I'm using a ks20 and there isnt a panorama option for the cam. i was wondering if there are any apps i can dl for such an effect? also are there any other cool camera effects applications that you would recommend?
Hey there,
There are a few apps (names escape me at the moment but i'll search for you) that are stand alone, one of which has panorama function. They do not use the devices cam app but are pretty good. I will get back to with a few names, btw they arent freeware but only a small fee, about 15$ i think i paid for one.
awesome thanks!
Right,
Ive done a lot of searching for this and realised the software i did have was from my nokia days, so will not work obviously!!
Arcsoft will be producing something in the near futer but i think it will be expensive
Probably your best bet is to take normal photos on your device and download a photo stitcher for your pc. I have done this in the past and with a little practice can get some good results. Let me know if you come across an app for wm devices tho!
will do, thanks

I have been wondering thru the internet and have found many ideas of using a mobile phone with Android on it as a webcam.
placeware has been working on developing one but i can not seem to get in contact with these guys or find there app.
This would be a really cool idea and has already been implemented on the nokia s60 s40 etc. But not for the Android.
I think the best approach however would be finding out how qik use the the cell network to send video to their site.
Just do to this representation of a live video feed means that this would be very possible.
Some other ideas would be to use Bluetooth, Wifi or USB to connect the phone for webcam use.
This is qik the video streaming peeps
cant post the link
This is the webcam idea some other group had but has recently appeared to die...
cant post the link
...
That is a cool app for sure but the intention here is to not have to buy a web cam when i have a perfectly good 5mp camera on my phone.
As well as a wireless one to boot would be really cool.
Not to mention using the phone as a mic as well.
For instance; To use with skype to show somebody certain objects or large objects that you would not normally be able to show easily with a wired webcam.
I think it would just be really cool to have a phone with a cam facing you to use apps like skype on android....
Somebody really needs to do something like this it would be really really awesome and convenient to use.
However, The basic idea being feeding video to a computer to use for whatever you would want.
+1 on this.
I've been waiting for something for ages for this on my Nexi. I mean it may need root access but IDC, because it's better than most webcams probably.
This is a really good idea, I'm surprised an app hasn't been made for this yet. Hopefully it's just a matter of time.
This would be cool, hoe someone picks up on this
Hi folks-
I've seen a couple applications in the marketplace that allow you to check out traffic cameras in your area. Traffic Edge doesn't seem to have anything for Northern Virginia and not much of DC while the other one scared me off with poor grammar and syntac in their ad. Anyone have a good experience with an application that has a lot of cameras (hopefully in my area)? NBC news once had one for my area, but since discontinued it.
If there isn't a good application per se, but another program that can display images if you point it to the right direction (I once had a weather tab on my Tilt that I could program to pull traffic images) I would appreciate it.
My thanks in advance!

lol dont flatter yourself...
it was just me.. i've been clicking your link and exiting then clicking the link again 157 times.....

You could try Speed Sentry
If you can find a speed camera database for your area it will warn you;
a: When you exceed a set limit
b: When you approach a camera
The usual way to do this in europe is to use the pocketgpsworld camera database either with your sat nav or with e.g. POI-Warner
If you buy POI_Warner for Navigon MN7 it runs stand alone without any sat nav software, again you need to subscribe to a camera database.

I think the OP wants to view images from traffic cameras not find speed cameras. i would also find this useful for the uk but haven't seen anything yet.

hi ,
try this one

found this (works in uk). the colours of the camera images look a bit strange on my hd2 but maybe that's the cameras rather than the software.

Hi all,
I use this one and it does the job for me.
Im working on a small app that runs in the background and warns when close to a camera, based on a poi-file which it downloads regurlarly (checks first if there's a difference between the file on the server and the one being in use). I'm still a bit concerned over the batterydrainage and its still in closed beta at the moment...
If I ever get it done (dont have much spare time to work on it) I'll post on xda and let ppl test it.
It pulls a file from a certain website, format of the file is something like
20.28653, 63.81951, "Storgatan västerut i Umeå -"
20.28674, 63.81951, "Storgatan österut i Umeå -"
20.41038, 67.84314, "Geofysiska 2 E10"
and simply matches the gps nmea to the coords in the file. So far I've only tried this for swedish coords, but shouldnt be impossible to use it outside .se.
All the app does is that it plays a sound when a camera is nearby or you are closing in on it (~ 500meters or so). No gui or anything else.
As I said, its a closed beta so far (tested by myself and two of my colleagues) so dont bother asking about it yet
I've created something similiar, but for Singapore only. But if you have coordinates, the site that provides the cam picture, I think it can be easily extended to other countries.

Thanks, this program has a great selection of cameras in my area and I'd even be willing to pay a monthly cost if needs be, but the problem is the camera images are completely distorted and a "finger painting bright colored" mess. Sucks

Same deal for me. Great selection of cameras, awful image quality. I emailed tech support and they had no clue why it was looking like that. Bummer.
Hey, might be a very limited market, but I was wondering if anyone knew, or could code an app that overlays the video camera (or is its own video camera) with GPS information.
In theory it shouldn't be too hard to do, poll the GPS for speed, the compass for direction and stick them at the bottom of a video overlay along with the system date and time on top of the camera, then record the total image/video to the SD card.
I got thinking about this after picking up my car dock and having a play around with it (inadvertently managing to record a drivers eye view of my journey home!). It would be a great app for trackdays etc, you could even output the GPS NMEA data to a KMZ file and import it into google earth, or given some fine tuning make it into a very basic GPS data logger...
Anyways, thinking out loud here If anyone can do it let me know, I can code basic stuff, but something like that is way out of my league...
Cheers
Sounds like a nice application. To take it even further: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgXzdUb_fug I think this is an even greater use of camera + gps.
The only thing about making it into an augmented reality nav system is that it will still require mapping information, and the prob with that is that the free ones have pretty mad amounts of errors, and the paid ones need megabux spending (and they still have loads of errors).
With my idea, it's not an A/R system - it's simply a video overlay of info that's already in the phone. The major problem I see would be polling it, interpreting it, and writing it to the video at 30fps or whatever the unit captures at.
I do like that app tho, but it's not really what I envisaged with this
So you want to record a video similar to this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdAIaIOySoA for afterwards playback only? If so, I think this is possible only to store video + gps information in seperate files. The recorded video will be recorded as a normal video. The gps data can be stored using a kmz file with a sort of timestamp. Afterwards these 2 files can be played back with a application on the android device which reads these two files and overlays the video playback with the data from the kmz file.
I guess it will be to hard to create an application that records video and embeds the recorded gps data into the recorded video. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the android API can say something about this?
yep, got it in one... Although it would be for playback on the PC rather than on the phone.
The standard format is .3GPP, which is nice and small (comparitively speaking) and good quality too, and plays on a PC through Quicktime / VLC no problem.
I honestly think it would be perfectly doable... I just can't do it!!!
It sounds cool, but is it useful? Will anyone actually read the data/time/lat/long on the bottom of the screen during playback?
On top of that it will make the cpu work extra hard putting the text on every video frame.
Another idea is to use the timed-text stream (subtitles) in the mp4 file. (more)
Dont know how much work is involved.
It is a pretty specialist app, however I reckon people would use it for timing laps etc.
Look at how many in-car videos there are of trackdays on YouTube, and the ProVida system that is in use in the video above... there is a definite use for it imho - even if it's just used to show off people's VMAX on the autobahns etc!!
Must admit, I wouldn't see a point in the lat/long info - all I was guessing at was a simple overlay on the video with speed and direction bottom left, date & time bottom right so as not to distract from the actual video.
Hep hep hep
Don't put this idea underground (please). This app could be REALLY interesting for a bunch of freak I know (I'm one of them too :-D)
I'm in a very big forum of EV and there, such video is really really researched. The fact that it has to be processed afterward made by a separate soft is no problem...our main target is to upload a video with speed, altitude...etc for comparison or simple burning thing like "Yeah I've the freakiest e-bike..ever" X-)))
This is interesting for e-bike but also for EVERY (on the road, in the wood...etc) people which are searching performances and want to share them
Hope someone like the idea. If not I make a thread on the endless-sphere forum that the guys come "show their motiviation" here
Cheeeeers and do it ;-)
Grüß,
H.
A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, but I don't think its possible on android yet.
Lets hope it will be on 3.0.
A friend said that one guy will release a update to his track logging app, for the iphone 4 within a few days that will add this functionality.

Hello. I've just installed MM 6.0.1 by downloading the stock rom. As default, the Motorola Camera was the one in my phone, but I as usually do, I set de DPI to 270, so, the Motorla Camera doesn't work. The Google Camera doesn't show up at Google Play. I've installed the .apk but the first time I run it, it appears the tutorial and I have to swipe left to see the video feature. When I arrive at this point it shows me that "We can not establish connection with the camera" and it closes. I've tried to do the photo at the very beginning of the tutorial and it allows me to take photos and selfies, but it closes if I want to make a video. Any possible solution? THX!

This is a well-known issue which I had as well, although it was on a different device running marshmallow. No matter what I did, when I swiped to Video, it threw an error. There are several suggested fixes around for a similar problem, i.e. for devices which can't access the Google camera at all, not even for stills. It took me a while to find the solution that worked for my problem, and it was driving me nuts. The thing that worked for me was quite simple, tho - downgrade your Google camera app to a previous version. The latest version as of now is 3.2.045. The version that cleared up my problem was 2.7.008. A long time since, I've had not one issue with it The apk for 2.7.008 is easily found online. Obviously, tho, you will lose some very minor things when you downgrade, but very few.
By the way, why not consider another video app, even if that solution works for you? The Google camera one is good, but I've got a few I like a whole lot more, and each for different reasons and situations. My favorite is probably A Better Camera as a great all-rounder, or Camera360, which has a load of killer effects and tools. Camera Zoom FX and Camera FV-5 are really nice, too. Again, they are all easily found on apk sites. Load them up, have a play round, and keep what you want. It's a lot of fun, really
HTH :fingers-crossed:
Oh, and a side note... if anyone likes playing around with editing videos, Cyberlink's latest PowerDirector is muy nice, even on my Nexus 7. Full featured for a tablet app, and remarkably workable and fast.
Is it the only gallery option stock? I just never have liked it an this it my first foray into Pixel. I guess it makes sense that they lock you into their apps by default. I hate the idea of having to trial a bunch of third party apps and figure out what covers my basics without tracking or hacking at me.
I disabled Photos and when I take a picture and hit the little icon of said picture it pops up to look at an instantly shrinks down and goes back to camera. So I assume my only option is the one mentioned above...
Any recommendations for a good, basic, safe gallery app? I've been on Samsungs and LGs in the past to that's my main frame of reference. I only need the ability to see them and maybe group them. No backups or online linkage needed as we backup automatically to our NAS.

p.s. I do like the camera though... seems to be better at auto mode than my LG V20 but of course the manual on the LGs is hard to top.
QuickPic has always been my favorite. I haven't really looked lately though. The one called Gallery by Cloud Innovation Studio looks pretty nice now that I'm actually looking. Check those out or maybe just type in Gallery and see what you find.
i use simple gallery https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro&hl=en_US you can also get it on fdroid for free if you want https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro/
quickpic hasn't been good in ages so i wouldn't trust it.
after you install a new gallery app just disable google photos and everything should switch to use the new one
Haven't tried that one, I'll give it a go despite quickpic working just fine.
weird idea: have you considered using the "images" shortcut of the "files" app? i've just saved it to a folder on my desktop and am finding it works fine for anything gphotos is not good for (i.e. looking at misc locally saved pics). (excuse all the black and the errr assortment of pictures i choose to keep on my device)

Problem (for me at least) is that quick switching from the camera to look at the last pic taken still fails if there's no default gallery app.
