[PRJ]Raphael & Diamond, Japanese Input and SoftBank MMS CABs (update: 2009年3月23日) - Touch Pro, Fuze General

[PRJ]Raphael & Diamond, Japanese Input and SoftBank MMS CABs (update: 2009年3月23日)
Ok, here is my first CAB project. It is a set of tools needed to enable proper Japanese text displaying, Japanese Input and SoftBank SMS/MMS system on HTC Raphael & Diamond (SoftBank models X05HT and X04HT) phones with non-Japanese ROMs.
CABs here were tested on clean WWE (English) ROMs, but there is no reason the shouldn't work on other ROMs, just make sure to uninstall other Japanese enabling software like decuma, CE-star, Askul's letsjapan... I decided to break this functionalities into three different CABs, in case someone only needs to display Japanese text, etc...
1. Displaying Japanese text
This one enables displaying of Japanese characters, like reading Japanese web pages, or using it for various Japanese dictionaries... The CAB is based on Askul's LetsJapan No6, but newer version of wince.nls taken from SoftBank Japanese X05HT 3.39.762.3 WM6.1 ROM. It should work on all devices, despite screen resolution...
LetsJapan WM6.1 r07
Update 1:
LetsJapan WM6.1 r09, Mincho (Serif) font variant. This variant will take about 10MB on your device.

2. Japanese Advanced IME
This is a new thing. It enables word prediction input in both English and Japanese, and unlike traditional WM5 & WM6 Japanese IME engines, SoftBank introduced this new IME in its newer ROMs. After installation, KeyTouch IME will become default. It only works in portrait mode, and in the case of landscape mode, IME will change to classic romaji or kana input. Kensaku and Tegaki IMEs are included. Also, settings for Japanese keyboard layout are in this CAB, so if you are using some different layout, you are on your own (there are plenty of posts around which explain how to change this). This CAB is only for VGA (480x640) devices (Planning to make QVGA version too, stay tuned)

3. SoftBank MMS
Finally, people, this was tough nut to crack. The CAB here should work on any english ROM, but i had time to test it only on official HTC WWE. It will also install Softbank Internet connection (opensoftbank, that will NOT be defaulted), because a special connection GUIDs are required, so it is best to install this after hard reset. Also, it's heavily integrated into system, hard-reset to uninstall...
The bad thing is that SB MMS application is in Japanese only, and integration with WWE manila / TouchFLO is poor. For that sake, i managed to adopt SoftBank's manilla, check the 4th CAB in this post.
Good thing is that SMS & Sメール works in both directions. And, tatatattaaa, in combination with my Japanese IME CAB emoticons finally work as desired!
This CAB is based on extracted ArcSoftMMS version 5.0.2.23 files from SoftBank Japanese X05HT 3.39.762.3 WM6.1 ROM.
Please report any issues you may find...
Anybody interested in helping translating some MUIs ???
SoftBank MMS r093

4. SoftBank manilla (TouchFLO 3D)
This is just a manila / TouchFLO from SoftBank, in English, to support proper integration with MMS...
(Disable TouchFLO 3D in Today settings before installing)
SoftBank manilla

Disclaimer: the above CABs worked for me but I take no responsibility if you break your phone with them, get outrageous Internet bills, your girlfriend / wife suddenly starts to cheat on you or whatever... Use them at your own risk.
Also, some of the files from this CABs may be found on SoftBank X05HT / X04HT ROMs only, you may legally use these CABs only if you own these phones.

First impressions:
LetsJapan turns my menu text really big and spaced-out. This may be actually be a good thing for some, as it lends to finger-friendliness on smaller screens. It unfortunately cuts back on the amount of options displayed at any one time though. Check first screenshot.
Minor point: it also sets startup orientation as portrait

First impressions:
Dual text-prediction rocks.
It breaks SPBKeyboard4's Japanese input. There is no option to enable Japanese input anymore. This worked with previous Japanese SIPs.
Seems to work with original LetsJapan6.
Doesn't enable auto-insertion of address/number by entering a contacts name in the To: field of SMS. がっかり.

Agreed. Menu text is too big. Will try to make it smaller, when I finish playing with MMS...

Wow, way to go, Zgembo! Really looking forward to testing out the fruits of your labors.

Anybody seen this? IME 31J extracted from the Touch HD.
http://asukal.net/blog/?p=729
I actually did install it on an English Rom some time ago and it seemed to worked fine for typing/displaying Japanese as per Asukal's instructions. I can't remember if predictions worked though.
Anyway, there is a cab available from the above link.
Oh, please ignore this post if it is not relevant to this thread/or it is old information.

Looking great! I switched over to this setup. Couple bugs/problems:
1) the function keys seem to be mapped differently on my hardware keypad now. Is there any way to get it to be mapped US keyboard style?
2) how do I switch from japanese input to english input? The only way i can figure out how to do it is through making the keyboard romaji and the changing it to 英数. Is there a way to make it default to english input, and then to Japanese input only when needed?

This SIP is new ground to me, so I don't know if these solutions will work, but try and give them a shot.

Install Schap's Advanced Config. There should be an option to change the keyboard layout.

Search through your registry for Option3. Change the data of this reg entry from 1 to D (hexadecimal). Close registry editor, soft reset and see if that did anything.

will give it a shot. I'll let you know what happens.

So something happened and it broke both my HW keyboard and the software one. I could no longer choose ABC in most of the keyboards, and when typing using the HW keyboard, it would input but not show up properly on the screen. Uninstalled the J input for now.

softbank settings and mms working
Hi, since Zgembo has been quiet regarding the setting up of MMS, I thought I would share my experiences (sorry if I jumped the gun Zgembo; and also feel free to share your connection experience which may be different to mine)
MMSlite 1.1.303 works fine. See Larsuck's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365760
To get the Softbank connection going (which will also work with the softbank flat plan) get these files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031
Install connSBM (non-proxy version) as per instructions. Then you will need a new copy of wifiwake.exe (to replace the one included in the above .zip)
Go here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462994&highlight=wifiwake
download and copy to the /windows directory, with the out.xml from the connSBM file. Make sure you RUN the wifiwake.exe (from the windows directory after moving it there) soft-reset.
Now, after that, all should work fine with MMSlite and other things that need to connect to the softbank connection.
However, me wants to get it working with Arcsoft's MMS Composer which is included with most roms by default and is prettier than mmslite and has more features, etc, etc).
So far I have done the following:
Note: this allows for sending messages via Arcsoft's MMS Composer and not receiving so please only follow these instructions if you want to test - otherwise stick to mmslite, cause everything works)
Go to Composer --> menu --> MMS Options
Severs -->New
Server name : mailwebservice.softbank.ne.j
Gateway : sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
Port number : 8080
Server address : http://mms
Connect via : The Internet

Send Limit : 300k
WAP Version : WAP 2.0
(make this default and delete the sample one!!)
Now, edit the registry as follows:
HKLM¥Software¥Arcsoft¥ArcSoft MMS UA¥Config¥mm1
 WAP2DefaultPort : 80

HKLM¥Software¥Arcsoft¥ArcSoft MMS UA¥Config¥mm1¥MMSCSetting¥Name : mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp (make sure it has the final "j"!)

HKLM¥Software¥Arcsoft¥ArcSoft MMS UA¥Config¥mm1¥WspHeader
 Accept-Language : jp
 User-Agent : SoftBank/1.0/708SC/SCJ001 Browser/NetFront/3.3
 Accept-Charset : Shift-JIS, UTF-8, EUC-JP, ISO-2022-JP
adapted from: http://otakumaniax.blog34.fc2.com/blog-entry-16.html
JAPANESE LANGUAGE WARNING
Now, my dilemma: Using the above settings, it is possible to SEND mms messages using arcsoft's software, yet it refuses to RECEIVE messages. I have tried various things, yet are unable to work out how to make arcsoft receive. (It does not even connect to try and receive; it just sits there doing nothing no how many test mails I send from my gmail account)
So, if anybody can solve this, that would be great. Meanwhile, I am stuck with boring old mmslite....
Disclaimer: the above worked for me as much as I described and I take no responsibility if you should get outrageous bills for internet usage/and or you bust your phone through editing the registry.

Thanks for the links, Tora. As far as wifiwake is concerned, I'm just using the default AT&T rom for now, with Larsuck's connection cab posted here. Is there any difference between that and what you posted?

I'm pretty sure it is the same thing. WIFIwake was the program previously used to input the password contained in the SBM connection cab.
And it is RayB's cab. Not mine. I don't want to take credit (or responisbility ) I just started the thread.

Hi, quick question regarding the data connection to softbank
I'm using an unlocked HTC Touch Pro with Softbank,
All I did to get the Softbank internet access is add the Softbank access point: open.softbank.ne.jp with the corresponding password as per this blog post.
I've been using it under the packet-hodai plan for a few months now with no problems although I'm using the 9,800yen plan and recently asked to switch to the 5,700yen plan.
Your instructions are much more complicated, what's the difference with my setup?
Thanks!

Your are talking about internet access, and this thread is talking about MMS access.
Tora201 is talking about getting S!Mail (Softbank's proprietary MMS) working with Arcsoft. Arcsoft isn't built to access S!Mail, so that's why his instructions are complicated. That is also why they don't work perfectly.
Completely unrelated to S!Mail access, the cab file mentioned by Jonathan24 automatically creates the same Internet Access Protocol that your link points to. There is no significant difference between the AP this cab creates and the one you inputted by hand.

If Larsuck's cab works, then fine! I have not tried it. All I know that if you use the method I described then you will need the modified wifiwake. The original one was designed for the X01HT.
As for the post about the password, well -- I think everybody agreed some months ago it was not a good idea to post it around XDA - developers.
Regarding MMS, I am hoping somebody can figure out how to get the "receive" for MMS going under Arcsoft..... then we won't need mmslite anymore! (yay)

I think Zgembo is working on that. He is trying to extract the modified Arcsoft from X04HT. Apparently it somehow works with S!Mail.

Guys!
Does anyone have Japanese IME for QVGA (HTC Polaris)? Could someone share it please? Thank you!

I know it's a big site, but try searching around a little more next time.
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip

Thanks larsuck, I tried that, but my problem remained: Kensaku and Tegaki dont work. I read comments to this forum http://asukal.net/blog/?p=96 many people have same problem and there seems to be no solution. Looks like it's a problem with device memory allocation for SIPs. I tried this IME and IME from flinx1 and none of them show those two keyboards. So I was wondering if there's another IME that I can try? Zgembo said in the first post "(Planning to make QVGA version too, stay tuned)" - so I'll wait for that and maybe it will work. Or... i may try another ROM, though I really like the one I have.

A very nice clock near the batery indicator.
Quite fast and stable.
i'll post more later for now it's time to reisntall my apps and games.
PS: please someone find us a way to have T9 in this rom...
here is babelfish.altavista.com translation:

happy upgrading for you guys, have a nice weekend i'll be back on monday to see your comments!!!
What font is being used? is it the typical Chinese ac3 font or Segoe?
I'm afraid i don't understand your question beacause i don't know the fonts you are talking about. please explain!
Guys this really works,
Just installed it on my SP5 over an SP5m firmware. Its very quick to install too. it took 3 minutes to install.
I will advise if it worths.
any news on this?
This is the fastest rom I used on tornado without overclocking. Quicker boot, quicker logoff and menu control. It is very pretty looking like Iphone.
The only negative is that the default input language is chinese, so you have to press * a lot to write. Everything else is in english.
If you are a tech freak use it.
Cheers
I am confused about the language options. If you goto Settings you should be able to select Locale and change it to US and English right? If not then change the registry to delete every other language besides English. I have don that in the past and worked great. However, I am not willing to risk downloading this ROM if the language isn't right. Any other bugs with this ROM??

Saw the link that you gave, it uses the usual chinese font, they are a lot thinner than the usual WM5 font which is called Segoe..
Not a big deal since we can change fonts easily thru Registry

Thanks
anybody going to strip this down?!
would be great to get an aku3.x rom update for the tornado!
this one looks great. wm6 would be better though.
Wow, decided to quickly throw this on right before I took off to work this morning.
The very first think I noticed was the fix for my Motorola ht820 A2DP headphones! No more will I have to deal with the high pitched distortion/noise!
I'm assuming this was either just a partial flash, or it was built upon an imate rom because I still have my imate splash screen at the beginning.
I'm at work now, and I really should be working, so I wont have a chance to install any programs or tweak with the homescreen at all . . .
The iphone stuff is well done, but I couldnt care less about having a minimal looking screen, I'll go back to my previous settings . .
Also, hopefully I can search around here enough to find out how to get my t9 back. . . . not the end of the world but would be nice.
Would also be nice to get the midlet manager back.

Hi, i've already tried that solution but it doesn't work.
it's a diferent input software they used in this rom, it lacks suport for t9.
Can someone who knows how to speak chinese try to contact the maker of this rom (it's the guy in the link with screenshots i believe) and ask him for suport on how to make a xd-devs rom???
that would be fantastic.

[21-Aug-2007] XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 (Full and Lite Versions) - BT DUN is back!

XDA Mobile 6 Release 3
Making your Wizard what it should be
XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 (XM6r3 for short) is the third version of the popular XM6 rom for the Wizard. The base rom is the same, but lots of new features, and functionalities, and fixes to a few bugs found in XM6r2a.
There is both a Full (packed to the gills with apps and utilities) and a Lite (not Vanilla, or Clean, but a "Less Filling") version of this rom.
XM6r3 is built on the OS 5.2.318 Build 15342.4.0.01 rom that was provided to us by InGeNeTiCs from Howard Forums. While this is not the "newest" release of WM6, it is the last known release that was built for the Wizard (ie: its not a port from another HTC Device). Various pieces of the base rom have been upgraded, so some of it is stuff ported from other phones so that it can have newer functionality. Overall, I feel this base is very stable and fast and makes a great base to cook on.
Please Note: this ROM was NOT intended to push the limits on speed optimization or memory optimization. It was made to be functional, stable, and something that I myself wanted and will use. I've found it to very quick and responsive (especially with Overclocking with BatteryStatus), and so far Battery life has been very good for me and those beta testing this. If you have a Battery Drain issue, make sure you flashed back to an official rom before you upgraded to this one, as that should correct extended rom corruption that has been shown to cause battery draining. BatteryStatus is NOT included in this ROM due to how fast changes come out with this application, and not everyone likes it or uses it. If you want to overclock or use other features of BatteryStatus, you are welcome to download and install the latest version of BatteryStatus yourself. I personally use it, and have OMAP set to 247MHz with CPUscalar set from 143 to 247 and Boost set to 260Mhz.
Base ROM Information
The base rom was an "Official" Wizard WM6 ROM that was part of the development cycle of WM6 inside of Microsoft (Dogfood as they call it). The base rom was not a port of another device rom with drivers and stuff pieced and parted onto this one, but this was an actual Wizard WM6.
Windows Mobile 6, OS 5.2.318 Build 15342.4.0.01
ROM Version: 10.1.0.811 WWE
ROM Date: 08/11/06
Protocol: 4.1.13.09
There is no Radio, IPL, SPL or Extended ROM.
What's In XDA Mobile 6 Release 3?
Both versions have the following (Bolded items are new / upgraded from XM6r2a)
Internet Sharing via BlueTooth DUN (like WM5) is back and available! WM6 Internet Sharing is still there, the BT DUN is in addition to that!
Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool and VoIP Setup Tool
Office 2007
9 Button "Touch" Style CommManager from the Kaiser
VoIP (See next post for instructions to set this up)
SQLCE
Arcsoft Composer 4.2.8.1 with SMS and MMS split apart
pBar 1.4 (replaces HTC X-Button)
Notepad editor
Pocket RAR
SIP Config 2.0.1
SK tsync (replaces SynchroTime in XM6r2a)
Total Commander Beta 2.5 Beta 3
PIM Backup to 2.5
Esmertec Java Manager (replacing Intent Midlent Manager)
Oxios Memory
PHM Alt-Tab (mapped to Button 5 by default)
Windows Live Search searches via Google
WM5torage 1.75
SIM Manager 6.13
dotFred TaskManager (with registry editor link setup and associations built in for .reg files)
Regional Settings default to English (United States) and use a slash for the date seperator (M/dd/yyyy)
Menu sounds work by default
Pressing the "End Call" button does not disconnect GPRS but minimized the active application. Pressing and holding the "End Call" button for about 5 seconds will do a GPRS Disconnect
Internet access over ActiveSync (USB) connection works (You must apply a registry fix on your PC first. See the next post for the fix)
Upgraded .NET compact to 2.0 SP2
delayedexec.exe is in \Windows but is not configured. See this post for details on using this.
The Full Release also contains the following
PocketCM 0.9 a finger friendly contact manager
WinXplore 0.3.2
Mortscript 4.0
mUn designed onscreen Keyboard skin (grey/green one)
Mobile Justice (a security app that will send an SMS if an unauthorized SIM is placed in your phone)
TodayAgenda Beta 1.0
ClearTemp replaces StartClean
Pocket Screen Capture
HTC Audio Manager
CicleBT (Toggle BlueTooth on and off)
1-Calc Lite
PeekPocket 1.2 replaces WiFiFoFum
MoDaCo NoData (so you can turn off data sources)
Smartskey 0.56 (DPAD is set to 0 in the .ini so the up and down scrolling works in the Phone dialer as expected in WM6)
DotFred's SoftKeyAppletEx
WM5NewMenu
Mods made from XM6r2a
In addition to the apps listed above, the following fixes and mods were made to improve the user experience on XM6r3
Fixed reg entries for Glyphcache, File Cache, and File Filter Cache.
Fixed the mapping of .pdf extensions.
Fixed AltTab so it shows up correctly in the Buttons app
Corrected the shortcut location of Smartskey
Added more items to the PIE Favorites
D pad now works differently with PIE. Up and down presses on the D Pad stay the same, but pressing right jumps forward a page and pressing left jumps backwards a page. Makes going through websites easier (IMO).
Fixed the A2DP registry for sampling
Registry Entries for PIE Connections to speed page loading
Registry Entries to increase In Call Volume
Requirements
You MUST have an IPL and SPL at 2.xx or higher (BOTH not just one or the other).
You MUST be running ActiveSync 4.5 on Windows XP (Vista comes with the correct sync utility, although there have been issues reported about Vista and sync'ing with PPC's so be aware of that).
Before you attempt to upgrade to this ROM, Please follow this thread to learn how to flash roms, CID unlock your phone, and how to fix issues you may run into! It is also recommended that you flash your phone with a Windows XP computer and not Vista. It will work with Vista, but if you run into problems Vista can't talk to a phone in Bootloader mode!
Recomendations
I HIGHLY Recommend that you flash back to an official rom before upgrading to this (or any) custom rom so you have a clean base (and correct any Extended ROM corruption you might have). G4 users would flash back to their provider's latest official release or the Wizard Love ROM. G3 users can use T-Mobile 2.26 for a good base.
If you use BatteryStatus (its NOT included in the rom!) to overclock, I don't recommend overclocking above 260Mhz, and the CPUscaler settings in BatteryStatus should not be set to a min lower than 143MHz (or your device may not wake back up after going to sleep).
Newer Radio ROMs on WM6 have had issues in the past (especially for Cingular / AT&T users). T-Mobile 2.19 (UK or NL versions) seems to be the most stable, but you can now run newer radios with the attached cab. This cab also works for some other providers but not for all, so its up to you to test what works for your phone.

I've moved the credits to the 5th post of this thread as this post has become too big.
Known Issues
The base rom has a bug / feature where if GPRS is active, unanswered calls may not show up as a missed call and may not give notification of the unanswered call. If this happens, the unanswered call shows up in the history as an answered call with a duration of 1 or 2 seconds.
Every WM6 rom I've tried has an issue where if you use the "Press and Hold" of the CommManager button to switch to and from Vibrate mode, that the ringtone may not play when not in vibrate mode. To work around this go to Settings > Phone and play your ringtone and your ringing will work again.

Radio ROMs
Here are links to a few of the Radio ROMs that I've used with XM6r3. Remember that Radio's newer than the 2.19 radio may require the WM6 Fix CAB that is attached to the first post of this thread.
T-Mobile 2.19.11 UK
Cingular 2.25.11
2.61.11
2.69.11
Voice Command
MS Voice Command 1.6 US HERE and HERE and HERE
MS Voice Command 1.6 German HERE and HERE and HERE
MS Voice Command 1.6 FR HERE and HERE and HERE
MS Voice Command 1.5 UK HERE and HERE
How to not have a 24hour Clock (or how to show AM/PM)
This works on all WM6 roms
Go to Start > Settings > System > Regional Settings
Make sure you have the correct Region selected
Click on the Time tab
Click on the drop down box for Time Style
Notice the little up and down arrows? This is a scrolling region in this dropdown. Click the up arrow a couple of times and you'll find h:mm:ss tt
Thats it. Microsoft is amazing at having a 2 line scrolling region on this dropdown. You'd think they would have had at least 3 or 4 lines show up for chosing (and it would be more obvious that its a scrolling region then too).
GPRS / MMS Setups
First, here is The Ultimate Thread with people posting operator settings for about all providers! In the first post is a link to the thread where walshieau is creating an automated way of setting up all of these!
What follows is a list of automated and manual ways of setting up GPRS and MMS for various cell providers and regions that I've collected:
Attached to this post is the cab file for Cingular users to setup GPRS and MMS.
For T-Mobile US users, here's a link to a thread by Lurch with 3 cabs for the various plans. Famewolf tested the 3rd one and it worked for him.
For T-Mobile US users, here's a link to a post by FZZF that has info for your setup of GPRS and MMS by hand
Here's another link with cab files for T-Mobile US users:
MMS auto config t-mobile.cab (Thanks to marscandybars for posting this)
Here's the settings for the original (Pre-Cingular) AT&T Wireless (blue sim)

VoIP Setup Instructions
Thanks to joaosousa for the following steps!
!!! Only Tested in a Wifi network !!!
Install the wm6voip.cab.
Restart your Wizard (Soft Reset).
Go to Start > Programs > Toobox and open Setup VoIp Aplication.
Insert your VoIP account information.
Restart your wizard (Soft Reset).
Now you should be able to use VoIP, check the status of the service in the today screen.
This didn't work? Then please check this thread:

Connecting XM6r3 to the Internet via ActiveSync 4.5 on Windows XP
For those having issues connecting to the internet via Active Sync, cut and paste this code onto your PC in a file called net_over_activesync.reg and run it (on your PC not your phone)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]

Splash Screens and Splash Only RUU for G4
For G4 users, I've attached a zip file with the Splash Screens of this rom (since you don't get them when you use the shell tool). As I understand it, this is completely safe for a G4 as its nothing but splash screens (no OS, IPL, SPL, Extended ROM, etc, just splash and htc logo screens). I've also placed the .bmp files that make up the splash screen in the zip file so you can see them directly before flashing this. Before anyone asks, yes, the htc logo one is grainy. I had to do that due to size limitations of the file. I tried for a couple of hours to get a nicer version to work but it wouldn't display correctly (seems to have to be pretty low res / non-complex)
If you have problems flashing the above RUU on a G4, then extract this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29158&d=1152698784 and pull the nk.nbf file out of the above Splash Screen file and put it into the directory of this one and run this RUU. You can use the same method for flashing the Radio Only ROM (pull the nk.nbf file out of the radio only rom and put it into the directory of this RUU and run it). Thanks anichillus for that link! You can also check this thread for another RUU that is in English and seems to work for most G4 users. Thanks Vippie!
Weather Panel Setup
See my post in the Wizard forum on how I setup WeatherPanel. It will give you a fixed dll with correct moon phases through 2008, new/better Moon phase icons, and a cool theme called Chameleon-240 QVGA. I dumped SBSH Pocket Weather after seeing this setup
Hermes Black Cabs that may be of Interest
Transcriber can be added back into XM6r3 by using the Black 3 Add-on CABs file. There may be others in it that may be of interest also for some. Included in this file is Cyberon VoiceCommander, Cyberon Voice Dial, VIjay555 utils, and a Slingbox patch (none of these I've tested) and Adobe Reader LE.
Turning off Word Auto Completion
Some people do not like how Windows Mobile tries to suggest words that you may be typing. If you are one of those people, jacob-mda wrote up a post on how to turn it off. Check out This Thread.
Auto Completion for Spanish
User peu found the file to change the auto completion of words to Spanish. You can check his post here for details and a link.
New DialPad to match the CommManager
The EquinoXe was successful at pulling out the dial pad from the HTC Touch and it matches up with the CommManager in XM6 very nicely (see pic attached below). I've attached the CAB to this thread, so if you'd like to use this dialpad, just download and install. Cool! WARNING: If you install this, you can't just uninstall it. It requires a HARD RESET or you have to reflash this rom to go back to the original dialpad that was included in WM6r2! Some love this DialPad and the features of it, and others don't like it.
You can find skins for this dialpad HERE.
If you prefer the standard dialpad, you can find skins for it HERE.
BatteryStatus (for Overclocking, CPUScalar, and much much more)
BatteryStatus is a very popular utility around here and for good reasons. Currently its in a beta phase and the author is releasing new versions of the beta constantly so I decided not to put it in the rom and let people install whatever build of it they want. Also, some versions of BatteryStatus have been known to cause excessive battery drain, so be aware of that too. You can find it in the Official BatteryStatus thread and if you do use it, feel free to give feedback on it in that thread as they are always looking for ways to improve it.
NOTE: If you do use overclocking, I recommend you use the OMAP Apps tab to setup Camera to be at 195Mhz as it can mess up the display if you are overclocked and doing the camera.

Included App Info
Info on Included Apps
PocketCM 0.9
This is a "finger friendly" (ie: you scroll and select with your finger) app that replaces the standard Contact Manager (although the standard contact manager is still there). To learn more about PocketCM and help with this project, head over to http://www.pocketcm.com (That link is also built into the PIE Favorites right on your phone with this rom ). Quentin is doing some amazing work on this and other cool things (like a nice SIP keyboard input that is similar to an iphone type thumb keyboard). Quentin was nice enough to give me permission to include PocketCM in this rom (per his request, you are not to distribute this app without his permission).
For those that don't want to run PocketCM and want the standard Conctact manager back you can do the following:
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCONTACTS
Change "String 1" value from "\Windows\PocketCM.exe" to :MSPOUTLOOK contacts.
Then if you want it back, you can change it back to \Windows\PocketCM.exe
SK tsync
Included in this rom is SK tsync, which will synchronize your phone to time servers. I've included in \Windows a special link called tsync silent.lnk . You can copy this link (with TotalCommander or use WinXplore) to your \Windows\Startup folder and it will allow your phone to sync its time after a reboot. Famewolf also wrote a Mortscript for easy install (since Mortscript is part of this rom). I've attached the script to this post. Just place it on your phone and run it, and it will copy this shortcut to your Startup folder for you.
MobileJustice v0.8
MobileJustice is an Anti-theft app that you can configure on your phone. Just go to Start > Programs > Accessories and click on the MJConfig icon (first time in you will get a message that there isn't a config file, just click ok and it will be created). To us this, check the Enabled box, then click Add on the Allowed line. You can then setup your SIM card as an authorized one, and add other SIM cards IMSI numbers if you use more than one. Next click on Add next to Report to: and setup an SMS number (wife, friend, colleague) where you want the text message to go to if an unauthorized SIM is put into your phone. You can add multiple SMS numbers if you want. At this point, your phone will now be setup so that if an unauthorized sim is put in it, then it will send an SMS (with no record of it being sent) to your Report To list on the next boot (you can test this by not setting up (or removing) the Allowed and then doing a soft reset).
For more advanced, you can turn on the Disp MsgBox at the top and then put in some text in the MsgBox text line. This will pop up a Message box on the screen of the phone after a boot, if an unknown sim is in the phone.
You can also enable RMon (bottom half of the screen), put in a pass phrase, and then turn on MsgBox (GPS and LocCall do not work on Wizards, and the other options haven't been implemented in this version). By doing this, you can now send an SMS to your phone in the following format:
+m passphrase message
Rmon will intercept the sms message (so it will not show up as a received message), and if the passphrase matches the one you put in the configuration, then it will pop up a message box on the phone with your message in it (so you can secretly send messages to the thief to possibly intimediate them (or whatever).

Those that took the time to help beta test XM6 Release 3 (Rudi, Pablo, Moby, Jorge, JL, Tommy, Shane, Ben, and a few others I'm sure I left out (sorry)). We worked out a number of issues with a nice long beta test! I think all the beta testers (myself included) are sick of flashing, and I think I caused all of them at least one locked up phone after flashing... You want a cure for Flashing addiction? This beta test sure helped most of us...

[11 Mar] "Mobile Vista" ROM v1.1 (my Cooked Wm6.1 3.02 ROM)

Welcome to my little ROM - which I'm calling Mobile Vista. Why this name? Well, like Vista WM6.1 the newest OS available from MicroSoft at the moment, and some people say it's buggy but I love it and found it very stable!
Firstly, thank you very much to EVERYONE on this forum, especially to those who've posted in this thread and sent comments. I've taken bits for my ROM from pretty much everywhere and everyone, so I can't list everyone whose work I'm using (as I simply don't remember who I got most of it from). If anyone in particular feels annoyed that I've used their work, please PM me and I'll either remove it or credit you accordingly (your choice).
Please take the time to read ALL of this post and post 2. There are a few things I've worked hard on including that I haven't seen anywhere else.
Why did I release a ROM?
I know I'm not the greatest chef (by a long way) but there wasn't anything out there that was JUST the way I wanted it. I loved parts of most ROMs, but each one had something missing, or something I didn't want, so I set about adding/removing the bits myself. I've ended up with a ROM that I like and so I thought I'd share it. I know lots of you will dismiss it, it will never be as good or popular as Duttys, Schaps, Slueth, etc, but if one other person uses it then it was worth the time uploading and sharing it!
Onto the ROM itself:
It started life as Slueth's WM6.1 v3.0, but I've made a LOT of changes since then - ripping bits out, adding bits in, it's been a blast!

Tweaks:
Scrollbars set at 9 pixels
Annoying beep with alert boxes switched off as default (note, this also stops the initial beep when it's ready to align the screen)
Backlight set to maximum and turns off at 2 mins on battery and 1 min on power
Screen set to switch off at 3 mins on battery, never on power
Softkey's set to New Menu (left) and TomTom (right)
Button 6 set to Comm Manager(press) and File Explorer (hold)
New SMS, MMS, Voicemail and E-mail all set to default to (same) female voice announcing type of message received.
Other Sounds & Notifications set as I like them!
Alarms set to default of the female voice asking you to get up
Start Menu organised into folders (with Dutty's icons)
IE Homepage set as http://www,google.co.uk/pda
IE starts in Full Screen mode
Today Screen set up as I want it!
Changelog:
v1.1
Removed MS Voice Command (over the legal line I'm afraid)
Changed HTC X-Button 2.0 to X-Button 1.51 (2.0 has bugs that caused nearly all reported faults in v1)
Updated Today Agenda to newest version
Updated Dotfred's Task Manager to newest version
Removed Coreplayer as newer version due out very shortly (so one in ROM would be wasted space when new version comes out)
Changed button settings to reflect reflect of MS VC
Changed sound notifications for SMS, MMS and e-mail to reflect removal of MS VC
Added a couple of new games - Patience and Tangled Bugs
Still to Do
Still a couple of things I can't seem to get to set from flash/hard reset. Once changed, they stay changed, just can't find a way of getting them to start that way:
Even though all the Regional Settings are set to English UK - the option in Settings still shows the default of English US
Can't get the SIP keyboard to start with "Use gestures for the following keys" selected
Screen text size always starts at position 3, I prefer 2
BatteryStatus always starts without the extra lines/indicators showing. I recommend (in the options) ticking everything on page 1, then "Show
more indicators", "Show Powerdrain", "Show WiFi rows", and "Automatically Hide WiFi rows". That's the setup in the screenshots.
Would love to change the Accuweather IE Favourite (which I never use) to XDA-Developers PDA forum, but I can't find where to in my kitchen
Getting rid of customer feedback! I know it goes once you click "no", but can we stop it in the first place?!?
If anyone knows of the way to set any of these within the ROM so they don't have to be done post-flashing, please let me know as they're bugging me!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and if you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to post them - any feedback greatly appreciated.

FAQ and other details
Please ensure you use a WM6.1 compatible Radio with this ROM I use 1.64.08.21 which works fine for T-Mobile UK. Could everyone else please post which Radio ROM and Network they find works so we can build up a list of what works andwhat doesn't?
Version 1.1 was published at post 82. Anything before that is v1, anything after is v1.1 unless the post says otherwise
New to this?
There's no shame in being new! Welcome. To flash a ROM:
- Make sure you have Hard SPL installed first. If you haven't DO IT NOW, really or else your phone may well break.
- Download the ROM (links in post 1)
- Attach phone to PC via cable and make sure Activesync fires up and connects
- Unpack your ROM download, and run the RUU program
- Follow the on-screen prompts
- Wait nervously
- When it's finished flashing, the phone will take a while starting up - this is normal
- When you get to the Align Screen bit, Hard Reset the phone (important)
- Now follow the start-up screens until the phone reboots
- If you haven't already, make sure you've got a WM6.1 compatible Radio installed. If you don't, you'll experience problems with sound (not just in a call), the camera and your legs will probably drop off too!
- When you've got the ROM installed and the right radio installed, you're off and running!
Issues
1 ) - (Thanks to Ionutz6 for another great spot)
Even though I've updated to the newest version, Today Agenda still appears to crash if you access the options through Start > Today > Items > Today Agenda > Options. As a work around, please tap and hold on Today Agenda on the Today screen, and select Options from the context menu. Does anyone have a suggestion for a Today plug-in calendar that does everything Today Agenda does but doesn't crash?
2) - One or two people have found the phone is in Flight Mode immediately after you flash. If your signal strength stays with the cross, check the Comm Manager to turn Flight Mode off.
3) - (Thanks to cgjones for this spot)
Video calling doesn't work. The button shows in the dialer, but pressing the button just initiates a voice call rather than a video one.
FAQ
Why doesn't this include HTC Home or the Cube?
HTC Home is out because it takes up half the Today screen, and FTouchflo interferes with Transcriber, so the Cube went out in favour of handwriting recognition. Everything in this ROM is there because I use it, or like it, or think it's cool boasting material down the pub! If you think something else deserves to be in, suggest it - I can always make another version with it in if I want!
Why do you duplicate your links in Start Menu into the Programs folders too?
I like it that way! I've got the most used ones (for me) directly under Start, then everything inside Programs. To me, that's just the way it should work - like on your PC, pinning something to the Start menu doesn't remove it from the All Programs list.
Other ROMs have more free memory!
That's because there's quite a bit built into this ROM, and because there's probably lots of files i could safely remove to slim it down. Unfortunately I don't know what 95% of the files under Windows do, so I can't tell which ones can be removed and which can't. If you notice one that can be removed, please mention it here and I'll clean it out for version 2.
I think your ROMs rubbish!
Fair enough, I like it and that was the only reason I built it. May I suggest trying Dutty's or Slueth's as a mainstream alternative (although every ROM on here is great these days). Alternatively, grab yourself a kitchen and make your own ROM - it's great fun!
Looks Good..
Just flashed duttys latest, but will remmber this one..
I like the way you have tomtom and MSVC already installed - time saver.. Thanks
So, you are allow to cook M$ Voice Command in a ROM? I think M$ is going to come get you for that!
I thought long and hard about this

Good question. I took the view that MS VC 1.6 is available in several other ROMs and has been floating around here in cab and OEM for a while - just the US version rather than the UK one. I'd be quite happy using the US one, but it doesn't seem to recognise my voice as well as the UK version.
I've tried to avoid anything that might be warez, so you can't use Coreplayer without having a valid serial (which you get by buying the software!) and no maps come with TomTom (just like the other ROMs with it installed). If the mods decide my ROM does fall on the wrong side of the line, then I'll remove it immediately from these pages.
Thanks for the replies guys, it's nice to try to give a tiny something back to the community I've got so much from!

Thanks Duncstar! I'm really glad my first comment was positive, I was half expecting just a load of flaming as I pressed the "Submit Thread" button!
If VC doesn't come pre-installed on a production Kaiser ROM somewhere then it's warez unless you have a sanctioned trial version installed. What other ROMs include this?
Nice ROM btw
i second that comment on alreay havingtomtom and ms voice command already in there i believe faria a mod here use to cook roms with voice command already included! in the hermes forum!
I'm downloading it now b4 the fuzz does decide to come.. But nah, It looks really good, and mmmmm games. I probally install it Fri or Sat, but have you seen any problems with it? Most importantly, have you tried to install Blackberry Connect, and do I need to do anything with it? I am really feeling Sleuth's 3.0, But will try yours this wknd.. Congratulations on it
If anyone flames a cook, send them my direction. If they dont like the food, then go to a different diner.
BTW, nice look. Very well thought out. I can tell you took your time. D/L as we speak.

Bugger! I know there's OEMs for VC in Alex's ROM kitchen (tried to use it to convert it to UK) and a quick search shows there are other ROMs with it installed (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356683&highlight=voicecommand , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352203&highlight=voice+command , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332737&highlight=msvoicecommand ). I haven't tried installing each of these ROMs to see if their version is UK or US, but would I actually need to find one with the UK VC on it for this ROM to stand?
Surely we're not allowed to discriminate against this ROM just because it's accent is different to the others? Doesn't that breach the European Human Rights Act?
Slueth, I am happy to go with your judgement. I'd LOVE to be able to offer others my ROM (in case they find it useful) but I don't want to bring this site into disrepute. I'm going to have to go to bed now (got to be in work in 6 hours!) but if you feel it's got to go, please feel free to delete the download links from the first post.
Thanks.

Never used Blackberry so can't comment on if it works or not. I know I haven't done anything to MAKE it work. Could the first one to try (if the ROM isn't deemed warez and removed) please post the result and I'll pop it in the second post? Thanks.
I'll bring the VC issue up in the "inquisitors" (moderators) section and see what they think.
wow so could
this is the only cooked rom so far that works with voice command announcing incoming calls and messages from the units speaker ,i dont do bluetooth so i am super happy ccamper thanks bro for sharing your cooking!
at least in my case, this rom is not working with new WM6.1 ROM 1.64.08.21, the phone stays off. im trying the 1.64.06.04 right now. maybe it would be fine if ConfusedStu can reccomend a radio ROM for best experience with his ROM.
EDIT: My bad, the phone is default set to OFF, you need to turn it ON in the comm manager in order to work! I thought my radio is the problem... My oh my, this flashing...
Looks good...
I like it.. I will be playing around with it some more.. but odd thing has happened so far.
When i started the phone after the update it vibrated for about 3 min until I went into the sounds and pressed a selection.
I now find that I have no sounds at all - ie if I have the volume set to whatever level I get no sounds (and I have tried selecting other ringtones to see if that was the problem)
Any suggestions?
Cheers

do a hard-reset (keep both soft keys pressed and do a soft-reset, follow instructions). it is usually a good rule of thumb to do a hard-reset right after installing a new ROM, as you may have found out in some of the chef posts around here...
Still no luck

Good thoughts - I did try this and still have no luck - I did work out what the vibration at the start was - I had a voicemail notification that was activating - and that was the vibration.
Further tests hav found this:
1. Media player shows that it is playing - but with no sound.
2. Ringtones vibrate - but no sound.
3. Speakerphone works fine in a call - I can hear the caller and the caller can hear me.
*shrugs* not sure what the issue is..

How to Display Asian Languages?

Hello all!
I have the Fuze from AT&T, and I can't seem to find how to display asian webpages / music titles.
I don't want my whole phone to be changed, just the ability to show asian fonts instead of symbols! I tried adding chinese/korean/japanese fonts to Windows/Fonts folder, but that didn't help...
Anyone have a tutorial? I also checked htcwiki, but no one has the answer
Thanks a lot!
You need to link your fonts to the base font (Tahoma) by adding some registry entries. Instructions here:
http://leeblood.com/2008/02/16/windows-mobile-6-changing-the-system-font-adding-korean-support/
Keep in mind for MP3 tags (and possibly also other formats), the TF3d player (which uses WMP) also requires the ID3 tags be encoded in unicode in order to be read and displayed properly.
there is a file somewhere on this forum that allows you to view chinese, korean and thai. search for KoreChiThai
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
Ok, I got my phone to display chinese/korean/japanese using korechithai.cab
but... now none of my keys are working!! Including the slideout keyboard, the home key, the back key, etc etc... It still lights up with i press the fn key or the shift/caps lock, but nothing shows up on the screen.
Also, the onscreen keyboard won't let me backspace, and letter recognizer is screwy too...
UGH... T.T HELP!!
Here is Chinese for you
Here I found something to display Chinese.
Works for sms and some system things (I currently got a Chinese Sim in my mobile). Didn't work for my Chinese e-mails though. Didn't test with websites... Found it as part of a Chinese translation program... But these are just the fonts not the program. You can find ChineseFont.cab on this page:
http://sites.google.com/site/wmdict/wm-dict-general/wm-dict-v20/wm-dict-v20-install-wm
Hope it works for you.
I didn't experience any problems. Again, this is not for input (I guess), just fonts to display.
Try CE-Star, it work, also you can write chinese too
CE-Star ... and what about Japanese, Chinese, Thai
Hi,
I tried CE-Star before and it wasn't really stable. Changed a lot of things on the phone such as fields and text sizes being incompatible. One being too large that is...
Yesterday I also installed the KorChiTha and the Japanese I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
However, I already had the cab I mentioned two posts ago and of course it froze my telephone needing a hard reset
Too eager and too impatient... anyway learned my lesson. Now I am looking for something like KorChiTha (which works fine for me by the way, I only use Chi and Tha) but with Chinese, Thai, and Japanese. This of course to run on my UK Raphael (well I bought it as HTC Touch Pro). These are the languages I need, I know a bit specific...
Does anyone know if there is this combination package somewhere? I don't want to crash everything again by combinging two different packages.
Thanks,
You can install fonts separately. Find three fonts that you like (Chinese traditional and/or simplified, Thai, and Japanese) and place them in your \Windows folder. Then add a reg key like so:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
Tahoma = (multi-line string value)
\Windows\msyh.ttf,MS Yahei
\Windows\cordiau.ttf,CordiaUPC
\Windows\msgothic.ttf,MS Gothic
Of course, substitute font filename and font name for whichever fonts you use. You may also need to create a similar key for "Courier New" if any of your apps use it as a base font and are also trying to display Chinese/Thai/Japanese.
CE Star problem and solution
Hey all,
I bought my TP in Hong Kong and it came with a version of CE-Start which I'm guessing was written for the Touch Pro. I say "written for" because:
1. I tried to install the version which came with my TP on my friends Diamond and it wouldn't install oh the Diamond.
2. Same friend that has a Diamond installed a version (not written for the Diamond)of CE Star and one day his Diamond's SMS messed up. From the TF3D screen, he could read the message but if he tried to open the SMS in Window's the page would just be white; no text no nothing and he couldn't write messages.
Googled the problem and found the answer:
Delete CE-Star and SMS can be read again in the Windows SMS app. He deleted CE-Star and what do you know, his SMS worked again.
Same thing happened to another friend that installed CE-Star on his older WM phone. I told him to delete CE-Star and his SMS worked again also.
Luckily so far, my phone has not experienced this problem; could be because of the version of CE-Star I have. Hopefully this won't happen to other CE-Star users but if you can't read SMS all of a sudden, CE-Star is probably why.
PS If you do get your TP in HK; the version of CE-Star on the Application CD doesn't work...I called HTC HK and the customer support lady said the wrong version was shipped with the TP. To get the correct version which will install on your TP, go to the HTC HK website and download it from the support section. I bought my TP and called HTC in October 2008, so maybe this version problem has been solved already.
?? Can't Read Chinese in the Calendar Notes Section
Hi everyone,
As posted above, I have CE-Star installed on my TP. I can read and write Chinese in everything so far except for the notes section in the calendar area.
The subject line in the calendar entry will display Chinese, but not if I write Chinese in the Notes area. If I write Chinese in the Notes area, Chinese is displayed but when I try to view the entry, the Chinese text is gone and replaced with "???????????"
Any ideas why?
Thanks

Is your TPro set to use Chinese regional settings? If not, you may give it a try. Without it, the Calendar app may not be reading the calendar database correctly.

Hey fhsieh,
Thanks for the advice; I didn't even think about that.
Tried changing the regional settings to Hong Kong but the calendar notes section still displayed "???" in place of the Chinese characters. Numbers and letters of the alphabet display properly though.
Any other changes you can think that might help?
It may be an issue with the default locale ID/codepage, and could be causing the SIP to not send the characters to the Calendar app properly. You may try adding/editing the following keys in order to force WM to use the specified codepages and locale IDs:
[HKLM\nls]
DefaultACP=dword:000003b6 (decimal=950)
DefaultOCP=dword:000003b6
DefaultLCID=dword:00000c04 (decimal=3076)
SystemLCID=dword:00000c04
Microsoft lists the Chinese (Hong Kong) codepage as 950 (for DefaultACP and DefaultOCP), and locale ID as 0c04/3076 (for DefaultLCID and SystemLCID). Please refer to the following:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms776446.aspx
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/win2k/setup/lcid.mspx
Please note: Changing the NLS settings affects WM system-wide. You won't damage your phone, but you may have unwanted side effects. So please backup your data in case you need to hard-reset. Also, CE-Star has its own way of using NLS, so changing these settings may break CE-Star. Furthermore, I can't guarantee it'll fix the "???" character problem, because it may be an inherent problem with CE-Star that cannot be fixed with these NLS registry keys.
I do know those keys worked for me when I needed to fix Japanese input problems on my TouchPro, but I am using standard MS IME, not CE-Star. If you're unsure about the settings, you can also try searching elsewhere for those specific registry keys (DefaultACP, DefaultLCID, etc).
Awsome, thanks for the help again. I'm backing up my phone now and will try these regedits after work tonight. Hope things go well; I'll report later.

Made the registry edits but "???" still show up in the notes section when I open a calendar entry.
The good news is that I didn't have to hard reset my TP. Seems like the only changes which occured are a mixed bag of font changes related to Windows menus. The Programs, Settings, Start Menu, calendar and call history, and the soft keys are all different fonts now: the lettering is "thinner." Other Windows apps like email, SMS, and Contacts have no font changes. Also, it seems that all the lettering in TF3D is not affected as well
Thanks again for the help fhsieh.
One more question: how do you have Japanese (other language) input? Did you have to install a Japanese reading/writing program or by IME do you mean the same thing I use to type Chinese in Windows with my keyboard? If I can use IME (if WM6.1 comes with a language pack), can I just install it like I do on XP?
Japanese, Chinese, Thai combination wanted...
Just refering to my posts above... is it possible to have the combination:
Japanese
Chinese
Thai
Like in the solution for KorChiTha..???
Thanks
I use the standard Microsoft Japanese IME, which I installed through a CAB. I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to ask so forgive me for just trying to be clear:
IME is not a program but a collection of dll files (and other system files, which add language and keyboard support) and registry settings (which load those files). There are programs that can do input without any special IME, but the input only works inside the program itself and will not work anywhere else in the system. 3rd party IMEs like CE-Star are the same, only they use their own dll files/settings.
Adding IMEs to WM is similar to adding keyboards to XP, but it is not the exact same. With XP, you can simply install regional support and add keyboards by inserting your XP disc. Microsoft does not provide such a disc for WM. But the required dll files / reg settings are pre-installed in certain phones (regional ROMs), so some people have extracted them to be able to install them to other phones that don't have it pre-installed.
With Japanese it's easy, since there is only one charset, one regional setting, and one set of keyboards (unless you want to use 3rd party IMEs). But with Chinese it's hard because of traditional/simplified, numerous regions and settings, and all kinds of keyboards (pin-yin, jyutping, four-corner, etc). CE-Star is a good alternative because it's just one single "suite" that can be used on practically any WM phone. But for that reason there will be small problems like the "???" character issue.
The benefit of Microsoft's own IME is that it may be able to avoid those problems. The trick is to figure out exactly which combination of traditional/simplified, regional support, and keyboards you want and then finding a package that has it (or finding the files setting it up yourself). Moreover, you may still have the same problems because not all packages are set up for every kind of ROM -- so there may be all sorts of other settings you need to change in order to get it working.
Still, if you want to try Microsoft's Chinese IME, a good place to start is Asukal's e-China package. You can also search XDA for Chinese IME threads. I would also recommend talking to some of the cooks who have setup Chinese ROMs, they will know better than I exactly which files you need and what settings. One of the newer Chinese ROMs is Jack's Chinese/Japanese Xperia ROM.

wm 6.5 for I617
From this BBS, it looks like WM 6.5 is indeed out, as of 11/27/09 there has been progress on the issue. They are using WM 6.5 28004 derived from the Qing Shadow DIYROM, and based from the 1115 edition of WM 6.1. More specific log changes and general information could be accessed from the URLs below for those fluent in chinese.
It looks like the issue still stands on the Blackjack II's display problems, having trouble in specific to anything on the OS related to LayeredWindows. This would result in animated icons to become very slow and allow only a black background. Transparent effects will be removed, however, but the core WM 6.5 functions would be retained while overlaid a WM6.1-esque experience. A fix has been issued, changing this registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ GWE]
"EnableLayeredWindows"=dword:1 "EnableLayeredWindows" = dword: 1
This would allow for a smooth experience on WM 6.5, and the Titanium Slide will still function according to the source. Also, they claim to have a bug similar to the i200 on WM 6.5, where you would need to alter Alert_Subtle in the Windows folder of the device, and edit the file via text editor (directions on the BBS for the fix says there would be an option in menu to edit when you are accessing the file, and then you would simply just delete random portions so that the file is read different and save). The problem is related to either a continuously playing ringtone or a ringtone that freezes/hangs (unsure, using Google Translate on this BBS).
I wish I could provide links and a screenshot, but Google Translate only got me this far, I'll need someone to help me test it. In order for me to test it, I'd have to register, and their captcha requires chinese characters to be inputted on the dropdown box..
Also, looks like this BBS is just as anxious as many other i617 owners, waiting for the developer to continue developing a stable release of 6.5. This, however, seems to be the first working implementation, so many congratulations to original poster py8 for the development of Ya-Black 28004 build of 6.5 for the i617! Also, thank you Shabudabu for posting the first link to allow me to deliver this information

Download FlashGet first and click the 3rd red button - it will launch flashget and start downloading it. Hopefully someone can use this - I imagine some language modification will be needed.
You don't need a login to download it or anything.

i was able to create an account and download three files from the chinese forum(post 4), no roms. all zipped txt files. one zip has a link to a rom at rayfile but the site requires you to download its software, raysource, to download. ill attach the three zips here.

So I'm a noob with these ROMs and stuff. I usually do iPhone stuff (jailbreaking, unlocking, etc).
So I have a few Blackjack II's (AT&T). How would I go about getting 6.5 on here? Is it too early to have clear-cut instructions?
Alright so I was able to get the file for 11-27 downloaded. I'm at this screen:
What do I need to do now?
Funny enough, I haven't been able to get the ROM yet..still had trouble downloading it with FlashGet..would you be able to rehost the file? I'll put it on my account so everyone can get it without going through the trouble, or better yet, attach it on the thread.
You're very close though, but first things first, because the ROM's in chinese (at least according to the screenshots), best to find a way to translate or change the default language to english and then install/make modifications to make 6.5 more stable.
I've got the rom hosted here:

Someone just posted it to MegaUpload .
The ROM should have a settings for English, right? Do you happen to have Skype? I'd like to get 6.5 on this thing soon .
Yes, I do, but sadly I'm tied with some things tonight. Tomorrow I'll be on here and there, but I know that you will use the bin file to flash the phone..just forgot which of the three you would have to choose. I used the official i617 6.1 ROM updater which had a similar flasher, but of course the three files were chosen by default and didn't need much intervention.
EDIT: i617 6.1 Thread
The OP has posted on this particular thread some instructions in a thread attachment to update cooked/custom ROMs for the i617.

Hmm... I would stick the 6.5 .bin file into the phone section of the program, but I'm afraid it's going to erase all the things that are currently on the device, such as contacts.
Speaking of contacts, is there an alternative to Outlook when it comes to syncing them? I just need to back those up somewhere. I have Office 2010 (public beta) and the Windows Mobile Device Center app doesn't seem to think that it's installed.

Yes, during a ROM update, you will have to backup all information you have on the phone, photos, music, contacts, etc.
My Blackjack 2 has a list of tools/utilities you can use before you proceed with your flash.
My update is that I'm having minor difficulty letting the flasher file detect my phone, it claims that the device is not found when it's in download mode so I did factory reset and trying again. Will update to see how things are soon.

Thanks, although the BlackJack 2 I'm working with doesn't have internet access. Unless I swap SIMs with my iPhone 3G... Actually, I'll install Office 2007 + WMDC onto another computer to backup my stuff. The only thing I need to back up are all the contacts. All the music is stored onto the 4GB MicroSD card.
Looking forward to your result. Don't forget to provide instructions for n00bz when youre done .
I've been trying to run the image downloader, but all I get is [PDA]Device Not Found as an error. Strangely enough, the stock WM 6.1 updater doesn't pick up the device even though I've reinstalled the drivers and rebooted. I've also ran the updater on an XP machine to no avail.
I'm sort of at a loss, and uncertain why even the WM official 6.1 ROM upgrader cannot detect my device. This is done when in download mode or on modem mode in USB settings. Any expertise in this category?
EDIT 12/24/09 2:16 AM: Okay, so I've gotten the device to flash back to 6.1 WM just to see if I can ensure connectivity between the device for specifically ROM upgrading. Looks like it's doing fine. I'm going to finish this reflash and then try again once it's done reflashing to use the i608 installer for the 6.5 ROM. Phew..what a night.
EDIT 12/24/09 3:40 AM: No luck still, the phone in Download Mode cannot be detected by the i608 ROM downloader. I've ran it on a virtual machine, yet it would not even see the device. I'm at a total loss as to why I'm able to ROM update 6.1 official but the installer refuses to recognize my device's existence. If anyone could point us in the right direction, can you explain or assist in why the ROM downloader does not recognize my device despite my numerous attempts to reinstall the drivers?
Seems to be working for me - I just put the phone in download mode (back + vol up + power on) while the updater app is running and it pops up. Did you have activesync installed, but the activesync process (wcescomm.exe + wcesmgr.exe + rapimgr.exe) NOT running? That's important.
I've got it loaded - I'm working on looking to see if there are any other languages built in.
I'll try later today to see if I can get activesync on the virtual machine or my XP rig then and use the activesync killer program. I take it win7 won't suffice then right? Haha..
Also, Merry Christmas everyone =) I'm glad to be working with all of you on this fun project!!
I've never had luck with Win7 and rom flashing - always had to use XP.
I've got the ROM loaded, and I was able to change the language to US English. Unfortunately, it only changed a few of the menus to english - most are still in chinese. I'm going to unpack the rom and see if I can't change it over more fully. I'm not that great with it, though - have no idea if it will work.
