God i hope so. The google dialer doesn't recognized my contacts that have pauses inserted, and the htc is way easier to navigate to a contact.
has anyone tried pushing:
TelephonyProvider.apk
Contacts.apk
Phone.apk
to the G build from H?
I have tried pushing TelephonyProvider.apk, Contacts.apk and Phone.apk to the official 1.5 build and that did not work. I got stuck in a loop of "Contacts" force closing all the time, regardless of me trying to use the app.
did u remove the stock contacts and contacts data storage before u pushed?

you could do it from the recovery terminal fresh after a wipe....
could someone explain a little more where the contacts data is stored? and how to clear it out, like the commands for it

Honestly...no clue. lol. I just know that in the HTC build it was different than the Google build of Haykuro 5.0 so I assumed you had to swap them out or something.

Well if anyone has directions spill em.
i shoulda been more clear. I haven't done this but if your phone was just wiped the stock contacts and contacts data storage should be absent. It was just a suggestion since we don't know where they are stored. alt-w, alt-x then cp the original files to your sd for backup and replace them with the ones for the H build. there won't be any contact data and you could reverse it easy enough if something goes wrong.
if you've already pushed the files to system, then there's no need to copy them again. wipe only formats the data (and cache) partition, it doesn't touch system.
also, all java-based android program store their data in /data/data/<app class name>.

Nope...I think it's going to need attention from a true dev like JF, Haykuro, or Dude...none of them have seemed too interested in addressing these needs. (not that they are expected to!!!)
Would just be nice to know if its doable or not.
What we are trying is copying the 3 apps contacts, phone, & telephony provider but what i think is there is 1 difference in G & H builds,
H builds contains some additional framework stuffs & G builds dont,
& Also There are some extra or different number of libraries which are there in G & Not in H (Vice versa)
Has anyone tried to backup the dex & the classes file while on H build , Then flash G build & replace the Gbuild Files With the Backuped H build Files...
If anyone tries would be a good shot for it Please try doing so... & Post ur results...
I dont wana wipe my phone currently so I am Not trying It as it contains some IMPORTANT SMS
Please try N post ur results....
Thanks In Advance
I'll maybe give it a shot later. Don't have anything useful yet, and the Smart Dialer from the H-build is so handy!
so why dont people just stick with the HTC build?

Q&A
Q: Navigation is not showing up!
A: you must first "get directions" for the option to show up, it is in that pane
A: MAKE SURE YOU ENABLE GPS!!!
Q: Why was facebook removed??
A: it caused to many issues, and the market one works fine.
Q: What is the latest changes??
A: I removed the build.prop file completely in hopes that it will work without it, did for me... you tell me
Q: What took so long?!?!
A: I had H1N1, b|0W me.
Q: Does this work with AOSP?
A: doesn't look like it, at least not so far, I did adjust some build props right from them but never got any feedback to let it out to the masses.
Q: Does this break CM-Updater?
A: No, it shouldn't.
Q: Do i need to reflash this every time?
A: if you want navigation, yes. Every update reverts the build props back to the old ones.
Q: Does this work outside of the USA?
A: Yes. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!
1. First navigate between 2 USA addresses (just enter them in to get the navigate option to show up)
2. Make a shortcut on your home screen with the address you want to navigate to.
3. Make sure turn by turn is checked.
4 click it nub.
5. drive to the location
6. brag "o mai android is wai b3tt3r thian UR ip0ne."
7. hope to god it brings you back home, otherwise buy a map.
If your paid apps are not working, either wait until midnight, for caches to clear, or flash from scratch...
IE: recovery - rooted cyano - Cyano update - navi update
(p.s not responsible if you drive over a bridge following the GPS, that's stupidity)
(p.p.s don't brick your shaz and blame me or anyone else for that matter, you blew it)

alright i see the prob i think. as far as build props anyway. the only thing that needs to be changed is this line
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.0/ESD20/17572:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys
the rest can stay the same.
this should play nice with other apps, and allow the new facebook as well.
edit: in this line would need to be modded in build.trout.prop for the dream and build.sapphire.prop for the sapphire
also note that you can mod the line in both and leave them in the update. cyan's roms use all 3 build props. but reads from the trout or sapphire depending on which phone it is installed on, since his roms can work on both.
working great on my wifes G1

Android 2.0.1-r5v0.6
Dead:
==============
After spending some time and looking over this rom and ways to make it work with out any legal issues. The most viable option was to build something like what cynanogen has built. His process takes the proprietary bits (all google apps including sync) and copies them off onto the SD card before doing a update. After the update it copies them back to the newly installed rom. This method basically does a automated backup/restore of your licensed applications. I can't do this for several reasons including that we are supposed to be coming from a 1.5 OS to a 2.0.1, which isn't compatible with the older application set.
Temporarily Offline:
==============
I am sorry to have to do this but we are now having more then just a small handful goofing with this ROM and I need to take this offline while I inspect each of the parts and make sure all licensing is in order since its a bit more then the google Opensource framework. I know that several other ROM creators have not paid much attention to it as I am going to now but I really don't want to upset any IP holders like what happened to Cynanogen a couple months back.
I will put it back up but I want to make sure that I am totally covered and don't have any issues.
version 0.6: download (offline)
==============
-fixed wifi thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593620
-Now starts up with Android stock keyboard. (No longer needs HTC_IME.apk for second keyboard)
A few have asked for this ROM so I thought I would put it up here for anyone that wants to contribute to or take from it.
This ROM is only compatible with the Sprint CDMA HTC Hero. It is not finished and still requires some work but its good enough for my day to day use and I am sure others may find the same potential.
This ROM is vanilla android and what it takes to actually get it running on a CDMA phone. It is built off of this GSM variant. I am going to try and work to remove the google bits so that you can use Cynanogens method of extracting your own and then doing a follow up update to install them. My efforts for this is not to build a better rom but to build a cleaner base that has limited to no proprietary IP.
Credits to all on this forum how have helped or contributed in any way to building the roms that are here. I would point out names but there are to many to name. I am positive that anyone that pays attention to this forum will know who you are. I used many parts of these ROM's and many others on XDA to build this one.
This is my first ROM and was primarily made for myself to help me learn how to create a custom ROM.
Here is the link to my blog where I originally posted about this and a video of it booting.
Here is the Youtube video of it booting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRTh-rXKe-E
*Warning*: Don't attempt to flash this ROM onto anything else unless you know what you are doing! I am not responsible for any device malfunctions or "Bricks".
Notes on Installing:
- Run a Nandroid backup before you do anything.
- Make sure you do a full wipe first. (Sorry )
- Run the update zip found * Version 0.6 *(offline) from the recovery console.
To get the HTC keyboard installed: (Now Optional as of Version 0.6)
- Follow the instructions here.
Things that don't work:
- Gallery some times has issues.
- Camera
- Wired or Wireless Tethering (Now Testing)
- Orientation
- Trackball light
- Trackball click (Rolling and moving are fine)
- (Let me know if something else needs to go here.)
Possible issues that are not repeatable:
- speaker not working on out bound calls? I made 30 test calls to my home phone and was not able to replicate this issue. Needs to be verified (see here)

So you installed both the HTC_IME.apk and the Clicker.apk? Did you do a adb push or a adb install?
Try and go into settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Touch Input --> Text Input?
I think its a force of habit with out really thinking to go there and calibrate but just going there may help.
Try that and let me know.
i just flashed it and pushed the keyboard and calibration app through adb and all is well. its working awesome. Thanks!!!

Thanks, but I really can't take to much credit. Its a "Pick and Pull" from several ROMs. This one actually came from our GSM Brothers and then I used the CDMA tricks in this form to make it work.
I keep watching and playing with the Google Nexus Dumps. I would really like to get one of them up and running.
Based on your posting and replies I assume you are re-using the 2.6.27 kernel like the other roms?

Wow thats allot in a little space.
What I gather is that it originally booted, then after trying to install via droid explorer and then astro it now just dies after the lockscreen.
I am not sure where to start. I would just say to do a full wipe, then a clean install. Then if you have the sdk try the ADB install method as Cynanogen's post talks about.
I am working on trying to get the stock Android keyboard to work. If we can figure out that then we don't have to mess with the HTC one.

Yeah, actually some of your work if I remember correctly, thats why its got the same issues. My first goal when I built this for my self was to get past the blasted google bits sync loop. The more I worked into it the more I moved on to the 2.0.1 build with some of your stuff in it.
Your welcome to anything I have learned, its really not my work.

If you tell me how to do that, that would be awesome, unless it is exactly like this:
-boot into recovery
-Mount /system partition
-adb remount
-adb shell
-cd /system/app
***I used -ls to list everything in the folder on my mac, not sure what the command or you windows people would be. But that listed every .apk and .odex file in the /app directory***
-Locate the files you want to remove
- rm what-ever-file-you-want-gone.apk
- rm what-ever-file-you-want-gone.odex
Oh hey, can you include voice search and voice calling in this clean stock rom by any chance?

Wow that didn't even cross my mind. Sorry to bother you so much, and thank you for the supremely quick responses. Also your doing a fine job on android development for the RCMagic. =]
well as long as my phone lives, it's on borrowed time, have to reflash radio alot these days cause it breaks alot now
Oh no, that's not good. Well even if it does go downhill, you can upgrade to those nice nifty new fangled devices, like the nexus one, or dare I say it, HTC evo!
not really the evo is nice but will not work in little denmark
the most fancy we have is desire or samsung galaxy
Oh, thats not good options at all. I'm sure something will come up to cold little denmark eventually though =]
Did not notice there was a separate thread for the spartan/minimal Rogers version.
capy do you perhaps have time/pleasure/both to implement this rooted stock rom...:
1) with ML
2) with extra APNs
3) without Rogers apps
You seemed pretty positive about this on the other thread, hence for bothering you again here
BTW, can anyone tell me if the following apps are inside this minimal ROM? Google contacts? The HTC dialer? The Google Calender? The Market?
Hi!
I've got the HTC Sensation XE with the stock software (Android 4.0.3 and HTC Sense 3.6) but he's very slow!
So I've tried some taskmanagers and app killers but these doesn't help.
To make my phone faster I've got some questions:
1) Does it help to just root and install something to make it go faster? (so all my apps, files and settings stay)
2) Better to root the phone and install another Android version?
3.1) Cyanogenmod or something else?
3.2) Why?
3.3) And where can I find a tutorial to install this for my phone?
4.1) What are the pros and cons of Cyanogenmod (or another one) vs the default?
4.2) And what are the pros and cons of rooting/installing another Android version in general?
4.3) Is there some noob/beginners article on this?
4.4) Can I still use Google Play?
5.1) If I install another version I've to reset my phone?
5.2) I'd like to stick with my apps, files and settings. Is this possible?
6) If question 5.2 isn't possible, not a very big deal; I can re-install apps, reset settings and backup and restore my files (photos and contacts). But there's only one app I don't know how to backup: Smurf Village (for my girlfriend). She'll kill me if I lose the save game. Does somebody know how I can backup and restore that game?
7) Does a custom Android version auto update? So I don't have to update my phone manual time by time?
If you answer please explain why or just give me a link where I can find a good answer.
I've searched a lot but there's so much information about this! But not specific for the Sensation XE. Again, I'm happy with some good links to!
Kind regards,
Roy
P.S. I'm from the Netherlands, so I prefer a Dutch version!

Wow. Lots of questions! i shall try to help you out
1. Yes and no, it depends what you install. A custom kernel can make it go faster.
2. This depends on your preference of style. If you love htc sense (stock htc look) then stick with a custom sense rom. It will stay on ics. If you like the look of Cyanogenmod then jump up to jellybean 4.1.2
3.again matter of preference.
3.2 Cyanogenmod is a "vanilla" version of android. Its almost pure stock but with there own custom code added to it for tweaks and settings and speed and many other things. Cyanogenmod is the largest custom rom and also one of the longest running. It covers a very wide range of devices and many many custom roms and based on its source code
3.3 check the q&a or any cyanogenmod thread.
4.1 Cyanogenmod is faster, comes prerooted and has a massive amount of custom stuff available. It is what many custom roms are based on and you can get it on most devices these days
Official or not htc sense is arguably prettier than Cyanogenmod but it has a lot of bloatware. Also sense its self is quite resource hungry. But with custom sense roms you will still get a nice fast experience.
4.2 rooting allows you access over the read write functions of the phone. It means you can write to the system partition and as such change almost anything on the phone. Once you have rooted it means any app wanting to have root (superuser permission) will have to ask superuser first. Cons are some carriers don't like it when you root. When changing android version you get the benefits and downfalls of that new update. Like if you upgrade to jellybean you get the advantage of project butter (Google is your friend) but with 4.2.1 we got ****ty Bluetooth drivers. But generally updates are good
4.3 Google and xda are your friend
4.4 of course if you want to with Cyanogenmod roms then flash gapps.
5.1 yes
5.2 apps can be reinstalled and settings redone. But you will have to do it manually pal. They will be wiped when you change rom.
6. You could attempt to use adb to pull the data/data/appname folder. But I would ask around before you do anything as I am not sure.
7. Lots of custom roms do push ota updates now. Just check the roms thread.
Hope this clears things up a bit

This depends on your preference of style. If you love htc sense (stock htc look) then stick with a custom sense rom. It will stay on ics. If you like the look of Cyanogenmod then jump up to jellybean 4.1.2

Cyanogenmod is not a kernel, cyanogenmod is an open source aosp built version of the android system they have there own kernels though It will be installed when you install the rom. as a rule of thumb never install a sense kernel to a aosp rom and vise versa.

This guide is no longer relivant to your device as you undoubtedly have the updated hboot. This is what you need to remove the security from your new hboot once that is done i recommend using this guide to upgrade your firmware. This is to ensure rom compatibility once this is done install this recovery via fastboot. After that Simply follow the install instructions from the first posts of the rom thread i have linked above

Yes you can still use google play Gapps stands for Google Apps. What happend was a few years ago cyanogenmod issued there roms with gapps pre-installed and google issued them with a cease and desist order stating that only they, and agreed upon companies could distribute google apps. cyanogenmod stopped for a little bit as they considered their position. Eventually it came about that having gooogle apps as a flashable zip was the answer, as it was not directly distributed with cyanogenmod. from then on all aosp/aokp roms that i am aware of followed suit and started using gapps!

Many, many thanks again! Really!
The most is clear now, but before I start, another question:
Is it possible to make a full backup of everything, so when I don't like Cyanogenmod I can restore that and have everything back again? (including apps, settings, etc. Even my save game in the Smurf Village app?). Just created a full backup trough Droid Explorer, but I don't know if this is possible with that kind of backup.
Read a lot about this in the topics you provided*, but I want to make sure it will go smoothly, I use the right tool and it's possible as I subscribed above.
*in the upgrade firmware guide you provided, in the recovery guide and I found this in the "beginners guide".

It isn't going well..
Tried these steps a couple of times: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
But I get this error: "ADB out of date" with the temp_root tool but it looks like it's working, then I've used the ControlBear tool, here I get the same error and after waiting a while: "secondary backup failed", now my device doesn't work proper!
First a message that locations is crashed, and then sense is starting over and over again... and now system ui is crashed.. Can't work with my phone now! Tried to restart but everything keeps crashing...
Please help me!!
Should I restore a backup created trough Droid Explorer (I think it's the same as "adb backup")?
UPDATE
Replaced the adb files with newest ones from sdk and the "out of date" messages are gone! Just have run the "temp_root_remove" tool and now my device works as it has to be.
I'll give it another try now!

Thanks! Up and running! But... my contacts are gone, they where on my sim card.. When I choose import from simcard no contacts are found and I haven't backup-ed up my contacts specific. Can I go back and get them someway? (I've got a full backup made trough "adb backup" and a backup made trough the recovery)

I had lookout installed, after installing CM it asked to download all previous apps back, so I agreed. Lookout was installing too and has made some backups in the past so I've restored my contacts only and have them all backup again!
I'm curious about the save game for the "smurfs village" app. It's installed automatically, but haven't started it yet. What do you advise, start it before restoring or restore and then start?
UPDATE 2
Sadly lookout haven't backed-up my contacts the right way, so I've got names without phone numbers.. Any ideas how to get them back?
UPDATE 3
Still got no contacts
Meanwhile I've restored the backup for the "smurf village" app and got my save game back!
