How to change number pattern? ###-### - G1 Android Development

Hi,
Android seems to default to this display pattern for phone numbers...
###-###-####
Which, where I come from, is uncommon.
Does anyone know how could I change it to be ####-#### or something else?
Cheers,
Grant

I have to assume you are using a RC30 or RC33 version of the phone. If you have root you can flash the RC8 version(UK version) this should fix the phone number format.

Alternatively you can edit your contacts in the google contacts editor on your computer
http://mail.google.com/mail/contacts/ui/ContactManager

I'm using ADP1.1 and the number problem is when you enter a number (ie calling someone) or when recieving a call (where the number is displayed as CLI).
I was guessing it would be a locale thing, but can't see how to change from English to some other locale (like Australia or UK).
Seems odd that a developer build has no other locale support than English?

it is a bit irritating how on the ADP or RC33 firmwares it has the American numbering format, but seeing as it doesn't matter when you actually make a call, it doesn't bother me too much.
it would be nice to change it to the UK format though

Is it possible to gain root and how?
Also i have a problem when receiving a calls i need to wait 20-30 sec before picking ;(
I have the same phone, and just rooted it this weekend. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364 Here's the post that helps you do it. I used the terminal emulator on my phone to get the CID, used Qmat to reverse the CID, replaced the first 2 chars with 00 and used the online goldcard creator. You then use the RC7 and you go through the steps and you're rooted. I now have JF 1.43 RC9 on my phone, and curious if I can go to RC33 without problems. (Just hope I don't get myfaves and the probs that can come with it.)

RC33? why not tahe ADP 1.1h? I think it will save you all the myfaves trouble..
I wanted to have the ability to purchase apps from the market, and adp1 doesn't have it. (Piracy issues, but the same issue exists in rooted phones in general)
here you can find an instruction on german if needed
http://www.android-hilfe.de/t-mobile-g1-forum/1158-howto-root-mit-goldcard-loesung.html
i got the same problem like you: cant accept incoming calls and cant hang-up the phone after a call started by me.
it's rlly annoying and t-mobile customer care got no idea what it could be
(strange, then in europe a lot of ppl got the same problem)
use JFs RC9, it has paid apps and no myFaves.
RC33 can cost you a fortune due all the automated SMS it sends to the USA...
Is there some way on the phone to see if it has sent/ is sending messages? I am now using JF's 1.42 RC33 and have no problems whatsoever. No myfaves showing up, and I know all themes work with it. Plus, I get voice dial, and amazon mp3 and voice search. If I am sending out messages, I have no choice but to switch back.
https://www.digital-bit.ch/wiki/G1develdoc here you will find german rooting/hacking documentation, well tested
Unfortunately I don't actually read/speak german, I'm un the USAF stationed here. (I am planning to learn, I've only gotten here a few months ago and started a training class as soon as I got here.)

[Q] Number grouping in CM or Gingerbread

Hi folks,
I have an issue with number grouping in the latest two Gingerbread roms for my phone, the LG P500.
The reason I'm posting here is, that I'd like to know how number grouping is set up in Android so I can change it; that isn't something device specific.
Now the issue is this:
on both Gingerbread roms, (both CM based), numbers are grouped like this:
012-345-678 (don't like)
012-345-6789 (don't like)
+123456789 (ok for me)
I don't know if this is Cyanogen Mod specific, or Gingerbread specific, or even specific to the ROM on which the makers of these roms based themselves.
I only know that in the stock Froyo ROMS which I used (and all roms on my previous android phone), no number grouping took place whatsoever.
So I guess this might be something configurable. Hence my questions:
- is there anyone who knows if this number grouping is specific to CM, GB or any localization?
- can anyone tell me how to influence this behaviour? I'm not used to reading phone numbers like this and it irritates me. I'd either want to describe my own grouping 'template', or just disable grouping.
Thanks!
Bump...
If anyone has suggestions re. where I could find someone knowledgeable about this issue, I'm prepared to go and ask there instead of here
On Gingerbread I solved the problem by selecting English (United Kingdom) as the default phone language.
Problem is now i'm running an ICS custom rom and it doesn't work any more. Even tried some other languages but no succes. Anyone know any kind of solution?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Number grouping has been driving me crazy for so long now, I never thought the solution would be so trivial.
The funny thing is, I often switch ROMs and perform full wipe and sometimes I get number grouping, sometimes I don't. I guess the whole time I've been selecting either English US or English UK at the setup screen
EDIT: If you ever find out how to disable it on ICS, do let me know I'll probably soon switch to ICS myself, as soon as the good devs make the camera work on my DHD.
Glad I could help.
Now if only there was a way to disable it in ICS....

Changing Carrier display name

Hello!
Im using Vodafone CZ but instead im getting "VodafoneYYYYYYYYYYY" carrier name on my HD2 (Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 mango 7740 v3a) and its drive me insane.
Is there any way to change it ?
Thanks.
Yes. there is. you can change its display name by writing the name you want into the proper registry value.
where can i change registry for carrier name?
Just locate on "Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\RIL\OperatorNames", it exists on my Focus, but I don't know which it's your carrier's key. Now I am using China union's network and my key is 46001, then update the name you want as string value to the correct key and reboot Phone. that's what I do on my focus. it works really well.
I realize this post is old, but searched high and low....is there a list somewhere? I'm mainly looking for the string to use for T-Mobile in the US. I set my MobileOperator registry key to "TMO-US" for use on T-Mobile in the US but it still comes up as "US".
I have Rataplan Lite ROM loaded on a Lumia 710 and trying apps that should be able to change the carrier name in the phone app simply isn't working (it breaks the OEM Marketplace after a few attempts so don't want to push my luck again).
I tried Marketplace Config by ken52787 for instance - including trying to dig through its source code on Google Code so I'm coming here desperate for assistance.

Language support

Hi Guys,
was about to pull the trigger on Amazon to buy this phone when noticed in Q&A section that US version only comes with few languages - not worldwide Android language selection. Since I was planning to send this phones to Ukraine to my nieces, I need to know if it is possible to re enable Russian/Ukrainian and what I would have to do. Root probably? Please only answer if you are sure of the working method, I don't want to just test theories.
Thanks.
I have 6045I and just changed the default locale using a local-changing app. You are right - the choices of language is limited to English, Espanol, Francais or Italiano. If you root your Idol 3, you can change locale easily-all you have to do is install a locale-changing app and run it. But I wouldn't want to go that route and I was able to do without rooting the device. You need to change permission using adb shell pm command (most locale-changing app displays exactly how you change the permission) before running the app.
Not all the menus and messages won't change to the language you change to of course, but you can convert some to the language of your choice. The app I installed has a Russian locale option.
OK, good to know. Thanks for prompt answer and good advise. Since no rooting is involved, phone should stay on the OTA updates schedule and this is very important to me. Could you please check if Ukrainian option is available as well? Girls mostly speak Ukrainian and, if I understand correct, locale determines the responses they are going to see when using any locale-aware app, like Google Market, Facebook, etc.
BTW, I tested this method with my own unrooted phone and it does work, though there is a bag of gotchas. Phone settings reset to English (as probably my phone does not use Android standard settings and the one it uses does not have prper translation), locale-aware apps changed language, but only in places, so it's a mix of Eng-Ukr. OK Google voice activation stopped working in the new locale (I can still use voice prompts, but can not invoke it from home screen with OK Google phrase) and Language settings do not have new option for the added locale, so the only way yo change it if someone changes it back to one of the default ones is through the locale app (I use Locale More Pro app).

incoming calls show number only on phone, but show name on Nav screen using bluetooth

Since going to B211 (Android 6, stock or Kang ROM) incoming calls show number only on phone, but show name(s) on Nav screen using Bluetooth. I searched everywhere and it looks like the New Nexus is having this issue as well. The issue was not there when I was on B112 (Android 5).
Anyone else notice this? I am searching for a fix. I have saved all my contacts to a .vcf file, deleted them from the phone, and imported them back to no avail. I always save them to my Gmail account.

With the help of E--Man, we discovered that it is a number formatting issue. I added a +1 in front of a few numbers and now it shows on Caller ID. I guess unless their is a mod for this we will need to export the numbers to something like excel, add the +1 and export back.
So I am thinking this is an Android 6 issue, because I did not have the issue with Android 5, did they not standardize the calling number to an international format in Android 6?
I have no problems on this issue.
Generally we have to grant access to data. Maybe yor dialer app was not allowed to access contacts. So our could not resolve the name. If number format solved the problem, this is configuration issue on local nummer format. Maybe on the cust.
My device: 701->703 Kang VIP B209

What is the cust?
The "cust" is an individual configuration file for each region and model of the Huawei phones.
AJ collected these files from us the last months and compared them and build a "universal cust" wich includes all of them.
The software looks into the "cust" to get the model number and version number instead of asking the hardware components.
It is similar to the method using the "build.prop"
That makes it possible to "fake" another model and firmware.
But there are also other parameters inside the cust wich are region specific, so I guessed it could be also the number format.

Understand completely and agree that it could be it could be the number format
So I flashed the B211 Universal Cust .zip to my 703L on KangVIP B211 and it did NOT change the caller ID issue. I still need to put a 1 or +1 in front of the number to get the names in my phone book to show on the screen when calling.
I did notice the B211 Universal Cust .zip changed a lot of stuff back to stock. Under About Phone The Build number changed from Kang to stock, under Mobile Network the preferred network type no longer has all the Kang options, etc.
Was I not suppose to try this on KangVIP 703L? I'm definitely not back to stock because I still have the Kang ROM Attributes.
For anyone interested, I ended up using THIS app to prepend all my numbers with a +1
FYI, I have two 703L's and one is completely stock, never rooted, etc, never installed KangVIP ROM, just updated from B112 to B211 OTA, and both devices have the same issue with the number only showing on the device when someone calls, no name, but yet the name and number will show up on the Nav screen in the car over Bluetooth. If this helps. Everything worked fine on B112, so I assumed it is a Android 6 issue.
I'd still like to find out why this happened.....
