US Number format only on adp 1.1 h - G1 Android Development

Hi everybody I have a dev phone with JFv43 adp 1.1 h rom
I live in france and I wanted to know if there was a solution to have a more european number format?
it's kinda disturbing when dialing a number to see number like
123-456-7890
Maybe I should just install an UK version but since I have a dev phone I wanted to know if I could just modify some config files

I have made a image that is a mix of holiday and RC9 which solves this, If you are intrested drop me a message.

anyway you could host on rapidshare mate?

Sorry for double post but.. Is this just JFsAPD1.1h With a rc 9 input entry method? Because i would really appreaciate been able to keep my adp to a JF ADP build but with using euro input
Because, When i tried to do this.. it just crashed on install lol

I'd quite like to know the process you went through to change to the european number system.

+1
Me too would like ADP 1.1 with UK dial pattern

Intersted !

WOW lol It's my idea !!!!
First first first !!

Hi, I have it working but not on the LucidREM (apps on SDCard) version yet, this is mainly because I dont have anything that can read microSD yet (well other then the phone and cant set up the partitions on that) I will try and get my hands on a microSD to SD thingy and put links to both versions when I have it working. Lol never knew the dial pattern anoyed anyone else but me

Oh trust me my fellow androider! You are not alone, That thing is possibly the only reason i kept wanting to update back to RC9 Alot, But Forced my self to stay on ADP I mean, I pay for a phone.. And im actually with tmobile, (Stupid. I know? Just get a G1 right.? Wrong! I dont live in a area with good T-Mobile Signal at work.. So i have to switch sims, Annoying but, Thats the only way + I wasnt Eligable for a upgrade yet.. anyhow, Less bout my life) Just to say, I'd love to be 1st in on testing this lol
(But, Is there 2 separate Versions.. I hate Having Apps on SD Card IMHO its just too much of a pain when i swap my mem card round... Mehh, Fussy? But What can i do
Anyway, Hit us up when its uploaded I'd love to see this working on my G1, Show off to my mates who think its annoying! LIKE UP YOURS DUDE!! ITS ENGLISH

Hi peeps,
Just to let you know these images are a mix of ADP1.1h and RC9 so I can't claim its one or the other they both fix the US Dialer and other local issues. A few people have expressed an intrested in what I did to make this so I will do a write up soon (its not really that intresting to be honest)
***The Links***
http://chrishowells.co.uk/JFv1.43_HolidayRC9_enuk.zip (Normal JF Image, Busybox, Latitude, Voice Search, UK Dialer)
http://chrishowells.co.uk/JFv1.43_HolidayRC9_MOD_enuk.zip (LucidREM Image, BusyBox, Apps to SD, Latitude, Voice Search, UK Dialer)
I have removed the Amazon MP3 Store from both of the images as it only works in the US and if you want a UK Dialer I assume you don't live there
I have took Terminal Emulator out of the 'Normal' Image so you can get the updated version from the market and use that that instead. I have left it in the LucidREM image because if you download it and then use the script to copy it to SD card it ends in a bang. I will at somepoint just stick the new version into to LucidREMs image so it installs from update.zip and you won't get the update available anymore.
Again thanks to JF for making all the posh images to start with and to LucidREM for adding Apps to SD Support I am currently using your lovely work at the moment
As always let me know what you think of my changes and if you have any problems with it.
Peepo

Just a quick question, will this overcome the problem I'm having with the voice dialler giving US number format and messing it all up?

haha As first tester of these images Let me tell you it worked like a charm
Since I'm french i don't use voice dialer and my english is not good enough to start speaking with my phone in english
i've just made a try it seems to be good on voice dialer.

Not tried it on voice dialer yet. I am currently on a train so would look pretty silly trying it now will let you know soon.

As far as I can tell voice dialer is showing numbers in none US format, however it's still as useless as its always been at getting the number right

thanks for the info folks. Pity the voice function isn't as good as on my Nokia N95 8GB!

Wow! Thanks

Hi ive updated from the newest adp to your uk version (normal not lucid) and im not seeing the change in the dialer.
Do i NEED to do a wipe? as i'd prefer not to.
Thanks

Not 100% sure about that one I have been changing my image so often over the past few days I've been wiping all the time. I am currently using the normal one again and I do have the UK dialer but that was after a wipe.

Had to do a wipe and then i got the new layout. Now it doesnt have any formatting. i guess thats a good thing!
Still would like to be illuminated on your process since in theroy JF will be coming out with a new version soon

g1 rooted.. what now?

Hey, I've finally got around to getting root access on the g1, I've got the multi touch which I think is pretty cool and auto rotate. What else could I do with my new found freedom? Getting apps to install to memory card is next on the list (will do it tonight if I can get my head around the instructions) but is there anything else I can do that's useful or any cool ? Also what can I do if I install debian, anything at this point? Think that's about it.. thans in advance.... dan
Themes, maybe. Give your G1 a unique look.
I'm sure you may have them already but download screenshot and task manager. I would definatly go for a theme, there are some really awesome ones out there. You can delete unwanted ringtones, alarms, notifications too like i did!
tether start
tether stop
making my phone a wireless modem/router was pretty much the whole reason i took root.
help with 4 really needed
1)im looking for theme but being a uk (rc8) user there doesnt seem to be much of a selection out there
2)ive not actually got screenshot will grab that and task manager
3)I was under the impresion the tethering wasnt too great and we wernt able to share the internet connection from the phone (to access everything at least) wirelessly or wired? Please correct me if Im wrong as this would be ace.
4)Im trying to install a custom boot image however im not able to get the androids with skates up (definatly had this earlier) yet the recovery images seems ok, have installed hard spl.. am a bit confused on this on, anyone able to help?
Cheers.
ok well i got the tethering done an im impressed does all i need it too.. shame its not secure but im not all that worried .
just incase anyone wants the instructions i found them here:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f28/im-wirelessly-tethering-through-my-g1-11555/
yup my main reason for the root acces was themes and tether
Right I've managed to get a theme on here but I don't seem to have browser auto rotate or multi touch, anyone have any ideas? Cheers again
I'm new to all this too, and had the same thought immediately after getting root for the first time! One of the first things i did was put caches onto the sd card. If you are always getting low memory warnings than this will help! I followed THIS guide to do it.
I will try my first theme tonight after I charge up my phone.
I guess a question I have is, what are the benefits of adp 1.1 and Fastboot? Is it something that I should do or just something that I could do, if that makes any sense? Right now just putting JF's 1.41 rc30 on is a big enough deal, to give you an idea of where I am in regards with this scene right now.
Thanks!
Install HardSPL, it can come in handy if something goes wrong and you need it to flash boot screens.

If you install a new theme on JF 1.41 you will loose multitouch and autorotate. Here is a link to JF's browser.apk to fix your problem. hope this helps.

Native MSN/AOL/YAHOO Messenger Without sms, Almost working.. Help appreciated:)

Hey You might remember me? i was the guy who tried (and failed mind that) to port the ophone, and my laptop burned out on me....
*you shall be missed
, right ill cut a long story short, me beeing a UK resident means i cant use the native IM.apk over here no matter what, then i remembered back to the days of JF and his RC8 builds worked with the built in IM app with a little tool called Droidsans Tweaktools
and it wasnt untill now i had a major idea, But then i hit a wall it backfired on me and thats where i need some help
See, i took the JFRC8 build enviroment , Got cyanongens 3.4.6 build and replaced the apps, But this is what baffles me right here? why wont it boot after i've signed it? (and wiped) Ive copied across all these files
- added com.android.term.apk to /system/app
- IM.apk
- IMCredentialProvider.apk
- IMProviders.apk
- com.amazon.mp3.apk
- added VoiceDialer.apk, which was built from the source in git

Still no luck... its either this or somehow i could be pointed into the direction of how the cracked .odex file that made it use data instead of sms actually worked ... now, I dont know how hard it would be but i have to original .odex file ripped straight from the droidsans app with me here, if anyone wants me to upload it?
I can also upload the update.zip im trying to use with alot of fail? just incase you guys wanna look at it?
Guys i've hit a brick wall here, i know its not the smartest thing in the world as i can hear the thousands of
use ebuddy, use blaablaablaa
Click to collapse
But i just want to say i always found the original to be the best and this has been the mayjor downfall in all the new builds is that its never going to work with the new IM apps, but the old one, worked better anyway!
anyone like to give us a few pointers? i pulled the .apks straight out of JFs build env
BTW, i have searched, nothing came close to a reall answer, they all said email droidsans i have with no luck, ive tried my self, close sometimes, but no cigar really, so.. now i ask you... anyone? what have i done wrong?
*please dont move this post, it does concern Android develepment
A quick note on the side, i did include a theme into the update.. would it be wise to start again, take out my music player from hero and just copy over one file at a time? I dont know why but IM.apk, Causes a crash no matter what?
Started again, this time just the full monty no theme no music just added im files flashing now
Result time......
Nope failed

Should i take out the apks that are dependednt on the new im? any pointers as to which ones i should remove, this whole thing was a sudden inspiration of annoyedness at all the ims on the market :L
OK BREAKKTHROUGH!! Here we have it.. my idea, the idea im going to use just after my phone boots up (new update, just hero theme and music player)... put the IM.apk and other files on the sd, then we have both new and old ims and the odex file goes on the sd too,, its so perfect its untrue, i jut hope it works
SUCSESSS!!!! No longer am i gettting the dreaded not a tmobile sim bla bla bla message, comment me if u want me to explain how i did it, (Mind this howevr, im still waery i havent yet been able to sign in because of tmobiles awfull 3g in my area, but its a working progress and im sure its working now )
Scrap that, it didnt work... hmmm this is fustrating me, all i need is to sucessfully port that IM app over and ill have cracked it!!!
Running out of space so sorry for the double post but im off for an interview...
ILL get home around 23:00 GMT (off out after ) So, ill upload my results on how MSN has acted throughout the day and how well it runs
This will be a 2 part process, it will require you to adb some files across and A2SD is required, Ill explain all when i get home if its all still running
I've contacted Cyanogen and asked him whether he whould be intrested in this ill notify as soon as i get a reply :d
I'm very interested in this!!!!
Please, write an howto!!!!
Am i missing somthing?
I maybe missing somthing here but I'm in the UK and I use the IM app for MSN and AOL. Im. Using cyan 3.5.2 at present. What's the difference between what I do and what you want to do?
If you aren't a T-Mobile customer you cannot connect...
I'm a tmobile customer in the uk and I've never been able to use the native msn, it says my number is unable to be read from the sim card.
I hope you can get this working, if its anything like the native google talk app it would beat using meebo for msn!

Basicly it is the native google talk app, im having a few difficulties with getting the file across and have android sucsesfully boot with it there, but it really cant be that hard
Maybe you should try JF's dex decompiler and try to hack the latest IM.apk instead?
Or actually getting the source for the IM.apk from android.com would be easier!
Then maybe you could remove the number sim card check so we can just bypass it?

Im going to try working on this now, dont know much but im gonna give it my best shot... also im going to clean up the 1st post... the more idea's i can get the easier it will be for this to happen, my current plan is to take a build, look insidde IM.apk with a tool like winrar just like i do to theme and see some clues as to what makes it force to use sms then try change it to use data instead... i hope it works

Which is why i regret to inform, this isnt going to be the easy fix i imagined, It turns out all i did last time was get lucky when i flashed it accros, i got the old im.apk, rebooted and it stalled on android screen so thats deffo a no go
im going to try the new IM.apk idea now wish me luck
I think i've made progress.. inside the IM.apk theres a file called android manifest
inside there theres alot! and i mean ALOT!! of text, but heres the best bit,

Ok even more progress, turns out, I know whats changed now between 1.1 and1.5 i think, Theres a new file called TmobileImplugin.apk or someting similar, im guessing that now MSN lies in there ?
I live in Australia and used to be able to get the native IM client to work over WiFi, but even that doesn't work anymore, but that might have something to do with the internet permission??

I've decompiled the latest APK ermm.. now where do i start :L:L
maybe cyanogen would be the one to ask, i think a lot of his rom is made up from the latest source that he compiles
I decompiled the TmoImPlugin and there is nothing in there at all that implements any of the IM protocols for data like Oscar. It's all just proxies to TMO services.
Does that mean the checks aren't done in the app but on the server?
Good Job
Keep up the good work. I would also like to see this working. Meebo has been on the fritz lately.

[SJK] Gonzo WM 6.5.1 build 23070/23071 updated yet again with new apps & boot screen
I have updated this thing using the 23070/23071 build in Ivan's Super Just Kitchen. I wanted to contribute something to the community for those who are either new to flashing their Wing, or those who don't have a regular SD card and can't do a HardSPL. It's got just the basics to get one by. www.thewingster.com is a great place to find additional apps for your phone like Office and Adobe Reader.
Below is some details regarding this latest creation.

Suggestions and tutorials are welcome... after all I am still a Noob, I promise this ROM will not set your wing on fire. Credit goes to Ivanmmj for all his hard work into the kitchen! Also credit goes out to the artists who designed the pics I used for the boot, welcomehead, and wallpaper
I am still trying to figure out how to edit the default home screen with different things. Cause IE is lamzor is the favorites...but you can't edit the favorites....I guess I will have to turn into a forum troll.
Your guess is as good as mine, I manually put in that wall paper after flashing. But that would be another thing I would like to know as well hehe

Good lookin out on that info man. Now I know (and knowing is half the battle). I'll have a 23081 build up later on today hehe.
UPDATE: 23081 has it's ups and downs, I am still tryin to work out some bugs (SIP switching issue, and shortcut problem). Not sure if I should just go with EZinput or still work on fingerkb... the shortcuts is a whole different problem. Time is somewhat of an issue as well. Perhaps I should try beefing up 23071, I dunno at this point...
ANOTHER UPDATE: decided against throwing 23081 up coz it's not respecting my authority! but enjoy my latest creation
I really like this ROM but when it is installed I can not get online, if I use the Glass ROM or the original I get online no problem until I install this one I am probally not doing something right
From what I notice I guess some ROM's already have carrier settings plugged into them. I've got a thread over here that should help u get back online.

hey do i need to format to fat32 and flash to sd for this update??
The thing is designed to be used through the RUU, but if you want I don't see any issue with flashing through an SD card.
Make sure you're Hard_SPL, and as long as your card is a regular Micro SD and not SDHC... have at it.
I should really throw a new release out there

Swype from 2.07 rom required

HI can anyone tell me where to get new skype from 2.07 rom ???
thanks in advance.
You won't find anyone with it here. The best solution is to simply flash to a ROM that has it.
I have so much data on phone can't backup all of it so dont wana change rom for time being........
Im not sure where to grab the version of swype that has been extracted from the 2.07 rom... i am trying to find it myself!
The swype cab created from the version ripped from the Samsung Omnia 2 is all over the web though... google should bring up a couple of places to download it from.
Does anyone know of any differences between the two versions?

You will have to search in the underground... Extracting the software and offering it as a cab is clearly not wanted by the creators and owners of the software. Offering links to warez is completely against xda rules.
The difference between the 2 might be some more language support, and that the HD2 version was made for HD2, as simple as that. I think it still might be an option to flash a ROM which carries it on board - or, at least, as long as this is tolerated.
Maybe in the close future, HTC will bring another ROM update which offers this great piece of software. Or, as stated otherwise, Swype might decide to make a retail offer at some time. If they do at a decent price, I believe they could do great business - as seen with other products, at unreasonably high prices, you won´t sell big, but at fair pricing, you can succeed.
I cannot find the new version anywhere!
If anyone has a link or would like to email it to me that would be very much appreciated!!

I had the same thing, only installed yesterday so didn't do much checking of the phone. Quite a few problem were caused by the T-Mobile version . Data connection is screwed and all email passwords needed to be reset and my Wifi password are also gone lol. Did some reading online as well and quite a few other people have experienced the same problems, some have even had to HARD RESET to get their phones working correctly, fortunetly for me just uninstalling the CAB and giving the phone a few minutes resolved my Data connection issues , will put back on the Omnia version and leave it at that for the time being.
So I advice using the newest version of Swype with EXTREME caution!!!!
I tried it after much hesitation... Had to do a new setup for all email accounts, data connection and wifi connection. But it seems to be fine now, I'll see in a few days if it stays like that.
I'm using SWYPE WVGA 3.9.10.10.5032 on my HD2 without any problems.

Had the same, but all I had to do was re-enter the passwords (and mail servers for gmail) and re-run the connection setup wizard. Now I'm fine and dandy and the software is nothing short of awesome... Supports Italian, German, French, English and Spanish; I tested all languages and it works fine
I'd say it is a crucial addition to the HD2, as I use it every day, and it makes my text input much less of a chore. It is particularly useful because of its multi-language support. I've never had any problems like those described, thankfully.
have you guys done any soft resets since the initial reset after installation? I also found the keyboard became slow to start after I played with the setting. the omnia 2 version is working better for me and with the htc skin looks awesome.

I can't believe no one else posted this...
If you overwrite the ModelID with the file provided, you are effectively telling your phone that you are now....a...tmobile hd2.
The swype keyboard has protection in it...only a tmobile hd2 will work with it.
hence why you need the modelid
now here is the kicker...
Say sprint - you run sprint tv. get an error. wanna know why? sprint asks "what phone" and your phone replies "tmobilehd2.
Same thing with prl updates...
I think you get the point...
when you overwrite the modelid, all exchange accounts - gone (sorta). Your 4 digit pin become a lockout - no pin will unlock it.
in short, bad things happen.
And this is why you always provision your phone before you set it up. part of provisioning is setting the modelid...
which is why people on mighty that forgot to provision before seting up exchange need that fix e-mails cab...
any questions?

@leepriestenator, if I don't use any provider software, I can install swype without any problem right ?
leepriestenator is correct. Thanks. As our phones are all unlock where we are, the problem is just resetting the mobile provider. It is working fine on my phone, though the phone identity is now T-mobile_Leo.
Having said that, it is a much improved version over the one in Samsung.

[Resolved] [Q] Transfer SMS from SIM to Phone in WM?

I've looked everywhere for the answer, but can't seem to find it.
I am having trouble copying text messages from my SIM-card to my phone memory.
Is there anyone who knows how to solve that issue? I am using an HTC Diamond with WM6.5.
Thanks a lot.

Bump for visibility.
hahahahaha I had tried this for a very long time!
Seriously it too annoying!
In the end all I could do is :
put my sim in a nokia phone
transfer messages to the phone
sent them to diamond via bt!!
Sorry for the lame solution, but there is no other way!
Asus sim manager
Asus sim manager(any version) does it
Sorry dont have .exe n other related files.

Thanks, but the phone hasn't got bluetooth, and I do not have another phone atm. I will look further into this though, thanks.

Great, but I cannot find the sim manager files, only ROMs containing it (dumping them would take a lot of time). Is there any way you could send it to me?
Thanks.

allright, here's quickmade cab of asussimmgr.
idd, there's option to copy sim msgs into device(and from device to card) there, hmm nice.
i am not sure, if it will work for HTC devices(i've added policy to cab that should allow that), but i think it should.
Thanks
Thanks pupakota
hope it helps others

i'd be glad, if it works
Just downloaded and trying it out right now...
And YES, it works! I am very glad you guys helped me out!
Thanks a lot!
You can also use apps below to save the sms located on sim card & import to device.
Have done so on wm2003se wm5 wm6 wm6.1 & wm6.5 custom ROMs
i don't exactly know what you guys here are talking about...
but if its simply about copying a sms from the sim to the phone (as the title suggests) then i don't see how come no one's posted the most obvious solution i've used myself before...
just as background info to those who need to know- i'm running a com5 23569 self-cooked rom on my htc gene (p3400)
and i stumbled upon the solution to this problem you mentioned while going through one of the millions of flashes and restores we chefs go through...
all i did to copy the message onto the phone memory was open the msg to view it and then hit the left soft key to open the menu and the last option on the menu list simply reads 'copy to phone'...i tap on that and voila!! its done...
do let me know if it works coz i don't think it would be this simple and yet left untried by anyone else and requiring external apps to be installed for it to be done...

regardless of fact, if it is working, i wish luck to anybody with many messages..not especially automated process, if you ask me.
for cooks(that flash frequently) matter is entirely different, btw.

don't usually have to contend with too many messages myself...this only arises when i put my sim into a temp phone while the flashing process completes...and at worst i have 4-5 messages to contend with...
ppcpimbackup is my first pick too but i don't remember trying it out on sim messages...worth a shot though...
WOW plenty of options available! thank you guys.
@psychocyst : just saw your sig. loved it
