after playing aroung with my HTC touch for a while as a Musician I found it rather useful e.g. to tune, as metronome, while what I really like would be to use it as a simple MIDI sequencer being able to playback (and maybe record) from my keyboards.
Now after extensive research, I found that there was a solution years ago for the IPaq bus no discussion going on over the last four years.
But given that today there are dozens of MIDI to USB solutions available I was asking myself how difficult it would be to make such a cable which would really be a great deal for making this possible.
My results so far:
There was an adaptor Serial-MIDI for PPC (http://home.datacomm.ch/walter.schurter/Bilder/PocketPC_MIDI_Adapter.jpg)
The MPORT Solution for IPAQ seem to not exist anymore (http://www.han-d-solutions.com/mport.htm) (Description see here: http://www.worldofppc.com/HWTests/mporte.htm)
So maybe a new attempt might be feasible these days? Or anyone had some success looking for MIDI on a PDA?

Not for external MIDI, but the Griff sequencer is a portable virtual studio for Pocket Windows devices.
Has virtual instruments and effects, and got a good review in Sound on Sound some years back.

Yeah, that sounds nice indeed, even though not exactly what I want, It would really be convenient to just connect it to a midi keyboard and really have a on the go music making solution, but it seems too much to ask for!

I reckon your idea would require USB host functionality in your PPC, which it probably lacks.

No, it's not so much a slow, bloaty remote-desktop program like NetOp or VNC or similar. It's more like a remote-control (IR-type) keypad which can be programmed to send specific commands to your PC over Bluetooth.
Those remote-desktop programs are just too slow and unworkable on this tiny screen IMHO.
then i guess it comes down to what you want to control is it just audio or is it a spc audio program like winamp
i guess it's just a matter of a program on the pc which just speak with a com port it dont know that it's using bluetooth at all
and a program on the pocketpc which also speak with a com port and send stuff that the pc program interp and control what ever have to be controled
maybe there are programs like that al ready

Salling Clicker
My boss used a program to control his Apple computer, by using his palm-tungsten or his sony-ericsson t610.
That nifty piece of software is called Salling Clicker

Unfortunately, Jonas Salling is only into macOS and SymbianOS, and not into windowsXP and PocketPC :-(

I use Total Input Elite Edition to control my laptop - I use it as a bluetooth remote control to control WinDVD, WinAmp and WinTV. The downside is with the built-in bluetooth stack you have to activesync over bluetooth if you want to create a network connection with the laptop and Total Input is a bit slow loading themes (there's a limit of four).

I've been looking around thinking about ways of attaching hard-drives to my TyTn. I found that Seagate are about to launch (closely followed by others, I guess) a range of hard drives with this new interface. It's electrically compatible with the MMC interface but has addition commands for controlling ATA drives. I guess this means we will need a new SDIO stack to run these devices. Any developers out there that know more than me and wish to share?

The built-in Windows Media Player has always suffered from a major flaw: it didn’t support resuming the song from the last position after restarting the player. XDA-Devs forum member Wolfman-XP (the same guy that has also developed AVRCP support for GSPlayer) has fixed this: he has released a plug-in that remembers the last position where you press(ed) the Pause button. (Note that you MUST press Pause; as opposed to players natively supporting resume, this is a restriction – but not that a big one.)
Compatibility
I’ve tested it on the following devices:
- HTC Wizard with AMP’s WM6.1 ROM and custom WMP skin
- HTC Universal with WM6.1 Tomal’s ROM version 7.7
- HTC Vox / s710 MS Smartphone with the factory WM6.0 ROM (this January)
- HTC Oxygen / s310 MS Smartphone with the factory WM5 AKU3 ROM
- Dell Axim x51v standalone (no-phone) PDA with WM6.1
- HP iPAQ 210 standalone (no-phone) PDA with factory WM6.0
Of these devices, it was only on the HP iPAQ 210 that it didn’t work at all; all the others did, even the WM5-based models and the non-phone x51v.
Installing, using
Just download the hack HERE, in the first post, install it and off you go. Remember pressing Pause at the position you want it to remember.
After restarting WMP, it’ll take you to the Library (and not the Now playing) screen. To quickly return to the latter, on touchscreen-enabled PPC’s, click the Back arrow in the upper right corner; on MS Smartphones, just press the Back hardware button. (Alternatively, you can go to Now Playing / Play.)
Restrictions
In addition to not being compatible with the HP iPAQ 210 (and, possibly, some other devices), it isn’t able to correctly re-position in AAC files (I’ve tested both standard and HE-AACv2 files). WMA’s and MP3’s, on the other hand, work just great.

tcpmp (called the core player these days) really put the standards high (supported files and intelligent interface without too much crapping around)
pocketmusic is also great...but wmplayer seems to be out of date and overcame

With this hack, it became pretty much usable. Of course, it sitll has major problems.

yeah you are right and i really really appreciate people's work around here
but it's MS it can't be that good anyway,untill there are about10-15 hacks which our good people developed and not MS
so we have a WMplayer mutation...a player that evolved from wmp ...and in the end after many hacks it will be a whole new player on a totally different base and with different features
i can't be that reckless (because my programming level is average) and ask if it would be better to make a new one instead of developing wmp
but thanks guys people don't forget good stuff and good guys

It is worth fixing what already exists and supports video as well as audio. It may not be the most intuitive design (simplicity is better) but it is what comes with windows and works with most codecs. mainly important for familiarity, and audio video capabilities.
compatability with IPAQ 210 series
I just wanted to say that I have an IPAQ 214 and the resume plugin works OK.
It wasnt a surprise when I read it wouldnt work- loads of software seems to be unable to cope with HPs install of WM6 - but I am happy to say this isnt one of them (at least for me ;-) )
Does the plugin also work on a htc diamond??

While all the options work fine, I was curious to see if it worked with shuffle switched on. While you keep your playlist, you lose the last spot on launch and you get a re-shuffle. I can understand why. Any chances of getting an option to disable Shuffle on launch? When listening to a two hour long set losing my position can be a little annoying.
Despite this, very good plugin! I was looking for a way to get around the Camera closing Windows Media Player when it opened. While this doesn't fix that, it solves the missing playlists for when it does! Sweet work.
Was wondering if this will work with WMP 12, if so could someone please help this rookie as how to get this loaded into WMP. Thanks in advance....scotty

Damd good question.
At the risk of sounding like a wanna-be Borg, I'd like to use Myvu glasses with my new Fuze.
There's already a thread out there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417616 showing what the TV-out function can do, and the Myvu gogs will work fine with video and such.
But you have to run the TV out program, which only allows a limited set of programs to be used (Powerpoint, internet, photos and videos, and youtube).
I'd like to use Office programs on Myvu.
Using mobile Word or Excel with the glasses on would be like having a big computer screen.
Plus, no laptop to haul around (just a bunch of cables, adapters, and batteries - but you're already doing that, right?).
It'd be like a REDFLY application (http://www.celiocorp.com), but for video goggles, not as a laptop substitute.
You'd be totally VR then - if you had heading (compass) information you could do some really cool on-the-fly navigating too.
Does anyone know of a way (or if it's even possible) of porting ALL of the video output of a Fuze to TV-out?

Hey, I wanted to say that I am really loving x3maniacs build of Ubuntu for tf101, Tubuntu, it's revitalized a piece of hardware I didn't even know needed revitalizing.
I only had one or two questions involving audio. Is there any way to get Jack Audio working on an ARM processor, this one in particular? I've read enough to know that they don't play nice together, but I've read of some success getting it to work with the ARM based Pandaboard through an external audio interface compatible with Ubuntu/Linux. I'd much rather prefer the software way, but anything would be awesome.
And I guess that's part of my second question: Is there any way to get USB midi interfaces or Audio Interfaces recognized? Maybe recognized is the wrong word, because I scanned the ports with my Korg microkey plugged in, and it saw a device labeled KORG, but I think I need to be able to use a midi softsynth like timidity or fluidsynth to have it translate to an application.
I'm already really impressed with this build, and linux in general, I know it's very midi capable, it recognized my psx controllers hooked up with a super dual box pro, and as two seperate midi game controllers no less with fully working thumb axis controllers (which is more than I can say for android).
I should also mention that I'm really interested in this because LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio), Audacity, and the Hydrogen sampler all seem to be up and running really well on Tubuntu, I mean I'm more than happy with that. I can even use an adapter to split the microphone input and audio output in the headphone jack so I can plug my guitar, bass, and microphones in and record directly into Audacity. More than I ever could've imagined doing with this hardware.
And anyone who's into audio production or beat making, you should really check out LMMS on Tubuntu, full of instruments, plugin effects, and an Sf2 (soundfont) player, all with really manageble latency considering.
so even though I'm happy where it's at, I'm just wondering if that one small, yet crucial and difficult to work around, piece can be figured out. Jack would open the system up to programs like Ardour, Rosegarden, Musecore (which actually works but crashes when you try to go into preferences and can't play sound, think it's automatically configured to jack or alsa_seq), and Traverso, which all start up, but can't really be used without Jack; or the world of guitar amp modeling, as there's a way to get a guitar signal in.
Sorry for the long post, but I am really excited by the sheer number of things that are already working in this build (not even mentioning GIMP or Libreoffice).
Really, thanks to everyone for their hard work on this. Hope to hear from someone on the issue.
Oh, and I should warn anyone who might try, excessive installing and uninstalling of audio drivers/midi drivers seems to lead to instability in the system, I've reflashed and started from scratch many times in the last few days.
Also, also, I usually found my self in search of snd-seq modprobe file/directory, that seemed to be the thing that couldn't be found and connected to jack most often.
