Welcome to the forum
If you reflash you´ll have it back for sure, just back up your data and read the Wiki to learn how to do it depending on your device
Or do a hard reset or run "clear storage", it should come back. Again, back up all of your data, if it's on the phone memory, it will be gone!

This problem has come up before.....no Hard Reset etc. required!!!
Use a decent file explorer and see if \Windows\StartMenu\Settings is there.....don´t worry, the folder is supposed to be empty. Chances are that you won´t find that folder and that causes your problem. Just create the above folder, soft reset et voilá.....
P.S.: you have probably used some cleaning utility to remove empty folders and that has caused your problem.....
reset start menu at start up
you can reset the start menu at start up at de user properties.

Solved.
Thanks michi123.
That worked perfect. I got the settings back in Startmenu!
I also have an other question. Why does it take 2½ minute to open the /Windows catalog in fileexplorer? Should it take so long time?
Excouse my English!
Thanks
/Christian.

Hi,
That depends on how many files (and how big) there are in your windowsfolder. Use this to add some more info to your file-explorer and search for the big files , probably music or movies, and move them to a storagecard.
Dirk
okey.
I try that. but I'm quite sure I don't have any big files there, I save everything on memorycard. And clean temporary internet files offent. But I think samsung have alot of files in /windows.
don't know how to fix it.

Hi,
Originally posted in the Universal forum, but no response. So am trying here in case anyone has had any similar issues.
After installing and then removing SMAATO news reader I have lost my windows mobile 2nd boot screen.
I know its called welcomehead.192.png and is located in Windows
The file is still there in ROM and I have also copied it across into Windows again (solution offered by searching through other threads). However when I soft reset after the Orange screen, all i get is a white screen.
Can anyone let me know how to restore, I believe other users have had issues with pss reader too.
Thanks in advance. (My device is the M5000)
Matt
Having the same "problem" from the same cause for the last 2 months.....got used to it though, since it does not affect functionality....
white screen
Sorry can't help but I have exactly the same problem due to the same cause on Prophet (SPV M600) so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have contacted SMAATO, so will let you know.
Other users have had same issue with PRSS Reader and for them, when they uninstalled the reader, their splash screen came back.
Matt
white screen
cheers - look forward to hearing. Wonder if it's coincidence that we're both uk orange? You'd think there would be a reg tweakt hat would point to the second screen to load.
SMAATO replied and said they are looking into it!!
I read from some people that installing PRSS Reader also causes this issue - but that uninstalling restores the boot screen. I tried this but it didnt restore my screen.....and the uninstaller didnt remove the PRSS app completely - resulting in more searching on the web to find out all of the files/reg keys to get rid of.
I do wonder to myself why I installed SMAATO/PRSS in the first place!!
Matt
Thanks for getting back - no doubt it will be hard reset which I dread!
Have you tried that? or doesn't even that help.
If there's any chance of you listing the files/reg entries to delete I'd appreciate that as I had same problem & simply searched ppc for anything with somaato in it, so I'm sure I've still lots of cr*p left on it.
cheers
Hard resetting does restore the boot screen, however restoring a backup will give you the same behaviour - unless that backup is from before SMAATO deinstallation

Hi,
In your post you mentioned about manual uninstall. I dont know about SMAATO that uninstalled OK, but for PRSSReader - to perform a manual uninstall:
1. Disable today plugin, if it is active
2. Delete registry keys:
HKCU\Software\DaProfik\pRSSreader
HKLM\Services\pRSSreader
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\pRSSreader
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\David Andrs pRSSreader
3. reboot the device
4. delete files:
\windows\AppMgr\David Andrs pRSSreader.dll
\windows\David Andrs pRSSreader.unload
\windows\zlib1.dll
\windows\libexpat.dll
\windows\prssrtoday.dll
\windows\prssrenc.dll
\windows\prssrsrv.dll
<installation path>\pRSSreader
Hope this helps.
Matt
Since I got some ActiveSync-problems, I tried cleaning out my device and finally found the cause of the white boot screen:
Older versions of pRSSreader install a zlib.dll to \Windows\ overwriting the built-in one. Now I just renamed that to zlib1.dll (couldn't delete, because it was in use) and on my next reboot: voilà - there was the 2nd boot screen again!!
Newer versions of pRSSreader install the file as zlib1.dll.
Cheers,

Nice one mbirth you're a star - worked no problem!
Just curious - Do you know what zlib is? and is it safe to delete it now it's renamed and soft reset?
Thanks once again
P.S. I now have zlib.dll; zlib1.dll; AND zlibce.dll !

I can also confirm that it works brilliantly!!
With regards to getting rid of the old file - I renamed zlib.dll to zlib1.dll. After my device booted correctly I moved the zlib1.dll to my storage card and all is still ok. If you have something like total commander, after showing ROM files the zlib file is listed in the windows directory. If you hide them - then you shouldnt see any zlib.dll files - unless another application has installed them, but a clean device will only have the zlib.dll in ROM
Hope this helps.

zlib = gzip-compression-library. See Wikipedia. I guess the deflate-algorithm used for PNG files was faulty or missing in the pRSS-version of zlib. With deleting that file, you have the original built-in version back active.
If you already have the newer version of pRSSreader, you might want to rename the file to something different than zlib1.dll since pRSSreader 1.3 already installs a zlib1.dll.
After a soft-reset, you can safely delete the renamed file.

Ok, no extended ROM, not like it's wide public knowledge. But how in the hell do we delete unwanted crap? I'd rather not have to do the anti-bloatware reset, I'd like to be able to have full frigin control over my PDA! Anyone?

For "full frigin control", you'll have to learn how to cook your own ROM. Or, you may find that someone will post one here that suits your needs, in time. Other than that, you're stuck resetting during the "customization" process.
Is the statement that there is no Extended ROM on the Kaiser relevant for the Tilt as well or is this related to only the Tytn II HTC ROM? Specifically, during the carrier customization process on the AT&T Tilt, if there is no Extended ROM, where are the customization CABS being called from and how can they be extracted as others have done?

Do a search in \Windows\ for *.cab files and you'll find your answer.
(Total Commander is a great tool for searching your device, among other things)
Thanks for the info.

You can delete them without a problem. They've already been used/installed, so they're just taking up space now.
Hope that helps.
I tried deleting some cab files from my windows directory, but it says unable to delete because they are part of the rom. I'm using at&t rom.

If you hard-reset, everything will be back as usual. I noticed Kyphur's post above mine eluding to not being able to delete the files because a poster's question above him. I was under the impression that changing the attributes of the files and then deleting them would work. But hey, I could very well be wrong.
I, unfortunately, don't have a Kaiser anymore (horrible story, I'll try not to cry thinking about it), so I can't test it out right now. But try using Total Commander or something to change those attributes and delete them. As I said though, once you hard-reset, they WILL be back. Post back if that works.
dammit failed to do it with resco file exp. will try a/s then commander
hello, i am trying to delete FTouchFlo from my startup folder and i get the "cannot delete 'FTouchFlo' there has been a sharing violation. Having you tried browsing your device with your PC and delete from there...also use something like phm task to see if there are any hidden tasks running related to it..also ensure your registry is cleared of it....If I were you I would make a HR my last resort....thats my 2 cents worth. GOOD LUCK.

Ensure your Tornado is in 3-colour mode
And i wonder whether you can find the "usb" in the "Serial" option.
If not, you can choose any such as "com1", and click ok: donot close TeraTerm.exe.
Open another TeraTerm.exe, and then you can see the "usb" in "Serial" option, choose "usb": before clicking "OK", close the first TeraTerm.exe application.
In this way, i think your problem can be handled.

I take it Tera Term is just not able to find the phone. Try unuinstalling active sync and reinstalling active sync. I think it has some thing to do with your PC not reading your phone. If you can get it into bootloader, you should be able to flash something on it.
Don't forget to unselect "Allow USB Connections" in ActiveSync before you use TeraTerm!!
THANKS to all you guys...
My heart-felt thanks to all you fantastic guys. Firstly to Blackdragon_860 who worked tirelessly through the day and night to release this fantastic ROM. (I know, as I do, we, ROM junkies were eagerly waiting for a refreshed ROM to be flashed). Secondly to all you guys out there who provided suggestions on how to solved my TeraTerm issue. Also to those who symphatised with me. THANKS! You guys are
I somehow managed to get TeraTerm to connect I did two things. First in Settings>Connections>USB to PC>set to off. I also switched the usb port. So I cant exactly determine which of these two solved my problem.
and here are some stats and pics.
Available Storage: 18.52
Total Storage: 20.94
Available Memory: 27.17
Total Memory: 48.68
Not much different from Gnat's ROM.
I havent really played around with it yet so cant say what's missing or any bugs around.
The significant additions (as far as i am concerned) are the modified *.cpr file (that control how the homescreen is displayed) and the bronzeres.dll which contains the pics for the homescreen. This bronzeres.dll had more than 100 pics instead of the original which only had about 80. (I found this file elsewhere in this forum; thanks to the contributor). If you want to view the content of the bronzeres.dll, download PE Explorer and install to your pc (please google for it).
Attached are the pics.
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!!
Sorry Guys, i was sleeping..
Illi, Good that you solved your problem and thank you very much for your screens.
I dont know really what for bugs have gnagnosplat's rom. Perhaps someone can write that here and i would show to fix that.
What i can say is, that the rom very fast and stable is
But what i doesnt make in that rom is, to install other software. This rom must remain clean. The full rom, would have the tools that you have postet in the other thread.
Blackdragon
Problem
I think most, if not all, bugs in GnatGoSplat's ROM is with this ROM too. Eg. WMP full-screen does not "sick" after a few seconds it reverts to default screen. Not only that, I am being "kicked" out of applications unexpectedly. The appman.exe seems to have shortage of memory to run programs.
System error:
"Cannot start 'appman.exe'. A critical component is either missing or failing due to low memory"
So, I would suggest those who intend to flash this ROM but havent done so, please hold back. Do not flash yet until I am sure its not the ROM but my apps installation. BTW I didnt install that many and they were the same apps that I installed when I was with Gnat's ROM.
@Blackdragon_860 - I am sorry, looks like you need to get back to the re-cooking. But we must determine the problem first. I am still testing.

Once again, This is not the freakin place to ask! This is for ROM development. Are you a chef? NO.
All you do, is you download the CAB file from the PointUI website (DOWNLOAD).
Then, you copy that CAB file to your phone somewhere. Now, go to your phone's file explorer, navigate to where you saved the CAB, single tap on the CAB. It'll bring up the installing screen. You can install on Device Memory or Storage Card. Doesn't matter.
Once you finish the installing proccess, see if PointUI is on your homescreen at all. If it's not there, then you follow what I said above, about checking it in the Today items.
