[Q] Factory reset? phone keeps rebooting. - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a Motorola Droid Ultra, rooted, running 4.4 Kit Kat, on Obake 12.5.3, with SafeStrap installed. I have recently started to get random UI reboots and I have no idea what could possibly be causing these random UI reboots. Can someone please tell me, if I want to factory reset, should I use SafeStrap recovery to factory reset? and would I lose root? Or do I have to reflash my phone? (I'd prefer an easy fix while, at the same time, not have to reflash). Can someone help me troubleshoot my issue here? It would be much appreciated
Edit: In addition to the reboots, I also have another problem that has never happened before, when I go to storage settings in the settings menu, everything is stuck on "calculating"...

This is often caused by the cache being broken. I don't know how to rebuild the cache if you're just rooted and not unlocked. If you can find a way to clear it, then try that.
Factory reset can do this, but you might lose root (not sure).

Okay, so I am about to perform a Factory Reset through SafeStrap right now. I will give an update post after I do the reset.

Problem solved!
I did the factory reset with SafeStrap, I am still rooted, and the problem is solved!

[Q] ICS unlock problems

Posting on behalf of a friend.
We just did the official ICS OTA update and now whenever he unlocks the phone it always takes him to the security settings menu regardless of where he is at. I've power-cycled his phone and cleared dalvik cache.
Any ideas for resolving his problem outside of a factory reset?
Hmm. That's a strange problem. I guess a bug has crept in because of the way some app is working.
You could root, back-up everything with Titanium and do a factory reset. That way, you're not worse off for having done the factory reset. You could then restore the apps one by one, to isolate the cause.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, you could uninstall apps one by one with similar effect. But you'll loose the app data.

[Q] Factory reset?

So I'm S-off, Firewater, SuperSU, CWM, stock software, I have not loaded a ROM, fastboot flashed the nohbootimg firmware update, added the HTC browser, and flashed the OTA-killer.
Can I do a Factory reset without it messing something up? I'm having 3 issues that I want to see if a reset will fix, one is my alarm clock keeps turning itself off, another issue is that when I turn the phone on it seems to take a long time to "Prepare Sim card" , and the last issue is that I get a email "login failed" notice which is poping up before the phone starts seeing the data connection.
Thanks

If you are simply stock and rooted... you can factory reset using CWM without any issue.
Worst case scenario if you are backed up...

Since you have not installed a ROM I would think a factory reset would be a good first step. You will probably lose some if the customization you have done, but I wouldn't think you would lose root or anything like that. I believe a reset will just wipe the data partition ( maybe dakvik and cache as well).

Thanks! Just curious, I'm trying to learn as fast as I can , how does CWM reset differ from the the stock one?
And do you think that the CWM reset could help with the issues?

They both typically wipe the same partitions however the stock recover also resets some radio elements which is why you will always see me suggest to someone with radio issues to do a factory reset from stock recovery.

I used the reset in CWM and I'm going through the setup now, I guess we'll see if this helps. Thanks guys!!!
Well the alarm is staying on so far and I'm not getting the email login failure but I think I lost my CWM, guess I'd better reload it.
Interesting, I can't seem to get into my hboot mode? hmmmm
nevermind, I'm a dolt, forgot to turn off fast boot and I Still have CWM but when I select reboot I get a message "Root access possibly lost. Fix?" Anyone know what this could mean? Should I Pick "Yes - Fix Root" . I'd assume so, what the heck lets see what happens. lol

[Q] Factory resetting my rooted phone

I rooted my Xperia L 2-3 months back. Recently the phone has been getting stuck at screen off very often. I have a hunch that a factory reset will solve the problem (as it has happened once already).
However, I'm worried that since it is rooted, a factory reset might cause problems. Is it safe to do a factory reset? Has anyone tried this? I don't want to backup any apps or anything, I'm fine with losing app data. I just want a fully functional phone.
Also, I'm still using Android 4.1. Can I update to 4.2 on a rooted phone?

[q] stock unrooted bootloop??

i dont use this forum as i have a different phone and i dont particularly want to sift through every thread to find an answer so i thought id ask to find out for myself
my partner owns a stock unrooted totally unmolestered original moto g running android lollipop and earlier today it started to lag and flashed up with an error she didnt have time to read, not long after it completely froze so i tried to turn it off and on again. after trying to turn it on again it has gone in to a bootloop and will not start properly.
any help on a solution would be much appreciated if anyone can help me ASAP.
cheers
Boot to recovery and try wiping cache. If that doesn't work, you may have to do a full wipe which means losing all files on the phone.

Question on factory resetting rooted device

Hello,
I have a rooted N8010 that's running stock. I'd like to factory reset this tablet because it's acting buggy with some lag and intermittent random reboots. I've owned it about 4 years and have never reset it.
My question is, since it's rooted, do I have to do anything other than booting into recovery and resetting? I'm asking in case I'm supposed to unroot or flash factory or something, even though it's still running stock.
Thanks for some advice! :good:
Factory reset .
Then root again if you actually need root .
Easy enough, thank you!
