Hi,
I've been reading through all the information on the Universal and the various available ROMs.
I'm really impressed with the huge range of stuff available, but also not really sure which to choose.
I'm using a 64MB G3 Universal (UK, originally Vodafone, now on T-Mobile)
Just wondering whether anybody would be able to point me towards a really rock solid build? Some additional functionality over original WM5 would be nice, but reliability is king.
As I say, I've read through the lists etc (and got a bit of lost with all the variety), but far more valuable is a recommendation from somebody who has used them and knows which is least likely to crash.
Thanks in advance!
Tom.

Good day:
I recently purchased a Cingular 8125 on eBay... It should be coming in the mail today hopefully. I have been reading up on these upgrade ROMs, and I understand I have a few different options.
I am looking to possibly upgrade this phone to WM6.
I understand there are plenty of general FAQ's on these ROMs, but I am looking for some personal experiences on this particular phone. What ROMs have people used, what would you recommend for this phone? Any do's and don'ts? Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Welcome to the group...
Other than physical appearance, all Wizards are the same.
Whether it be a 9100, MDA, 8125... Once flashed with the same ROM, usability will be the same.
In the meanwhile, take some time to read at least the stickies in the Wizard subforum and once you get your phone, determine whether it's a G3 or G4.
Cool thanks for the info man. Yeah I have been reading through the stickies, I saw the guide there that you are talking about. There is some pretty good stuff up there. Just was lookin for some personal experiences and such.
Thanks!
Edit: Just noticed you got the 8125. How does your's work with all that stuff on there? Any bugs or anything? Any general downsides from using that or just using the factory WM5?
I'm actually experimenting with a different rom now... I normally change my sig only when I'm sufficiently satisfied with the current configuration.
BatteryStatus and Oxios Memory are highly recommended and doesn't interfere with the functionality of any ROM. Voice Command is just preference although some people argue that Speed Dialer is better.
all i can say is dont think that your an expert after you've flash a few roms. believe me when i say you'll get careless and **** somethin up. i stupidly tried to flash ipl/spl rom on my G4 8125 and bricked it. i got it replaced by AT&T but damn if that feeling didnt suck. just be careful, pay attention and have fun. b4 you know it you'll be addicted. just like everyone else
im a cingular 8125 user as well, however im using the T-mobile service on it. What i can say about roms is that, you have to thank some of the people on here that make the kitchens and the roms. They spend time figuring out and fixing bugs that we all have. The best bet is to keep trying a rom, until "it fits your needs" and is stable. The things i look for is
#1 Stability - (no errors, bugs)
#2 performance - (speed, boot-time.. etc)
#3 battery consumption
just courious to know how many other users have this device? can't be just me can it??
i chose this because of the screen size (all the better for surfing with)
if there are enough of us we could request the mods add us a section so can start to 'develop' specifically for this device
add your responces folks
poll added for Panda owners -do we want our own thread? yes or no
Chris
i can't be the only one with a htc 6300
can i
I was just looking at this right now. I currently have an o2 XDA IIs, and was wondering if this was the upgrade/replacement for it?
Have you compared it to IIs at all? I'd be interested to know if it's worth getting (IIs colour scheme is better IMO =P)
I don't have a Panda yet, but am looking at them for the reasons you mentioned. If you read through the About XDA Developers sub forum in the general forum, it has been already asked for, but asking again can't hurt.

hi steve, have checked and responded to all of the threads so i know there are users out there. have had mine for about 4 months now and am impressed. the large screen makes it easy to use and most applications work fine. the only issue i have is that is wm5 only at the mo, does limit the operation a bit as 6 would be faster. still can't have it all
hi angerfist7777,
my understanding is that the argon is the updates version of the 2/2i. info and specs can be foung on gsmarena.
i find that it is a good device the only limit is no 3g but using opera mini this is not an issue, also the wifi works well?
Thats good to hear. I think there are enough people here with them to get a forum going. Then that should generate enough interest to get some development going.

I'm using the BA at the moment, same sie screen, and slide out keyboard. I like it, it's a bit bulky, and I'm not too fond of the screen style, size, love it, but I'd prefer a harder screen to it, maybe like the kind of screen on the iPhone etc. but anyway.
the BA has had enough development for several WM6 roms going. The reason I asked if it was the upgrade to the BA was maybe those roms could be used on it with a little tweaking. I don't know enought o do so myself, but am interested.
anyone know if there is a radio upgrade avaliable?

so far only the stock rom and radio as far as I can find out.
we need more users to push either this or one of the other threads to generate more interest
can then hope to push for a sub forum and start to develop
I have an HTC P6300 and I love it! When a device specific forum section?
Firstly hello! This is my first post on here so go easy please
Secondly I need some advice, I am at a stage where i need to replace my current phone and i have been looking at the O2 Orbit2. I don't like to buy without reading a review but they all seem very conflicting. You guy's seem to know what you are talking about so i would welcome your opinions / options.
My current phone is the Nokia E61 but it struggles now so it has to go, I also have to change networks because Vodafone has little or no coverage at my new house.
Thanks in advance!
Nick.
Nick, it might help a little if you state what you expect from the device, I am currently using an Orbit-2 on a T-Mobile contracted sim card, what applicatons/ software or GPS based applications do you want/ need from this device - Mike
Thanks for the reply Mike, sorry for the delay in reply and the sketchy original post. My main uses are web access/email and Excel/powerpoint based programs not sure how it would cope with these. Also any troubles with PC sync as this is something I do regularly and would be a pain if it was unstable!
The reviews I have seen have been very mixed hence i thought I would ask the experts.
Thanks again in advance.
Nick.
Hello Guys,
I have coming to this forum for a while and have always been thankful for the help and advice and for making my old MDA work the way is was meant to ;-).
Alas, the thing dies and I wanted to get something new so I bought this thing on eBay;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=290268552198
They call it the hTY Touch Flo or Hantel Q5and it is pre-loaded with WM6. It says it has built in GPS and a few other goodies but the iGo software just hangs the phone and does not fit the screen width and I have no way of changing it. It is also lacking some of the previous great features that I had especially with mfrazz's cooked rom.
I've scanned the forums and tried to search for this phone without much luck and was wondering if it might be similar enough to one of the phones on this forum to piggy back off of.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance.
I couldn´t find anything on this device, it seems a copy of HTC
Its actually quite cool and so far so good but, I need the little extras that were always available here.
I thought I'd leave you all with the ROM comparisons that I did when I was actively using my Universal. Half way through I upgraded to 128 MB, so this is reflected in some of the memory readings.
These are my own personal findings - I tested programs on the ROMs that I was interested in. Perhaps I'm opening a can of worms here, but I hope you find it useful.
Thanks Jonny!
Great information, will add to the FAQ
How do you feel with your new Rhodium?
My new rhodium is great - I'm not looking back! (Oops, perhaps I shouldn't have posted that here!). I know it doesn't run WP7, but there is certainly life in it yet (and I have a lot of bought programs which run on WM6.5 only, so I'm quite happy).
I enjoyed too my Rhodium!
And moved to Leo was a big shock for me coming from a real keyboard line devices...
I expect to go back to keyboard devices soon as I find a similar spec HTC device
Jonny could You paste this file with .xls extention? I don't have Office 2007 and i cannot get into it
Thx in advance

buzolek
Ok, updated first post to include excel 2003 version Rom Compare3.xls
very useful information!thanks
Great
OMG...
You HAVE used your Uni buddy!
And I thought I was a serious user...still using though...nobody in my town knows what a 128 MB Uni means to me...will just keep it till I grow old.
I'm waiting for a really good WP7 piece...checked one HD7...but the software glithces.. or shortcomings are too many....let's see.
Hey kalya! nice to see you around
Perhaps would be wise to wait for Touch Pro 7

Great job!! Obrigado!
what next?
I don't know Orb...which would be my WP7 handset.
As always , win mo are dull, very down to earth, mature looking gadgets...they will never be fun and I accept that....
Just waiting for a great hardware & the new OS's perfect synchronisation.
Uni was it...we got maximum from it...but my country's mobile network never caught up with the handset.
Just waiting for it...hoping...HTC would almost deliver and I know XDA members will make it perfect.
Yes it´s true...
I have played with WP7 on my Leo and decided to go back to WM/Android as it´s to damn closed platform it seems like apple...
If WM is really dying which I doubt I think I go to Android instead...
Please let me know what you finally decide to upgrade
Cheers,
Maybe Galaxy Tab if nothing good comes out in the near future.
We win mo users don't want a new OS or high config devices as much we need really new --FRESH-- apps, but maybe the new apps reqire both the things..OS+new hardware.
Otherwise I stll have some of the handsets in my sig(and some nokia ones also)
