What is the easiest way to "unroot" my G1 and reinstall the software version that T-Mobile uses? I have a physical defect on my G1 and will be receiving a replacement in the mail from T-Mobile. I have to return my rooted phone to them.
Thanks a bunch for your help in advance,
Bob C.
I don't know the answer to your question but I'm curious with what do you mean physical defect on the phone?

The screen is getting loose and creaking.
I was worried also but so foar so good...
I had hacked a white phone tmob sent me and the BT radio only had a range of about 3 inches, so to use it the phone had to be within 3 inches of my head, defeats the purpose huh?...
I did revert to a stock theme, but I left JFs RC33 rom on it, id bet they dont even get booted, probably just broken down for parts or flashed with a fresh rom as the first step in "refurbing" the phone, I also sent it with a flat battery, so no sneaky fool at a processing center, its been 2-2.5 weeks and I haven't had a little Korean guy at my doorstep screaming "no warranty replacement for you!, crazy hacker, just hold the phone next to your BT headset, greedy americans"
bhang
no Koreans were harmed during the writing of this post nor was it meant to be in anyway racist HTC is a Korean company thats all...
flashe the RC29 DREAIMG.nbh nad you will be fine. or use the freaking search button, there are more than 15 threads that all discuss how to go back to original state, SEARCH, it's at the top

You must be just as sick as i am for reading the same questions over and over.
I know its probable already been asked but for the life of me i could not find anything. So i rooted my phone now i have to send it in for a replacment. What should i do so t-mobile cant tell i rooted. Thanks and sorry if its a repost.
Well, afaik the rooting process is ONLY software based, as is all of the rest of the process. Ergo it shouldnt have been an illegal "mod" that you've made, and ergo you should be fine, as long as you havnt done any hardware modifications

It does void your warranty because you are altering your phone in a way that T-mobile didn't intend. If you want to revert it back to normal, flash the original bootloader and RC29. You should be fine with that.
One you flash to RC29 doesnt it take care of everything or do you still need to do more, before you send it back.
dont worry
I exchanged mine under the 14 vday buyers remourse cause the bt was shot, I had it 100% rooted hard SPL everything even a theme, all I did is wipe the theme, then sent it back tith jf's RC33 and the robots on skateboards Hard SPL..
To top it off I also forgot to return, the headset since it was a cool 2 piece, tho i may have sent back a one piece, can't recall and I forgot the charger(mains) and the lil G1 cozy also.
this was like a month ago, did want the earphones, but just forgot the rest since if you dont have it back to Tmob by 3 days they kill 5 pupies in your name and charge you 500$ but I have yet to hear about any of the missing items or the hacked up firmie, I bet they dont look to close at them, im sure wiping all the mem and starting over is one of the first steps in the refurb process....
If the T-mobsters knock on my door I'll post it up, but Im not holding my breath...
dont worry about getting it back to stock, I wouldn't/didn't

i played stupid and asked about rooting the phone to several t-mo customer service people and they all said that rooting the phone is just basically changing the way the phone handles certain things, granted i would go back to stock firmware anyway but they have told me several times that if i were to root my phone there would be no issue with it, and i even met an instore rep who rooted his and was using my theme
Hi guys,
I have Samsung Galaxy S i9000 I'll cut to the chase I flashed it with ODIN one click for the AT&T Captivate. "Yes I am numpty"
I've looked but I can't find anyone in the UK that repairs bad flashes of this type.
Is it time to bin it and buy a new phone or is there anyone out there that I can pay to get this repaired please?
if you need any further details about the phone please ask.
Kindest regards,
stanneh.
While I dont know where you could get help for that problem...if possible I'm sure someone here at xda could help?
Think of this as a learning experience and be careful of what you put on your phone and be sure to do some prep reading before doing so. While I'm no expert at this stuff, I figured that was the least I could do before rooting my g2 and oc'ing it.
Good luck getting it fixed btw!
A little update for you all.
I gave Samsung UK a call and was straight up with them told them exactly what I had done.
well I did say I had no idea what I was doing but acknowledged that what I have done voids the warranty and offered to pay any fee's to get the phone repaired.
The man on the phone was very kind and said they will repair it under warranty for me and that I have to take it in to a Carphone warehouse store in Cardiff UK to get it repaired.
I will keep you all up to date on how that goes.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Is your phone dead? does it turn back on to the recovery mode or download mode?
Hi,
No its not dead but the boot loader it has now is from another phone.
I flashed it with ODIN One Click my bad but I'm not the only numpty to have done it.
After reading many forum posts there's a few of us who did this and currently there is no way to recover it.
I just took it to the Carphone Warehouse service centre they were unable to restore it there so they have sent it back to Samsung to be repaired.
I imagine it going to cost me and I don't mind paying for my mistake.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Hi again,
Just a quick update!
So I took my phone back to the Carphone Warehouse and they had to send it off as the couldn't correct the issue in house.
I had an email the next evening to say my phone was fixed and ready to be picked up at the store. When I got there they pulled out the same phone Identifiable by markings and it was fixed!! I don't know if they put a new motherboard in there or just managed to flash it back but it took all of two days for them to do it and it was all done for free under warranty.
I have since rooted the phone just fine.
Before I bricked it I had rooted it and used OCLF to format it with ext2 which worked awesome the speed was unbelievable but I hear with the Android 2.3 update they are changing to the ext4 file system anyway I am just going to wait for that now. I just don't want to take any more risks.
For the record the initial bricking of my phone was when I decided to install Voodoo just for the audio features but it never booted after that I think because I had ext2 file system from OCLF?
but that was the start of the problem then I was a numpty and used Odin one click to try and recover the phone and then totally bricked it with the AT&T loop.
i have the sensation 4g and i was running the gingerbread ROM with beats audio for a month and it was going perfect, i loved it, but i wanted the ice cream sandwhich ROM and i tried to install it but i messed my phone up completely, it would loud to the beats audio screen and freeze, i left it there for about an hour and it still nothing, i wiped everything on my phone but now it says that my bootloader is locked? idk what that means, all the phone does now is freeze at the beats audio screen, its been a couple days and im going crazy, is this fixable? or should i buy a new device?
can someone please help me?
i'd ask this question in the sensation q&a forum.... might get a more targeted response.
Did you install the new firmware from this thread? It is required for ICS based roms. You also need superCID if you haven't got it already.
Look for more info in the Sensation forums.
thank you for the replies, i will take this thread to the sensation Q&A's. Yes everything i downloaded was from xda developes, i got the firmware, i think i did the super CID but im not sure if i did it right, im new to the whole root thing, like i said i rooted it a month ago with the ginigerbread that i got from here and it was flawless, i just made a mistake trying to install the ICS and i dont know what to do at this point.
Looks like your Headed in the right direction, GOOD LUCK!
Advice if you are not really understanding rooting i would suggest reading up on it, and double check the directions as you go along even if you have to copy the guy put it in a note pad and strike out anything you did after you completed it will get you comfortable and you'll do it smoother! If you get into your boot loader and it wont scroll down or up hit your designated select key it will do something and but you back to the main menu, mine locks up sometimes and i do that and i am free to roam around, also a another quick tip take your SD out of your phone and put it in a card reader there REALLY CHEAP, it should mount then you can go in there and delete the old software and put a fresh new copy in there and then put it back into your phone. do a factory reset, then wipe cache and re install. just future tips!

I agree with ride this bike. Unfortanetly I can give you my opinion but you looking and trying out some for yourself will be the best solution. Everyone has there own wants and feels like I want ics cuz I love always having the newest stuff, and even the original devs that made it have bugs cuz its new. Which means even more bugs for the aftermarket devs. So for now there probably isn't a stable version that I have seen. But this thread is where I started from just a short skim of there work they have made alot of progress and are keeping everyone updated to the latest news which is what I like. The place I started is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380478 please note you will possibly have random resets and a bunch of functions not working. Please for the love of God before you go and start your trial an error read the entire post a few times then get the software and do a nand back up. Just invade you don't like it you can go back tovwhere you left off. And also if u have a problem search that thread first to see if others are having it and might have fixed it.

Hi all. My new phone was going greatish. It was a little laggy, so thought I would root it and remove some of the preinstalled junk. All went fine no problem.
I removed some of the vodafone (UK) stuff, and all was well. Some time later though, I get a message:
"Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped"
And now my phone won't find the network and message pops up every couple of seconds. I tried a factory reset, but I suspect this made it worse as I have now lost my backups from Titanium app. The phone is basically unusable as it is due to constant error message and no network.
I have tried to access the recovery menu, but i get an empty robot with "no command".
I have seen some mention of CIDs on other forums but haven't got a clue how to go about fixing it or even where to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as obviously the phone is absolutely brand new, and I'm very very upset about the whole thing! Not to mention the fact that I feel like an idiot!
Anyway, thanks in advance.
You deleted something that was not suppose to be deleted. Don't the stock tot file on this forum and follow the steps to Flash back to factory
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/guide-lg-g-flex-2-stock-firmware-to-t3037593 follow the video and you should be up in running in no time . make sure this link support your version not sure which g flex2 Version you have.
Still no tot files available for the LG G Flex 2 (any variant). Sorry got to wait for some to become available.
Thanks for the input. I figured it would be something like that. Any idea when the files might be available? I don't mind being a guinea pig at this stage. My phone is LG H955 on Vodafone UK.
I am going to try and play dumb in Vodafone shop today and see if they'll replace it there and then (doubtful).
I suppose my other alternative is to return it to LG for Firmware Flash. Anyone know if this is possible and potential cost?
Strangely, I'm not so bothered about (temporarily) destroying my brand new phone too much, it's my sudden lack of connectivity that hurts the most.
Thanks guys
Further update; I have spoken to LG tech support / repair department, and I told them the phone had been rooted etc. (I didn't leave any identifying details!) They informed me that as the phone was now out of warranty, I should speak to their service partner SBE.
After calling SBE, they informed me that LG or their partner have no obligation to fix rooted phones, so apparently they just won't do it, even though I'm certain they could, which kind of sucks, as I was obviously willing to pay.
So it looks like I'm waiting for the TOT files. I hope they come along soon!
Lesson well and truly learned!

Stay positive. Hopefully those tot files come soon. I on the other hand what to experiment with my phone but need a tot file just in case I mess anything up.
If it's just your dialer that's acting up, have you tried a third party dialer to make phone calls?

Lets see if we can work on this.
Is it working ok, just not picking up the network?
How long exactly have you had it?
If you put what you all deleted meaning what folders they were in i could make a copy of that folder or apps you deleted and upload them on dropbox for you that might help get you going worth a shot
Be better if someone had the same variant as you i have the Sprint model.
Thanks again for input. I have hopefully managed to sort this with my provider. I was just within the 14 day cancellation period, so I have arranged for a brand new handset. I know its a little bit naughty but if the phone wasnt so laggy to begin with, I would never have rooted it.
I'm guessing it makes no difference to them as the phone will go back to lg for wipe and reflash as a matter of course once returned.
Thanks folks, I will remain on this forum and hopefully not do anything quite so stupid again!
Unfortunately this is my last day with this device . Great phone but i was wrong the 810 processor is dangerously hot to the point it felt like my pockets were on fire. This my second g flex2 and I'm moving on to something more reliable. Love this phone but this heat issue i can't risk. After 14 days i would be stuck with this phone and i can't take the risk of hoping of getting a device that function fine bye everyone.

Today, I've gotten myself in a similar pickle after applying noob root.. Data OK but no phonecalls and no txts. When I tried to make a call, the thing said the phone is not activated. Sprint tech supp was of course no help, so after some digging I found this: ##72786#
Factory reset, keep the data (and all apps).
That solved it.
I guess I'm old enough to know that being lazy doesn't pay.

so you had root, and while doing this factory reset you were able to go back to full stock unrooted rom? if so, were you able to install updates? i too have a sprint version and i was rooted and tried installing an update but failed, i then unrooted my phone tried the update again and still got an error. im just wondering if this method would actually help people who have the same problem as i do.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
I tried every possible way to install this damn update. Rooted, unrooted, factory reset 4 times, tried to install from the system update in settings, from recovery (which is, at least for me, very tricky to get into) all efforts errored out.
I posted a link to the update.zip in other thread.
So then I gave up and used this noob root which killed voice calls and text.
This code I posted says it does a factory reset but is resetting something else than other factory resets because almost all my settings, passwords and all apps remained intact.. Then I used the original root method and everything works like it's supposed to.
I guess we'll have to wait until someone finally starts developing for our phone.
So after a few days I just received a notification for the update for the third time. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? I've tried it while being rooted and failed, also tried it the second time after unrooting and failed too. Also, what is the default location where the update is downloaded to, so I can back it up.
So far nothing has worked. The update should be in the cache folder. There is also a link to download the update that someone posted in another thread here about the update.
FYI - I forced the update through recovery over root and bricked my phone. Like all the way bricked. I can get to recovery and download mode, but no fastboot even. Luckily I was within my 14 days and there is no way to tell it is rooted... because it doesn't even get that far, so I got a replacement. My sincere advice would be to wait to root until we have custom recovery and stock firmware available, and if you have root now, wait to update until a dev can release a "root safe" version.
I'm not an expert but I'm not new either. I got the original Evo on launch day and have done all kinds of dumb stuff to every phone since. This is the first time I haven't been able to recover it.

=( *hug. That sucks man, thankfully you were able to get it replaced. *pfew I dodged a bullet there. I was actually thinking about doing the same thing getting home from work. Yeah its best we don't mess with the phone any longer those that have root at the moment. Until custom recovery and stock rom is out like he says.
Wow. How did you manage to "force" the update through recovery? I tried it through recovery but it would error out. (Error 7)
I will tell you, as a cautionary tale.
The error when you flash from recovery references a specific file that is incompatible with the update. I used root explorer to investigate further and found that the root script had overwritten a system file. The original was saved as "original" so I deleted the file causing the error and renamed the original one. After that, the update went through and I thought I was golden... Only now nothing else works.
