Is updating the Radio on RC8 Recommended? - G1 Android Development

I've got JF 1.41 RC8, can I update the radio and if so are they any drawbacks/improvements I should be aware of?
I've been searching the forum but not really finding much info regarding RC8 (I'm unlocked, not on T-Mo AND roaming so I'd rather not risk RC33 and the horror stories about txt message charges)

Pretty sure the radio update is for RC33 only at the moment, and that there is a different update for RC9, which I hope gets rolled out properly very soon.

I have installed the radio update, and although I Haven't noticed any particular improvements, I haven't had any problems either

If a US phone can run RC9 without reflashing the radio to the EU version, that means there's no difference between them.
Granted, they could be doing something funky like hard coding in different radios for all firmwares, and RC9 doesn't have the RC33 radio update included in the code... but that is highly unlikely.
Just flash it, I very highly doubt it won't work. And if it doesn't, that's what the NBH is for.

How do you go about flashing the radio update if you already have JF's RC33 installed?

Thanks, if its no sig diff I'll just wait. I'm really waiting for the bluetooth stack to be updated ala 'cupcake' in an official capacity.

Problem with android...

I installed JF1.5 adp, and I have an issue, when I make a call to someone from my contact list, in the call log it "logs" it as "unknown"....
Also I the battery life is way too short... I'm losing about 1% per minute or two.... wifi off, locate off, no major apps running
some help
Have you tried reseting to default settings. Also it you've done that reflash jf 1.5. Also make sure the radio is correct.
baseband is 1.22.12.29 is that correct? if not how do I update to newer version?
help
That's your problem download the new update from jf's blog site rename it update. Don't wipe just alt s
I'm not sure what I am looking for... little help please

Sorry they where taking you the long way around
Here's the direct link to the htc dev support page
Scroll about a quarter way down till you see the radio link
Also use a pc the radio download link is not g1 friendly
okay, so the issue with contacts still exists, I call then it logs it as unknown... should I try to reset everything to default? alt+w? and as far as battery... I just lost 2% in last 2-3 mins, so seems no difference...
ok
Alt w will work also with batery did you flash any non default themes to your phone my phone does that too but I have apps2sd and aero black flashed to mine. Also if you have a theme app loaded they cause lots of problems with 1.5. Only thing that could cause battery drain is something running in the background try doewnloading close everthing from the market it has a feature to tell you what's running in the background there is a free one in the market.
another thing
You could also reflash jf 1.5. To the phone see if this fixxes no need to go back to rc29 to root/hack or flash radio since you've sone that.

same thing =/
hmm
I've run out of ideas maybe someone else has one usually there would be a few people here jumping in to help. Only other thing I have is to do the root/hack again update the radio first then jf 1.5.
yeah I will most likely do that, before I get too deep into customizing the phone, probobly tomorrow I'll do it. I appriciate all your help!

[Radio] Baseband 2.41.04.02.03 | For Fresh Rom 2.0b

Geek for Me is proud to release:
Updated Radio.img for Android 2.1 (radio version 2.41.04.02.03) for Fresh Rom 2.0b
Thanks to toast for the moral support, and for being the first to test this on his phone. Haha.
This has only been tested and confirmed as working on Fresh 2.0b
Flashing an updated radio will typically give you better battery life and better signal
This won't fix any current problems with the 2.x roms, but it will make your phone more effecient
Don't hold me responsible if you brick your phone
Don't flash this unless you have a CDMA Hero
I wouldn't flash this unless you are on Fresh 2.0b
In case you are wondering, our stock one is 1.04.01.09.21
Check this post for how to flash it: How To: Flash a Radio Update Sprint HTC Hero

So just a quick question, if I flash this and for some reason I want to restore back to a previous rom will this affect me from doing so?
howcome the version in your screenshot is 2.41.05.02.03 ?
its a typo mine matches the screen shot
Might this finally make my phone show its connected to rev. a? You know know that bug..
I am waiting on the answer about rolling back to 1.5 roms
@linkinx64 its a radio update. I dont see why i would be compatible....just saying.

LOL ... i get your point . I am just a little bit skeptical
well i flashed it, i got insurance.
Let us know if it makes a difference, please.
All the radios that flipz has just posted will work and not leave u with a brick. But... sometimes shot happens.
Ok flashing :-s
So far so good..someone in flipz website said that he is seeing a great improvement in battery life
Because the flashing process for a radio is a little different, I'm wondering if I went back to Fresh 1.1 if this radio will work or if I'll have to flash a different radio? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wiping data/flashing roms does NOT change the radio, and it's like a separate firmware entirely...?
I'm leery about flashing if I have to go back to 1.5 and not having a correct radio or not being able to downgrade.

I was thinking the same. but radio should not have anything to do with the ROM, besides I am staying 2.1 until the official release
I flashed without any issues. Just make sure you have some battery life left.. probably wouldn't want your phone dying in the middle of this.
Looks good so far to me. As I said, my battery life was already noticeably improved just by updating from 1.5 to this ROM, would be great if this increases it's longevity even more!
Thanks for all the work Flipz/Toast!
Seems to be working just fine on 1.5 Rom. I will update if I experience anything bad.
Great job Flipz!

Thanks For CalKulin.. Sometimes we forget the little things..
K, so this is from newest to oldest I see, top-down..
Oh, and of course the grand question of it all, does the new wimaxx "write" itself..
Thanks..
Yes I flashed them and verified they all write correctly
is the lates radio and wimax update available to be used with the newest fresh evo 0.5.3, or does it still require yesterdays OTA update system files.
6.10 when did this happen
sent with my evo from a secret place

K, going to to test the new wimaxx radio.. Thanks Cal for this always..
Hopfully this will work with the new DC 3.2.2.1.. Or just the rooted rom you made of the OTA..
Oh, can we please get update 1.2 or 2.0 since this is a new rom.. From you..
I always trust things from you as I have from the Moment.. Thanks Dude..
I'm new to android/rooting so I have a couple of questions. I just did a full root, and from what I've read, I just have to get into recovery mode (via prompt -> "adb reboot recovery", is there a easier way?) and then select the package and install from the menu, right? Aside from that, is it safe to downgrade radios in the case where a newer one performs poorly?

Yeah, if you run into an issue with a radio, feel free to play around and find which one works for you.
Personally, I've had all sorts of issues with the newest 3G radio. Lots of data connection lost message, and other garbage.
Okay, I want to make a note of this:
This is for CalKulins good work..
I have tested the new wimaxx and it works, it really writes and works.. I can now access 4G on the new 1.47 ota.. And all others under it.. Along with great reception and all working well with the new radio..
K, Thats out the way, this is for you others who are leery, go on and flash, it is fixed..
Not sure if those links are signed (for protected recovery users) but they are available below if needed .

Cool.. I'm flashing the newest ones now. I just remember their being issues when flashing back to older radios on WinMo, of course, this ain't WinMo anymore but it never hurts to be sure.
can I use these with the new fresh rom
I'm interested in knowing the same as others, is it possible to just flash over any other ROM, like Fresh or does it have to be the over new OTA system files only?
Thanks!
Can this be flashed on top of the Unrevoked root?
Worked great, thanks Calk.
Scanning forever, but that's to be expected with the newest radio/older firmware.
thanks for the links. Worked great
I'm currently on DC 3.2.2 with the latest Radio (2.05.00.06.10) and the oldest WiMax (24722).
My MAC address currently matches the one on my rear label.
I'm not 100% sure on what my next step should be. I'm not sure how one updates the PRL/Profile, but I've seen it mentioned a lot. Should I just grab the latest WiMax from here and flash it? I unfortunately have no 4G near me to test my phone to make sure it's even working right now, but I will be in Baltimore a lot this summer and wish to use it there.
From what I can see the wimax radio did not overwrite my mac address but no 4G so

You can flash the latest WiMAX if you want and update prl & profile are in settings/system updates

rooted, stock-ROM, rejected update .... what now?

OK, I rooted my t-bolt but haven't done any custom ROM flashing yet. I checked today for the s/ware update and when it found it I chose "reject" ... 2 questions..
First, will this sucker eventually push to my phone automatically via VZW?
Second, should I install another radio (and if so for what reason?). I do have some intermittent GPS weather issues (right now it says I'm in Vosu, which I think is near Finland somewhere --- I can assure you the phone is wrong) but IDK if this OTA (or leaked) update addresses that or something different.
I do plan on, one day, running a custom ROM I'm just not ready for that yet. I would update the radio though if it does something for service or whatever.
Advice, thank you.
The new radio is a piece of ****. Don't bother with it. I don't think that HTC pushes silent updates so I wouldn't worry about it. Just check your software version to make sure you're still running the stock radio.
everytime i have had a rooted phone, OTA updates did not succeed in installing itself, even if i agree to the update, and am not running custom roms
So, I guess if it asks me I'll just keep telling it 'reject' - it told me where I could find it if I needed it again, lol.
this will stop it from asking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077405
or showing up
and the OTA is the same the leak here by jcase and radio is also same as leak so if you flashed new mecha and flased new radio in hboot and ran this buildprop
you would be up to date like the rest just rooted atleast

Can someone tell me if I am missing out on new features? I can't seem to discern.

So...
I have been flashing custom ROMs since the One S came out, but right now I am having a hell of a time figuring out if I am way out of date or if I am doing just fine.
All this OTA stuff and HBoot updates...
Basically, I have Hboot 1.06
I have the 1.08ts baseband
Running ChameleonOS ROM Android 4.2.2
So... There is all this talk of going back to stock, getting OTA, updating Hboot (which some seem to not want to do)
What am I actually missing if everything seems to work okay and I have 4.2.2?
Am I missing out on better reception or something? And how so? I can update my radio to 1.13 it seems by using the CM radio installer.
Am I just over thinking things? Or is something way out of date that I should update?

No reason to update hboot.
If you don't experience any related issues, you don't need to update the radio either. Although I had a better experience with the JB radio (at least the 1.15 release) than with the ICS 1.06es. It has now stopped the continuous switching between 3g and hsdpa.
Some people want to go back to stock because they prefer the HTC Sense experience, and I agree with them. But if you are fine with your rom, there's really no need to worry about anything.
