Ok, no extended ROM, not like it's wide public knowledge. But how in the hell do we delete unwanted crap? I'd rather not have to do the anti-bloatware reset, I'd like to be able to have full frigin control over my PDA! Anyone?

For "full frigin control", you'll have to learn how to cook your own ROM. Or, you may find that someone will post one here that suits your needs, in time. Other than that, you're stuck resetting during the "customization" process.

Is the statement that there is no Extended ROM on the Kaiser relevant for the Tilt as well or is this related to only the Tytn II HTC ROM? Specifically, during the carrier customization process on the AT&T Tilt, if there is no Extended ROM, where are the customization CABS being called from and how can they be extracted as others have done?

Do a search in \Windows\ for *.cab files and you'll find your answer.
(Total Commander is a great tool for searching your device, among other things)

Thanks for the info.

You can delete them without a problem. They've already been used/installed, so they're just taking up space now.
Hope that helps.

I tried deleting some cab files from my windows directory, but it says unable to delete because they are part of the rom. I'm using at&t rom.

The only way to remove them is to learn how to Cook a ROM.

If you hard-reset, everything will be back as usual. I noticed Kyphur's post above mine eluding to not being able to delete the files because a poster's question above him. I was under the impression that changing the attributes of the files and then deleting them would work. But hey, I could very well be wrong.
I, unfortunately, don't have a Kaiser anymore (horrible story, I'll try not to cry thinking about it), so I can't test it out right now. But try using Total Commander or something to change those attributes and delete them. As I said though, once you hard-reset, they WILL be back. Post back if that works.

dammit failed to do it with resco file exp. will try a/s then commander

Yes. I have a folder called "cabs" on my microSD card. I click through it with Total Commander if I hard reset, or I use ActiveSync to reinstall apps through its interface.

I could be wrong, but I think what the OP was asking is if they can install directly to the ROM, therefor it's protected during a hard reset. If that's the case then no, you can't do that.

Ahh, "constructive" by not answering the question. I see. I didn't see that he asked how to reinstall programs after a hard reset. My bad.
Can't you still modify the setup text? Have it point to the cabs you want installed through the customization process? Again, not in ROM, but at least you don't have to use cabvia 50 times.

Weather for CHome... a complete solution.

A heads up for you guys, since you would probably like this functionality for your Vox's.

it may interest all you vox owners (like myself), that I have looked thru the coding of that cab and have been coding all the nessesary bits for it to work on our phones. I'm still working on the cpr file (the one that positions everything), and then I will cab it all up. im still trying to contact the developer to see if he knows whys its not installing thou (and to make sure its okay to poke around in his file!)
EDIT>>
I've just noticed the developer has changed his use of the TestUIPlugin slide for the use of the welcome screen slide, due to reliability and positioning, BUT I personally use the welcome slide for shortcuts, and have had no issues with the testuiplugin slide, plus I notice the welcome screen cannot refresh like the testui one can, so i'm sticking with it. If anyone is interested in my cpr file, or others, I can post them.
Kos letme know when your cab is ready...
thank you
So.. is it possible to install the weather plugin on the Vox? Please post the cpr file or whatever is needed to install it.
If you go the original thread in the Excalibur forum, you can download the cab there and install it on your Vox. It uses the WelcomeCenter plugin which is already properly formatted for the Vox as well. Go download it and try it
I tried every version posted in the Excalibur thread and it doesn't install. It says i don't have sufficient permissions. Rebooted, tried again and still nothing...
EDIT: Found the original version and it still does not install...

The solution I found to make it work is to install everything manually including the creation of the registry keys... :| :S ....but it works now ;P
Well, now I have an issue: everytime the weather updates, my start menu dies...it just stops working...
You guys should try unlocking your device with the SDA Unlocker app that's floating around. That will most definitely do the trick.

Remove AT&T Bloatware from 6.1 ROM

I have downloaded the new (semi-official) AT&T 6.1 ROM build 19213. I am trying to strip it down and remove the bloatware to have a clean slate to cook with. I have been unable to successfully extract the OEM and SYS folders from OS.nb. How should I do this, and how do I identify which files correspond to the AT&T garbage?
hey been lookin all day for it, where did u find it ?

i have already done this and edited incognitho's 1st post with the OS only download... this is bloat stripped version and OS only. However, this does not include the ATT settings, the only thing ATT it still has is the dialer and comm manager. thats it.

Thanks a lot. I tried to download it earlier today, but kept encountering rapidshare errors. it seems to be working fine now.
Just out of curiosity, could you direct me to anywhere on the forum or wiki with instructions on how to strip bloatware from the ROM. I have been messing around with hypercore and kaiser rom kitchen, but have not been able to extract the OEM folders. It would be nice to know how to do this for future reference.

trial and error, the wiki is what i used... and i have no issues using kaiser kitchen to extract all folders.
Check out my XDA-Live Rom (see my signature)
It is stripped to the bone (only MS Voice Command left in) and UC Compliant.
Plus it is "Kitchen Friendly" which means I preserved the rgu & dsm files so you can rebake it in the Kaiser Kitchen.
god, cant people just asnwer and not say look at the wiki or something..
use the htc rom image editor
or, once youve got the os.nb
get all the nbtools and imgfstools in a folder with os.nb
then open cmd in the folder and type nbsplit -kaiser os.nb [splits os into payload and extra]
then imgfsfromnb os.nb.payload imgfs.bin [extracts imgfs from nb.payload]
then imgfstodump imgfs.bin [dumps imgfs]
this will make a dump folder with the files from your rom. you can delete the stuff you dont want, but it might be hard to work out. this is where you use packagetool to make packages. run package tool from anywhere, click file, open folder. open the dump folder and then click build packages. then you can add oem packages or whatever
then type this
imgfsfromdump imgfs.bin imgfs-new.bin [makes imgfs from dump using old imgfs as a template]
imgfstonb imgfs-new.bin os.nb.payload os-new.nb.payload [rebuilds .nb.payload]
nbmerge -kaiser os-new.nb [rebuilds payload and extra to nb]
then use duttys nbhtool to rebuild it into an nbh
to save all the cmd, just use htc rom image editor, its in developemnt and hacking somewhere. so much easier than this way
[if this is wrong, dont blame me, and use the exact commands i used, because it will save confusion]
or just use the kaiser kitchen and you dont have to memorize all that commands
so true, so so true.. ive only done it a few times and i know them all.. and i had to just learn the kaiser ones tongiht for diamond roms. and i hadnt used nbmerge ever before until just now.
and its all in the tzadio tools readme

fair enough.... its just once theyve asked, to me, it took 5 mins to write that while doing other stuff... so i may as well answer. maybe if mods could close/move/delete threads easier, then there would be way less threads doing this.

in all fairness, i havent cooked since the wizard days, when i had the hermes i decided not to mess with cooking cause its a big pain in the A$$ especially if you decide to publish your work. So now with the kaiser i decided to cook. im certainly not one of the no it all mods, but when i went to learn how to do it i spent a few days with the wiki and doing trial in error. Get your stylis in the hole before you click to start using your phone. Click the screen and immediatly click the soft reset. Worked for me after hours of hard work.

Wow cheif. Was it really necessary to bump a five month old thread for that? That trick is posted all over XDA.
K, so what if?
I have successfully wiped bloatware from the system before. I understand the hard reset process & then soft reset immeditely prior to the customization BUT...I still can't remove the bloatware. I have tried altering the timing on the soft reset but to no avail.

You download an OEM package set. You find out what you want to get rid off program wise, you highlight everything in that OEM folder. You copy it. You go to the OEMAPPS folder (and every other OEM folder) and you paste it. Say yes to overwrite whatever will be overwritten. Right away, press the delete button on the keyboard. You just deleted every file that belongs to that program.
Ivan, one thing about your roms that has always bothered me is that with my 8gb memory card when I do a soft reset the phone loops between the 2 splash screens untill I remove the card. Is there a way to fix this? Right now I'm running your stripped version of JustMe, however have had the problem all the way back to Just2Clean.

It's not my ROM only, as this happens with a lot of ROMs. At one time or another, I had figured out which software caused the problem but I have forgotten since then. Which packages are you building the ROMs with?
Im not sure if this is the same thing that live4nothing asked, but after doing lesson 2, and moving the OEM folder, when I open the OEM folder it is emtpy. No packages, running the stripped version from your website before installing anything.

All ROMs made with a Kitchen that uses "all_packages_to_one.exe" like bepe's kitchen will not be decompilable. Besides, you always want to start with a clean slate. Using someone else's ROM without their permission would start issues.
Ok I will try it with the stock rom

Hard-Reset-Proof writable memory?

Sometimes you can write to extendend rom, but i guesss it might be device-dependent. I'm sure it worked on Wizard and toshiba G900. And i don't think that extrom is wiped during a HR. I never tested it, but that might be something worth trying. I just don't remember how to make the extrom writable on HTC's - it's writable in the g900 by default and you can access it by typing \extpart in total commander's address bar. But i think it was a bit different on HTC's.
Most newer devices don't have Extended Rom though. My Kaiser & Raphael don't.
Oh, ok. That's why i said it might be device-dependent

We're looking at ways of making "WIMP" type app that cannot be removed, or have it's settings wiped. I don't think it is possible, but we are hoping.
Getting the App Cooked in is easy, stopping the settings getting wiped after "Clear Storage" is another thing. Is there a way to mark a File as in "In ROM"? Or maybe write some data to an area that isn't wiped?
