First of all... let me address this before someone rips you apart here. Your question (if it is one) is a bit difficult to read. I am certainly not an english teacher but maybe a period here and there would make it easier to understand. Because I honestly don't know if you are asking a question, stating that you're having a problem with reflashing, going back to factory settings or other. I mean I had to read it 5 times!
Secondly... if you do a factory restore from the settings and you get the flashing android on boot you should let it keep flashing for a few minutes. You need to be patient because it is wiping all of your previous data/settings and restoring them to default.
Third. If it stays on the flashing android for longer then say three to five minutes (depending on how much you need to wipe) then go ahead and boot up in recovery mode and do a wipe from there. If you still get stuck on the flashing android then yes... reflash.
Fourth. Do not assume it is an app that causes this problem unless you are CERTAIN of it. Hundreds if not thousands of people have downloaded this app (including myself) and have not had a similar problem. Maybe do a search for the app name and read what people are saying about it. If it is the app then believe me you won't be the only one commenting. If you're lucky there will be a fix so you won't have to wipe or reflash.
Finally... every so often (especially before making a major change like apps to sd, themes, etc) it'll be a good idea to do a backup with Nand so even if you do end up messing something up (by app or user error) you can always reflash your image to your phone.
Good luck!
EDIT: Whoops! Wrong thread!
I'm very sorry for my poor English but my story is after installing ahome
everything was fine until I rebooted my phone. After rebooting the phone I
tried dialing a number and when I pressed a number once the it would dial
the number twice for example when dialing 7 instead of only dialing the
number 7 it would dial 77, or when using useful switchers turning off the wifi I
would try to check the wifi on but with one push it would check and uncheck
the wifi. Later I did a factory data reset and rebooted the phone I couldn't get
past the flashing android. I reverted back to stock rc33 just in case its a
hardware problem I can let t-mobile know thanks for the replies
i doubt it's a hardware problem.
i had the same problem, coincidentally after installing aHome; i was unable to get past the "flashing android" screen. The first reboot that i did, though, was after using the JF auto-updater app, so i'm not entirely sure where the problem lies.
long story short, i wiped my system, and am now in the process of installing Windows and the Android SDK to my system so i can do a restore.
thanks im gonna go back to root then
yeah, aHome still has lots of thigns to be fixed specially that force close issue every time u return to home :/ i liek dxtop better dont feel like scrolling tru 10 pages like the iphone..

I'm not sure it has to do with this, but I flashed my NAND with nandroid with one from a different G1.
and one of the axes in the accelerometer doesn't work at all (its stuck).
any idea how to fix this ? (again,i'm not sure the nand has to do with this)
I had the same problem and ended up just doing a whip and setting everything back up. I had a black G1 that I traded for a White one. It might of also been that i flashed a different version of JF on it was well but wasnt worth the time to flash back to 1.41 nand retore and then flash to 1.42. It only really took me about 15 mins to reinstall all the apps and setup options.
i think i read somewhere that accalerometer doesnt work with nandroid.... mine stopped working this week- just did a wipe and a reflash and it works fine now.....
Can Someone help me? I was playing Labyrinth and when I finish, the accelerometer has stopped working. It does not work with anything, either games or any application. nybody know how to reactivate? Thanks.
PS. I Dont make any mod on G1. It is R33 version.
PS2: It never dropped.
Hmmmm, this happened out of the blue for me a long time ago. I think I had to reinstall the firmware, and maybe even a wipe. Been fine ever since...

Accelerometer probelm - Just happened to my rooted rc33
Hey gents, this just happened to my rooted g1 yesterday.
The accelerometer now only works on one axis. I'm pretty sure its a software issue. I tested the accel using Api demo's OS/sensors. The one graphical output and the three dials at the top. The graph changes and registers the change when i rotate it but it just doesn't want to work with any programs that use the accel. ie labrynth, bubble level etc.
I'd really like to know what happened, what caused this. I didn't drop my phone or do anything of the sorts. I did max out my memory installing too many apps that day but I couldn't see that affecting it.
***re-installing is not an option if this constantly happens. I don't have a data plan to keep logging into the start screen every time I wipe my unit. I know there's a thread about getting around this but I'm still not to comfortable using the sdk.
I haven't tried to wipe and reinstall via recovery mode yet. I was wondering though,
1. how do i find out what version of jesus freak rc33 i have. I think Its 1.41 but I forget and just looking at the buildnumber i can't figure it out. and are the newer versions better should i be upgrading?
2. Is there anyway to fix this with a reinstall. Is there anyway to examine the accel. data readout or code.
3. If not, should i just try wiping and reinstalling the same version of jf rc33 or do i have to reinstall a packaged (oem) version of rc33 and loose root (i don't want that to happen, root is a necessity for me )
I'll glady post my findings and even write up the step step process. I just need some answers first.
Thanks for you help (your form seems to be the only place i get solid answers about my phone) http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
this happened to mine a while back. a wipe and reflash fixed it. use mybackup to quickly get back to where you were.
this just happened to me the other day i posted here about it but it might of been deleted as i was the only one to post and answered my own question through trial and error.
you might try the app bubble it might allow you to calibrate it (i didn't know this until i read it somewhere this morning) other than that when i had the issue i just reinstalled everything the old fashioned way one apk at a time although first you would need to alt+w in the loader menu then install the latest jf update
Well, I've gotten my tablet for 5 days now and have been playing with it a lot, tried all the different ROMS, anyways, upon receiving the tablet, pretty much nothing worked, e-mail app wont launch at all, a lot of the stuff in the settings crashed when I try to change them, just figured something out today after going back to stock rom, I formatted the internal storage and did a factory reset. Upon startup, I notice that it went through a TnT wizzard which I never got when I first received the tablet, and e-mail and all other apps are now working, and no more FC (still crappy, but atleast it works). I really think this is the problem viewsonic has, the devices didn't come factory reset, or atleast mine didn't anyone else's tablet didn't run the setup wizzard when you first received it, or is it just me? Because I really think they would have a lot less returns if all tablets came and started the setup wizzard on boot up as mine didn't have any problems at all after the reset/format. I tried the 3361 update and wow, its actually decent now, VS is definitely listening to the community when they added the ability to use the regular launcher.

Mine did not perform setup wizard as the manual said it would on first boot. As others have reported, about 20+ FC on first boot. I will try the factory reset to see if that helps like it did for you.

When I returned my first GTab to Sears I did a factory reset. When the person at the store opened the the box and turned it on it didn't go to the wizard. I believe that the power button can activate during shipping and after a certain amount of time it skips the wizard and then shuts off. VS should put a piece of paper inside the box with instructions on doing a factory reset FIRST. This could solve a ton of problems for new customers
There's a new one out - just see the vanilla ROM's section in the faq, in my sig. I'm going to post a link to the new ROM, shortly.

I already gave them links to the FAQ, new stock fw, and two threads for flashing original stock fw...
To get the setup Wizzard you must first Format you Internal Storage (Settings -> Storage), then do a factory reset (Security -> Reset to Factory). Once you do this the gTablet will shut itself down, then when you start it up you will get the wizzard, just doing a factory reset alone will not do this, you must format the storage + factory reset. Anyways, all the FC I had prior to doing this are now gone, I really think that after doing Quality control at the factory, they never did these steps and so the tablet comes borked with bad softare which can easily be fixed with this 30 second format/reset.
Just picked up the Viewsonic G Tablet. Got it back to my office, charged it, powered it on and the first thing i see is force close...wtf!
I am new to all of this so any suggestions need to be rather detailed.
Thanks

If you can get to the factory reset in the settings menu that would the first thing to do. And then check for an update. Make sure you set the wifi to not turn off and I would keep the screen from shutting off while downloading the update. Check in settings "about Device". If your not 3389 or higher then you need to update
I had this problem back in November when I first got my tab. Even though nothing seemed to work right, I was able to connect it to my desktop and push across clockworkmod v .08 and a custom rom. So, I never used the original rom more than 10 minutes.
If you can't get it connected while booted in original rom, then Bekit's NVFLash full restore procedure works really well. Just follow the steps carefully and it's a quick and painless factory reset to a known working rom.
These things are virtually unbrickable (is that a word?).

badfrog is correct. If you factory reset the device it should be fine from there - then you set up your wifi and get the update.
Go into your app drawer and choose Settings. I don't remember if you can do it from the menu button as I'm on a different launcher.
Inside Settings go to Security and select Factory Data Reset. Do this, the unit will reboot and come back up at which point you'll be asked to set it up. It may take some time. Set your Date and Time correctly and set up your Wifi and such.
Once that's done you'll likely get a prompt to update very soon after Wifi connects. DO NOT DO IT, yet.
Within Settings, go into Display and set the Display Timeout to Never.
This ensures that the tablet doesn't sleep or turn off your wifi while it's downloading the update. It's not likely to happen but if your connection is on the slow side and the timeout is set too low, it can mess things up.
Once you've done that, proceed to let the tablet update itself. Again, it may take a bit of time.
Once it's done, make sure you take not of what you have. You'll find this information under Settings in the About section. The last version I got was 3389 - but something newer MAY be there for you. If you get anything less than 3389 then you will have to wait until you get another notification for an update. I don't remember how they work - but I THINK you should get the newest one there.
Once you've confirmed you're on the most current build, It may not be absolutely necessary to do it, but I would factory reset again just to clear the 'gunk' of the older TnT out in case there is actually any.
When I got mine and powered it on the 1st time, I got a bunch of FCs. I powered off and then on, and no more FCs, and it was fine after that. I think I posted asking about that, and someone (roebeet, I think) said it was a known problem. I don't remember the TNT version, but it was the one before 3389, or one before the one before 3389.
Jim
It is a known problem, especially with the older firmware. Sometimes the FC's are so bad that you can't even get into the settings to do a data wipe.
I've actually called CS about this, as an example of why they need an offline updater of some kind to get around issues like these. Suggestion: if you don't want to install clockworkmod, at least try to update the firmware to the latest and greatest, via one of the newer stock ROMs we're retrieved:

That might get you enough access to get into the Settings menu and do the factory restore.
I didnt root or unlock it myself.... im pretty sure i wiped all data before flashing the rom i have on there now, but i cant remember for sure....
seems to be the only way to truly fix my extremely messed up WIFI situation... (wifi kills my phone completely... regardless of whose internet as i tried my neighbours and got the same error). i did a restore to last year but it only fixed it for a day... if im gonna restore to a year ago again, i figure i may as well do a full fresh install, since its crapping out still anyway
i have something called superuser (i know is root access), and something called stk which ive read is sim toolkit, in "system/app" they are both apk's. "superuser.apk" and "stk.apk"
also, will my custom recovery be gone? as far as i remember that is how i flashed my ROM last time... but its been so long i cant remember...
Let me try helping since myself new on forums:-
There are two types of phone resets available- 1.Factory wipe from settings of phone/from custom recovery (cwm/twrp) or 2.Complete wipe performed such as in upgrading os version of android (like i did lollipop from jellybean). The complete wipe is done in custom recovery only under mounts and advance option in cwm and then wiping cache, system, data and everything else. If you do so,you will be losing everything installed in your phone EXCEPT Root and Custom recovery.
Back to your question, if you perform factory reset,NO,you don't lose root. If you do complete wipe from recovery, still you don't lose root of your phone UNLESS you fix the root on reboot.
Choose the reset carefully before installing any rom, read their steps,if they ask full wipe or just factory reset and dalvik cache.
Hope it helps.

you cannot unroot yourself thru factory reset

Factory reset WILL:
Remove all apps and their data
Contacts that are not on the SIM card
(In some rare cases) Pictures, music...
Factory reset WILL NOT:
Remove carrier unlock
Remove root (but may remove superuser app)
Remove the recovery
In case that superuser app is gone, just install that same superuser app from Google Play and update it if it asks to do so.
Ok, let me ask this, to ask if its even worth me doing....
last night i did the same restore to a year ago... except this time while i still had wifi i had downloaded both avast and AVG
I can with both now, and my phone says its clean...
but yet the problem is recurring now, and wifi, 4g, tethering..... basically any function that connects me to the world outside completely craps out my phone...
i thought the restore, and especially he restore and downloading antivirus would fix it, or at least be able to tell me WHAT the problem is... avast will scan the wifi network, but of course this test now freezes up just the same cuz it has to turn on wifi to do so.... while it was still working this test did execute just fine with no errors....
its as soon as internet is connected... for 3g or even my router, it will read it without the internet feed plugged in. but plug that in and it all goes to crap again. Id just hate to do a full fresh install just for it to all go to crap *again*....
ive scanned all computers on the router and those come back clean/no viruses... i tried i different router with internet, same error. i tried the neighbours connection.... same thing again.
this is really baffling.
so i feel more comfortable doing a factory reset....... but i guess im wondering is will it help me??? at all????
whatever this is is clearly not an infected device as some on another forum had thought.... something *else* is going wrong....

Factory reset fixes all problems that were not made with root. You will not lose root either. For a total fix just wipe everything and reflash rom.
Right now im trying a different router, which doesnt have any windows XP machine plugged into it, and i made it extremely secure. even changed the default username and password to get onto the router itself (never bothered with the other one, the one i had been routinely using)... I did a complete reset of this router before even connecting to it with my phone, after it was secured. the other regular one still has everything else connected to it. this one is literally a separate connection, which i named "phone test" lol.
if it makes no difference, total fresh install is my last resort. if it *does* make a difference however... then something in my other regular router is messed up that cause my phones connections to freeze up - but that avast or AVG wouldnt detect (thats the only weird part)...
i even did a scan of my external SD card the other day, thats clean too.
time will tell, im approaching the 24 hour mark with this new setup. if by tomorrow its freezing up again, its not the router. but if its still working, ill have extreme suspicion that it was in fact, the router, probably something dealing with my XP machine thats plugged into it (well, normally anyway).
Time will tell...
im also trying to remember which apps i had updated before any problems started in case there are any corrupted updates i installed, without knowing it. (legit from play store, but still, ive heard that doesnt always mean totally safe, cuz anyone can make them)
Dude, wipe data, cache, system, reflash rom on your phone. BUM, problem fixed.
I still may, but i wanted to play around with the routers first to see if i could fix the problem.... that way id know i wouldnt be fully wiping for no apparent reason. if in a week or so things have been fine and i try connecting to the old regular router... than ill know its something on there infecting my phone... id rather not have a fresh install crapping out on me.
You can do a nandroid backup and then reflash everything. That way if you screw something up or the problem is not fixed you can restore in minutes.
Gday everyone.
I just got this phone and since it was first powered on I've had issues. I will likely be going back to the carrier tomorrow and asking for a replacement, but wanted to put my experience down here. Ive looked at a lot of other threads, but all of them involve unlocking of bootloader, flashing etc - I havent done ANY of this (yet). Its fresh out of the box.
Location: Australia
Carrier: Optus
Model: MHA-L09 (cant access extended model number)
So first up, had issues connecting to the carriers in-store wifi, which uses a captive portal.
When I finally got it going I was presented with a Chinese site - id accept this usually considering it is Huawei.
This phone is a replacement for my dead Note4 and as such I wanted to restore apps, as I had no internet, I skipped the process.
Got back to my office and connected to my wifi fine, so decided to factory reset to get a fresh start.
Noticed that after reset the initial process was in a different order. Restored from Google and all apps downloaded, happy days for a couple of hours, just waiting for my service to port over.
2 hours later, I decide to restart the phone, it gets hung up on the Optus logo which is displayed before the reboot starts.
Hard reboot.
System loads, I figure I may as well see about a firmware update. Get 'Package installer isn't responding' errors. Try again, works, no updates available.
Go to google photos, get 'Package installer isn't responding' error.
At this point I think, f**k - what is going on here.
So I reboot into recovery to wipe the cache. This processes fine, but then the option to reboot the phone doesn't work.
Hard reboot.
Boots into recovery without me touching it.
Hard reboot. - happens again.
So then I think, fine ok, I've upset the balance, lets do a factory reset.
Factory reset hangs on 99% for over 30 minutes.
Against better judgement - hard reboot.
Now I have the EMUI logo with a nice round 0% under it... and that's where its staying.
Thoughts?
I have to fly interstate on the weekend and cant really afford unreliable comms. Should I ditch the Huawei?
Thanks all.
So - it seems that nowhere did i find a mention of the fact that if i plug it into my PC and goto the recovery mode, it loads eRecovery. Whilst this didnt actually work (I believe it only works for CN firmware) It did give me a shutdown option. I shut it down and started it again and im back into a fresh install.
Lets see how I go now...
Never restore backups from other phone.
Wow, helpful.
I didn't restore the backup from another phone, just apps, ie google downloaded the apps I selected.
The device is still performing poorly, even a standard reboot does not succeed, instead it hangs on the carrier logo before actually rebooting.
Ill take it back to the store tomorrow and ask for another one, im hoping Ive just gotten a dud.
