Hi,
I have tried everything I can think of from changing the data settings to disabling HSDPA. When I use a custom ROM (and I have tried many different ROMs), there are times that I cannot connect to the internet through Skyfire or Opera (and some times PIE). This does not happen all the time, it seems to happen more when I am connected through HSDPA; yet turning HSDPA off does not change anything. Does anyone know if AT&T USA needs a special connection setting? I show that I am connected through "MEdia Net (HSDPA)" when this happens and not 3G or E.
[[edit]] The reason it is posted in the Rom forum is becasue this only happens when using a cooked ROM
You are correct you this post will most probably be booted from here since you should post the problem in the specific rom development thread, but there are no special settings for at&t it should work right off the bat, try establishing a connection with IE first and see if that fixes anything. Also you may want to check and see if the proxy is enabled if so disable it, the at&t proxy does sometimes stop connections with certain programs, i know it stopped the weather app for a while.
Definitely will not work right out of the box. erandhawa is on the right track with the ATT settings. you do need to kill off the proxy.
it sounds like you go from cooked rom to stock just to get your phone working. with that in mind it would seam also that your not changing the radio. make sure that your changing the radio too as just about every rom performs differently with every radio.
I did not post it in the spicific Rom thread becasue this happens on 5 of the roms I use. Well after talking to Skyfire for a while it turns out I do need to disable the proxy (thanks Erandhawa and Peterfnet). As soon as I disabeled the proxy {Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced --> Select networks --> MEdia Net --> Edit... --> Proxy Settings --> Uncheck "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet"} I than soft reset and it works great. I also now get weather and my active sync still works. Thanks guys
I know this is a simular post to another skyfire, the difference is this only happened with custom roms.
good to see things worked...just remember everytime u flash a new rom ur gonna have to disable that proxy...also didn't mean an offence i've just seen mods toss posts because they are in the wrong section but the good thing is u got it resolved before the posts got tossed

I flashed my tilt to an htc rom and I'm now having problems getting on the internet. Is there some place where i could find a cab file with at&t settings or anywhere I could find the settings and enter them by hand. thanks
still looking. thought I found a solution but it was for hermes.
try this network config...
thanks a lot. that seems to have done the trick.
turns out it didnt fix the problem. i can connect to the web via PIE but for some reason I can't get either gmail or windows live to connect. I don't know why it would work for some but not others.
Same problem
I am having the same issues too. IE and outlook mailbox can connect without any problem to the internet. Gmap too.
However, I am having problem with fring and skype applications. Anyone experiencing this issue?
I have flashed my Tilt with the original HTC Kaiser rom.
i think i might have the solution for ya...change the isp.cingular to wap.cingular
I'm having all sorts of problems, too. Very odd. I don't understand how it can work one minute, then not the next.
One thing that has seemed to help is to use the advanced configuration tool to keep the connection active all the time.
It's under Connections > Connection Always On.
Keep in mind, I had to choose MEdia Net. When I chose "My ISP GPRS", I couldn't connect at all....
I'm having the same issue. I didnt notice it until now with Fring. Over WIFI it works, over 3g it says cannot find internet.
I checked and my settings are already on the wap.
So other ideas?
I've also been having intermittent luck with the settings on my TILT flashed to HTC ROM.
One way I got around it for a while, was to connect to Pocket Internet Explorer to get the connection setup, then hop on Google Maps/MS Live Search/etc.
I also had this problem with MiniMo and Opera for a while. Eventually it all just worked itself out I guess. Also, make sure your 'proxy' settings don't get messed up. Sometimes I'll go into the connection settings and the "This connection uses a proxy" is checked... I'll go back in later, and it won't be. Not sure what the conflict is.

Here is a solution.
When you create settings using the Wizard it puts 2 connections. 1 MY ISP and the other MEdia Net.
GO to Settings -- Connections -- Connections -- Advanced -- Select Networks -- First drop down box make sure that My ISP is selected then click ok up top.
Try it and see if it works now.
If it doesnt select MEdia Net as the default connection and edit it, remove proxy and see if it works now. If still no luck remove MEdia Net from one of the connections, by managing existing connections tap and hold and then click delete. Then set MY ISP as the default connection in advance --select networks.
Good Luck.
That took care of it..
Actually what took care of it was going into the media net settings and unclicking the proxy settings..
It was using a proxy to connect but no server in the box. I clicked and whammo works now!
Thanx
same issue
Just wanted to mention had the same issue (particularly with skype) and made the change mentioned further up in the post about changing the connection setting from isp. to wap. and now skype works like a charm, thanks!
please help me aswel
i had my tytn ii , unlocked from orange and am now using o2, gprs aint workin, dno wots up, iv spent hours surfin the web and entered tonnes of variations of the manual grps settings ie access point name = ... username password . neway these didnt work! phoned o2 they said they dont have the settings to send me. can ne1 help?
Yes I searched extensively, and didn't find an answer, okay, now that that's out of the way...
I am running V.4 of Laurentius26's ROM, and downloaded the Restore and Disable Proxy Cabs. Well, if i run the Restore Proxy no pages will load in IE or Opera Mini, everything works fine again though when I run the disable proxy cab. Is there a reason why this is happening? I am wondering if there is some issue with the AT&T cabs and the HTC ROM's. I don't normally need to Proxy, but I would like to turn it on once in a while to access the MEdia Net home page and Cellular Video, thanks for the help guys!

I think all these cabs do is change some registry settings, have you tried to make these changes manually and see if that works?
Yeah, I have gone into the registry and done it manually, but it still does the same thing. I think it must have something to do with the way HTC's ROM's work that doesn't work well with AT&T's Proxy.
Edit-You can set the MEdia net connection to use the Proxy all of the time, but certain things don't work with it, like Telenav and TomTom (the program works fine, but trying to update or use the Plus services, like Traffic Updates, fails with the proxy). That's why I am hoping I can find a way to use the enable/disable proxy cabs again.
I think i might know what your problem is, the restore and disable proxy cabs will only work if the proxy is hardcoded into the registry. It is like that on the official AT&T roms. If you just let connection setup run or install a few of the cabs floating around here for AT&T settings the proxy will be listed in the connections, like if you go look at the media net connection and you should see a tab with proxy settings and they will be configured. The AT&T ROMS don't do that anymore, they place them in the registry and the enable and disable proxy cabs will turn it on and off. The reason for that is to make it easier to surf on your phone with a wifi connection. If you want the connections set up in such a way that you can use the enable and disable proxy cabs then you will need a cab with those settings, i used to have one but i can't seem to find it. You could search the forum and i am sure you could turn something up. RF9 has an excellent post that goes more into detail on this matter. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=8555248
Depending on what you want to do though you could just change the My ISP conection to be wap.cingular and leave the MEdia Net one as is and use the My ISP anytime you want to connect without a proxy. Happy Modding
Do it manually. Just open the cab on the PC and view the file. Oddly I think the one I tried first a few weeks ago was backward in naming convention. The remove seemed to enable and viceversa.
After I install a ROM, it always seems that my connection settings are off.
I can never get my 3G connection, or MMS / Email does not work as well.
I have searched the form to see what i could set as a connection, but do not know what to fill out for the proxy / WAP / etc... settings
please help
Thank You
Newbie here, but will try to help.
Most will tell you to do a search on the forums as you will be able to find limitless answers regarding most answers. That is still the proper way to go as you can find specific answers to your specific needs.
That being said, I may be able to help you if you are on AT&T. You can check this forum as they posted an answer to how to connect to MediaNet...
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/...ngular&message.id=73574&query.id=25045#M73574
You may also want to look at the Radio sticky. From what I understand, different cooks use different radios in their ROMs and, while they may be very good, radios are very fickle things. Radios that work great in LA may not work so great in NYC, etc. So, if changing your settings don't work, maybe a new radio will...
Hope this helps...

HTC Network Settings
Most Cooks have this program installed already.
If not look for a .cab for it or navigate to
Start > Settings > Connections > Connection Setup
My Fuze won't access the web on any browser or any tool that requires access. However, email comes in through activesync direct push just fine...so, something isn't working and alowing it to connect to the web.
Any suggestions?
pls specify u r using stock rom or custom rom. if custom rom, which one or u can ask in the rom thread. so many possibilities
I am using the stock rom that shipped with the AT&T Fuze. I do have the Diamond Tweak and Advanced Configuration packages put on it though...seems weird that I can get email over the data lines but cannot use anything that touches data beyond that...probably some setting went wrong.
I always have data on but if I'm connected for >24hours it wont let me download anything and I have to disconnect and reconnect in order to have it work again. If all else fails hard reset. If that fails.... Happy Kwanzaa!
Make sure that you have Proxy "Enabled"
How would the proxy help? All it does it slow down the transfer rate. I've always disabled that the moment I can since, I've had my tilt.
I'm a believer in disabling the proxy as well but if you go to the default PIE homepage (it's device.home I think) it will not work because that requires the proxy to work. In the past, if my internet wasn't working I've gone into Communication Manager, turned on flight mode, then turned flight mode off (same thing is turning off the phone connection then turning it back on). I've found that it refreshes the connection.
my problem is my webbroswers *both IE and Opera* does not connect to my cellar internet but only wifi
every other internet app works, Youtue, google map, etc Myphone seems to partly work but i think get stuck when sync'ing my contacts could be a bug with myphone so am discussing this with they expert team
so can anyone expalin why my web broswers is not working?
P.S Skyfire Beta works
Device = ATT Fuze
Rom = NATF v4.4 Fuze Edition
I've never had this problem, but then again never flashed one of NATF's roms. Try posting this question in the NATF rom thread. Good luck
every rom i tried this happen, atomic, NATF, Monex, etc
go to connection settings turn off the proxy check box
proxy is off, i dont like using proxy i live NYC by the way
What have you tried to solve the problem?
A soft reset?
Maybe you have nodata running, or forgot to activate the GPRS/3G connection before uninstalling it.
i tried 3 different rom, soft and hard reset, i tried the hidden proxy cab and remove proxy cab, tried manually setting the proxy, changing the default connection in the connection setting and all seem to not work
I must say this is a problem I haven't really read about yet (new to posting on the forum but not from reading)
If you do install nodata (cab on request), maybe you can check if the phone's data connection is enabled?
Maybe there are other factors then the forementioned program that can affect that setting.
It is a weird problem however, since other apps do have internet...
What if you start GoogleMaps to get the connection going, then open the browser. Does that let the browser connect?
it is very strange and what is this no data cab u mention
i have also used skype and it works, it kinda sucks that am limited to one broswer and thats skyfire, since its a beta also its not the greatest, my only other option is to turn on the wifi, connect to a access point and then it works, other than that i get opera nor IE to work which is very puzzling
also when i tap my h icon in the task bar it says am connected to medianet but it doesnt load

Nodata is an application that detects (GPRS/3G) dataconnections on your telephone and can switc them on or off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=151212&d=1233148782
Because the other apps on your telephone do have internet, the chance of this thing working is very slim.
Good luck tough...
youtube is processing my vid, i will post the link a lil bit later
and i dont think that nodata stuff will work due to the fact that it might actually detect a internet connection like the rest of my applications but wont be able to figure out why just IE and Opera dont work.
ok as promise here is the link to the vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAAqYWGATRc
look to the end of the vid where u see i put the wifi on and try to load opera and it works

Ok, I didnt see a connection setup wizard on your phone? Did you run that on setup during the initial boot over your phone. I would recommend running that again....I really didnt see it, which is odd did you do something with it?
Second, when you went into connections...then when you see media net click on proxy settings, make sure there is a check box on this network connects to the internet. and make sure the next box is not checked and there is nothing in the box....
this is a fuze edition rom so i guess thats why NATF left it out since fuze is orginally att. and is proxy a must cuz i tried using proxy before but it didnt work.
cant someone help me?
try going to your comm manager and disabling your data connection. This should disconnect you. After that, re-enable it and see what happens.
