is pretty easy, try that out and good luck!
oh but unfortunately you can't scrobble to last.fm if thats something you are also looking to do.
