Well.. that depends a lot on what you want to have installed
Rember always, the less you have installed (Only the stuff you really need) the faster your device will be
So I can think on:
Office mobile
A nice browser: Opera, Mini, Skyfire, etc
Some nice interface on your today screen
Etc
All this you can find it with search button or entering to your device subforum
Good luck and enjoy!

Where are all the free apps?

I am a phone junkie and have owned just about every type of phone there is and out of all of them WM Smartphones seem to have BY FAR the least amount of free apps available.
Am I just looking in the wrong places or are there really hardly any free apps for smartphones?
www.google.com would be a nice place to start.

Somebody thinks they are funny eh?
So the fact that you don't list even one good site for apps tells me you don't know of any good sites either. I guess I was right and there simply aren't that many.
free apps

Yes, I am familiar with Google.
What sites are good?
Most sites have a few Really crappy free apps mixed in with all the pay apps. Or worse yet have a few free WM Smartphone apps mixed in with all the free PPC apps.

Great, I'll try that thanks.
i know this has been said before, but search google.
stop being lazy and start using the search engine you will probably find a lot more by inputting the right "search string"
you will probably get more of an answer from that rather from this forum because most of these users are just laughing at you.

Are you for real?
You bump a many months old thread just to say: search Google?
Do you seriously think that was not the FIRST thing I did?
Also all the other months old responses were saying: search Google, so how did you think you adding: search Google was going to be helpful?
Anyways it doesn't matter I have upgraded to a new phone 3 times since this thread.
But I still stand by what I said: Comparitively there really aren't that many free apps for WM Standard,
http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/

[DEVS] [APP] xda forum browser! get your dose on the move!

I thought this would be a good idea for an app.. I know this isn`t the apps forum but this needs developing!
Sure you can browse to xda from the phone`s browser, but wouldn`t it be so much sweeter to just to have the app on a home screen?!
I think so anyhow!
I support this 100 % sounds like a really great idea
i`ve seen similar apps on the market... just search for forum in the market... you will see what i`m getting at!!
Shouldn`t be to hard to implement... not that i`m a dev
that would be useful for sure. no more navigating small button on this page from the phone browser.
totally support. its nice to have a widget too
most of all it must b FREEE!!!!
So come on devs...!!
Anyone going to have a go???
Can't you just create a bookmark shortcut for the home screen?
a bookmark is fine... but you still have the tiny links to click, and the zoom buttons get in the way....
wouldn`t it be nice to see all the threads in the same theme as the OS??
easier to read, easier to scroll... just easier!
I think it wud be a hit with most of the xda addicts on here!
I can nothing but agree to this. It would be awesome to have as an app with widget. Damn, I wish I knew how to make apps!
They made one for winmo check the xda general forum. Maybe try porting it might be easier than starting from scratch
It's a very good idea!
A widget with direct acces to the forum you like : Sapphire (for exemple )
A 4x4 widget for best view. I vote for it!
PORT FROM WINMO!!

what's wrong with that?
beats writing the app from scratch...
This would be great! after having a good old look over xda forums you geta massive browser cache buildup!

you are narrow minded indeed.
Can't we get XDA to make this site more mobile-friendly? Or have a mobile-friendly version? Or is there one already and I'm unaware of it .

yeah there is a version, it's called PDA layout but it lacks everything that makes a forum, a forum. try it http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php
Tanks NguyenHuu. Yeah it doesn't feel like a forum. Haha. Can't xda-devs do something about it? That way we have a universal mobile site that works well, instead of a app/widget that works only for Android..
Correct me if i`m wrong..... but winmo is completely different to android!
It would not just be a case of 'porting it' because they are so dis-similar!
yeah sure u cud use some of the graphics / icons etc... but an android version would pretty much require starting from scratch anyway!
i am not narrow minded... I came to android from winmo... and since using android, I can say, imo android is far superior!

O'rly? Then how do you explain the plethora of WM6.1 and WM6.5 Professional Roms in the Tornado section?
Oh and lol, "No way" are two words.
Well, it certainly is possible, but I don't see the point. And if you want, go ahead and port it to the Vox.

Thank you for the Official WM6.5 Rom mate, I love it!
the advantages of a PPC, the more applications
then it is possible? and no one one tries?
It is as possible as pointless...all the applications that would allow with this workaround are created to work with the direct input of the touchscreen...having NOT it would mean that even if it installed well the app would be unusable, unless you use a virtual pointer...which is NOT an usable solution aswell( for daily use).
This explained in plain words
SO why waste time (even days) of life to get working decently a thing that even if it runs well will be totally useless?!?!
Best Regards and Merry Christmas

Ebay Application for HD2 or Win Mo in General

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts suggestion on an ebay application for windows mobile.
I have searched through the site but I haven't come across something which will work for UK and US version of ebay (maybe i missed it)
But it would be great if anyone could develop it.
Regards
Wolfy
Sorry to spam your thread.
But for German users there is an application ( www.myspike.de),
perhaps some devs can have a look and modifiy/build their own app
for ebay.

Want to learn Linux (shell)?

I saw this tutorial linked to from the Raspberry Pi blog:
http://linuxcommand.org/learning_the_shell.php
You can use this thread as a Q&A. There are a few users here that will be glad to help you, especially since you're taking the initiative to move away from the GUI, one of the best steps you can take on a *nix computer.
I recommend you actually try out the commands as you're following along in the guide. It'll stick in your memory better that way.

I started learning Java (having known a little PHP beforehand) from a book called Absolute Java by Savitch. You can buy it pretty cheap used. I have the second edition.

This isn't propaganda but you can "PROBABLY" find Absolute Java somewhere online. Maybe even transfer to your phone for reading at your convenience! Even have a copy on the computer. Thanks FBIS251!(wink)

Who's gotten anything out of this so far? . I've been having fun with a lot of these. You learn something new every day! If possible, every hour

Here's some good information if you are learning about using a linux console:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...ce-between-a-terminal-a-shell-a-tty-and-a-con
Bash is fine but I recommend you try out zsh. If you get the configs from GRML (http://grml.org/zsh/) as a start you will find it to be very comfortable since the stuff you've learned about bash will carry over and it will seem to have a magic understanding of what you want to do. As you read more about it (man zshall) you will find it has more features and options than you could imagine a shell could have.
Take the time to learn your way around a good console editor too. I prefer Vim for a variety of reasons but emacs is also very popular. There is a bit of a holy war about which is better so it's hard finding unbiased comparisons between the two but the wikipedia page seems to do a pretty good job (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editor_war).
Congrats to everyone learning the command line. You will find some of it a little unintuitive at first if you are used to the windows way of doing things but most people that learn can't imagine how they got anything done before they did it.
Good luck and feel free to ask specific questions here. I'll answer. I love spreading the good word.
