Myself and jbelman seem to have the Dev (rooted) firmware based phones that look like they shouldn't escaped Vodafone and been purchased by the public.
I'm curious as to how many of you have the Dev firmware Build number CRA71C like jbelman and myself and how many have the "standard" version Build number CRB17? The more dev phones we find, the better chance we have in doing the customisation that the majority of HTC owners enjoy (lots of clever people on XDA-Developers...).
In case you are wondering how to do this, here it is:
Press the Menu button
Settings
Scroll down to the bottom "About Phone"
Look at the bottom of the screen starting with Model Number and post the info please.
Cheers
Dave
do expect more exploitation on the MAGIC~!
I'm just a CRB17..
And i need to change my fonts. so I need root!
ROOT access is coming

I think he knows that.... read the post
I didn't before I saw the link so no worries. Exciting isn't it! Roll on proper HTC ROMs! I had looked on the thread earlier but they were still struggling uploading the img. Confused me for a while as it's in the G1 room so never thought of checking. Glad I did now. It feels like your older brother/sister telling you the ways of the world!
Hi all... i have the CRA71C one...
Vodafone Italy (1 week old)
All of my devices are on Test Keys - and I have full root access.
I'm here at Google I/O where about 4,000 Saphires we're given out to all the attendees. All are SIM unlocked and allow loading of unsigned images (confirmed directly by Google Android devs)
Model: Google Ion
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf
[email protected] #72
Build Number: CRB28
I have the Ukranian version of the HTC Hero, which doesn't come with the marketplace. I need to get root access in order to get a workaround - but my phone will not let me do any of the steps that I have found. Here are the OS information that the phone has
Firmware - 1.5
Build - 2.73.495.24 146733 CL#67791 release-keys
I guess what I need to know is what do I need to do to get Marketplace on this phone, without serious hacking of the firmware. Is there a flashing application out there that is simple to use? Is there actually a working way to Root the phone?

Hi everyone,
I need com.android.vending.apk (aka Android Market ver 1.713) that was pushed to Android handsets about a month ago. I disabled updating on my phone so I can't get it.
Can anyone who updated to this version pull it from their phone and PM me? It shoud be located in /data/app/com.android.vending.apk
Thanks a lot!
It wasn't in /data/app, but /system/app/Vending.apk, but here it is, Google Market v1.713 yoink'd from HTC Clay's SuperBad v1.4.
Use of android marketplace on miphone
evening all,
stupid question but would it be possible to modify and use this apk on another type of android based phone in order to gain access to the android marketplace?
see ive got this android 1.5 based myphone thing thats actually reasonable for what i paid for it, but it came without access to the android marketplace.
cheers for any ideas on how to do it...
I could be wrong, but as far as I'm aware, yes, you should be able to install that .apk file and get access to the Android Market on your phone.

Oh, OK thanks a lot. I guess the cooker of SuperBad 1.4 manually put the newest version of Market to /system/app/Vending.apk
@resonant I think that you can't use this particular file, because this is the market app for Android 2.1, not 1.5.
UPDATED Aug 19, 2010: New Link, for Mirror to ROM. Original was pulled.
Get it here: http://bit.ly/cIXo91
This thread has been updated with great HOW TO VIDEO by XDA member darren rich who demystified a bunch of elements -- making this user-friendly for people with both UNBRANDED HTC Desire phones (GSM) -- and Branded phones -- which can be converted into unbranded phones first, by using the Goldcard process -- which he discusses.

This thread shows you how to update your HTC Desire GSM phone to Android version 2.2, Froyo, MANUALLY, using a WindowsPC computer, running the application "HTC Sync", connecting to your phone via USB cable. It's for usage if you have not been able to update Over The Air (OTA) -- and will provide you the exact same end result.
This is official HTC Software. This is for UNROOTED phones, phones that have only had official software that was originally installed, or OTA official updates. In other words:

You do not need to root your phone to run an RUU. These are official HTC updates that are designed for recovery or for people who cannot upgrade OTA.

RUU means "Rom Upgrade Utility" -- For unbranded phones, this process is straight forward. However if you have a branded phone, you have to add another step, and it's very important. It's also explained within...

Since this RUU is restricted to unbranded phones, you need a "goldcard" to bypass the check if you have a branded phone.

The thread combines (A) information from a previous thread posted by "football" [ROM] RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8 whichincluded the key download link to the primary Froyo file, which was posted by the good people at Shipped-Roms.com, with (B) much clarifying information from Darren and other posters from that thread.
Quick Overview
1. Download 3 files you'll need -- to a Windows machine.
a) "HTC Sync" software that runs on WindowsPCs only. It is the program that puts the initial software on your phone via USB cable.
Get it here: http://www.htc.com/europe/supportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=933
b) The main ROM -- a .exe file -- located here: (REVISED LINK as of Aug 19, 2010)
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
See that same file in full context here: (Note: Unfortunately, this page, perhaps that whole site, was pulled, Account suspended)
c) The update to the main ROM -- a zip file -- which will be copied to your phone thru USB cable, not executed thru "HTC Sync". It is located here, from HTC's site:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
2. Read Darren's Blog Post, it has good instructions.
3. Watch his Video. It's easy. You'll feel ready to go.
More Details - About That ROM:
NOTE: "HTC BRAVO" = "HTC DESIRE" . Bravo was the original codename used by HTC before the Desire was actually released. You can confirm that by looking at the "DEVICE DATABASE" that is linked to from the top of every page on XDA-developers, under the XDA logo. All versions of the HTC Bravo/ Desire.

I apologize; I do not know the answer to this. I posted this information prior to performing this installation on my own DESIRE. I will be doing that tomorrow (Sat Aug 14). The reason I posted it is that the thread it is based upon took 22 posts before it was explained WHAT it was, what it dis, how to do it. I thought it could be useful to re-package the information.
I also posted a disclaimer... But after I perform this update tomorrow, I will come back and reply here and tell you what I have found. I am assuming (but i do not know one way or another) that this will be information listed on the same screen that shows firmware version # ?
mirror for the ROM?, I get account suspended on the original link

the only file I had was the one that was originally posted and that I was able to download last week from the site listed at the top of this thread: this file name:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
and that one only. That is all I ever downloaded.
It should now be available here:

Hi, could you explain, if you know, how the two differ, and who should use which? thank you
they don't differ it's your, just made a mirror in case your link dies?
Anybody having issues on the original stock sense unrooted 2.2 ROM? In every Sense 2.2. custom rom I tried I couldn't add more than one gmail account. I then tried unrooting and did the OTA update to 2.2. Same thing, still can't add more than 1 gmail acccount.
So I downgraded and rooted again and tried OpenDesire and could add more gmail accounts without problems. Then I tried a Sense 2.2 custom ROM and again, I coudn't add more than 1 gmail account.
So now I'm thinking to do the unroot with the RUU exe and see if it helps?
How HBOOT I will have after flashing to this rom ??

yes...it´s for people who want the original...or for cookers as base...but here are may rom´s based on this...also mine...look in my signuture...(alex-v 1.4)
I tried this, but I want to root my phone now. How do I root a 2.2 desire now? Do I have to go back to 2.1 stock and then root?
Am I the last person who doesn't want a smartphone without a hardware keyboard?
My phone is permanently rooted and running Supreme Sense ROM. Since Kit-Kat is supposedly "old" phone friendly, I would like to try it.
The only page I found that gives instructions is here. It recommends using fastboot to install RUU-HTC EVO Shift 4G_One_GE-4.4-3.58.1700.5.zip but there is no link to that file.
When I go to HTCdev. com I see there are 3 files for the HTC One Google Edition with that version number that support kitkat 4.4.
Carrier, Region, Type
Google,WWE, MR
Open Market, Google WWE, Framework Support Files
Open Market, Google WWE, Stock UI
I am wondering if one of those has been modified for speedy or if the site is trying to say one of the HTC One Google Edition files will work?
My desktop meets the specs to build android. Any other ideas for a path to kitkat?
