Most complete way to reset everything.. - G1 Android Development

What is the most complete way to reset/reformat the phone and start with 1.41.
Is it simply a wipe and reupdate 1.41?
I've been having an annoying issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476122
It still hasnt resolved even after a wipe and reupdate, so i figure its one of the apps im installing.
Regardless I need some assistance, and it would really be appreciated.

[Q] Do I need to wipe data if I'm upgrading the same ROM?

I am relatively new to flashing ROMs & kernels for Android. Currently I'm using MIUI 1.5.6 and would like to upgrade to the newest version of 1.5.13.
My question is, do I have to wipe data if I'm just upgrading to the same ROM or would wiping cahce & Dalvik cache be sufficient?
Before anyone flaming me I have searched the forum prior to posting and surprisingly didn't find anything useful as I thought this would be a frequently asked question.
Thanks in advance!
I never clear if i'm gonna do the same rom and it seems to work perfect. So I'd say dont it takes less time but if your worried do it. clearing that stuff wont really loose anything so its your choice really
I think you ALWAYS should do a backup, just in case something goes wrong.
You have the device at the Computer, you have the cable hooked up.
What would it take... about 5 minutes to do the backup up ??
oddball69 is right. You should always do a wipe.
Just to avoid problems
Most of the Devs will specify for each version if a full wipe is not required. If you can't find anything about it then do a full wipe.
If they directly say a wipe is not required then it's probably just some small fixes.
Thanks for all the responses.
I was going to do a backup for sure I just wanted to avoid having to wipe everything and then reinstalling and re-setting up all my apps which could be quite a pain
Depends on the ROMs used, usually the developers state if this is necessary.
It wont hurt if you try without wiping, if it makes problem just wipe and do it again.
What is there to loose?

Stuck on Checking Permissions

Im coming from ICBINB and decided to flash Audiofile, but it seems to be stuck at checking permissions, just wondering if i can take out my battery or will that hard brick my phone or what steps should i take?
congratz on your first post..
I think, the problem has to do with DRM.
You should try to deactivate some apps and systemapps.
so its okay to the battery out at this stage? its still at the point where i just flashed the rom, and it finished installing the system, data, and it set permissions and installed busybox, but its stuck at checking permission, i guess its around half of the overall process
did you remember to factory reset and wipe cache? as for pulling out the battery....if it doesnt continue, i guess you have no choice. i do not think it would result in a hard brick because you never messed with the bootloaders; but you never know what can happen.
forgot to do that, thanks for the reply, i got it going, mayb overeacted a lil, just never encountered anything like that and it just made me nervous
you should be able to reboot your phone and get back into cwm. if not, let me know and i will walk you through the process
i was able to flash the rom, its up and running, thanks
glad it is up and running. enjoy the phone!

I really effed up my phone

Tried to root my HTC Inspire, did pretty good at that part. Then I installed a theme I found here (that said it was for my phone) and now can't get past the boot screen. I've done factory reset, data reset, cache reset, davlik reset.. everything.
Is there anything I can do to fix it?
EDIT: and no i didnt have a backup
I had a similar problem after installing a theme. Different phone though. What worked for me: Removing battery for a few seconds, then go through the whole factory reset, cache partition, and Davlik cache wipe routine again.
Ok, I'll try that now. Thanks.
Still the same... I suppose I should just get a new phone
if you can still boot, there's still hope
do you have a custom recovery? if you do, you can transfer a custom rom to your phone and flash it
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App
No I don't
I guess it was my fault for trying to do something I wasn't ready for.. I was just so tired of looking at the same damn skins.
I guess the problem was I installed the Lucid theme without CM7 (stupid I know, I deserve this).
post your question here:

theres a whole community with the same phone as you and im sure someone there has an answer

[Q] Complete Factory Reset

I'm wondering if there's a good way to do a complete factory reset (sdcard wipe, radio reset, system reset). I'm running Android Revolution right now, I think I effed up when I was changing radios, the phone is really buggy right now. Is there a good process for this? I'm not super skilled, but if somebody could list some steps to take, that would be very helpful, thanks!
Nevermind. Shouldve looked at the hack kit more closely.

If a factory wipe in CWM + install custom rom doesn't work, then you've got bigger problems and a complete factory reset to stock isn't going to help.
People seem to have a gross misconception on just what "rooted" means. It's not like some super secret process running in some hidden location on the phone (like a rootkit in linux) but just a single bit flipped in the radio hardware. S-ON/S-OFF is just a switch. It's on or it's off and there's really nothing more to it than that; it's just that to actually get to that switch, you need to jump through a lot of hoops.

[Q] Factory reset? phone keeps rebooting.

So I have a Motorola Droid Ultra, rooted, running 4.4 Kit Kat, on Obake 12.5.3, with SafeStrap installed. I have recently started to get random UI reboots and I have no idea what could possibly be causing these random UI reboots. Can someone please tell me, if I want to factory reset, should I use SafeStrap recovery to factory reset? and would I lose root? Or do I have to reflash my phone? (I'd prefer an easy fix while, at the same time, not have to reflash). Can someone help me troubleshoot my issue here? It would be much appreciated
Edit: In addition to the reboots, I also have another problem that has never happened before, when I go to storage settings in the settings menu, everything is stuck on "calculating"...
Here's a screenshot:

This is often caused by the cache being broken. I don't know how to rebuild the cache if you're just rooted and not unlocked. If you can find a way to clear it, then try that.
Factory reset can do this, but you might lose root (not sure).
Okay, so I am about to perform a Factory Reset through SafeStrap right now. I will give an update post after I do the reset.
Problem solved!
I did the factory reset with SafeStrap, I am still rooted, and the problem is solved!
