Seeing as how I still don't have root access some how, is there any way to restore my G1 back to orginal/factory setup or remove JF?

follow this to step 9. it will give you stock RC29, then you can wait for the OTA updates. Or if you want, you can try again, these are the instructions I used, except step 12, i just used the telnet app from the market instead of downloading.

Beats me. I can't do anything that requires root so I give up. Tried everything over and over again a few times. Whats the point in doing it when it doesn't work and now I can't get any updates? Oh well.

Awesome, thanks.

Crusher its quite obvious, you either dont have root, or you do and have no idea what it is. So the steps given above should help you out, whatever your situation is.

If you have it rooted and want to switch back to the standard loadset..
1) http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Root_For_RC30 download RC29NBH.zip
2) Extract that onto your SD Card
3) Turn off phone
4) Turn phone back on while holding the Camera Button
5) Press the Power button to install
6) http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=OTA_Updates download "RC30 Quick Patch, Not full update"
7) Copy it to your sd card and rename it to update.zip
8) Turn phone off
9) Turn phone back on while holding the Home button
10) Press ALT + S
11) You will be back at the standard loadset and can then apply the RC33 update.

If you have US-RC30/UK-RC8 or higher, you will first need to downgrade your phone to a previous version. (Skip these steps otherwise)
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.

I got to the step in bold. I let it finish and it said press the Action button to continue. I assume the action button is when you click in the trackball, so i clicked it, then i was taken to a screen that had red, green, and blue gradients, as well as a white panel with some yellow text in the red gradient and the text "SERIAL0" in the green gradient. I followed the instructions exactly. Is this normal? and if so, how do I eradicate this?
Trying to downgrade to RC29 using the method in the "How To Root, Flash, and Hack your Dream" thread
did you restart your phone? Green+Menu+Red keys all at once (reboots phone)
oh ok yea i just did that, thanks. I have another question now, though. I bought some apps before downgrading and installing JF adp 1.1, etc. now that i have, i cant redownload those paid apps. The 2 apps are DoggCatcher and Hello IM. I paid 10 dollars each and i would hate to not be able to use these. Someone please help.
i dont know what dofcatcher is but i hve the apk for hello aim private message me and ill give it to u sine u lost ur paid app .

I do this and nothing happens. I press enter twice, press t, and contacts show up. I finish typing telnetd, and after pressing enter it just shows my contacts list.
Then nothing happens after that?
go to the next step, you are fine
Ok now I'm trying to get my phone upgraded to RC33. I downloaded the first link:
http://jf.odiness.com/v1.41/JFv1.41_ADP1.1_BuildEnvironment.tar.gz
I renamed it to update.zip, put in on my SD card and reboot into recovery.
When I try to update, it says:
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.
Press Home+Back to reboot
Click to collapse
Hmm. So looking at the other links...
The second link actually has two files.
And the third has THREE. Huh?
Which file(s) are actually needed, and which one of the three should be renamed "update.zip"?
you downloaded the build environment here is RC33 http://jf.odiness.com/v1.42/JFv1.42_RC33.zip just click the link. if you flashed HardSPL then just download this and rename it on the root of your SD card. and for future reference we are all tired of seeing new threads about people having trouble rooting their phone so do us all a favor. brick you phone and get a different one, or learn to follow the rules and post in a PREEXISTING thread no one needs to see that the n00bs are taking over with their spam about how they had trouble doing this or that cause they can't follow directions.

See, this is the problem. I *DID* follow the directions, to a T.
Notice in the sticky there is absolutely ZERO information about the file you linked, the build environment, or the radio update.
Once I figure this out, I'll see if I can write up some corrections for the sticky post.
I appreciate the help though.
[Edit]: The third link also has 1.41 stuff, while the second has 1.42.
there is nothing wrong with the sticky post, you obviously didn't read the entire thing because i have seen nearly 100 people do it properly by following the steps from the stcky. you should have known something was up when the download you got was named build environment

And now, the last step! You are still running an old version of Android, but you want to upgrade to the latest and greatest update! You can do this, and not lose root by downloading modified versions of the updates.
First, choose a modified image from the list below:
RC33: (md5: f24b6c237775147cb4bc42efc2393973)
http://jf.odiness.com/v1.41/JFv1.41_RC33_BuildEnvironment.tar.gz
Download the image.
Rename it to update.zip.
Copy it to your phone's SD card.
Turn your phone off.
Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
Press alt-W to wipe your device. (You need to do this, or the device may hang at the flashing Android screen)
Press alt-S to apply the update.
And that's it! Remember to check the links up top to learn how to use root to do the advanced things I mentioned.

It also doesn't say you should update your radio, which is required.
yes, and it works!!! again, maybe a rooted phone is a bad idea for you
here
download my root.txt attached here and rename it to root.bat. then all you need to do is copy and paste the adb.exe from wherever you currently have it and place it in your system32 folder on your c:\ drive. and also the adb driver. then just run the .bat file and you're done

Nah. I just know that the messages above are the best way to actually get a response on online forums.
Here are the correct instructions for updating to RC33 in case anyone else is attempting to do this:
-----
Ignore the first link for the build environment.
First, download and install the radio update:
http://andblogs.net/2009/02/new-rc33-based-images-from-jesusfreke/
Download the file "RC33radio_update.zip". http://andblogs.net/downloads/RC33radio_update.zip
Rename it to update.zip.
Copy it to your phone's SD card.
Turn your phone off.
Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
Press ALT + L to show the menu.
Press alt-W to wipe your device. (You need to do this, or the device may hang at the flashing Android screen)
Press alt-S to apply the update.
After the update is complete, hold Home and press Back to restart. Boot all the way into the home screen.
Then download and install the RC33 update (not the build environment):
http://jf.odiness.com/v1.42/
Download the file "JFv1.42_RC33.zip". http://jf.odiness.com/v1.42/JFv1.42_RC33.zip
Rename it to update.zip.
Copy it to your phone's SD card.
Turn your phone off.
Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
Press ALT + L to show the menu.[/b]
Press alt-W to wipe your device. (You need to do this, or the device may hang at the flashing Android screen)
Press alt-S to apply the update.
After the update is complete, hold Home and press Back to restart. Boot all the way into the home screen.

As for why you should to the Enter, Enter, telnetd thing, here is what Pinesal from another forum had to say:
Ok when you do the telnetd enter enter thing you just executing code in the background. The phone doesn't do anything because you are not suppose to be able to do that. But what you just did I believe is execute a program that or a server or something that allows you do connect using the telnet app.

Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully the above information and the clarified instructions for updating RC33 can be updated in the sticky.
this mainly happens because you have not updated the correct hard spl.. you are going to need the modded one and you probably have the original.. that is the reason why it is not working for you.. go download the spl and then rename the file to "update.zip" and boot up your phone by pressing home + power.. then hit alt +s and once it is complete press back + home.. then put the rc33 file in there.. and name that as "update.zip" follow the procedure again and you should have the custom firmware.. hope it helps if not im me at [email protected].. ill try and help you out a lil more..

Un-Do Root URGANT!!!

Now, Idk what the heck is wrong with my G1, but it is doing it. -_-
Ok, heres the WHOLE story so sit back and relax...
When I dound this app on atrackdog advertisment it said you could tether your G1 so you could give internet to like your computer or any other wireless picking devices. Now I thought "Hey, why don't I do this?" and so I did. When I launched the program, it said I needed a Root G1. Now, I tryed doing something with my Ipod once and I bricked it. Had to send it back to Apple and got a new one. Anyway, back to the story. I went to the XDA forums thingy were it showed you How To get root on a G1. So guess what I did? You know! lol I tryed to root my G1. Now I got threw ALL the steps were it said "You know have a rooted G1" and I was like YAY, but it ended up not working. I tryed 2 tethering apps that both said I still didnt have a rooted G1. Now that made me p.o'ed. So I try to fix it by downloading updates, renaming them update.zip and etc... ALL OF THEM did not work! I mean come on! The files were RC33 updates I found on the web. I talked to a guy on T-MObile Forums (a MOD named Chris) and he tryed to help me. He went on vacation for the weekend so I will try to fix it myself by asking you guys Back to the story, he told me (chris) that I need towait for a automaticly update during the day. Well I waited and got one. Everytime I try to update it it does the normal rutine. Resets, goes to the box unpacking software to the G1, swirly line, starts to load, and poof! I get a screen that has a tringle with a explimation mark in it. I ushally pressed the alt-l to see the list, aand then pressed alt-s to download from sd. Didnt work (probily becouse it is not coming from the sdcard, but from online ) so I reset phone. Chris (the mod) told me to wait on the screen becouse it might be just loading on there for the update. Well I waited for 3 hours and it stayed on the ! mark! So now I am stuck with a G1 that says it is and isnt rooted (maybe bricked, hope not becouse it still works...) and I REALLY need help!!!
Now I have restarted (meaning master reset) the thing 3 times already! I will do it again ONLY IF this is the only way it will work.
Please Help ASAP!

You can just put a standard update.zip onto the sdcard (use an external card reader) and Alt-S as normal. If for some reason you can't get the update.zip to work (for example if you already replaced the keys with testkeys) then the absolute end-all-complete-start-from-scratch is to use the DREAIMG.NBH file. Follow steps 1 through 6 in "Preparing to get root" at this thread. After that, you can apply official updates normally.
I suggest you not attempt to root your phone after you recover it.
you need to revert back to RC29, follow the instructions in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
then you can up date to RC30 then to RC33 manually or just wait for the
phone to get the updates on its own.

Hey i just wanted to point out... in step 12 part D u put the two files on the root of sd card... then in E and or step 13 u mention to partition the sd card in fat32/ext2/swap.... when u do that it wipes the sd card to put the two files after you partition the card FYI.... the rest is looking good so far with ur guide..
well just tried it and goes thru green mytouch screen then the blue android logo -then just a blank screen with the backlight on. waited like 5 minutes-nothing... maybe it just takes a long time.. idk didn't see any errors and everything completed successfully except wont boot all the way.
**Update - I forgot to do a wipe *doh -- works great ! on mt3g --I did install the nbh from goldcard on first step though as I had 1.33.0006 perfected spl... Nice job on the walk through.
A noob who took the time to read and search and read and search and ya...this worked flawlessly on a week old MT3G.
Followed to a T...was a little slow on the green mytouch screen and the blue android screen but after that its worked like a charm...responsive, no issues.
A big thanks to rjan22, et. al.
Would this be exactly the same on a (Vodafone) HTC Magic? Got one off ebay yesterday and want to try the cyanogen rom. Cheers
you are the BOMB!!! thanks alot now i need to know if now since i have successfully rooted my mytouch can i just update a new rom without nething being affected.. thanks again
the marketplace doesnt seem to work =( everything else works flawlessly

cmon, anyone? Could it be because I've update LP while I wasn't on 326? I've follow the procedure on huawei site, can't remember on what version I was, could it be 125 or 128...is the rollback possible if I don't know on what version I was?
Same here, I'll just wait for MM..
I had the same issue before on B324, B326 & B331. For me though I always did an "upgrade" install by using the software updater in settings. I recently flashed B326 using the 3 button restore with the B326 update.app file in dload folder and since then my notifications on Facebook work perfectly. I suggest make a backup, place your dload/update.app file and use 3 button reset then restore from your backup. Worth a try maybe, unless of course you've already done that and I got lucky, haven't done a control test myself to be sure...

I assume you mean B331? Not sure I've seen 311.
Note: the backup is optional. Not really necessary if you don't have any data to save. But take caution as this process WIPES ALL DATA from your phone memory.
1. Make a backup: Launch the app named "Backup" and create new backup, save to memory card
2. Get the UPDATE.APP file from your download of the rom you're running (example B331) and store it in the root of your phone/mem card in a folder named "dload" (example: sdcard/dload/update.app)
3. Power off the phone
4. Enter recovery by holding down the 2 volume keys and then power on the phone while continuing to hold the volume keys. You can release the power button once it comes on.
5. Once the recovery screen opens you can release the volume keys.
6. Wait for finish and phone will restart automatically
7. Follow prompts on screen and when finished you can restore your backup made in step 1
So it's just update 331 over 331? Btw, all of my updates were using recovery (2 volume buttons + power), you sure this works?

Well then I'm not sure. All I can say is that's the last thing I did before my Facebook notifications worked. But I did it for 326, haven't tried the same method with 331, I found it a bit buggy and it didn't give me the Swype keyboard which I'd become quite comfortable with.
