Keep wifi on when certain programs open - General Questions and Answers

Hi, i need to keep my wi-fi and bluetooth connections open when i press the power off button on my pda which has mobile 6.0.
there is not an option in advanced config for that (it doesn't show up).
i need the bluetooth open all the time because i have it connected with a bluetooth barcode scanner, which loses synch when i close the pda.

This was posted in the wrong forum...not sure why it wasn't just moved, but I have the same question.
I also need something like this. At work, if I have my work IM client open, I need to be connected to my work wifi. However, anytime that my phone is idle, it will eventually sleep and my work clients will be disconnected.
Is there any program that will allow me to choose to keep wifi on if a certain program is open? Thanks.

I seem to have found basically what I was looking for in DontSleep + Wifi. Thanks.

DontSleep doesn't let you do that tho.. it just keeps the phone from going to sleep..

Wifi auto connect?

Hi,
I wonder if there is a way to let my machine (PDA Phone: Dopod D810 with WM6) switch on the wifi connection automatically whenever I launch a program that requires Internet access (such as the Internet Explorer).
Now when I launch the IE and type in an URL, it will automatically switch on the GPRS connection to load the page. I don't want this. I want it switch on the Wifi connection automatically instead of the GPRS.
Could anybody help?
Thanks a lot!
That's a good idea. It's very anoying that we have to manualy switch on Wifi before clicking on IE.....
There must be a way, I bet it's just a simple reg tweak.
Anyone out there care to help out?
Thanks in advance......
I use PIE a lot over EDGE, so having WiFi on evertime i start PIE would be an overkill and a waste of battery, however, what about mapping a button/key to WiFi On/Off switch? Would that be possible?

WiFi Not Auto Connecting to Home Wireless

Hi All,
Had a search but couldn't find anything relevant to my issue, here or on google.
I have wireless router at home and all of the necessary info to connect is stored on the phone. I use SPB Phone suit to switch the wireless on and off. However when I switch on I'd always expected the device to find and connect to it, and for some time this did happen. Now, however, I have to open the wifi settings and connect manually.
I quite happily informs me of other networks, but never connects to mine without a push.
Orbit 2 with shipped ROM.
Thanks
Neville

Ensure that you have your own Access Point set as preferred.
May be that you have had a wireless connection in another area.
Just be thankful it connects at all is my advice!
same here. must soft-reset the phone to connect at all sometimes.
how do i set my home wlan to be prefered?

priotize w-lan for internet connetions

-Does anyone know how to priotize w-lan for internet connections?
It seem that my phone always uses the mobile connections (GSM, 3G etc).
In menu for connections where internet connections can be created, I can't find anyting about w-lan.
This is something I've been meaning to ask about while I wait for the Fuze. By way of background, I have a Cingular 8525 with the original (WM5) ROM, and it drives me nuts using it at home. I only get EDGE inside my house, but the stupid phone persists in making an EDGE data connection instead of using the nice, fast Wifi connection that I just enabled. I use NoData to make sure it doesn't connect via EDGE or 3G, and then half the time it says it says that it can't connect -- even though the icon says that it is connected!! The only way I can reliably connect via Wifi is to go briefly into and out of flight mode, then turn on Wifi before connecting.
I'm really, really hoping that the situation is better with the Touch Pro/Fuze. Can anyone reassure me on that?
it should be accessing wifi first by default i believe...unless other connection is already connected
Hello!
Start first the WiFi Connection and then the Internet Explorer or Opera.

There's this stupid thing with wlan connections in WM - if connection type is set to 'Work', you can browse through files on other computers in (W)LAN at home, but any Internet connection wll be realised through GRPS/3G. To make it connect to the Internet using WiFi, you need to switch wifi type back to 'Internet'.
Maybe that's the thing?
Is there a way how to setup that the WiFi is connected to both (work AND internet)? I never saw WiFi connected only to work network... I assume there is no way but why not to ask ;-)
I know that many others have problem with that, but I didn't find any solution yet...
Because when I set it as work, my Exchange sync is working but no Internet, and when I switch to Internet, opera and QuickpGPS is working, but no Exchange sync (it is trying to open VPN connection because I need to go though inside address to the server because certificates and of course it cannot get it). Or I need somehow set that no VPN will be dealed on this WiFi network...
I need something like BOTH or Auto option.
It seems to be switching from Wlan to G / 3G / H when the signal is not that great. Mostly with the weather tab and Opera. Quick GPS works fine. The way I make sure it is on the internet through wlan is to shutdown the telephone and keep the wlan on with comm manager. The disadvantage is that anyone calling will be heading to your voicemail. Another option is to use the "Nodata" program, en disable to internet connections.
On Touch Pro, I usually just go to COMM MANAGER and switch on wifi and switch off data connection. It is only a couple of quick steps and saves battery, since you don't need both on, if you only want to use wifi.
I am sure there must be a more seamless solution, but I like easy fixes.

No it is not better. Turning on WiFi is not enough. It will continue to use the cellular data connection until you manually turn it off. This wouldn't be so bad, but in my experience I've had to push the button to turn off the cellular connection multiple times before it would actually do so. What would be really nice is if WM could seamlessly switch from the cellular network to WiFi, with zero user interaction, just like the iPhone does.
I got an other problem with wifi. When I establish a wifi-connection and pull my mail the ppc still connect with a data-canection and didn't use the wifi. My kaiser used the wifi-connection for that.

I wrote the original post before I had a chance to try it for myself. I've had a Fuze for three weeks now, and it works fine for me. I turn on wifi and the Fuze uses wifi. I turn it off and it goes back to normal wireless. (I did do the registry edits to turn on the HSDPA stuff in the connections tab and enabled the modified connection icons in the menu bar. I don't know if that had any effect on this issue or not, but it does what I would expect now.)

Problems with BT, AS, and WiFi while connected to 3G

I've been triying to figure this out for awhile but here's the basics of what's going on:
I have a Japanese HTC Touch Pro, (and yes EVERYTHING is in Japanese, but this doesn't really bother me.) We don't have MMS over here, so we use a constant 3G connection and mopera U to push email to the phone.
So, when i'm in my Comm Manager I have a Data connection on as well as the phone connection.
If I try to turn on my WiFi it will turn off after 3 seconds (just enables it and disables it)
If I try to use my bluetooth connection, same thing (enables BT, then turns it off again)
If I connect my phone to my PC via USB it will try to connect at first, but will suddenly disconnect after a few seconds.
Well, I figgured out that Active Sync won't allow the connection while the phone portion is turned on. Easy enough, I turn my phone into flight mode and it connects just fine and syncs. While this is a tad retarded, I will accept it.
However, In order to get bluetooth to work, i need to disable the 3G connection. Now.. here's what I don't like:
I *HAVE* to have my data connection for email/internet or anything. But, the phone will only seem to allow either the Data connection through the 3G OR bluetooth/wifi, not both.
Now, if I have BT enabled first, then try to establish the data connection I get an error telling me it cannot connect to the 3G network, same effect though, it will try.. just won't allow it.
What really makes me mad is i'm not wanting to have it networked to anything, I just wanna pair it with a headset so I can listen to the mp3 player while on the train and send out emails from my phone.
I tried calling HTC (good help that was) about it, and they suggested hard reseting the phone, soft reset, ect ect.. There's not really a problem, i'm sure there's just a setting somewhere to allow the multiple connections at one.
Does anyone know of any tricks or ANYTHING I can do so I can use my phone the way it was intended?
Did you ever find an answer to this? I am having a similar problem with my Fuze. When bluetooth is enabled, eventually the phone begins to refuse to open a data connection. :-(
No, i never found an answer. I'm not tech savvy enough to find it out.
But its REALLY annoying. I just want to use my USB headset, not connect bluetooth to any network or route messages that way.
Not sure if this is the fix to your problem, but this helped me when Wifi kept turning off, its a setting in WinMoDevCenter, it stops all data connections when connected to sync
in WinMoDevCentre go to Mobile Device settings -> Connection Settings -> Allow Data connections (last check box)
after that i was able to use wifi while plugged in just fine

Prevent Desktop-Passthrough with 6.5.x

Hi All,
I'm running Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and am having a pain of a time locating the concept of this.
What I am trying to do is the following:
1. Plug my phone into my computer and activesync.
2. Allow for My Mobiler to access and control my phone.
3. Prevent my Phone from accessing network resources via my computer.
4. When I surf, have my phone use its data connection, not Desktop-Passthrough.
I want the benefits of charging and remote control of the phone, with the benefits of text messaging/surfing/email as on-device data.
I've tried setting the allowLSP to be 0, 01 and 10. No success.
My litmus test is tcpview to see whether or not the end-point is being shown on my computer.
I've done alot of searching, xda, ppcgeeks, google and microsoft. But, no success yet.
Thanks.

Doesn't Active sync ask you (during partnership set up) if you want to have data and calls enabled while connected to it?

It does, but even with the phone data on, it still pushes through to my PC unfortunately. I do appreciate that you brought that up though.

Can you just turn off the data connection of your PC? (pull the ethernet cable or disable the wifi card if you have one)
bump... i would like an answer
I was serching Google for the same reason as the OP, saw there was no answer and a while later figured it out by myself so I thought I would share: in AS connetion settings
check allow wireless connections and select work instead of automatic for the Computer connection. When I use Opera through MyMobiler, it launches my 3G connection instead of using the crappy Internet connection with lots of limitations that I have at the office
