FAQ:
-Accelerometer doesn't work!
In Roger "Orientation" doesn't active by default! Try Settings>Sound&Display>Orientation (tick)
-When I change language on V1 or V2, date on calendar widget (and many other menu/app) is in Italian/English!
Just reboot the magic !
-I hate HTC_Sync from v2a, how remove it??
From terminal, "adb remount" and "adb shell rm /system/app/PCSCII.apk"
-I want install/reinstall HTC Sync! How?
Download PCSCII.apk, and install (from astro or terminal "adb install HTC_PCSCII.apk")
-In V2 there was a lovely HTC_IME (virtual keyboard), why do you remove it?
Because it doesn't have accented letters! If you would new lovely VK, this download NEW HTC_IME.apk and type on terminal:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/HTC_IME.apk
adb install HTC_IME.apk
-I want the boot.mp3!
i don't remove it, only disable open zip and edit /system/media/boot_animation.xml . Substiture line " useAudio="0" " with " useAudio="1" ". Now, save on desktop (for example) and from terminal (with magic connect)
Code:
adb push boot_animation.xml /system/media
adb shell reboot
if you want, you can substitute also boot.mp3 and boot.gif (adb push filename /system/media)

You probably have to check the option in settings-display-orientation...
Thanks I'm going to test!!
I've created a new ROM for the HoFo/Rogers community in the hope that others will help improve it. All of the other ROM's that I have tried had missing features or they were a bit buggy and power hungry just because they weren't made for the specific Rogers Magic. This ROM is based on the orginal Rogers ROM, so everything works and it is stable. Enjoy!
N.B. - If you get an error during an update please upgrade to the 2005 SPL: http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
Thanks to lifeflayer we have a great server for hosting the ROM's.
You have to wipe if you are coming in from a different ROM, not if you are updating the HoFo ROM.
To use the adb console in version 2.0 +, please update to the latest SDK.
To improve your battery life, go into Settings --> Wireless controls --> Mobile networks --> uncheck 'Enable always-on mobile'
It is recommended that you use Amon_RA's recovery image to update this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
If you are a non-English locale user, you will need to also run this keyboard update after the HoFo update:
http://hotweiss.lifeflayer.com/roms/originalkb.zip
HoFo Kernel
File contains wlan.ko, boot.img-kernel and config.
This kernel is a modification of cyanogen's kernel with TigerTael's V3 patch applied to it.
N.B. - To get the config's working with Donut, you have to enable video4linux.

This ROM is vanilla dry. It's basically for people who want stability and full functionality. And yes, this ROM is rooted.
im lost, do i have to spl and root? im getting my phone tomorrow and am coming from WM6.1, so im lost here. What the hell is vanilla dry, and what are the extra features here?

I don't think you need the new SPL to flash this ROM; I have the new one. Vanilla dry basically means that I didn't mod the core of the system at all (minus the normoclocking), I just added features.
PS-normoclocking, because 528 is the native CPU speed
How did you set the Speed to 528 mhz?

@hotweiss: wow! thank you so much!
I'm Curious. What is the max frequency set to on the rogers magic when you first get it?

384 MHz is the default speed, which is underclocked.
528 MHz is the native speed of the CPU.
Not sure if its due to the changing of the keyboard, but I noticed that the calibration tool doesn't work . Always crashes. Good ROM, thanks.
Hi hotweiss, great job but version 1.01 is corrupt on libsgl.so, i can't flash it.
Would you mind repack and upload.

It shouldn't be much, as the CPU scales all the way from 82 MHz all the way upto the new set maximum of 528 MHz. So it will only shoot up to 528 MHz when needed.

hey hotweiss, i really want to use your ROM so I can get rid of all the rogers icons on my magic
but im having a hard time combining bits and pieces of each one's instructions together.
so I've downloaded your update.zip
do i just follow these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4036421&postcount=52
and boot into recovery mode?
how would I do step 8 here, if I dont have the "fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.0H.img" from you?
or can I just use the one from skittleguy as well?
so when i'm done, do I just click "reboot system now"??
or, would I have to follow skittleguy's other post on hofo, and do these steps again, after i've applied the update?:
5. power off phone, hold back button and power to boot into fastboot again
6. fastboot flash boot boot.img
7. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
8. fastboot reboot
TIA, hope I can have some success with your rom!

I would use this recovery image here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/252267998/recovery-RAv1.1.1H.img
It's the latest version.
As far as insalling the ROM, just follow these steps:
1) boot into fastboot mode (back and end)
2) fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.1.1H.img
3) run the update process
That's it.
Thanks a lot hotweiss!
it works perfectly now, im glad i got rid of the rogers icons

v2.14.1 - Initial Froyo-based Changelog - 12/15/2010
"Hell hath frozen over" ...
Well I promised if we ever got "official" drivers I would update this ROM ... and well ... with much delay we finally did!
So as @olearpy would put it ... it appears "Hell hath frozen over" ...
I really thought it would never happen ... and thus a very long delay occurred ... sorry 'bout that all. :/
- The is my initial Froyo-based dream/sapphire ROM, hope it's enjoyed.
- I will not be posting an initial "extensive" changelog. Instead my Nexus1 work should be referenced HERE for a thorough changelog (POST #2).
- Differences from the Nexus1 ROM and initial build CREDITS will be listed in this initial changelog.
- First the credits ...
--- BloodyWasHere - for the loaner MT3G - So could finally put this build together!!! Thanks again man!
--- Pershoot - for his 2.6.35.x - OC/UV kernel code (is completely his, only my configurations) - Thanks again man!
--- ezterry - for the 2708 contributions ... ty
--- CyanogenMOD - for the msm7k libs and misc other junk I can't even remember :/
- Differences from the Nexus1 build
- No LED Color options
- No HTC Apps (*for now* - space issues mainly - we'll see :/)
- No FMRadio
- No dalvik-cache to /cache options
--- All other options/components made it over from the Nexus1 build, unless I'm forgetting some (which is very possible!) - will update as they come to light
NOTE: It's *highly* recommended you use Oldstyle-Apps2SD and Dalvik-cache-2-SD in SpareParts if you're a dream/G1 user ... as you'll only have ~53MB free on /data after installation otherwise. :/
Installation Instructions
1) Rooted phone with a recovery image that can flash testkey ROM's (a.k.a Amon_RA's or ClockWorkMOD/ROMManager)
2) Download update.zip from POST #1 in downloads at the botton and copy to your phone's SDCard.
3) Boot into recovery and perform a nandroid backup to be safe, flash and enjoy!
4) Then flash (alternatively) ... either the EBI1 or 2708 kernel if needed.

Preferred Installation Procedure (Tested, Tried and True)!
Prerequisites - REQUIREMENTS
1) Root.
2) Recovery image capable of flashing ROM's not signed with OTA-release-keys, I recommend Cyanogen's 1.4 or Amon_RA's 1.5.0 image.
If you need help ROOTING or installing a recovery image ... PLEASE visit LucidREM's thread ... HERE....!!!!
He has provided fairly clear instructions and is always willing to help out those requiring assistance with this!
NOT REQUIRED - BUT STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
1) If you have a Dream/G1 ... Flash the Latest Radio, 2.22.19_26I, get it HERE!
2) A SDcard partition with (1) FAT32 partition and if you're a G1/dream user, (1) ext2/ext3/ext4 partition. I'd recommend at least ~320MB on the ext2/ext3/ext4 partition.
Installing Base Rooted ROM, Expansion Packs and Themes - Instructions
1) BACKUP ALL YOUR PHONE DATA AND SDCARD Contents to a computer, external HD, or whatever, by whatever means you can. (Always better Safe than ever sorry!)
2) If you are coming from another Apps2SD ROM or you use an ext2/ext3/ext4 partition for anything otherwise... In order to guarantee you won't have any issues with the install you should remove app, app-private, expstick and the dalvik-cache directories on your /system/sd (ext2/ext3/ext4) partition, or you may simply reformat it. If you backed up your whole SDcard, this shouldn't be a huge issue. - Yes you'll have to reinstall your apps. You can try to skip this step, but if the install fails, rinse, wash, repeat and don't skip this step.
3) Download the desired base rooted ROM from the original post (and expansion pack is desired, recommended).
4) Copy the base rooted ROM (and expansion pack if you plan to use it, recommended) .zip files to your phone's SDcard. (DO NOT PLACE IT IN A FOLDER).
5) Power-Off your phone.
6) Press and Hold (Home+Power) buttons at the same time to boot into recovery mode.
7) Perform a data wipe by pressing (Alt+w), may have to confirm by pressing HOME (it will prompt).
8) Flash the base rooted ROM using the anyzip (or choose update) option.
9) When finished, if you want the expansion pack, flash the expansion pack using the anyzip (or choose update) option.
10) When finished, reboot from recovery by pressing (Home+Back).
11) Once your phone has booted up, sign into your Google account (by whatever means) through the setup/data-sync wizard.
12) Launch the "MarketApp" and accept the terms, download some app you're familiar with by going to 'My Downloads' or search for one!
13) Now, the base and Expansion installation complete, if you want to install a theme, place the theme.zip file onto your sdcard.
14) Reboot into recovery.
15) Flash the theme_update.zip file using the anyzip (or choose update) option.
16) Reboot your phone!
That's it! You're Finished!
Enjoy!
ROM & ExpansionPack - Updating
Expansion Packs can be applied on top of previous Expansion Packs (or base ROMs) without wiping ... unless otherwise noted in the changelog! So read the changelog!!!
Do also note, you will typically have to re-apply your theme after updating! Sometimes you may need to download an updated/compatible new theme, so read the changelog!!!
That's IT! - Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I control features like compcache, linux-swap, CPU, etc?
A) Most features of the build are controlled with the terminal
command, 'expsetup'. Run this in the terminal after the 'su'
command, it's menu-driven. Else, you can optional employ
a user.conf, see changelog and example for details.
So what's the difference between the AOSP, ADP & TMO builds?
A) The AOSP ROM supports ALL android languages, besides that,
it is the same as the ADP ROM. ADP & AOSP/ADP builds are more
theme-able ... thus I will post more/better themes for these builds,
period. That said, you can check out
TheOfficial ROM DB Matrix for my ROM's HERE at androidspin!
So what's the deal with these "expansion packs"?
A) All of these ROM's are basic rooted versions of their official release.
So if TMO has a release, a matching "base rooted ROM" is posted.
This is simply a rooted form of that release w/no advanced rooted
features. Now, if you want advanced root features such as compcache,
apps2sd, tethering, etc ... you must install the expansion pack!
Further, if you are a MT3G (sapphire-32B) user, you must also install
the expansion pack in order for this build to work properly.
I can flash the base rooted ROM with no problem, but I get
"black/blank" screens when I install the expansion pack, what gives?
A) The most likely cause of this is leftovers from another build on your ext
partition. Reformat your ext partition, wipe, flash the base and reflash the
expansion pack.
Whenever I run 'su' or an app that runs 'su' I get a blank screen and an
eventual FC. How do I fix this, please help!?
A) USB Debugging must be turned ON. Goto Settings -> Applications ->
Development -> USB Debugging must be CHECKED!
I'm using AdvancedLauncher and it keeps ForceClosing when I
auto-rotate the phone?
A) This has been noted by several users when using specific widgets.
Specifically, the Taskiller widget has been noted to cause this problem.
Remove the offending widgets that are not yet Donut compatible.

I can understand the friend's insistence. I know that I've flashed to ROMs in the past (on my old Excalibur) that omitted or messed up a feature that I had gotten used to or needed, or have flashed to a ROM that was overly flamboyant, versus a typically cleaner build.
Still, I've been reading great things about the Android ROMs by Cyanogen, JesusFreke, et al.
Can't Download
so i'm trying to download your rom to give it a try but rapidshare is not alowing it for some reason
if you can fix it it will be great

I think I have the same problem. I would have my in-call volume all the way down, and my gf would always tell me to turn it down, because it's WAY too loud. I always thought it was strange, but I guess she was right?
I think I'm gonna give this build a shot. It's pretty much a stock US 1.5 w/ root, right?
EDIT : I use Haykuro's last SPL (1.33.2005) and the 26l radio from HTC, right?

Yes this is Stock US 1.5 w/root. If you already use Haykuro's SPL then you are alright but it doesn't require it (so i wouldn't recommend it) and yes the radio is the .26i you want to make sure you load if you dont already. This is just CRC1 w/Root so really doesn't require anything special
yes this is stock

To be clear ...
This is definitely a stock CRC1 from TMobile, only the necessary components have been added to get/keep root.
No busybox, no App2SD, no cramfs, no squashfs, no custom kernels, no audio mods, etc.

The newest Cyanogen has the work e-mail app from the MyTouch which adds exchange support. I've been runnning it for the past week and have had absolutely no problems with it.
What would it take to add ADB to this rom?
Is this something I could do after loading it?
I'll load it and see if it works....
adb is default
adbd is in the system build by default and is also included on Tmobile stock builds (like this one) ... the only difference here is, I added root!
So you get adb w/root on this build, yes!
;-)

As far as the Work E-mail app in cyanogen's ... I've tried it ... it only does e-mail and as I stated previously I require contacts and calender sync as well (thus rogers) - cuz I can't stand the HERO slowness.
Further I witnessed stability issues with work e-mail app on cyanogen's ... initial setup worked great, but after that, attempting to change general settings sporadically failed with force closes. Just what I experienced, if it works for you, glad to hear it ...
And again I like cyanogen's, which is why I use soulife's rogers remix, b/c it incorporates many of cyanogen's features/mods.
so do u still have to root.... or can u just flash this to a stock t-mobile g1 and it will give root?
get root 1st
yes ...
You still need to get root and install a recovery image capable of installing update.zip's signed with test keys, etc. (I recommend cyanogen's)
SPL doesn't matter (but I recommend Hard or Engineering)
I also recommend you get the latest radio update (as stated in OP), (this is not required, but I recommend), since you would normally get this with the Cupcake CRB43 update from TMO and the whole point of this ROM is to be as TMO like as possible, etc.
Make Wifi Tether Work And It's Perfect.
Here's the HTC Magic Build w/ Arabic Support as requested for the Dream/Sapphire-32b. This build is based off Sapphire HTC Arabic Etisalat 2.56.494.7 as posted in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565859
Before flashing this rom, like most other Roger builds, this requires SPL 1.33.2005.
The one thing this build has extra is Flash Support in the Brower like the Hero Builds. This is what I was primarily interested in, but in saying that, I decided to release a full build w/ all the extras from my KB7SQI's Roger Mod. This turned out to be quite a nice build. It's very quick & the flash support has been reported to be as good as what's included in the hero builds, but a bit faster. This build is also based on CUPCAKE & not DONUT. Don't bother asking if I'm going to add DONUT support. You'll have to wait till it released by HTC. Sorry, but it's already been asked. I hope the few who will really use this rom enjoy it.
Here's a quick run down. Several apps have been moved to /data/apps to support the G1/Dream. I've decided to Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) from here on out w/ this mod. Here's the deal, if you want auto apps2sd, then flash the kb7sqi-a2sd-mod.zip after you flash the rom. The stock builds does come w/ an a2sd script in bin & if you choose to have a userinit.sh script on /system/sd, it'll run it otherwise it automatically sets the platform properly, enables compache by default and sets the clock speed to 528/245 Max/Min Mhz. This makes it a win/win for all & make things simpler for me to have to explain. But please NOTE, the auto apps2sd script I've included ONLY moves apps2sd, NO DATA! It's much safer that way. It works exactly the way Soulife's Roger's Remix version does and it's been customized for this build specifically! Thanks Soulife! Screenshots are posted below.
Changlelog:
V2.7.2 - Warez FREE and forgot to mention the following was fixed in V2.7.1
-Network Search was fixed by updating build.props file. Enjoy!
-QuickOffice was removed as requested.
V2.7.1 - Newer kernel & compcache and theme available!
-Since things have moved around a bit, I'd recommend doing a wipe before hand.
-Kernel has been updated w/ swap_free notify support for compcache-0.5.4 test2 and I've backport squashfs-4.0 from 2.6.29
-compcache-0.5.4 test 2 added
-AdvancedLauncher has been removed. If you want to add it back, feel free.
-compache is now enabled by default
-Removed Google Maps. Grab it from the Market.
-There's now a lite, full, & a theme that can be applied after flashing the rom.
-Lite is basically the build w/ Arabic support removed.
-Full build is as before w/ complete Arabic support for those who need it.
-I fixed the Google Sync Issue. Sorry about that.
-Made the builds much easier to maintain.
-Let me say I'm NO graphics guru first off. I have to say thanks to Soulife, Enomther, TheDude, everyone who provided parts from the following themes:
Hero, gChrome, enoch, zalgo and parts from the Cliq rom & Tattoo build. This is a mixture of something old & new. I basically tooks some png's from each & used them to build a mostly hero theme that had a simple/clean look to it. I hope you like it.
V2.5.1.1 - Fixes issues w/ optimized Browser/Flash Player.
V2.5.1 - Build has been optimized & a few minor updates the init scripts.
V2.5 - Initial Release

Here's the complete changelog:
- The kernel has been updated to 2.6.27-00399-gc7f8bce. This kernel inlcudes support for swap_free notify, tun, ipsec, ipfilter, ipv6, fuse, cifs, cramfs, squashfs-4.0, ext2/3, cpu scaling,. Close to what JF's 1.51 kernel contained minus unionfs support, and I didn't apply any multi touch patches. The kernel update was done because of the following security alerts:
- Kernel security update fixes a critical vulnerability common to all linux kernels that are un-patched (sock_sendpage() Local Root0 exploit).

http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/de...=CVE-2009-2692
http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/36038/exploit
- Updated the init.rc in boot.img to export TERMINFO
- Included the new wlan.ko in /system/lib/modules to be compatible w/ the new kernel and added the following changes:
- Removed most of the wallpaper/ringtones, notifications, etc. Needed the space!
- Added Wifi-Tether
- Updated the apn list
- Updated lucid script in /system/bin to the latest release
- Updated the build.prop to be seen as a T-Mobile G1/myTouch 3G so MyAccount 2.0 works, and protected/paid apps work correctly again.
- Added iptables to /system/bin - WiFi Tethering works great!
- Added Haykuro's HTC_IME.apk.
- Added Java from Hero. Jbed.apk in /system/app & libjbedvm.so to system/lib
Re-added Stericson's tweaked Amazon apk
Compiled/Added Compcache 0.5.4 test 2 w/ARM fix - Enabled by default.
I added these changes taken from Soulife's excellent Rogers Remix:
~added cyanogens sexy black terminal
~added cyanogens log collector (no more excuses for lack of logs)
~clearcache added to bin (clear Android Market, Browser, GMail, Google Maps, StreetView, Youtube cache)
~lowered boot sound in extended (so when i restart my phone at 2am i dont scare the **** out of myself)
Added rwsystem and rosystem to bin (just type rwsystem as su in terminal to mount system as read write etc..)
From Cyanogen's 3.9.9.1 release, I've added:
his terminfo in /system/etc/terminfo
his updated e2fsck, mke2fs, tune2fs, busybox, & his new htop port in /system/xbin
updated toolbox, sh, su in /system/bin
From Cyanogen's 4.0.2 release, I've added:
Added the dropbear SSH server into xbin
sweet thz and that's the only thing i want on my donut ty
FLASH FOR THE WIN
My phone has. everything i need now except a2dp. If we get it then it would the best fone. By the way which flash player does it have?
after flash just found out that this is 1.5 cupcake andnot 1.6 donut..
Thank you for the effort, from a development view point; is it possible to extract Arabic support from this build and have it ready to be applied to any build (Hero, Donut, and possible future ROM’s)? I’m sure Cyanogen, JAC, and the others have the knowledge to so.
Finally an htc magic rom other than haykuros great work can't wait for donut magic or magic with sense coming soon
anyway we can incorporate that ARABIC support in the newer Hero builds ?
can you port the flash player and flash to browser for donut please.. this rom is good
