O2 Orbit 2 Newbie Question. - Touch Cruise General

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post and just have a few questions about my shiny new orbit 2.
Firstly i just wanted to know if the 02 Orbit 2 has a gyro to rotate the screen in applications like the Cruise as i cannot see this option anywhere.
The second thing, is that i see lots of different roms available to upgrade too, is there any particular one that people would recommned out of all of them.
Regards,
Rich.

Welcome to the forum and your Orbit2!
The Orbit2 doesn't have a gyro or accelerometer so it doesn't detect when you flip it to the side.
Asking for which ROM people recommend is like asking which car people prefer. You'll get a dozen different answers. Are you after features, low memory use or speed?

Hi, I'm basically looking for the samemenu system as the HTC Cruise, and preferably not too greedy on the memory.
Rich.

Which Cube for HTC Cruise (aka Polaris)

Hi Guys,
This is my first post and its 1 in the morning, so please forgive me if this has been asked before
Later today, I'm wanting to place an order for the HTC Cruise. I liked the Glofiish x800, but dismissed it because of the potential buggy nature of the unit from reviews I read and of course the support forum is nowhere as good as this
So my question. Since the Cruise already comes with a cube, will I be able to use any of the Cubes created by developers on this forum, since they are much cooler. If so which ones?
Are there any other apps that will work from this site, that will add the kewl factor? For example the 'apple-esque' lock function S2U2 - will that work on the Cruise?
Sorry if this is a stupid question or has been asked before, but I'm a newbie to the Pocket PC and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What IS HardSPL & Flashing??? (Noob)

Hi. I'm new to the forum and new to the world of PDA's.
I recently upgraded from a Nokia N73 to an O2 XDA Orbit 2. I've been looking around the forum and...1 question if I may:
1) What is Hard SPL and flashing and what are the benefits?

Don't be afraid to use the search functions.....
Flashing a new radio or ROM is 'upgrading' from the current ones you have on your phone now. There are a lot of highly talented people on xda who are very, very kind to create and rip OEM and cooked ROMS and other fun stuff for us. 99% of the time they are taking something and making it 1000% better.
SPL is basically a boot loader which allows you to flash a new ROM without turning your nice phone into a door stop.
Benefits? There are a lot, too many to list. You might want to flash a better ROM that will provide your phone with more available memory, maybe this new ROM will upgrade your phone to WM6, or even WM6.1, maybe this ROM will allow your to run your phone in a different language, and I can keep going.
Don't try any of this stuff without reading how to do it a lot, seriously. Also, you might just want to learn, but try not to ask stupid questions. If you ask a questions and the answer could have been found in the search, then it was stupid.
many thnx.

Suggetion of new section for Samsung i780

Hi guys
as you all know , samsung i780 is one of the most powerful pda with a slick design , it grabs your attention even if you hate samsung company, its really a special pda
so my suggestion is why we dont make a separate thread for this device, a thread that has sub threads like general , upgrading and roms hacking, accessories and FAQ, like the one for tytn II or touch curise
so what all of you think ?
thank and best regards,

Seems that this phone is selling very well, at least in europe.
A dedicated room makes absolutely sense.
I would
also love that ! Just stopped using my Tytn II and is using my new i780 as my primary device - the Tytn II is in the drawer. But I love XDA so I would love to have a i780 section event though it aint an HTC phone
thank guys
lets hope we get separate section for samsung i780
would be cool but i gues all owner of this phone think so
I completely agree, finding infor on the i780 is pretty difficult and it would make things easier to make a special topic for it. I have been using the i780 for two weeks now.

Agree with everyone !!! Since i780 is the first 320 X 320 device. New section will help everyone to discuss in future...........
I'm agree too
This phone is one of the best on WM...
Thank you all guys (dariog78, harrisoon and sebastientoussaint)
it seems there are alot of people who are interested on this device ,therefore a new section is really needed for this device.
I jst traded in my HTC Hermes for a new Samsung i780 and loving it. It would be nice to be able to share all the tips and tricks with other people.
Thanks!
seems like i780 is a very popular phone..
I agree, the I780 must have it's own home. I have a herald, but when I got my hands on this baby, wow nothing like it. We should start to encourage developers for this new kind of screen.
While I have no doubt that the Samsung i780 is a good phone I must say that it should NOT get its own section here.
On the Main Page you will see this....

Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.

So Unless I missed something in my search, The Samsung device is not made by HTC. I'm all for there being a Developers Forum for a Samsung Device. If I had some web hosting space left I'd offer to host it. However this is an HTC site and I think it should be kept that way.

but as you can see in the devices section, there are sections for HP ipaq and Palm Treo 750, and from my knowlege HP ipaq and palm treo 750 are not htc devices therefore we dont see any problem to have a section for samsung i780 since the hp ipaq and palm treo 750 had, also the samsung i780 is a special case because the resolution of its display is 320*320 which means it will has its own programs and games, thats why it is important to have a section specially for this device
@AbdullahT
HTC is the manufacturer of the Treo 750 and several HP iPaq smartphones. So it's normal that they have their place on the XDA-forum.
@JimmyMcGee
While I agree with you that this forum is all about developing for HTC manufactured devices I still think the i780 should have it's own place here on this forum. First of all, this site has been created in order to port Linux to the XDA. That aspect got somewhere sort of lost, since this forum talks more about porting the latest Windows Mobile versions to older devices and writing Windows Mobile software to enhance the experience with Windows Mobile devices then porting Linux to HTC devices. So this forum has evolved and I can't see why it couldn't evolve into a forum that also talks about other then HTC manufactured smartphones.
Personally I would welcome a dedicated i780 section. It would make finding information about tweaking the i780 a lot more easier. The main problem is, that there are other popular smartphones around, like the LG KS20 which also deserve their own section.
In my humble opinion I think the current structure of this forum doesn't allow anymore for adding more smartphones. So I think it would be a wise idea to rethink the current structure. I would think more in terms of activities then in terms of different devices.
go for it!

Diamond Vs Touch Pro

Hey I have a Xda Ignito(diamond) currently and was just wondering what the users of the TP thought in comparison to the diamond.
Is it worth upgrading?
Any software improvements etc?
thanx in advance
Did you really have to start a thread for this specific topic? This is bewildering to me. You're really asking for 'it'.
Do a search, you'll find the info you need.

I've put the name of the thread you started and put it into google and look what it showed as 3rd result: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416919
