Lost USB Connectivity - G1 Android Development

I went to copy a file I had put on my g1 to my desktop and something was wrong with the usb. Now my phone will not give me the option to mount the sd card when connect via usb cable even though it will take a charge through it, I tried with 2 different cables and 2 pc's. Any thoughts?

That happened to me a few days ago and I have no idea why. Tried it on two different PC's, to no avail. Then all of a sudden, a few hours later, it worked again.

Yeah, its been a few hours and several restart/batt removals already. The phone is still fully functional just cant transfer files :/

Can you access it through adb?
Can you connect to it through the bootloader?
Did you try another computer?
Did you try another cable?
By any chance did you try to connect it to a universal charger?
I messed up my Tilt because I used a generic car adapter to charge it. Now it won't charge unless it's turned on and it disconnects randomly when syncing with my pc (if it connects at all). It sounds like you may be having a similar problem.

Well, seems the phone is now 500 dollar garbage. It wont take a charge through usb and just gets really hot. Im not a t-mobile customer so its not insured. Back to the blackjack I guess :/

You have a one year warranty through HTC, you can probably contact them directly.
One question, does it charge with the AC adapter that it ships with?

Dude you're starting to scare me now. My phone started doing that just last night and I haven't figured out why. It will give me the option to mount but will not show up in windows explorer. I am also unable to use adb. I am not having any problems with charging it though, hopefully that won't change in the next couple of days.

exactly the same as me. the only way i can get it to mount is to reboot it with the USB cable in, then it will mount. but if i take the use cable out and try again it wont. have to reboot everytime. starting to piss me off.

Weird stuff for sure. Odd that it seems to be happening to a lot of people and that it started happening roughly at the same time, give or take a few days.

hmmm tried my extended battery again which i've not been using for a few days to see what the battery life is like compared to the normal one. ****ing terrible.
but anyway, that seemed to fix the problem. I unmounted, remounted about 5 or 6 times in a row. rebooted, still worked. turned it off and back on again, working perfectly. so i went back to the original battery. wouldn't work no matter what i tried. changed battery again, worked fine.
It's either the weirdest (and most reliable) coincidence ever, or the battery is somehow messing with the way the phone mounts the SD card

Hmmm after finding my wall charger I found it takes a charge just fine off of that, so thats a plus at least....

If even ODIN mode is not working you have a hardware failure.
Ok not sure wtf happened but will give yall the run down.
BTW thanks for the reply Entropy512
OK could no longer charge or connect to comp so no going stock for me so what was i to do my phone was fubar.
Ok after talking with all the devs and tech support and general folks in the irc that were available I deleted the system folder thru file expert. If cant boot they cant tell that i had rooted and put a rom on there right.
So jump in truck and for grins plug it in to charger and bam get the samsung logo. But i continue to ATT just in case a fluke. Well of course im bricked at this point. They try charge it, put new batt in (not sure if they left it in). Still wont boot (of course) I go thru the dance and of course they cant get it to work. So I have to go thru warranty. They sending me another phone and they give mine to send back once i get the other.
So get back in truck throw my external sd back in and throw on charger for grins again. Bam I get charge screen. I leave there for good hour. Get my baby home run to comp throw it recognized crank up Odin, go stock, and am in process of flashing it back to the way it should be.
Got replacement phone and sent the other one back it never was right always thought it was connected to comp after it finally connected again. And never another word from att.
Not to revive an old thread, but what happened that got it to work in the truck again? I am helping a friend with your exact same issue, and another thread led me here. His port feels like broken solder connections, and the problem got worse and worse, till now it's pretty useless. He's already got his replacement device, but we're kinda scrambling what to do with the old one before sending it back.
He is bone stock rom, stock recovery, etc so the ONLY problem is that pesky Super User Icon lol. Think he'll be alright?
Not sure what got it to work tbh. It just started working. Of course all it would do is charge cuz i had deleted system folder. But it would not boot so of course att rep couldnt get it to boot so said i would have to wait on replacement phone. So just limped it along till it showed up. Sorry that doesnt help u any but. Only thing i can suggest is to delete system folder or brick it to point it stuck at samsung logo. If bricked cant see super user. Thats how sent mine back. Sorry if not much help.
Same. I have a captivate and my Micro USB won't charge.

Looks like my Skyrocket doesn't like USB anymore

Well, I think my beloved Skyrocket is now pooched. It has been acting strange lately (won't turn off, and when I pull the battery and put it back in it just restarts). Now, most recently I am unable to sync it with my computer at all. I'm running stock 2.3.5 Rogers, got bored on the weekend and wanted to try CM9. But the computer won't do anything when its plugged in. The skyrocket will just charge.
I have tried 3 different PC's, my MacBook and 4 different Micro USB cables. All yielding the same results. What made me come to the final conclusion its definately my phone is because I tried a friend of mine Skyrocket and his works great.
Before I turn this thing into my kids bath time boat anchor, is it repairable or pretty much hopeless? If not, I'm getting a Note. Go big or go home, right?

Hard Brick?

I believe I have a hard brick, but not sure about diagnosis or options. I put my phone on the charger last night, and it was dead this morning. I have been able to get it to boot twice only for it to shut off immediately due to lack of charge. I have plugged the phone into 3 different USB chargers and none of them appear to be charging my phone, however they all work on my Nexus 7. There is no LED on to indicate it is charging as it normally would. I cannot get into recovery or download mode. Any suggestions?
A little background about my specific situation:
I have had my S3 since launch, and have had no issues with it. I have had it rooted since the bootloader was overcome, and have run custom ROMS ever since. Most recently, I have been running CM 11 with the latest nightly being from early Feb. (not sure which date). I have CWM installed, and up til this point, my phone was working fine. I did get occasional random reboots since the latest nightly that I flashed, but the phone remained completely functional.
EDIT: It is not a brick problem, it is a charging issue. I can charge my phone in the car, but not through a wall charger or connected to a pc. When plugging into a pc, it does not register anything at all.

It's possible that your usb port is bad, but try to clean the inner contacts of the port first. You could try to plug into your PC instead of wall charger see if it works. In anycase if it worked with PC, but not wall charger or both, you need to replace the usb board which can be purchase for cheap on Ebay.

Do you know of someone who has an S3? Perhaps try swapping batteries with a charged one from a friend/associate, or test with a spare from a verizon store. At least then you can rule out a charging/USB charge port/battery issue vs something else

Well I got my phone to work. I pulled the battery off and just cleaned out some of the dust that had collected. I assume it was just not getting a good connection. Thanks for the suggestions though

Turns out, it only worked on my car charger. The problem persists outside of my car. I cannot charge either through a wall outlet or on a USB cord connected to a PC. I have tried 2 instances of each all with their own cables. My car charger works fine though.
Anyone experience a similar problem? I am going to try and wipe and flash a new ROM, hoping that will fix it.

[Q] Droid Maxx Developer Edition reboots over and over

Hello there,
I am hoping you can help me. I bought a Droid Maxx Developer Edition rooted with the bootloader unlocked on the stock rom about a month ago on ebay used. It worked great up until a few weeks ago when I dropped it. It was only from a height of about 3 feet on to a carpeted floor. It had a case and screen protector on it but when I picked it back up I couldn't get it to turn on at first. When I finally did get it to turn on it would just flash the bootloader unlocked warning and the battery indicator at 0% over and over. So I read around and saw that I needed to get an factory adapter to be able to save it. I got the adapter on Friday and I played around with it some and was able to get it to boot the phone properly but still wasn't able to charge the phone. When I just had my charging cable I was only able to get it into fastboot mode and it would say the battery was low. Now with the adapter it says the battery is ok but still doesn't charge. When I dropped it had at least 70% battery. I am hoping I can recover all my data since I can get it booted up now. Though I am not sure how since the droid maxx doesn't have a sd card. I was thinking and please correct me if this doesn't work but I was thinking maybe I could boot up the phone on the factory cable and then place it on the wireless charger to maybe charge it. I haven't tried it yet since I was afraid to burn up something. I was also reading that there were some roms you could flash that wouldn't hurt your data. I wasn't sure if they were for this phone or for others. That would be nice if I could to that.
I want to try and recover this phone if possible since it is a developer edition and Motorola no longer carry's them. Not that it matters since I have no warranty with them since I did't buy it new. I would bet it was out of warranty when I bought it anyway. Any help or productive suggestions is greatly appreciated.
That sounds to me like s cracked logic board or maybe something on the inside is ripped. I recently bought a mini that was badly bent out of shape...after replacing a battery LCD digitizer frame ear piece, the device would boot only to cool down mode. So a logic swap got me a working phone, if you can get into fastboot.. You may be able to pull files. But I am not too sure

OTG works to get data off or just use android file transfer (Mac). USB mass storage works as is on windows.

See my x/ultra page below. Near the bottom for OTG. Windows it just works in mtp.
What happens when you boot to fastboot with just the usb cable attached to a wall charger? do you get the "charging" message in fastboot? or just Low Battery?
edit: the reason i ask is because I had a similar problem once, where i thought the phone was fubar'd cause I couldnt get it to boot, or show anything when plugged into the wall, but i left it overnight and when i got back in the am it worked. the only thing that could get my phone to boot previously was my factory cable

My first attempt to revive the phone I plugged it into the wall with the usb cable and when I booted it up into fastboot mode it said charging. Unfortunately I couldn't leave well enough alone and kept trying to get it to fully boot. When I finally stopped trying and tried to get it into fast boot and get it to charge, it would only say low battery. Then the other day when I got the factory adapter I plugged it in and booted to fast boot and it still said battery low. Then in an attempt to see if the factory adapter would let me transfer files over I plugged it into my PC. I was amazed that it booted up fully. I was excited and I looked it over and didn't see any damage from the fall. The battery indicator widget showed it was plugged in but only 1% and not charging. So I thought I would try fast boot mode with the adapter plugged in. When it booted into fast boot mode this time it said battery ok. I was so happy. So I left it plugged in all day to let it charge. When I finally got home and unplugged it, still dead.
So now that I read your suggestion of plugging it into the wall, I gave it a try since I hadn't tried it since using the adapter. I booted into fast boot and got low battery again. Then I came up with the idea to plug it into my PC. I booted into fast boot and now it is charging!!! I don't want to get my hopes up because I have been disappointed before. It is something new at least. I am, let's just say cautiously optimistic.

Unfortunately while it said charging...It wasn't. My heart sank after leaving it on to charge all day and when I booted from fast boot and it just started boot looping again. Sigh.
Well that wasn't my last option so I am trying to stay positive. Is there a way to flash the stock rom on it and not lose my data? Honestly I have never flashed any roms before so this will be fun. lol

Fast boot without the adapter connected to the PC says Battery Low (charging)
Fast boot with the adapter connected to the PC says Battery OK
Fast boot with/without adapter plugged into the wall says Battery Low
With the adapter and plugged into my PC I can boot into the phone and the battery widget still says 1%.
The battery icon that pops up during the boot loop still says 0%
Ok I am just getting off work now so I will give that a try once I get home. Crossing my fingers and hoping this works.

[Q] Slow Charging on Stock using original Charger/Cable

So I'm on my second M8 (first one had some build issues). Only had it about a week and have hardly been using it since I haven't had time to transfer everything from my old phone. To that end, I haven't charged it much, and when it has been charging I haven't really been paying attention.
Today I am paying attention and it is saying that it is "slow charging" and that I should use the supplied adapter and cable.
I am using the supplied adapter and cable. I'm completely stock running only weaksauce (no S-Off, bootloader unlock, etc).
I had USB debugging on, turned that off. I've rebooted the phone, no difference.
I get the error message whether the phone is on, or turned off at only the charging screen.
I've tried some other adapters and get the same results.
Ideas?

I've seen this twice and heard about it once, first time was where I didn't have the usb cable properly plugged into the adapter (might not be your case since you tried different adapters, but you never know) and a second time when I didn't plug in the adapter correctly and only had one prong in the socket lol not sure how I didn't cause a fire that time cause it took me awhile to figure out. (I think you're smarter than I am so this is highly unlikely )
And lastly my cousin had the problem and his was due to a bad usb cable.

Definitely not due to cables being in wrong.
I also tried another 10' 24/28 awg cable I got and the same thing.
It may be the charger, and I think I am going to try to hit up the Verizon store tomorrow and see if I can try one of theirs.
In the meantime, I have access to iPhone/iPad chargers. Can anyone confirm that they don't get the "slow charge" message when using one of these? If so, and I get it on that as well, then we may have an issue.
Ok, I just did a factory reset on my phone and it appears the problem has gone away.
I'm not sure why this would have done it.
I did the following to my phone originally:
1) Rooted with weakauce/SuperSU
2) Attempted to S-off with firewater (unsuccessful)
3) Installed sunshine to test, but did not go through with it to s-off (i.e. pay).
Apart from that, all I have done was install a handful of apps from the store.
I am going to try and recreate what I previously did and see if the issue reoccurs.
UPDATE:
So, things looked fixed after the reset. I re-rooted and loaded some things onto the phone and everything appeared fine.
I then decided to plug my phone into my juicing brick (RAVPower RP-PB17).
As soon as I did that I got the message again that it was slow charging (even though this is 2.1A charger).
After that, I continued to get the message regardless of what I plugged it into to charge...even the original charger..even after a reboot.
I was going to test this again by doing another factory reset and then plugging back into the RAVPower to see if that caused the problem. Before I did that, I looked around and found what is apparently a battery reset procedure documented in several places. The most "official" place I could find it documented was here:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10943
Basically you hold both volume and the power button down for about 1-2 minutes while connected to the HTC charger. Sure enough, this seemed to clear the "slow charge" indicator again and now whatever I plug it into (including the RAVPower) seems to work fine.
I'm going to call HTC back and see what they say about this.
UPDATE:
Called HTC and told them what happened... that the phone was giving me "slow charge" until I factory reset it, and then started giving it again after I plugged it into my juicing brick.
I then told them about the re-calibration procedure I found and performed and that how now the device appears totally fine regardless of what charger I use.
I told them I was concerned because it was a new phone and asked them to explain why it was necessary. I also asked them if they had anywhere on their site, or publicly available a document explaining the re-calibration procedure and under what conditions it was necessary.
The girl I spoke to was really worthless (more than the guy I web-chatted with who just said "return it"). She said there is no public facing documentation on how to perform the re-calibration. She couldn't explain why I had the problem. Really all she could do was offer a repair/replacement.
I believe I'm still within the return period with Amazon - but I've already returned my first M8 due to build issues. I'm happy with the build quality of this one, but concerned that I had these charging issues already.
Should I return it and hope for a 3rd one with no problems?
I was having the slow charge issue for the past couple of days and tried everything suggested including a factory reset, different chargers, different cords, everything and still could not get my phone back to normal. I then took a really close look at the USB port on the phone and noticed pocket lint in there. It was preventing the plug from seating the whole way and would only slow charge.
To clean it, I shut the phone off and used a small safety pin to get the lint out. After that my charger is working normally again.

Thanks for this. I'd been having this problem for weeks now. I took a small pin and pulled out a TON of lint from in the charger port. Now all is good. Thanks again!!!
