Accidentally changed the name of a registry key. help!! - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I hope I'm in the right forum for this question. I have a stock att fuze with wm 6.1. While poking around in the registry I accidentally changed a registry key to the letter "e". (I was'nt paying attention). The registry key is under "hkcu" in between the "controlpanelhome" key and "keyboard layout" key. Can someone with a stock rom please check in their registry and give me the name of this key or tell me how to get it? I've looked for hours in the forum.
Thanks in advance

This is probably something that can solved easily enough. I suggest you go over to the Raphael section and post a question there.. you'll probably get your answer fast enough

New SMS softkey missing **Partial Fix**

Hello,
After upgrading to WM6, I found when viewing SMS messages that the left softkey no longer gave the option new, just delete.
I put together this little shortcut which will send you straight to a new SMS.
I then mapped the shortcut to the now defunct video call button.
Download and unzip the attached file. Copy the extracted file to somewhere on you device (I put in in \Windows\AppButtons) and then edited the following registry entry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C2
amending Default from "\Windows\AppButtons\Video Call.lnk" to "\Windows\AppButtons\New SMS.lnk" (you will need to amend this to wherever you put the New SMS.lnk file)
Hope that helps, but you are amending and playing with your phone/registry so I take no responsibility for anything you mess up!
Sorry if this is a known resolution, but I hadn't seen anything specifically in this forum, and not one with a complete solution.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the little tool. I was wondering if the 'Delete' option could be turned into the old 'New' setting without loosing the video call button?
AFAIK No!
I've searched the forums and nobody seems to have an answer for this. I can't find where in the registry to edit either (I'm no expert of registry settings)
This seems like the only option for now. I think the softkeys in the mail app are hardcoded, so would need someone with more ability than I to take apart the tmail.exe file and make the required alterations. Still after nearly a year of ownership I've never used the video call button, and find it handy to be able to go to a new sms from anywhere on the device. Maybe this will be addressed in a future build of WM6? Or possibly someone will give the option of either NEW / DELETE...
Well.. Thank you for the workaround.
I'm looking for a solution, too.
I HATE that "delete" button, it's really boring!
Please help me!
Hi!
Please help to me! i want to create a shortcut send SMS in PPC, but i don't know how to do that? (example: send "GPRS +" to 8125 by SMS)
Many thanks
1. I don't understand what you want to do.
2. This is the forum for the HTC Universal device, judging by your username, you'd be better asking your question here
(anyone else think that HTC has made life a little complicated calling one of their models the UNIVERSAL...)
try vjphonetools do a search on the forums
Please help me!

Inputting WPA Key

Im testing this phone in my company and im trying to get the WIFI to work.
And on my own phone it works great, but the problem is the WPA key
Its about 30 tokens long with things like $&@#$kaLlkm and so on.
This can easly take 10 mins to put in and we got like 200 phones
So is there a way i can run a script or something because its not possible to copy paste the key.
Sorry for my english
Thanks
you can create a .cab with the registry entries to automatically enter that WPA key.
I am not sure how to create the installable cab file.
but there is a thread in this forum that explains how to do it.
its not that tough a job, you just need to find the right key.
frauhottelmann will be able to assist you in this.
Download CeRegEditor. Then once you have found where the WPA keys need to go in the registry, simply use this app to apply that information, and you can then export those entrys to an installable cab file! I'm not to sure on where the registry entries are, but I do know this program rather well so if you need any help just post back, hope this helps
As I already told him, the WPA key is not stored in the regedit character by character, so finding it is not that easy!
i realised that after i posted and tried searching for any network info in the registry! i think the best bet would be to and contact microsoft for a solution, i doubt they would give you one thou! lol

TC SIPs

I'm looking for a way to enable Transcriber and the other missing SIPs on my Touch Cruise and would appreciate some hlp...
I've looked in the Registry for the keys mentioned in a couple of posts here but the keys are just not there so I'm unsure how to proceed.
I'm guessing the entire SIP is missing and not just the Registry entries but I don't know.
My device is bought in Sweden and I'm currently running it with the default WM6Pro. Perhaps I need to flash my device?
Advice appreciated.

Making a cab

Well, I have looked around and found winCE Cab manager as I have googled and searched. There is not just a easy "Answer" that I was able to find, although there might be one right in front of my face.
So, if some can KINDLY just tell me how to make a simple cab, just to change a registry edit, I would be happy.
Just an example as this is a madeup reg keystring:
HKLM-system-htc-software-blah-blah-blah, in key touch, value is set to 0, but I want my cab, once installed to change that value to 1.
I also want to be able to revert back to the original setting if I was to remove the cab.
So, for the short and skinny answer, is there an easy way to make this happen?
will i have to use the WinCE cad maker software, or, do I need something else??
I want my cab to be able to run on my Sprint TouchPro running WM 6.1.
Thanks in advance for the help. And thanks to everyone who refrains from telling me to search as they didn't read the top of my post. Thank you.

Hardware Keyboard "Sym" functionality disabled

Hi,
I have installed the Hornet 5.1b ROM that has Win6.1 as the OS. I am able to use all the hardware keyboard functions as standard i.e. the default letters and default symbol for each key.
The problem I have is that the "Sym" key found on teh Wizards spacebar will not cycle through the available symbols available for that specific key. I.e. If, on standard Windows Mobile device, I wish to enter the pound symbol (£) I would press the Fn key + the G letter that has the $ sign as it's default symbol. I would then press the Fn key and the Sym key to cycle through to change the symbol to £.
The actual Sym function on my current ROM does not work. There is no functionality at all for this button.
I do not want to flash to another ROM as I am very happy barring this one issue. I am wondering if anyone knows how to regain this Sym functionality? I have done plenty of searching and most results will refer to language changes - this is not what my problem.
Hope to get a helpful response to this thread.
Cheers,
DocJ0nes
I just wanted to thank you because I never knew you could do that!
It works fine on my custom WM6.0 ROM.
OK on WM6.5
Just to remark that sym function works fine on my Qtek 9100 h/w keyboard running WM6.5. I'm using XDA2's (Haseeb's) ROM.

Glad to help at least
How is the 6.5 ROM? I'm reluctant to try it as my tests with converted language ROMS in the past have not been fun.
Anyone else know a solution to my problem...?

Well, in general workable. Slow in messaging start-up, but otherwise like a heavily-loaded 6.1 Well worth the "sacrifice" in my case. I use Spb Mobile Shell v.3.0 and have disabled CHome.
Hi All,
Can one of you guys send me a UK version of the sym.txt file found in the root of the windows directory on your wizard. The sym.txt may have a 4 digit number in the filename, this is the one I need.
I would like to compare the file you have with a working "Sym" button configuration and hopefully fix mine myself.
PM me for my email address if you are interested in helping me

Like everyone else, I thank you for telling us about the feature. I always wondered what "sym" was supposed to do. It also does accent marks. =]
I'm pretty sure I don't have a UK sym.txt and I don't know where to get one, but here is my sym.txt if you want to compare anyways. It works, but I think it is WWE:
