hey before anyone starts flaming me for no search i wanted to apologise beforehand. I did search, this is all foreign to me. I have an mda, interested in the windows mobile 6 platform but theres a few questions i had.
1 being is the processor fast enough to handle the os or is it gonna be even laggier than it is now?
and 2 is there any step by step how to guide from begining to end (with photos preferably), just taking your plain ole out of the box mda and putting windows mobile 6 on it. all this kitchen and cooking and frying, tornados and crossbow code talk doesnt make sense to me. thanks so much for reading, I dont mean to be a newbie about all this stuff, I just want someone who knows what theyre doing to tell me what its all about.
Welcome to the wonderful world of MDA flashing! Ok so you want to take your MDA and load WM6 on it. That is what we reffer to as "flashing, " so anytime you hear someone talk about flashing their device to "Core," "Pandora" or "Crossbow" they mean they are changing the operating system to that paticular "version" of WM6. They are all based off (more or less) the same WM6 ROM but just tweaked with some useful apps, and registry changes. Read about them in the XDA-Wiki page. As far as learning how to flash, there's a "sticky" (a post that remains on the first page) entitled "Howto flash a Wizard... a little tutorial!" Just follow that word for word and you should be fine. It's easy if you just follow the instructions and don't try to jump ahead. Good luck!
follow these directions.. and you should have no problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613. WM6 seems to be a big upgrade.. so i suggest it.. then take a look and see which new ROM you want.. there are many.. if you want just basics you want a Vanilla ROM, i reccomend ANTC's WM6 Professional 3.0.. or if you want fully loaded try Pandora (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310530) or Faria (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762). give it a whirl.. and if you need help, don't hesitate to IM or PM me.

awesome thanks so much for your help guys. I have a g4 mda, and from what I know i dont have to CID unlock it. im just trying to figure all this out. I dont think its as easy as downloading the rom utility update and downloading the rom... theres a million different tutorials and I dont know which one is the most current or the best. keep the replys coming though i appreciate it.

The group does a pretty good job of updating the info as new stuff gets released. Like I said earlier, most of your basic questions will be answered in the XDA-WIKI
see my signature, that's how it should work, no need for CID unlocking
the only "issue" with an G4 is that you only can flash the OS itself.

IRM
cooool, so i got it flashed after trying a million times, but i finally found a version that works, I keep getting errors here and there. last time i flashed it was giving me a checkautorun.exe error. I just flashed farias rom, and when I was doing it with shelltool my mda displayed a few errors which i just pushed ok. also after flashing, i get a dos app thats cmd.exe that i just close and right after i close that, shelltool says its done. it wont say its done UNLESS i close cmd.exe. also having big problems with the contacts. every time i push the contacts button, it never opens. any suggestions?
just got an error that said unexpected error occured in shell attempting to restart.
Are you unlocking your phone first? It might be easier for you to do if you find an unlocking utility for a g4.. or pay the 40 bucks to IMEI-check.com
nope no unlocking. no more silly errors, the only thing i cant do is open my contacts, (or sync them) it just says a device by that name already exists on this maching and i have to rename or be guest. im gonna reflash and see if it helps any. now does anyone know if when using shelltool i need to go back to the original tmo rom and do all that hooplah or can i just flash it like it is now?
I dont understand why you can't open your contacts... do this.. check 'settings' in start menu under 'system' and see if there is a application called 'softkeys' if there is then click on it and see if there is a \contacts.lnk path under the 'Contact'
i dont see contact.
nope, looked in windows folder where all the other .ink files are, and contacts.ink is not there.
it's actually not directly in the windows folder it's in 'windows\appbuttons'
Sorry, I was assuming you looked directly in the 'windows' folder..
ok found it. doing a soft reset now to see if it works...
keep me posted.
well its still doing the same thing... i push the contacts, the start button displays contacts for a second, theres an x in the corner then it just goes back to the normal screen.
hmn.. thats weird.. what happens when you go to 'contacts' from your start menu?
same. well see. I really like the wm6 os. Ive never flashed anything or messed with any phone, so this is all very new to me. I wish there was someone else that flashed a g4 without unlocking it first... grrr. heres something funny, sometimes when I restart it shows the GSM version other times its blank... I dont really care if I brick this phone, last week it was acting up and tmo is sending me a replacement. this was back before i was starting to mess with it, so i got a replacement on the way. lets hope its a g3
Mine does the same thing, sometimes it shows GSM sometimes it doesnt.. Thats pretty common. Yeah I paid to unlock mine, so I have no idea when it comes to a locked device.,
Hi people,
Weird stuff... After installing TomTom sometimes (that's the weird part) TomTom boots after a soft reset. Seeing this isn't constant, i'm posting it here. Maybe i'm not the only one.
My tomt tom with my UK ram is working fine with no problems. However my tom tom home in my laptop does not work properly when first turn on the laptop, the program just get stuck
Sorry if this does'nt help you. I have no idea your solution

Search "TomTom starts after soft reset ". Lots of threads about this.

had the same problem. Look for the folder 2577. In this folder you will see an autorun.exe file. Delete it. worked for me. But as homanm has suggested u might also look in other threads

Jackster,
That's what I was alluding to. I tried the "Give the man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish, he eats for a lifetime." approach.
Thanks alot guys. I know, i should've used the search function. Will do from now on.
true !!!
ok, I've had my fuze since the day it came out and didn't do a thing right, I didn't even install a .cab until about a week ago because I didn't know how. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to this type of stuff, so I'm here now asking for help. I just did a hard reset so I was back to factory settings, logged into here and starting posting this, I came here because you all seem really kind and genuinely willing to help morons like me. So I'm here asking: what should I do? Would someone be willing to write a list of all the things I should install (preferable in order) and even give a link to the thread where it was made (so we can read about it and properly thank the creators) because no joke, I messed something up and I would get a message popping up every minute or so, I couldn't download anything or do much, so I figured I'd restart the thing have have some people who actually know what they're doing help me out and give me a list of things to do, I'm sure I'm not the only one this would help
special thanks to those that've helped:
none yet, be the first =]
honestly all i can say is, read this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410159
follow those links, which will help u out tremendously..and u should be good to go.
if theres anything else u cant seem to find in those links..use the search funtion it HELPS SO MUCH!
Late,
Jstar
thanks, also, I remember hearing that advanced configuration tool 3.3 is a great thing to download, however when I tried to find it I came up short, is this something I have to download via comp, then transfer? Or can I download it straight to the phone? because I'm on a road trip right now just sitting here trying to get my phone awesome
Advanced Config Link
I searched on "Advanced Config" and this link was the first hit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
You should be able to download the cab to your phone (or storage card) and just execute it.
Another good link for really getting your phone "right" is this one (which also has many of the CAB's you'll want/need): http://fuze.cassiebaby.com/
I'll note again, however, that you really need to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the search functions...most of the questions you'll have are answered (and you'll not draw ire of folks). And, per above post, spend some time reading the wiki's...
hi everyone, sorry about this question if it has been answered. i did search since yesterday with variations in search words and nothing. ive always searched and have been able to find my answers before... i think this is even my first post lol
how do i remove a factory installed application if it does not appear on the remove programs list??? please im ready to throw it out the window! the app doesnt work... reinstalling didnt help, now i have two of the same program one with a (1) extension. and now they both cant be removed! and i have two of these phones too. want to remove it from both. especially from one, because its for my son.
i cant ignore it... its like ocd or something.
your help is greatly appreciated. please.
If it is "cooked" into the rom and it does not appear in the "remove programs" then you cant.
really?? jeez dont tell me that... its gonna drive me nuts. how do uncook it? its actually that stupid OZ messenger program. grrrrrr! now i have two on my phone... =/
i had it on the previous touch before and was able to remove it completely. this sucks!

The term "cook" means the individual that customized the rom wanted that software installed. Once the OEM file is placed, there is no way for the average joe to remove that. However you might be able to use a file explorer program and remove the shortcut from the programs menu, it will not be "un-installed", just hidden.
grrrr! they really suck.
thanks.
No problem.
There are a few things you can do
Just delete the shortcuts in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs (not the best answer...)
Install a different ROM without the app (eg. ROMeOS by Monx is very vanilla)
Advance Users: Use a kitchen to rebuild the ROM
I've looked everywhere for the answer, but can't seem to find it.
I am having trouble copying text messages from my SIM-card to my phone memory.
Is there anyone who knows how to solve that issue? I am using an HTC Diamond with WM6.5.
Thanks a lot.
EC
Bump for visibility.
hahahahaha I had tried this for a very long time!
Seriously it too annoying!
In the end all I could do is :
put my sim in a nokia phone
transfer messages to the phone
sent them to diamond via bt!!
Sorry for the lame solution, but there is no other way!
Asus sim manager
Asus sim manager(any version) does it
Sorry dont have .exe n other related files.

Great, but I cannot find the sim manager files, only ROMs containing it (dumping them would take a lot of time). Is there any way you could send it to me?
Thanks.

allright, here's quickmade cab of asussimmgr.
idd, there's option to copy sim msgs into device(and from device to card) there, hmm nice.
i am not sure, if it will work for HTC devices(i've added policy to cab that should allow that), but i think it should.
Thanks
Thanks pupakota
hope it helps others

i'd be glad, if it works
Just downloaded and trying it out right now...
And YES, it works! I am very glad you guys helped me out!
Thanks a lot!
You can also use apps below to save the sms located on sim card & import to device.
Have done so on wm2003se wm5 wm6 wm6.1 & wm6.5 custom ROMs
i don't exactly know what you guys here are talking about...
but if its simply about copying a sms from the sim to the phone (as the title suggests) then i don't see how come no one's posted the most obvious solution i've used myself before...
just as background info to those who need to know- i'm running a com5 23569 self-cooked rom on my htc gene (p3400)
and i stumbled upon the solution to this problem you mentioned while going through one of the millions of flashes and restores we chefs go through...
all i did to copy the message onto the phone memory was open the msg to view it and then hit the left soft key to open the menu and the last option on the menu list simply reads 'copy to phone'...i tap on that and voila!! its done...
do let me know if it works coz i don't think it would be this simple and yet left untried by anyone else and requiring external apps to be installed for it to be done...

regardless of fact, if it is working, i wish luck to anybody with many messages..not especially automated process, if you ask me.
for cooks(that flash frequently) matter is entirely different, btw.
ppcpimbackup.

don't usually have to contend with too many messages myself...this only arises when i put my sim into a temp phone while the flashing process completes...and at worst i have 4-5 messages to contend with...
ppcpimbackup is my first pick too but i don't remember trying it out on sim messages...worth a shot though...
WOW plenty of options available! thank you guys.
